@@davidjacobs6244 It doesn't have to be a Pro device to get a decent upgrade. Just going to 120 Hz screen would have meant a lot. OLED would be great but then it would cost $200 - $300 more I guess.
@@PatrickRambleshi Patrick I’m looking to upgrade my iPad Air 2 and I mostly use my iPad for casual use so a bit of everything. I’m stuck between this iPad mini the iPad Air 6 and the iPad 10. Which do you think would be best for me?
@@messaroundhandleit I think that’s an extreme opinion that you’re for sure entitled to. I love Apple products but don’t feel it’s necessary to upgrade every time they drop a new product
For people who have a Mini 5 or earlier it is worth upgrading . But for me, I have the 256 gig Mini 6 there is not enough of a upgrade to pay $600 and then shell out $130 for the Pro Pen.. I think it’s tacky that the new Mini 7 is not compatible with the previous pen. For such minimal upgrades we should have had the option to use our Apple pencil 2.
Are you sure it’s not compatible with the other one? I was speccing out the new iPad mini to purchase earlier this week, and while I didn’t end up pulling the trigger, I did notice an option to purchase either the Pencil Pro or the “standard“ Pencil. Wouldn’t that make it compatible with yours?
@@abubakrakram6208 “The Standard” Pencil is USB- C charged and that cost $ 79. Which is different from the 2nd edition Apple Pencil. Apple in the promotion announcement said that the new Mini 7 is not compatible with the 2nd edition Apple Pencil. My point is I should not have to by a new pencil for a new tablet with minimal upgrades.
I am still using my mini five 256 gig you can’t tell me that 8.3 is that much bigger than 7.9 as far as the screen goes and as far as performance, apps don’t stutter. I paid 215 for this preowned. It rocks
Do you really need that on a Mini? Seriously, what if it DID have 120Hz refresh rate? Does that mean you'll buy it? People just seem to lose their shit when something doesn't have that rate. It's like everyone thinks 60Hz makes these devices unusable and unworthy. No one is really THINKING about the use base for this device and the actual audience this is intended for. Seriously, Apple can put an M4 chip in it, start the storage at 1TB, make the battery last for 48 hours, and give it a price of $150 and you would still freak out about the lack of a higher refresh rate. Geesh! And besides, you wouldn't buy the Mini if it DID have 120Hz rate so what the heck are you complaining about? Most people can see the use of this for its intended purpose and not fuss about refresh rate so stop pretending like you care about that. So many refresh rate snowflakes out there!
@@PatrickRambles i think most people who have iPad mini also have iPad Pro Plus I don’t plan updating my iPad Pro m4 but it would be nice to have smaller iPad just because mini is portable plus it doesn’t look that big it uses A17 Pro chip the same chip in iPhone 15 Pro model
@@BooBooDaFoo330 Exactly, just go 90hz you could do that with the phones as well. I got sick of waiting for this damn mini 7 I have changed to a Z fold 6, and it does just what I needed a big screen when I want it.
As a pilot, I’ve been waiting for this update and it’s an absolute joke. I was really hoping to see a brighter display and 120hz screen to allow for better performance in the cockpit. The chip upgrade is meh and will only load maps slightly faster. Really wanted at least A18 Pro or M1 chip to get really snappy map movement. Now I have a conundrum as to whether I should just buy the 6 for cheaper or just accept the incremental upgrade and get the 7.
@JustDoinFlorida - If you don't have the 6, you should get the 7. If you want it with celular, be aware that now is only eSim, no more tray for nano Sim card.
I just got the 11 inch iPad Pro M4 instead for ForeFlight. Yes is more expensive, but knowing Apple, I knew it wasn't going to be anything impressive. Just look at the iPhone 16 launch. It has been rumored and leaked that eventually all iPads will have an oled display. However that won't happen until 2026 or 2027, I think. And even then, who knows if it will be 120Hz for the non pro models.
I bought the blue one, to take a little bit of the load off of my M2. But I was really hoping for the 18. But, it’s Apple, you can’t really be surprised.
It was an expected type of upgrade so no complaints for me. The A17 Pro and 8GB of RAM will be solid performance bump for gaming. Planning to trade in my 5G 256GB 6th Gen to this with the same specs. It’ll be great companion to my 13inch M4 iPad Pro
Android user here, nice to see a major manufacturer still supporting the best size of tablet out there. Every other manufacturer views this size as a budget tablet, so having a premium tablet at this size is important. Disappointing that they aren't going with a premium screen for it, but still, I may have to get the 7, or maybe one of the many used/refurbished 6's that'll be filling the market soon. Really hoping Apple sees major success here so this form factor can see a resurgence, but I'm not holding my breath.
You won't regret getting either the 6 or 7. After using Android tablets since their inception, the iPad mini was a game changer for me. There's no comparison to the smoothness and performance you get out of these on the Android side.
It's sort of a lackluster update, but it will likely sell well enough for Apple to justify it. It would have been nice to see A18, wireless charging, and a 120Hz display.
@@PatrickRambles I've been holding off on upgrading for years. I've considered the new M2 Air for performance, but along with the size and performance comes the exponentially greater possibility for distraction. In real world use, the new iPad mini has plenty of power (so does the 6) and is still the only iPad in the line that knows what it wants to be. The iPad was NEVER supposed to be a touchscreen Mac - not from Steve's perspective anyway.
Ordered it immediately! Do I wish it had a faster refresh screen? Sure! Who wouldn't, but I've also been waiting for apple to release a new chipset for this form-factor so I could pick up something that would last a few years and this seems like it! Can't wait to finally pickup a Mini!
This will draw laughter, but I watched this on my 2019-era iPad Mini 5 which is still my daily driver for true tablet tasks. 60 hz display has never bothered me. I struggle to see the difference in smoothness compared to 120 hz. I agree that 256 GB is the sweet spot, which is what I have. Would I love to have the latest Mini? Sure, but I just haven’t been able to justify replacing this solid workhorse yet.
@@braixeninfection6312 my current iPad is the Pro 9.7 inch from 2016. Works fine with iPadOS 17. My Kindle Paperwhite is getting long in the legs so I will buy the Mini 7 rather than a new Kindle. Every use case is individual. Love my 2024 Macbook Air 15" M3. I live and work in the Netherlands, so who knows (if ever) if we'll get to use Apple Intelligence.
its an "okay" update. It's more for future-proofing the iPad mini really. One of the main reasons why I think Apple is not in a rush to make big updates on the mini is because there isn't a big market for small tablets. I mean you barely see any similar-sized tablets giving the iPad mini are run for its money. In fact, I barely see other similar offerings from other manufacturers. Im a big fan of the mini and I think it's the perfect iPad when we talk about the best tablet for mobility and practical usage. I'm still hoping Apple will surprise us with a big update.
I think many people are viewing this upgrade the wrong way. It's a stellar choice for anyone with an older iPad, like the iPad 6, 7, or iPad mini 3 or 4, who’s ready to upgrade. Personally, I’m still using an iPad Mini 5, so this upgrade wouldn’t be worth it for me. Those who upgrade annually or even every two years are missing the point-Apple products are built for longevity. You really don't need to upgrade your Apple products until it stops receiving OS version updates.
Yes, I understand the reasoning behind the 2nd gen Apple Pencil not being supported, but good grief, they should consider how many people actually own the gen 2 pencil and if they upgrade to the 7, well…it’s not going to be compatible and you will be forced to upgrade to a gen 3 pencil.
@swancakes that's the one thing I actually don't want. I think the mini is most used in portrait mode for calls so it makes sense to keep the camera there imo.
I've had two variants of the iPad Pro and only realised that I didn't need the size or the expense when all I was using it for was reading, casual surfing and casual creative stuff (I'm a content manager). So sold those and waited for this variant only because I knew it was coming- didn't want to get stuck with the 'old' 6 even if admittedly, the upgrades have not been significant. It's all about choices and I chose to get this.
I just bought the IPad Mini 6. Love it more then imagined. If there would be a nanoscreen, that would be a reason for me to upgrade. Now I can do everything I want.
Thanks for the preview Patrick. I won't be upgrading from my base Mini 6, it's still meeting all of my needs in a small tablet (and I use it daily). Naturally I would like to have all of the new features, but my plan is to wait until the battery won't hold a charge anymore.
Apple is smart if you open your mind. iPad Mini owners can get a trade in credit and basically pay half price to upgrade. They will have a tablet that has Apple Intelligence, it can run GamePass and stream Xbox games, it can do light video editing, and it can be used by businesses. The people who want a 120Hz display have other options. This tablet is faster than any Android tablet and actually runs apps and games made for a tablet. Android tablets and foldables are still running blown up smart phone apps that aren't formatted for either. Nobody wants to mention that
I am not upgrading to the ipad mini 7. My 256gb mini 6 cellular version is quite sufficient, given the lack of upgrades being offered. I don’t experience the “jelly rolling” but I also don’t scroll super fast either when using my mini for content consumption.
The ONLY reason I'd update is that the battery in my mini 5 is failing. Not worth the money to replace it because it won't qualify for next year's iPad OS update. I'm disappointed.😢
Hi, great vid. I’m just wondering, right now I’m looking to buy an iPad for entertainment, work, scrolling etc. but lots of others say that this isn’t a worthy upgrade from the mini 6. I was just asking if this is a pickup, or should I wait for new releases??
Underwhelmed by the upgrade. Looks like I'll be saving some money and keeping my iPad Mini 6 a while longer. Heck it's still running strong and I have yet to ever experience the "jelly scroll" issue so I love it.
Definitely feels like an iPad mini 6s update, but coming from a 64gb iPad mini 6 WiFi to a 512gb iPad mini 7 Wifi+Cellular, I'm stoked for my daily driver. Oddball out here!
I think this upgrade is similar from going from the iPhone 15 to the iPhone 16 I jump up in RAM really does speed it up and it will seem snappier. I am not disappointed at all as I see this refinement in the perfect tablet.
It's a good spec bump! 2x storage, 2x ram!!, way more powerful chip, upgraded wifi, upgraded bluetooth, 2x transfer speed usbc, probably longer battery and battery life. For the same price... actually $50 cheaper for the 256gb model...
I love my iPad mini 6 and I pulled the trigger on the 7 right away. Yes, it is mostly a spec bump but there are some Features that Are making an Upgrade worthy for me. Pencil pro Support Faster usb The promise of future proof There are some rumors it could Support Final Cut Would I want it to be more pro? Yes, for sure! But I think there is only a Small market for a pro mini for more than 1000€/$
Thanks, Patrick, for your thoughts. Yes, I ordered it with the 256 and cellular since it is such a great travel iPad. I love the mini and the 11 inch as well so I will take what upgrades I can get. Just wish they would do them with less years in between if they are only doing minor upgrades.
I'm not a power user. But I did replace my 12.9" iPad Pro with the iPad Mini 6 because it just meets my needs better. Unless there's is a worthwhile Pro version update out there I'll stick with what I have. Great products, all.
I purchased it yesterday. I was initially upset but since I wanted a Cellular version and it did include an upgrade which will allow AI I went for it. I am like you and love my mini. It goes with me to the gym everyday:).
@@PatrickRambles Why do people get the cellular version? Is it mainly in the US? Or for those on the road all the time? I'm interested to know others thoughts about this?
The IPad Mini 6 was the first model of a new design with th e8.3 inch screen over the previous 7.9 screen. As such I wasn’t anticipating much in they way of changes, though I was assuming it would be Pencil Pro compatible, have the new IpadPro document scanning feature and up to date connectivity. I am disappointed that it isn’t mag safe charging compatible, (I use my ESR charging stand as a coffee table mount for my Mini6) and A18 base model for further battery life enhancement. Ordered though!!
This update was extremely disappointing. I waited for years and am now shopping for an alternative. No update to the battery, camera, bezel, display, etc. is unconscionable.
On one hand, I don’t need it since my mini 6 is perfect, but on the other hand (and I hate using this word), you’re future proofing yourself with the 7. I’m reserved only because my use case for the mini 6 is note taking and media consumption. I think I’d have to see it in person when apple intelligence comes out with it since I can’t justify it yet, but the most compelling thing for me is the 512GB storage. All my devices are 1TB as I like keeping photos from trips locally, so my current mini is the only device without my photos synced. Would be nice to have continuity on the mini but it’s not necessary. More of a want than need rn lol
I want a mini pro, I bought the mini 6 and could not get used to the poor screen/jelly scroll so I ended up giving it to my sister. I don’t even think I had it longer than a few weeks.
So does this mean the iPad mini also gets Final Cut Pro? What about the full external display support with no black bars. Truth be told, if the iPad mini even has a few of the pro features like that, That alone might make me consider it.
I don't think there is anything bad about it as a product but when I saw it using the same wallpaper as for the previous model, I just couldn't help myself thinking it's a corner-cutting and/or a Christmas sale tool. Lower price, it has to be.
I’ve been an iPad mini user since the very first model! I’ve owned the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th gen models and plan to upgrade to the 7th model, for me it’s that I’ll get double the storage, double the ram and a faster chip to handle games better… one thing has always been true for the iPad mini, It’s always been an underpowered device which lags behind apples flagship models, and usually has to be upgraded more often than my other Apple devices. But now my iPad mini can be as powerful as my iPhone 15 pro max
I’ve always felt that the iPad Mini was a lateral and smaller version of the Air. I would like to have the M1, M2 or M3 chip in the Mini 7. I went from the iPad Mini 1 to 6. Originally, I had switched from the iPad 2 to Mini 1. Which now it seems I will be keeping the Mini 6 probably just as long as I had the first gen Mini before upgrade.
Too little, too late. I was going to switch to the mini, but couldn't wait and will keep using the 10" form factor iPad and went to Android for the mini. 16Gb RAM is quite a revelation. I really like the mini form factor for writing and surfing and doing stuff. 10" is unmatched for video.
I have an iPad Pro 11inch really wanted a mini so I bought it and looking forward to picking it up on Wednesday . Really for the size and I don’t utilize the pro to its potential mainly for music watch youtube and scroll on socials
The 4GB ram in the mini 6 wasn't holding up well for me so I got rid of it. I like the 7 now has 8GB. I myself have been fine with 60Hz display. But the mini's aspect ratio is what I hoped Apple would change, to the same as those 11/13in iPads. Most apps are designed for the bigger iPads, some apps don't perfectly scale to the mini's aspect ratio, and it's a bit annoying to me.
I bought my mini 6 5G version last year and I’m not excited about upgrading to Mini 7. Maybe I’ll wait for the 8th for the 7 doesn’t represent a great jump
Lazy upgrade and it remains to be seen if they fix jelly scroll. I ordered it when it first came out and returned it due to jelly. I just ordered it again and will return it again if jelly scroll is not fixed. It’s really hard to like Apple sometimes.
I just upgraded to the 11” M4 Ipad Pro. I could not get used to it….so clumsy and big compared to the Mini. I returned it and kept my Mini. Not sure I’ll upgrade to the 7 tbh, but it rather depends how significant Apple Intelligence is to my work flow. Gonna wait, see and keep the cash.
“Correction of a mistake.” Very well said Patrick. Once again, excellent review of an item that even hasn’t come out yet, but the specs speak a lot about the intention of Apple.
I'm an iPad Ain M1 user and really want a smaller tablet for daily use (reading books, manga, editing some photos and UA-cam videos) BUT I'm not convinced for a chage yet. I love my M1 but my only issue is it's bigger than I needed and brightness. 500 nits is not enough. Also those bezzels on a small tablet is a big no. It could look comical between my Macbook Air and 16Pro.
Happy as a clam with the update, I wasn’t going to do it but I got a nice trade in price on my 6 & now I’ve got a faster tablet with Apple Pencil pro support and three more years of AppleCare. Might not be what I wanted in an update, but my wallet’s happy Apple didn’t go the pro route. Especially now that I’ve been using the mini 7 that came today, which made me wonder; Apple should make a mini pro. Keep this one for folks like me who don’t need oled or 120hz on a 2nd tablet but put one out with OLED, 120hz, maybe a down-clocked M4 and start that one at a higher price. I wonder what the real story is… Maybe they couldn’t get enough chips, enough OLED panels, couldn’t make enough money…
the lack of face id is a showstopper for me. my current Mini 6 is just fine with 256GB of storage, the rest would be invisible to the daily interaction I have with it.
Skipping the 7th gen iPad Mini. I use my 6th gen for reading, streaming and other content consumption. This update doesn't get me anything I wanted. I was hoping for a larger higher refresh rate screen, maybe curved edges to match the feel of my iPhone 16 Pro and possibly a little less weight. Didn't get any of that. Guess I'll wait another 3 years for the 8th gen.
I’m just glad the older mini will be cheaper now I just want one as a on the road tablet. I prefer physical SIM card as well so it just makes the older mini a better deal.
I’m upgrading from the mini 6 just for the CPU and RAM improvement, for the support of the Pencil Pro and of course because I love the iPad mini :) I love your videos and I’m expecting for your full review of the mini 7 ✌️
Currently using the 5th Gen (originally released in March 2019), so definitely upgrading to the 7th. The lack of Pro Motion means I can buy the regular iPhone 16 - or 17, if I decide to hold off upgrading my 13 Mini. I was originally looking at getting the 15 or 16 Pro, if the iPad Mini didn’t get a refresh this year. Thanks for the content.
I got the mini 6 earlier this year. Good deal 256/cellular for less than $800 CAD. Don’t think I’ll be upgrading to the mini 7. Would have considered it if it had Face ID.
Patrick…I am replacing my iPad Pro 2020 11 inch with the mini 7. 256gb memory will do be perfect and now I have an M2 11 inch pro as part of my job, this will be perfect for doing everything I need. 120hz would be great but no one uses more than that for videos anyway. So I won’t notice a massive change. Seems like a bang on choice for most. Internal ram increase will be a big boost even over the 6gb I have in my old Pro. I’m content, but happy? Not so sure.
I like using the mini a lot more than I thought I would, and I didn't get one with enough storage when I bought the mini 6. So, I used the opportunity to trade it in on a new one with more storage. Not sure I would have upgraded otherwise though, definitely not a huge change. I can see jelly scroll on my 6 but it doesn't bother me.
I have been wanting an iPad mini for the longest time. I have the iPad Pro 2018 which still works excellent albeit the battery last me around 30% percent less than when I first bought it (no complaints there). I'm thinking of giving this iPad Pro for 200 euro and buy the mini for 478euro. My use for an iPad has changed and now I only want to have a "notepad" for my courses, and something I can easily carry everywhere in my sling. I realised I could easily keep my old iPad which covers my needs, but I was thinking of doing this while the price for it is still significant. Anyways, I think I will make up my mind before November after watching reviews.
0:25 Had to buy a light. [Has bright cityscape backlighting him from behind.] Was the window light really that bad? Thanks for adding your views. As someone who was always eyeing the iPad Mini 6 I could never see the value of buying it with the old specs. This update makes it a bit better value.
I wanted to upgrade my iPad Mini 6 256gb cellular, but the trade-in value is only $230, which is the same as the 64gb non cellular iPad Mini 6. Apple charges $250 more for cellular capabilities and more memory, but the trade-in value does not reflect the difference.
I mean, what is special about mini for you guys? I don’t really understand. It’s just smaller. If you like it that way then ok, but are there any pros of having mini besides that?
I mean Patrick has made a ton of videos about this. And I agree with all of his. Here's a summary of my reasons: it really boils down to its size. the size of it is perfect for consumption. firstly, I can carry it everywhere in a small sling bag. The same sling bag that I use to carry my power bank for my phone, passport, etc. because of its size, I can pull it out of my sling bag anywhere. the other ipads are so large that they require much larger bags or backpacks. and if i try to use it while lying in bed, or on the couch, it's uncomfortable to hold and interact with one handed (because one arm is less mobile) The normal iPads are bigger, but their size makes them less ergonomical for someone that just wants to consume content. videos, books, games, etc. And because the normal and larger sized iPads require me to carry them around in a backpack, and are an inconvenience to take with me, remove from my bag, and use in some environments, it means that I usually end up reaching for my laptop instead. Anywhere that a normal sized iPad makes more sense, my laptop is also readily available, it's more powerful, and more capable. iPadOS just doesn't have enough going for it to justify carrying around a huge iPad when I can carry my laptop instead. the iPad Mini, on the other hand, is like having a very plus sized iphone when I want it. Because of this, it ends up replacing my MacBook for most of my consumption. all of the things I could do on my phone, but reach for my Mac because the screen is bigger, I do on my iPad Mini 6. I don't know. I just know that I've owned several iPads over the years and they usually collect dust. but the smaller size of the iPad Mini makes it just so much better at specific consumption use-cases that I actually use it. And I use it to an extent that my laptop starts to collect dust.
@@MehwhatevrThanks for the detailed summary. I couldn’t watch all of his videos about it, but I think it boils down to points he mentioned in his reply before you and you expanded on it greatly. I personally think it is too close to the phone itself, so I would just opt out the use my iPhone instead of looking for it most of the time unless I’m reading or taking notes. I certainly agree with the part it is the perfect size for reading though . Even in physical books (which I mostly prefer to read) I tend to like smaller sized ones. It must be a much comfortable experience to read on mini compared to bigger versions.
@@syts77 that’s fine. If you have the plus version iPhone, it might suffice for your needs. I don’t want a plus sized iPhone. So the iPad is like my plus sized iPhone plus. I think it’s a better size though for what it does than the iPhone. If you don’t mind carrying around a tablet, this size will give you a better experience than the iPhone plus without being too big. It’s just the right dimensions for reading a book or playing a game. Taking quick notes with the pencil, etc. I don’t know if I’m making any sense. Perhaps the iPad mini should just be the iPad. And every other iPads should be the iPad plus. 😂 and the iPhone plus or max could be the iPad mini. I think the plus sized iPhone are a bit unwieldy haha
I would say not worth the upgrade from 6 to 7, but if you were already planning to get an iPad mini, wait for the 7. For me the iPad mini is really useful for the hospital, reading things and taking notes instead of a MacBook, since it’s smaller. I was waiting for the upgrade, I’ll definitely get it
A few days ago, the Apple Store here in Seattle was selling the previous iPad mini (2021) 256gb WiFi only for $715 out the door. The new mini WiFi only (same storage) is $660 out the door.
The only complaint I have about the iPad mini 7 is IF I were to upgrade, I’d have to also upgrade my pencil, and knowing Apple, my folio case as well. I primarily use my mini 6 for note taking and media consumption. My 6 is still getting the things I need done just fine with the exception of ios18 completely murdering my battery.
As an iPad user myself all be it not a power user. I’ve had my iPad since 2014 (iPad air2) and I’m thinking about the new iPad 7 mini, as after 10 years this is defo an upgrade for me, realistically I could actually still wait longer as this still holds an amazing charge but fancy a newer 1 now. What I’m trying to ask here, am I alone or does the average person upgrade every 1-2 years? If not, this would be the reason for the not so much innovation between an iPad of 2021-2024 as maybe the average market for an iPad is longer than the 3 year?
Some very good changes; ram, storage and processor, but is it too much to suggest that for most users, even those of us who love the mini, an m-series chip would have made the device more desirable and dare i say it more future proof?
2:20 a relatively slow chip - in what standard a15 is a slow chip? the ipad mini 7 can't do stage manager, don't have "proper" external monitor support and the screen isn't 120hz, it can use a15 instead of a17pro and most people won't realize
I think its perfect meow as I was waiting to see if the storage got bumped. As a minimal device for travel its now about perfect. Just pack the Viture AR glasses and a PS5 remote for all the gaming and media consumption you'd likely ever need. I just keep the locally stored movies and TV shows on the phone and move games and manga to the iPad.
Lazy upgrade but I grabbed one so it’d get Apple Intelligence when it finally lands. Honestly my main gripe is forward facing camera still not on the landscape side. Makes it tough to use on a zoom meeting. But I LOVE the mini. Never owned a full size iPad. Hoping that they eventually bring the other features to the mini but Apple Intelligence is what made me pull the trigger.
I am going to upgrade from my iPad Mini 6 256GB+Cellular. The 8GB of memory and A17Pro and the ability to run Apple Intelligence are what made the decision for me. I am thinking maybe I will go with the 512GB version. The new mini is a cheaper entry into AI than say purchase of an M4 iPad Pro. The additional memory will help with Apple Intelligence and the A17Pro will also help on device processing and hopefully battery life. What I was hoping for was the ability to extend the display vs just Mirroring. All in all I think the iPad Mini (A17Pro) is a good buy.
This is a Tick update, not a Tock. That being said, mine will be here in 2 days to replace my Mini 6. I expect a decent battery life improvement and will certainly enjoy the extra storage space. For me, the Mini is the perfect tablet. My wife has an M1 AIr. It's fine, but I don't need a huge slab, I want a tablet. Since the Mini updates so infrequently, I find it worthwhile to keep up to date with it. That's just me though. Best of luck with whatever you decide for yourself!
Not excited about the update, BUT I really hope this means I can snag a Mini 6 for around $250.00 somewhere sometime soon. I have the 2021 10 inch iPad Pro and that still feels too big to drag around for most things.
I have the 2020 ipad pro, the big one, I'm not thinking of ''upgrading'' but hauling with me a huge tablet is just a pain if I want to just draw on the go. I want a small device I can chuck in my back pocket in case I need to sketch, so this will be my sidegrade to acompany my big boy ipad which will be a home device and this will be an everywhere device. But that 60hz display hurt for sure, especially for the money which is still not a small amount.
Just wish apple would put 120hz across the board bar the standard iPad, 120hz isn't a Pro feature anymore, cheap android phones have it, technology has moved on - it puts me off buying it because I have all 120hz devices now and whenever I use my old 12 Pro Max as my work phone I notice 60hz BIG TIME and looks choppy and takes away from the experience. Apple need to realise for some things they may call Pro may no longer be Pro anymore. Luckily a lot of the 2020,2021 iPad Pro 11' are about £500 anyway so I'm gonna pick one of those up even though a Mini would be a better size for me.
I think it's a fairly lazy upgrade. I really hope whoever replaces cook is a product person and makes really cool stuff again.
The iPad mini was never meant to be a Pro device.
@@davidjacobs6244 that’s true but 120hz shouldn’t be pro anymore. 240 should be pro these days and 120 base.

There’s not enough to justify the jump from the mini 6 to 7 for me. I would’ve done it for 120hz but alas, Apple caught slacking again.

Is there a device out there that is compatible with multiple generations of apple pencil?
Enjoy your tablet as there is literally no difference in term of usage
I am still using my mini five 256 gig you can’t tell me that 8.3 is that much bigger than 7.9 as far as the screen goes and as far as performance, apps don’t stutter. I paid 215 for this preowned. It rocks
IPad pro 2018 support 120hz ✔
And ipad mini 7 after 6 years 2 months left until the new year 2025 and still no support 120 hz ...... mind blowing !!!
Still have that 2018 11“ pro, it’s a great device. iPad mini 7, 60 hz and those thick bezels? No way!
The thick bezels are actually functional because it's supposed to be a handheld device, but the screen is ridiculous.

I feel your frustration. We needed a bit more than this.

Yeah the display is my biggest gripe. It's a decent spec bump otherwise.
@@PatrickRambles I've been holding off on upgrading for years. I've considered the new M2 Air for performance, but along with the size and performance comes the exponentially greater possibility for distraction. The iPad was NEVER supposed to be a touchscreen Mac - not from Steve's perspective anyway.
I currently have an iPad mini4 so for me I guess it will a good change.

People really whine over 120hz so much it just gets old. I use a 120hz phone but it’s less important on a tablet. Apples 60hz is fine for my eyes.
its an "okay" update.
EXACTLY.
This mini series is 3 years update , its a jokee !
I'm still using an iPad mini from 2013 and it's actually working smoothly. Would love to upgrade to this newer version 🤩

If I didn’t have to upgrade my pencil, I’d consider upgrading my mini 6
same here, if I didn’t already have invested $100+ on the apple pencil 2 I would probably have upgraded
Yes, that is the biggest reason not to see much advantage in this upgrade. In short replace pencil vs Apple Intelligence and the pencil I have wins!
i mean, c’mon , at least put the selfie camera in landscape orientation if you’re updating the pencil anyway…
It is ideal for travelling & they are handy for reading books, etc
I just bought the IPad Mini 6. Love it more then imagined. If there would be a nanoscreen, that would be a reason for me to upgrade. Now I can do everything I want.
Thanks for the preview Patrick. I won't be upgrading from my base Mini 6, it's still meeting all of my needs in a small tablet (and I use it daily). Naturally I would like to have all of the new features, but my plan is to wait until the battery won't hold a charge anymore.
You're absolutely right.
Nobody wants to mention that
My thoughts exactly. With trade in value, this upgrade is a no brainer for me
Check out red magic Nova for same price but it beats even the latest iPad pro in performance. It's comes with 144hz

This update was extremely disappointing. I waited for years and am now shopping for an alternative. No update to the battery, camera, bezel, display, etc. is unconscionable.
I’m sticking with my mini 6. She had a place in my heart and I need something way more significant to do a costly upgrade.
The mini is basically the red headed stepchild that never gets anything new and only gets hand me downs.
What do you have against redheads, sir 😂
You’re my go to guy for ipad mini so I had to see your video on it.
I appreciate that!
I'm thinking that promsing apple intelligence will yield features like final cut
I have a 256GB Mini 6 and I’m waiting for a Mini w/Face ID. I’ll upgrade my 6 then. Hope it happens w/the next one.
How did you get that color on the iPad? Vinyl wrap?
I bought my mini 6 5G version last year and I’m not excited about upgrading to Mini 7. Maybe I’ll wait for the 8th for the 7 doesn’t represent a great jump
Lazy upgrade and it remains to be seen if they fix jelly scroll. I ordered it when it first came out and returned it due to jelly. I just ordered it again and will return it again if jelly scroll is not fixed. It’s really hard to like Apple sometimes.
do you think this one will support external display and stage manager?
I just upgraded to the 11” M4 Ipad Pro. I could not get used to it….so clumsy and big compared to the Mini. I returned it and kept my Mini. Not sure I’ll upgrade to the 7 tbh, but it rather depends how significant Apple Intelligence is to my work flow. Gonna wait, see and keep the cash.
“Correction of a mistake.” Very well said Patrick. Once again, excellent review of an item that even hasn’t come out yet, but the specs speak a lot about the intention of Apple.
Thanks!
This is not an upgrade. They just released the same tablet with a relatively new processor. There won't be any differences in daliy use between them.
Thanks!
Still looking forward to getting mine and using the Pencil Pro with it. Maybe one day the Mini will turn into the folding iPhone Pro Max Fold.
Is the iPad 11th gen likely to be released and waiting for
I have an iPad Mini 6 LTE and won't be upgrading. If the screen was better quality, more like the air/pro then I would have paid to upgrade
That makes sense.
Why couldnt they put an M chip, will the a17 pro be able to use with external screen with stage manager?

The window light is fine. The view of the hotel bathroom not so much.
@@PatrickRambles Well that's a whole different issue. Good choice.
Easy to handle, light, ideal for reading etc.
I mean Patrick has made a ton of videos about this. And I agree with all of his. Here's a summary of my reasons:
it really boils down to its size. the size of it is perfect for consumption.
firstly, I can carry it everywhere in a small sling bag. The same sling bag that I use to carry my power bank for my phone, passport, etc.
because of its size, I can pull it out of my sling bag anywhere. the other ipads are so large that they require much larger bags or backpacks. and if i try to use it while lying in bed, or on the couch, it's uncomfortable to hold and interact with one handed (because one arm is less mobile)
The normal iPads are bigger, but their size makes them less ergonomical for someone that just wants to consume content. videos, books, games, etc.
@@Mehwhatevr I have 14 pro and I don’t like plus sized ones either lol.
I preordered it this is my favourite tablet.
I want a 5G version for the car. Google maps splitscreen with Spotify. Usb DAC for superior sound quality feeding a brace of amps.
Wait can you use the iPad as a stream deck?
Sure can.
I would say not worth the upgrade from 6 to 7, but if you were already planning to get an iPad mini, wait for the 7.
For me the iPad mini is really useful for the hospital, reading things and taking notes instead of a MacBook, since it’s smaller. I was waiting for the upgrade, I’ll definitely get it
I had to come back...
Great Content as always on this channel...
🤓😎
I appreciate it! 👊
MAYBE if it have the same specs as the 10th gen and made it cheaper i think it would be the best choice as a starter ipad for new users and kids
Not enough changes to get me to upgrade. I use my ipad for reading so the 7th gen ipad mini is not worth it for me.
I would pass but my mini 6 battery is slowly dying. I’ve had the mini 6 since its debut 3 years ago. So a mini 7 will be in my future.
