      Totally agree…one of the worst screens ever…since this is a new release, why not use the same display style etc that are in the 900 and 1200, etc….also looks massively cheap and not Triumph like.

      How would the bike be at all better with a TFT display? The entire bike world has been brainwashed into thinking that a smartphone screen is somehow better than anything else. Fuck it, tell me when someone sells a bike with a beautiful analog tachometer styled after a mid 2000's Aston Martin. That would be some good shit, not a goddamn $50 display.

      It took them 4 years to progress from the 660 so I won't hold my breath. They could adapt the old 1050 or reconfigure the 1200 so there are options but I imagine they'd want to maximise sales of this version before they consider something bigger.
      In the meantime, for £1k extra one could opt for the popular, new ninja 1100 for fast two up touring. 🤔

      I asked - they said there's no way the 1200 lump will fit in this frame. But never say never, I reckon. If Yamaha can pull their finger out and make an MT-10 powered Tracer 10, we could have a cracking selection of touring bikes…

    I gave up my Tiger 800, seduced by a Scrambler XC, but regretted it ever since. This 800 is very tempting and I have requested a test ride as soon as they become available. The engine sound did come across on the video and sounds fantastic, not like one of those T-plane abominations. The throttle response (and your response) in Sports mode made me giggle. A common complaint about the TS 660 (mine included) is the QS occasionally failing to work 2->3, especially when accelerating hard. Perfectly fine in all other gears, up and down. Interesting he experienced the same glitch on the new 800. Other than that, over 20k trouble free miles on mine. Excellent little commuter. If this one retains the nimble, lightweight easy to live with manners of the 660, should be a winner.

      I beg to differ on the display, it’s got the in-between display from street tripple rs and it’s horrible in my experience both to read from and navigate menus. As for brakes, eh, as long as it feels good and got good power - Brembo branding alone doesn’t guarantee that.

    Very good review!
    I have a deposit down on this bike that should be arriving in march but the jury has been out until now. I own the tiger sport 660 RS. I add the RS because I’ve done a lot to improve its performance, which I won’t go into here, and make it the bike it should have been from the factory. I love my 660 but have been telling triumph for the past two years that they needed a bigger motor in the same touring package as the 660 and they seem to have answered the call. I still have to ride the new bike before I finalize the deal but from what I see here I think I’m sold.
    I have no problem with the display on the 660 and actually like the simplicity. I also think the triumph branded four piston front breaks will be more than adequate given the two piston on the 660 with upgraded EBC double sintered pads are more than enough breaking power. I would upgrade the new bike with EBC’s as well. it does make a difference. I’ll have to ride the new bike to determine if the stock suspension is up to snuff because I did go to Nitron on my 660 and it made a huge difference. Hopefully the new bike’s suspension has been beefed up and can be dialed in to fit my weight and a passenger.
    How was first gear, was it usable? I went to a 17 tooth front sprocket on the 660 because first gear was just unusable.
    hopefully they corrected the gearing on the new bike to make first longer before having to shift into second. this is the one thing you left out of your review. I would have liked to see the suspension set up to your weight and reviewed as well.
    thanks 👍

      According to Peter Stevens Triumph Adelaide the cost is just over $21,000 as I've just paid for mine and awaiting delivery. Wanted the 660 Tiger Sport (which I'd paid for) but was told only 2 are being brought into Australia at 81 horse power (lime green), the rest are to be LAM's (direct from Triumph Australia's directors mouth). If you want the 660 Tiger Sport de-regulated, you will loose your 2 year warranty.

    • @RacingAnt

      @@ashleyralston9142Triumph stuffed this up. We (NZ and Australia) needed the 80bhp 660 when there was no alternative. Now, everyone will just buy the 800, so we don't need the 80bhp 660...

    • @ashleyralston9142
      @ashleyralston9142 10 годин тому

      @ I was with Mark (sale man Peter Stevens Adelaide) when we both had an argument with the CEO Triumph Australia over the phone. We both got nowhere. It's Triumph Australia's decision all 660 Tiger Sports coming into Australia will be learner LAM's, Trident's and Daytona 660 will come as both 50/50. Only the Tiger Sport 660 is to be restricted to LAMs (all but the 1st 2). I've been riding since 1975 and hold my advanced drivers licence (motorcycle) and instructors licence. So why do I need a LAM's machine, warranty YES. So I agree I was forced to the 800 Tiger Sport but after watching this video I may have made a good decision.

      @RacingAnt 10 годин тому

      @@ashleyralston9142 I'd by the 800 for the upgraded brakes, suspension, bigger fuel tank, and extra body bits. Plus, the center stand option. The extra BHP is merely a bonus.

    • @ashleyralston9142
      @ashleyralston9142 9 годин тому

      @@RacingAnt That's what I went for in the end. Plus the top box and panniers. I've also asked for radiator cover (Triumph don't have it yet) plus front crash bars like those on the Triumph 900. Again neither are available YET. As I live out in the South Australian bush the radiator cover for the dirt roads is a must. Plenty of tarmac roads but a lot of dirt ones to that I have to put up with. Comes with the territory. With trade in I'll be in the plus that's for sure.

    Great review, looks to be the bike I will be replacing my 07 Tiger 1050 with. Gotta disagree with you on the comment about the front wheel being unfashionable in being a 17". Its just what so many of us have been waiting for from Triumph. A good upright sport tourer for the road. They haven't had one since the demise of the 1050 sport. Yes I know there's the 660 sport but lets face it, it is a bit short on power. 110-120 hp is perfect for this sort of bike.

    Great review. I would love to ride out there. Looks like Triumph wants folks to have 2 nice directions to upgrade triple enthusiasts from the 660. I have owned a Street Triple RS for 2 years and it looks like a tuned down version of that bike, with lower seating, better 2 up function, easier luggage upgrades, and more stout wind screen . All things that would make for a more rounded Street Triple with just a bit of sacrifice for handling, braking, and power. I think it's a nice fit to the lineup.

    Seeing that this 800 is the 660 with more power, there won't be any hesitation when it's released.

If you never leave paved roads, 17' just make more sense and provide better fun on the road. I have both, Tiger 660 and Tracer 9. Both fantastic bikes, 800 looks interesting upgrade for Tiger, but it makes it close to Tracer 9. How does it compare with the MT you owned in terms of engine feel and revs at highway speeds? I have a couple of triumphs and really want to like this one, but even the screen on the Tiger 850 sport (which I don't particularly care for) is better than what they have on the new Tiger 800 sport. You are spot on in getting users to accept the concept that an 800 sport is probably more realistic in terms of what riders need. I have and love the Tiger 850 sport, but I find myself doing 95% of my riding on road where at speeds of 85mph plus (toll speeds) the 888 triple gets a tad buzzy.

I want to tour but also have something that I can give some herbs to on a spirited group ride or just an early morning fang. I will get the cosmic yellow one. The new tracer is uglier than a mandrils bum.

      It doesn't feel quite as agile as a Street Triple, and when it hits a bump in the middle of a fast corner it get a little more unsettled than a Street Trip would. But I'd say it's 90% of the way there... but I'm a big fan of touring on naked bikes to be honest!

      Quite honestly, I"ve owned loads of Triumph triples. The Street triple is an amazing bike, but unless you do track days, or ride ultra aggressively, I reckon the 800 will be just as much fun and you'll be able to sit at 130kmh comfortably on motorways for long periods. I've ordered the 800!

It's the sound, feel and power to weight that I can't find anything to beat. I even get decent fuel range as mine has the 17.4lt tank. All it needs is a fairing. I'll test ride the 800, then see if it still gives me that feeling.
