I agree with Krista regarding AI replacing humans. Since most people don’t have a stake in the businesses using the technology, I don’t understand how this will benefit society as a whole financially. Businesses use technology to increase their bottom lines, of which employees are the biggest drain. Once this technology is installed and paid for, employers will save lots of money to add back to their profits. I can only see this benefitting employers and shafting the rest of society.
The phony job interview thing has long been something that makes me angry, too, and I know for a fact that I was the victim of this several times in my working life. I think it's most common in government employment and nonprofit employment where they're following an obligatory legal requirement to interview at least three candidates. But I suspect in the lawsuit-happy world we live in today more private employers are following the practice as well to innoculate against claims of discrimination.
Yep, 2-3 candidates are actually preferred but often only 1 or 2 are wanted. 2-3 are back ups. With candidates 3, 4, 5 on reserve. Shameful. Common in academia. Often they have a person in mind - long before job is advertised - and have all but hired them and the interviews with two more are just Kabuki.
I always look at the topics to see what I want to pay attention to. Who typed them today? Complement should be compliment. What is a trangration? Sorry to complain, but I am a stickler for spelling.
For the Mac question. Absolutely no, you do not need and should not install any “security software.” And no, you definitely do not install any password tools. That functionality has been native to the OS for many many years.
The State needs to offer free re-training and education and living stipends for those workers sho are displaced by technology. The United States needs free university like Finland and the Philippines has.
I worked for two rich fortune 500 companies for over 25 years. Both promised to either send us to school or pay for training but never happened. I had to spend over $350 a year to get CEU'S for the electrical license they insisted we maintain but never pulled any permits. When I asked to either work 4 ten hours days one week or move my start time back just once every two years to attend a great electrical expo that had over 100 companies. Ended up using a personal day.
@Clark you can choose to believe that because new jobs have always been created in the past when new technologies made some professions obsolete that it will continue to happen indefinitely into the future, but it's important to acknowledge it's not a law of the universe. (And beneficial to think about what policies we as a society could enact to limit the effects of widespread unemployment even as we produce more than enough for everyone to consume; should we opt for increased poverty of the masses to protect the wealthy few who own those technologies or should we consider other systems that increase the living standards of all?)
But in America a "wealthy" society has turned out to mean that most of the wealth has accrued to the top with a huge, obscene gap down to lower middle class and the poor that used to be the middle class and the not so poor. I'm not buying it, Clark. If automation can eliminate some jobs in order to pay remaining jobs a true living wage, that would be one thing, but that simply does not happen. It all goes to the already wealthy, which makes for the struggling and angry society we have today.
Equity is what will raise wealth in the U.S.. We collectively have a problem. We are not willing to address population decline and assimilation of proven assets of undocumented upstanding productive workers. Each newborn child should receive $10,000 put into an IRA. The difference between the poor, rich, and the truly wealthy is the wealthy own everything and invest in their money into passive income streams. Eventually the poor and even the quasi rich will own nothing because the ultra wealthy are accumulating everything at a pace NEVER EVER SEEN before.
you'd need to have rules in place that it cannot be touched, not even with penalties! Guarantee, there would be lots of parents taking money out to borrow for things. I know far too many people that can't even hold on to their own 401k's cuz they take the money out, especially when changing jobs.
Then why did a majority voting public vote for the wealthy to lead? I know they heard him say he would put the wealthy in control because they are wealthy because of their smarts. The people clapped for him while I 😮 and just sat astounded. Why would the average person turn their future over to the ones who are turning them over and shaking them until they get every last penny?
I did a rollover of all my 401ks to a Trad IRA with Fidelity. It was easy, relatively fast, and I had access to low fee index funds. Also did the same for my husband. This seems to be rarely discussed.
My husband and I did the same. Now converting strategically to Roth while remaining at a lower tax bracket. Paying tax out of pocket and not in the conversion.
Years ago I was "ghosted" after being hired for a job. They never got back to me about the start date and never responded to my numerous calls. I contacted the Dept. of Labor in my state (Idaho) and was told that they have heard this complaint many times but can't do anything about it. Wasn't happy.
If I have to go to a kiosk to order food, I may as well go to the grocery story and pick up something to cook at home or get something from the deli. The personal touch is part of the reason I eat out.
I like ordering at kiosks. Way too many QSR employees don’t speak or understand English well, and way too often get the order wrong. Using a kiosk eliminates one handoff and one more possibility of error in the transaction process. Generally, I order on the store’s app and go through the drive through for pickup. I don’t have to talk to any humans who don’t know the language.
What happens to crypto if there's an emp or major solar event that wipes out the grid? The first few day after such an event cash will still have some value. Look up the Carrington event if you don't know about solar events.

At 22:00, I'm more aligned with Kristen's opinion that AI will put too many people out of work too quickly. The economy may eventually utilize the replaced workers, but it could be many painful years (decades?) until the economy reaches low unemployment again.
I left a job back in the 90’s & withdrew my 401k. When I signed up for my social security, I was informed I had $700 left in that 401k; however, that company went out of business & I believe moved operations s out of the country. I tried to find info on them but could not. So I am out of that money.

Assuming it is correct. I find AI wrong 95% of the time! I test it by asking things I KNOW the answer to and it has not been right once. (I’ll give it 5% for the simple stuff.) AI is only as good as the source and if the sources are not good, the answers stink!
Christa, get educated. Clark is exactly right about AI and automation. Look at history. More technology has always improved productivity and our standard of living.
That's my philosophy, just enough food to live and health care. I have everything else. I'm considering cancelling insurance not required by law. Insurance companies too often fail to pay as promised so what's the point in paying those high premiums? I'd rather that the risk.

That stupid Zelle comment is fake news. Nobody hacks Zelle without the account holder getting a code by text that they need to verify the transfer. If they have your phone, pin, and bank account, thats not Zelle’s fault. They can hack anything with that.
Clark you’ve been watching too much liberal press. Several smaller, probably thousands businesses had to fire up to half of their employees because of the $20.00 an hour minimum wage. Check it out. John
"raising minimum wage to $20/hr for unskilled labor in California did nothing" is a bit too strong. In-N-out Burger, a California exclusive (for the most part) moved to Tennessee as a direct result of the increased cost of labor in California. Clark STINKS. All of his comments about automation displacing people and it being good for the economy are ridiculous. There are no replacement jobs for a lot of those people, especially in retail and manufacturing. Companies are NOT freeing them up to perform more meaningful and important functions. They get fired.

A bit more on Bitcoin. It uses a lot of energy. We could use that in more productive ways.
Extremely important point!
5:41 One of my biggest career mistakes was accepting jobs with no 401k. Should have held out for a job where that was available.
Do you have a Roth IRA? If not, look into opening one for yourself.
@kaohsiung99 I do now. I am talking about 30 years ago. But I did not for many years, dating back before the invention of the Roth IRA
