I think that might have something to do with it. I was never homeschooled, but I know it can be difficult making friends and I imagine lonely at times. I myself have bad social anxiety (to the point where I ended up dropping out of high school) and have spent a lot of time over the past few years holed up in my room and being by myself because it's so draining trying to be "normal" and socialize like a regular person. I'm pretty introverted. Combine that with various mental health crap and my thought process and writing is pretty similar to Tyler's, which is why I connect to his lyrics so much. Those dark songs can only come from a person who's experienced depression and anxiety and loneliness. You spend enough time by yourself, you start to notice things nobody else does and get self-conscious about it. and i just wrote a fucking essay, jfc i'm sorry for rambling so much. tl;dr I agree with you.

Although I don't pretend to understand those depths of severe anxiety, I myself have pretty bad depression (and possible bipolar), as well. But I survive, I guess, because I'm at least half extroverted - so going to school helps somewhat. I'm really sorry that school was so tough for you; I hope you're in a situation now (or will be soon) that gives you peace. I, too, relate deeply to the lyrics (that's the main reason I'm a fan). I share a similar writing/thought process as Tyler (and now you), as well. It's both cathartic and worsens my depression, in a way. All I know is that TOP gets things that most people don't. A really wise person said something to me once that is similar to what you're saying: "you spend to much time in your head - you live a life that's so cerebral - life gets depressing." I was homeschooled up until 8th grade and have a lot of anxiety and have dealt with depression. On the flipside, i'm a very deep-thinker and am very uniquely creative. I never even thought about homeschooling being the cause of my anxiety and such...woah.

I can't believe he was homeschooled. I was homeschooled! I wonder if that - the endless hours and years spent in solitude - was what contributed to his depth of thought. Sometimes that heavy, cerebral pondering is negative, depressing, which I think manifests itself in his lyrics. I'm speculating from experience, here...
I think that might have something to do with it. I was never homeschooled, but I know it can be difficult making friends and I imagine lonely at times. I myself have bad social anxiety (to the point where I ended up dropping out of high school) and have spent a lot of time over the past few years holed up in my room and being by myself because it's so draining trying to be "normal" and socialize like a regular person. I'm pretty introverted. Combine that with various mental health crap and my thought process and writing is pretty similar to Tyler's, which is why I connect to his lyrics so much. Those dark songs can only come from a person who's experienced depression and anxiety and loneliness. You spend enough time by yourself, you start to notice things nobody else does and get self-conscious about it.

stolenbaby2008 Nah, don't apologize! I'm sorry that your anxiety/depression has hurt you so much. Although I don't pretend to understand those depths of severe anxiety, I myself have pretty bad depression (and possible bipolar), as well. But I survive, I guess, because I'm at least half extroverted - so going to school helps somewhat. I'm really sorry that school was so tough for you; I hope you're in a situation now (or will be soon) that gives you peace.
I, too, relate deeply to the lyrics (that's the main reason I'm a fan). I share a similar writing/thought process as Tyler (and now you), as well. It's both cathartic and worsens my depression, in a way. All I know is that TOP gets things that most people don't.
A really wise person said something to me once that is similar to what you're saying: "you spend to much time in your head - you live a life that's so cerebral - life gets depressing." I think that's true. But, ya know, that's not always a bad thing. Sometimes I think that my constant over-thinking and crippling depression - as horrible and exhausting as it is - allows me to truly empathize with the world in ways I wouldn't be able to otherwise.
...aaaaand now look who's wrote a fucking essay, lol! Don't worry, kid! We're broken people, but we know that life has a hopeful undertone :)
I was homeschooled up until 8th grade and have a lot of anxiety and have dealt with depression. On the flipside, i'm a very deep-thinker and am very uniquely creative. I never even thought about homeschooling being the cause of my anxiety and such...woah.
stolenbaby2008 What you're saying isn't true. I've been homeschooled my entire life and have many MANY friends, probably more than a lot of public school kids. Being homeschooled doesn't mean you have to sit inside all day.
To the OP. if you're forced to spend "endless hours and years spent in solitude" then you have messed up parents. Again, I've been homeschooled my entire life, and have a ton of friends, and go out a lot. And all of my homeschool friends also go out a lot, and don't sit inside all day.
