I can't even handle this performance. I don't know how many times I've listened to it, but it's a lot. This is a textbook example of vocal technique and phrasing. Perfection. And for a kid, he has a solid handle on dynamics and when/how to back off and when to just let it loose. Flawlessness. Every once in awhile, it'll just start playing in my head, and I'll have to go find the video and play it a bunch of times.

Billy knocked this out of the park-that belting at 1:27-probably the best thing in this show. Great enough that I never forgot his name-rooting for him on the Voice now.
What a great singer he was at only 12 years old. I was so excited when I recognized him on The Voice. I'm glad he's able to share his music with a new audience. For me, the competition is over. Billy Gilman is The Voice 2016.

This performance was the first one I saw of him, it blew my mind how perfect and similar to Michale's his voice was. Then I bought all his then existing music, I've followed him and kept all his music in my ipod ever since and though he wasn't completely vanished (he kept releasing independent singles and uploading gig videos in his youtube channel) I had no idea he was auditioning for the voice (big fan of the show as well) it was a total surprise when I saw him there and while listening to him I couldn't help but cry, I got super emotional to see him perform live for such a big audience again with the humbleness, emotion and will to begin climbing from scratch right to the top once again. Incredible how easy a lot of people forgot about him but so happy to see so many people are discovering his great talent thanks to his appearance on the show, he's building a whole new fan base and making us, all time fans, super proud and happy.

I've always been a HUGE MJ fan and I am so impressed with the way Billy Gilman performed "Ben!" Billy sang this song with such beautiful emotion and expression! And Billy's vocal tone is stellar and angelic! He has such control of his voice and yet it sounds so free. Especially 1:19 where he sings "Listen" and then really goes for it with such power and passion! Wow! He is amazing! I love how we can see how much MJ and Elizabeth Taylor and the audience appreciated and applauded Billy's performance! I have this as track #1 on a compilation CD with Michael's version as track #2 and I love them both! :-)

so I was watching the voice on UA-cam and stumbled onto Billy Gillman and thought oh no there is already a singer with this name and had no clue it was him. I remember him from years ago and great to see him reemerge as others have said. Amazing Voice I hope he wins.
I remember this performance like it was yesterday! On The Voice, they kept calling him a former child star and I could not BELIEVE that grown man is this same little boy! He's the only performer of this song whose talent and emotion matches the young Michael. Great job!

so I was watching the voice on UA-cam and stumbled onto Billy Gillman and thought oh no there is already a singer with this name and had no clue it was him. I remember him from years ago and great to see him reemerge as others have said. Amazing Voice I hope he wins.
I remember this performance like it was yesterday! On The Voice, they kept calling him a former child star and I could not BELIEVE that grown man is this same little boy! He's the only performer of this song whose talent and emotion matches the young Michael. Great job!
Pretty close, more than most. That said, NOBODY can touch the studio recording MJ did on Ben; it is perfect, without flaw (my fav vocal performance of all time, the loneliness came out in his voice, like my eyes get all hot n damp)
