PSA: Speed is still limited by Usb read/write speeds
Bingo
I'm glad someone brought this up. There's no way to make a current console get the absurd throughput we're seeing from the demos displayed by Sony.
yeah this is very misleading

Replace the harddrive with an actual SSD. I did this years ago.
John Ramirez did that too. Still doesn’t use the SSD to its full power. So that guy pretending you get similar speed to a PS5 (which will have a custom internal SSD melted to the board for an even faster speed than SSD on PC) by using an external SSD on PS4... what a joke..
On top of that PS4 games do not take advantage of the benefits fast loading of an SSD. If the PS5 is designed around SSD storage it can take better advantage of the loading.
The USB bottleneck will remove any benefit and you'd be better off just using a 7200 rpm usb drive.

@@PanzerDragoonWorld Faster than a PC? Where did this nonsense myth come from?
As impressive as it would be, they're not going to cram a Gen4 nvme SSD, the fastest SSD as of writing, in a PS5 or XB1, they're far more expensive than you think.
As in a Gen4 1TB NVME almost costs as much as a XB Series S.
So yeah, don't get your hopes up.
Snotnarok they can because they negotiate prices in bulk when mass producing consoles.
We get the full price when we buy SSDs via retail for PC or additional SSD. Think about that
I never felt like Kevin was being paid to sponsor a product...until today
Kevin getting real click baity, people already done this in like 2015...it doesn’t have the proper controllers and support, so it gets like a 10% upgrade which is nowhere near what the PS5 is promising..
If you install one internally it can make a substantial improvement to load times in games, but yeah it's extremely inconsistent because of the hardware limitations and lack of proper software utilization.
Bruh.

Bryce Czirr why are you on a PS4 vid?
I have an SSD on my Xbox X, in addition to load times , and it makes a difference in playability - some games with tons of textures can choke a bit (Division 2, for example). At least with the Xbox, you can have two storage devices, so I move my (previously!) slower-loading stuff to the SSD, and keep other games that don’t seem to need it on the spinning drives.

A question that I and maybe others have is why not just replace the HDD with an SSD for those who don’t have multiple consoles? And is there a difference in read/write speeds on the USB over the main disk reader on the PS4?
This guy still wearing his beanie , he lives in that thing😂😂😂 legend has it is not actually his hat, it’s his hair 🤷🏼♂️
Peace Peace he has no hair
Yo dawg, look at that camera. We got that camera on camera with a camera.
No wonder why he never mentioned the cost in the video.
It’s $100-$200, depending on what storage size you get. I got the upgraded 500 Gb model (T7) for $80. That’s pretty reasonable.
...How can you POSSIBLY know the PS5 speed when it hasn't even been revealed yet🤨
Thomas Mitchell There has been official reports on the PS5 speed comparative to the PS4 through interviews with Sony employees
you could also just put the ssd in the ps4 itself and have the performance be even faster. it's always painful to see some explain technology when they aren't quite sure what they're saying.
I think he is focusing on explaining just how this specific addition would be beneficial. Most casual users do not feel comfortable performing a system upgrade (no matter how easy it is).
Almost 200$, for anyone reading, you can get a 1tb SSD for like 100-130$ and install it directly in the system, and then you can get an external 2tb hard drive for 60$, so your OS will be super snappy along with the games installed on the SSD and then the external hard drive can just be all the stuff you don’t use as often so it’s not as important. 3x the amount of space with the same speed benefits for that price, even cheaper if you find deals
I must say, UA-cam’s video suggestion system is on point. Was watching a normal review of SSD drive but had intention on using it with PS4 and this video appeared on top in suggestions.
Why not just buy an Xbox One X, instead?
Well, you can do this on both platforms
It’s says get PS 5
on your PS4 but yet he’s on Xbox one what the heck wrong system
what he's not telling you is you'll need a "c" class connection cable. translation? USB 3.1 connector!
Or just put SSD as an internal hard drive on PS4 pro?
yes and no. sooner or later you will fill up that internal ssd, this way you can unplug external ssd and put it the new one.
also everytime when replacing internal ssd you have to install firmware on that, and go through the set up process. i mean, you know all of this. but i also like having internal ssd rather than external ssd.
You do realize you can put an internal SSD in and still use and external right? That kinda nullifies your grievance list
@@radeononi758 what kevin implied here is you can get the loading speed of ps5 on your ps4 pro (with the external SSD), but theres the limitation on the external ssd since the internal SSD runs faster then the external one.

Hello there. Do wanna see ps5 another concept design ? I'll bet u gonna mind blowing. Cuz the design something u never seen before. Something that never crossed in ur mind. Its kinda crazy. Just checkout my channel.
Something that he failed to bring up is the cost, which I think bring a whole new side of the conversation of the next generation and how expensive they'll be. SSD are ridiculously expensive still. The price per gig has come down tremendously since 2013, but still for a 1Tb SSD the cost is around 150 to 200 dollars depending. (not including special offers) for the same price you can get 2 to 4 Tb hard drives at 7200 rpm (highest rpm Hard drives). Yes the Hard drives are dramatically slower at times but unless the consoles are using nvme SSD's you won't see that dramactic of a difference unless the next generation of consoles are going to cost upwards of 600 to 700 dollars. I don't know, for what the console manufactuers are promising, all I hear is more and more expenses. Definitely anxious on what the price is going to be. If cost as much as a decked out PC, no thank you.
No Kevin. You don’t use USB on an SSD, that’s just dumb… you upgrade the drive internally through the SATA interface using a 2.5” SSD. Especially at larger capacities, the T5 is a terrible choice for what you can get.
Tell me more..
An SSD has less RW cycles than a HDD. Meaning they can have a shorter lifespan.
Nope

People would say anything for a paid review
Left out the price that for one of those Samsung ones at only 1TB it's £149.99 i think I can wait the extra 30 seconds for my game to load and still use my 4TB external hard drive
Why would you not just replaces the HDD with a Sata ssd? Sata has to be way faster than usb plus then you don’t have something hanging off your system and using a USB port plus the sata ssd is half the cost of comparable t5s.... this doesn’t make sense. Just a big add?
This actually seems pretty nice. Instead of having to carry a backpack full of disks, you can just carry 1 or 2 Samsung SSDs to your friends house. I no longer need to carry physical disks anymore.
I don't know if the SSD on the other PS4 works. Maybe it's tied to your PS4 and if you try to connect it to your friends PS4 it may need to reformat it.
You’d probably need to add your acc too so it can be played cuz of licensing stuff
I’m drunk so give it to me

PS5 speeds...you realize PS5's have roughly 4,000mbps speed compared to 500....but the usb cable also slows it down.
the usb port on the back is 3.1 (ps4 pro) so it is faster than internal sata port.
@@mr.electronx9036 But internal affect also OS and makes it overall more stable.
buy any SSD, is gonna be WAY better than the OG HDD, put it inside, is just ONE SCREW.
So you are telling me external SSD gives you speed equivalent to what PS5 will achieve ?
When putting an internal SSD inside a PS4 Pro is better than any external SSD and internal SSD is not adding much ? That’s what I have so I know...
Yep, much more beneficial to put the thing inside your PS4
Bruh... sata 3 versus USB 3. You know which is faster. Put the SSD inside the ps4 pro. Regular ps4 and slim has sata 2.
SLG64 bruh, you obviously didn’t get what I said: yes I have put a SSD inside my PS4 Pro already and it helps a bit but not that much because the PS4 Pro has a bottleneck elsewhere anyway (regular PS4 is worse).

A 2 tb SSD external hard drive cost $250 EACH!!!!! Yeah I’m good with my $50 4 tb HDD External which also comes in a protective case as well
I'm sorry but the video has holes. I agree though that SSD is worth it. Heck, my PS3 and WiiU also have SSD's.
Better off getting a much cheaper internal SSD and an external HDD.
Just got a patch for a game on your SSD? You'll notice your "other" folder on the PS4 HDD getting large, that's the newly downloaded DLC and patches being held on the PS4 HDD.
You'll have to copy games back to the PS4 HDD and then back to the SSD to keep it all together if the game gets a patch or DLC.
The 1tb t5 is $200...you could buy a whole new system almost for that price.
Take off the beanie!

It's not likeyou buy it and it's solely for gaming. You could use it like any other storage drive, but this is 4x faster than slow as fuck HDD. It's still going to be useful regardless. I got a 1TB SSD for 100$, prices have gone done a lot!
I'd try the fast SSDS to make sure but you will only get a slight boost as the bandwidth of the consoles is the issue like I mentioned before and u will only shave of 1 or 2 secs compared to processing in a few secs on a consoles only PC'S take advantage as far as I am aware Digital Foundery did a piece on this. Be best buying a 8TB HD in Black Sunday Sale got a 10TB for XB last year for £149 but wanted one for PS4 but Sony said they only support 8TB.

Internal SSD on PS4 Pro runs faster than external SSD.
(PS4 Pro uses SATA III 6 Gigabit per second interface while regular PS4 uses SATA II 3 Gigabit per second interface)
External SSD on regular PS4 should run faster than internal SSD (USB 3.0 ports on PS4 consoles max out at 5 Giagbits per second)
Hello
Might improve speeds but ultimately still not worth it overall. Inefficient compared to what the ps5 will be

Check out Digital Foundry's UA-cam video regarding SSD performance on PS4.
This video is a lie. PS5 will use next gen PCIe 4.0 SSDs. Using a SSD internally or externally on any PS4 console WILL NOT get anything close to PS5 speeds THOUGH yes a SSD on PS4 will still give a slight speed bump compared to a mechanical hard drive which is noticeable when downloading games and in loading screens.
USB ports on PS4 are only USB 3.0 if I recall correctly which bottlenecks the speed of this Samsung SSD.
PCIe 4.0 NVME SSDs are what PS5 and Xbox Scarlett will use.
@@PSYCHOV3N0M That's fine, it's at least more storage that can be transferred easily through consoles

TLDR: It still wont be as fast as an SSD on PC because of limitations. In other words, dont waste your money with this since the PS5 is coming next year.
External Ssd might hit 500 gbs ..Ps5 will use internal pcie 4.0 - well over 4 gig a sec - Ps5 is miles ahead

The bottleneck would be the USB port its using. And the consoles themselves still bottleneck read-write speeds of flash memory because the systems are slow regardless. Upgrading anything to flash memory on these consoles is absolutely pointless.
Even with the Samsung sponsorship, wouldn't have been more nextgen like to replace the internal HDD with a 1 or 2To Samsung QVO or something ?
Where's the side by side comparison to show how much of a difference it makes with load times?
Better off with the Samsung Evo 860 internal that way you get some more advantage from it like faster boot up time.
And external drive is a pain if you lose power or something not only did your system scan for corrupt but afterwards the external a similar thing with the external memory.
Also I felt the games run much better off the Samsung Evo 860 then the Samsung t5 even combined with both internal and external SSD
I would be holding off drives anyway to the PS5 and if you can use an external hard drive then I would you thinking about the Samsung T7
Big open world games need a lot of storage
Skyrim,Lozbotw and Witcher 3: Am I a joke to you (all of these are less than 35GB)
Using one for six month loads way better. You can get a cheap one on amazon and buy a housing.
So ps5 is out already to compare speed to? Edit: 12/2022 i put an ssd on my ps4 and have been using it for 3 months with zero noticeable difference in speeds
Hi kevin
This Samsung sponsorship is sponsored by dbrand
I just hope it doesn't sound like a jet engine about to go off like the PS4 has
The difference is between like very very slow to still very slow
Ps4 pro should have come with ssd. Ps5 is going to be a small jump in performance. Probably removing limitations on read and write performance.
I wonder why game consoles don't have more storage. On my Xbox 1TB means around 12 games. On my PC I have 800GB of my 2TB HDD used for like 25 games. I just wonder why games on consoles feel so much bigger than on PC even tho they aren't.
