This album isn't really my favorite by Ren, but I still bought 9 copies/versions.
I love so many of his older tracks. Until Ren, I only listened to rap and country if it was funny. I can't wait until his next album. More rock and roll. As good as Sick Boi is, the best is yet to come.
this is ren's 2nd album, his first "freckled angels" is dedicated to ren's best mate joe who took his own life.
ren is multi talented, he can sing, rap, writes his own beats, plays guitar, plays piano, he can perform live, does acoustic versions of his own work, produces his own music, makes/directs his own music videos, a truely independant artist, in every sence of the word.
he is not a one hit wonder, "hi ren" has 20million views, check out "chalk outlines" and "how to be me" then you'll see what a great singer he is.
I have been following him since before 'Hi Ren' mate . Love all his material but focussed on 'Hi Ren' as that was undoubtedly a turning point in his career . For a few weeks it was like every 3rd status on facebook was that video 🤣 never seen anything like that before
This was the first time in 20 years I'd spent money on music outside of live gigs. Phenomenal talent

Ren’s last live performance was in September 2022 with his band, The Big Push. He was here in Canada starting in 2023, a few weeks after releasing “Hi Ren” on UA-cam December 2022. From the first time I saw him I knew he was destined for something amazing!❤

@@YCTR well, it was his last live gig to an audience. He has recorded some live videos doing some songs from Sick Boi but acoustic. He also filmed walking scenes for "Su*c*de" and performed the live medley "For Joe" both in Calgary.

I am 74, and it feels like a new life for me. ♥I still love the Disco, oldies and country, some acapella groups, but Ren has me thirsty for more original and exciting music with exceptional lyrics. He has also introduced us to more talented singers/performers with his duets. Chinchilla for one, ♥who I think is amazing in her own style. I could go on, but there is no need to. Those that love Ren already know. ☺
Excellent commentary. The number 1 is well deserved indeed. I would add another factor is Ren's character: his kindness, self-awareness, honesty and bravery in talking about difficult subjects. It comes from his journey, but he could equally have become a very bitter person as a result of his suffering.

Your not wrong Ren feels like family and every Renegade is also family. We all love Ren and we all love everyone that loves Ren. What he has done means a lot to so many people, it's hard to explain to people that have not been down the Ren rabbit hole yet how inspiring this journey is, but don't let that that exclude you. This rabbit hole has no barriers and everyone is welcome. We want more and more people to feel how inclusive Ren's music is. Ren is so humble I honestly don't think he realises how much he has changed peoples lives. Don't just buy the album (but do buy it lol) watch the video's watch the reactions, read the comments and most importantly react to those comments. Because renegades really do listen

He’s no sell out. He’s just helping society to hear more of his music. Whilst helping his team earn more money. He would have been mental to no push the album once he realised it had traction. And he finds the irony in those past lyrics amusing. Don’t chase numbers statistic or stats…. Never had a top ten. 1 year and he’s smashed those lyrics to pieces. Come on Ren. So proud of this honorary brightonian.

Yeah , I think DSOTM jumped up 50 or so positions because people were talking about Roger Waters new version of it which didn't quite have the same impact on the charts. He didn’t need to compromise on staying true to himself to achieve number 1. You did it Ren! We did it Renegades! 53-year-old non-rap fan here in Mesa, AZ USA and after finding Ren back in January I’ve been hooked. I like to say he REN-EWED by mind, heart and soul musically speaking; I’m a lifelong music fan and it’s like Ren is making me really hear music for the first time in my life. Between his channel and a handful of reaction channels I’m over 3,000 Ren videos and I bought every copy of all his music, even the vinyl and cassettes which I can’t even play! LOL 😊I’m a lifelong RENegade!
I still buy the odd bit of physical music when i see a small up and coming band on tour even though i cant play cds or cassettes. No cassette or CD player but havd some vinyl decks for records
I'm 54, in San Diego, CA, and I can't stand contemporary pop and rock music, including the garbage they call rap now.. Growing up in the 70s and 80s, I was lucky enough to listen to so, so much good music. My mother listen to North Mexican dance music and loved 70s disco. I watched 'Saturday Night Fever' at a movie theater in 1977 with my mom and her sisters. My dad took us to see Star Wars. My dad listened to classical music and Elvis and he would take us to live performance musical shows (Swan Lake). My friends on the block during elementary school were all older than me. I was ten and they were all 15 and listening to what is now considered classic rock. During Jr. & Sr. High Schools, the 80s, New Wave, New Romantic, Mod, high school dance music, local rock bands, the beginning of rap (Blondie, Public Enemy, NWA, The Beastie Boys). I was buying these compilation vinyl albums of psychedelic garage bands from the 60s. The Paisley Underground. Techno, Hip-Hop. I lived in Seattle during the 90s and was in the middle of the Grunge scene.
I'm a lifelong music fan too.

I have learned a whole new vocabulary from following Ren : bars, flows, schemes, cadences - WTF ? All I know is that it sounds good. I think something that helped Ren, apart from all his incredible talents and being such a nice guy, is his incredible back catalogue. He has been making brilliant music for years but, because of his health, has not been able to push it to the extent that it deserves. I genuinely believe Ren is a once-in-a-generation artist. Love this! Ren walks his talk as far as I'm concerned, he's extremely generous with his time, his money, and his fans (often asking them to show support other artists). He deserves the spotlight, and to make money. He's got an expensive health problem to deal with, it's severe enough to cut him off from making music and he has no control over that. So he should grab what he can while he can, it'd be stupid not to. Also, he's having such a positive effect on so many people, don't we want that to spread to as many people as possible? I do!

Awesome... Ren never dreamed of this, I am sure, but I know I did, just like thousands and thousands of others. It's great to be part of this community, to be part of that energy that will enable him to make more music. It seems to me that making music is all he wants to do, and to have that music heard by as many people as are able to hear it, just like you said. Today's result was so wonderful. It made me cry. It felt like the good guys won for once.
I think at this point I can say I've never been as fanatical about an artist, and I was a full on Slipknot maggot lol. But, just like the metal I loved then, I find his music healing. It's the music I need. It gives me strength to keep fighting. I can't repay that. But seeing good things happen, and knowing I had even the tiniest part? That's good 🙂
It`s magic how he brings together slipknot fans, Dr Dre fans and Pink Floyd fans. It seems like there is no genre barricade to enjoy what he does.

I came across REN only last year with HOLD ON which blew my mind and then HI Ren another blown mind and knew this guy is going global he is truly an Artist without Corporate interference - the essence of his soul comes out in his tunes through his pain alchemy and positivity brings hope to thousands that they can look in introspect at their own lives and be inspired by his journey as he says "when the tide comes in all boats are lifted" he is the new world energy that we can all tap into and bring out the best in people into a new world of hope - the old world is done its finished - we either surf the waves in the new or die off - he is the catalyst for so many - deserves it he has worked hard - you words back up what we all think - we have been RENdered into his world :) Its the beginning as his back catalogue has phenomenal quality of songs - so I am very excited about his future and all the candy songs we will munch on in the future - nice one - Im 64 ive heard a lot - and he has supercharged up new music to be listened to and get excited about - brilliant

I think the success of this album comes down to his phenomenal writing he has tapped in to a nerve and its something we have all felt and can relate to.
Has he sold out HELL NO, he caught a big wave and rode it, why wouldn't you, a lot of this has come from his friends and fans pushing the album, I would say people wanted it for him rather than he was chasing it. That and the British love an underdog!

The greatest sculptures in history were created slowly, persistently, over a long period of time, one small chip at a time. Chip, chip, chipping away. Ren's illness is the marble, his musical artistry is the chisel...and look at the masterpieces he's now created. A modern day musical Michaelangelo forged through fire....and the world is better for it.

I'm so happy! i'm 44 and have a sickboi Album. I'm not a huge fan of rap but I like what Ren does so i fall into that group I guess. he can elevate any genre of music and getting me into rap was a tough gig to be honest! The only rapper i've ever really liked is M+M but in middle age I can't stand all this mumble rap stuff. It sounds like wallpaper to me. Not Ren's stuff though. Hes more creative and original and I'd say more talented than most of the other hip hop/ rap artists and he can do everything else too! Not many of them can sing and do a rock song can they? He's a once in a life time talent and a great song writer.
The good Hip Hop is out there , it`s just harder to find with the influx of terrible mumble rap that the kids love flooding the charts. I may make a video suggesting some underground rappers that Ren fans may also enjoy

Ren made MORE than music. He created a community. His consistent kindness towards everyone, even those who called him out is rare in any sector of the population, but in this field, even more so. He drew us in with his raw honesty, he held nothing back and gave a voice to so many without one. For some of his fans, like myself, I felt like I wasn't alone. His music resonated with me. Because it came from a place that no one wants to be and only one who has been there can share the experience so accurately.
He made us laugh, cry, question, soul search and look at the world we live in, through an either vastly different lens, or gave credence to what we already knew. And then he brought us together. Through live chats and games, and a "common" house potato challenge that still gives me a good chuckle. He got people laughing, sharing and ultimately finding a wee corner of the world where kindness was king and compassion it's currency.
No one expected this to happen, and I could never speak for the man himself, but I don't believe that this was the goal. I truly believe that music was a lifeline for him. I was a way to survive in the darkest times. Hell I am a shit singer and a so-so uke player but when it gets bad, it's my sword and shield. I can imagine that with all the musical genius he has, that this had to be a part of his need to create the incredible music that we get to love.
When it started to look like the album was gaining some success and that perhaps, maybe, just maybe, a true artist, self made, no label just passion and drive could succeed, the RENegades went to work. As much as we all knew that meant that the close connection may be lost as the demands on his time would increase, we wanted him to win. He may not have ever set out to chase "numbers, statistics or stats" but when the talent and hard work presented that opportunity to him, we wanted it for him. Seeing the excitement and joy on the face of a young man who has been through more in 33 years than most will in a lifetime, that meant everything.
I sobbed this morning when Radio 1 made the announcement, listening along with others in the rabbit hole. So many of us were in tears. I have never in my 54 years ever felt so much joy and pride for someone I have never met. It felt like we all won. This journey that he has shared with us has been a gift. The past year has been one of my darkest, made much lighter, by a young man from Wales, who I hadn't heard of until the day Hi Ren dropped.
Selling out isn't success, it's abandoning your values to gain success. Ren never did. Sell out is often virtue signaling, which is an excellent way to keep the "little guy" little. And Ren is a giant. Much love to Ren, his band of friends, everyone who helped him create what I feel is more than music and to all the RENegades. Our Sick Boi did it!!!!

as a 50+ metelhead biker i can say i dont like generic rap but Ren transends all that! one of the best artists ive seen in years he deserves the number 1
a lot of terrible , generic rap music out there but also some of the most thought provoking stuff in tat genre. It`s modern day folk music with banging beats and clever wordplay when done right , as Ren does
I'm 51 and never been into rap or hip hop. Discovered Ren in March this year and he leaves me speechless with his phenominal talent. I almost cried at the news tonight, felt like a proud mum.

In no way do I want my next comment to be misinterpreted as I'm a MASSIVE fan, but Ren's genius marketing certainly had a huge impact. I've no doubt that thousands bought all of the various styles of cd/vinyl/cassette. I know I did.
He's very good at marketing for sure. These days you need to have a part of that side to your projects to stand a chance of even breaking even through music
