This is a very interesting discussion. I wish it was a little easier to follow. Is there a guide in English that covers these in-depth scoring mechanics? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

It's basically just that you have that flame thrower power shot, and when you hit an enemy with it, it stays there and keeps doing damage for a little bit. You get a score multiplier for any enemies killed while that damage is happening, up to x16, depending on the amount of power shot you tagged an enemy with (it fires 15 shots).
So, you see him hit a large enemy with the full power shot (since small enemies will die before you can hit them with all of it), finish them off with the normal shot, then move to killing all the small enemies to keep the chain going. There's a timer on that score multiplier that you can keep resetting by killing enemies, so the chain lasts until you hit a gap in enemy waves.
They talk about a glitch that lets you freeze that timer if you play on the 2p side when you use the charge shield/bomb. The enemies drop power ups, and once you hit max power they start dropping boxes worth points. Once you collect 200 of those, they start dropping items that refill your shield/bomb ability meter. On the last stage there are tons of small enemies that you can use to continuously refill your shield/bomb that way, and keep a score chain going.
They also bring up that this period of refill drops is also on a timer, and once that's done the enemies will start dropping point boxes again. At that point you'll need to collect 300 point boxes to cause the enemies to start dropping shield/bomb refills again, then the next time around 400 boxes.

@@philmason9653 Man, thanks for the explanation, this makes a lot more sense now and is very helpful. I just got the game on Switch, enjoying it more than I thought I would and trying to learn mechanics, which is not that easy, seeing how it's in Japanese and all. It's a fantastic game and while I am sure the PS4 version has a frame less, it's a real pleasure to play this on a handheld. Somebody need to write a proper guide for this, I bet it would do well with the fans.

I know this game is technically not the best Cave Shmup in terms of mechanics, but its easily my favorite danmaku. I can understand why other games are more popular for scoring because of aforementioned mechanics. Yet the music and cyberpunk art design is without parallel. Not even Espgaluda comes close imho. Only Dai-ou-jou, Ketsui and Daifukkatsu rival it but even those are tertiary in my opinion.

I used to call it “esp ra de” too. 😛
It’s actually “esp raid”. The second guy knew.

Is "Esp Raid" the Anglo sized version or the actual Japanese pronunciation?

Vic707b I think so, sort of. The characters have E.S.P., but I have no idea what the Ra De stands for. Great game but hard to tell anyone about it!

@@williamvanhuss8452 Ra De stands for Raging Deicide (also the title of the boss theme).

It was the M2 port, you can see it in the hitbox dot on the character and in the vertical lines indicating the phases on the boss health bars. Both features are added in the M2 port
