I was gifted a a TR-505 from a friend of mine that bought it in the 80s and just basically stored it away in the garage. It's been fun messing with it.
I got my 505 ready, I actually found your channel from this drum machine I got broken by a friend and fixed it. I didn't know how to use it, and BOOM found this gem of a channel.
Back in the day, probably in 85 or 86. A customer brought one of these drum machines into my studio I own the Rolland 707 which I love because it has separate outs in the built-in mixer Butt actually like the toms of the 505 better than the 707 and the girl that brought the 505 in the Studio had a hack put on it and it gave it separate out on the back using mini plugs if I remember correctly, the Tom’s were coming out of one output but even if that had simpered out for the kick snare and other instruments which made it nice for recording.
@@MadeOnTape yeah I know what you mean that one might not be as bad doing, but but on today’s technology, they’re making everything so small. It be easy to fry out the circuitboard trying to solder.
I have to say that’s actually a really cool little drum machine. It might not be super sophisticated but the sounds are solid, and they are also familiar. If you ever feel generous, I would love a .wav file of one hit of the snare and one hit of the kick. I think they would be awesome to use as layers underneath acoustic drums. 👍🏻😁

Happy 505 day! Are you still using a DBX 163X for your compression? Looking into getting a budget compressor but most of the 163X's I see online are more than $100, there are some other used rack units from DBX and Behringer that are in the $60-$80 range but at that price I feel like maybe I should just get a good compression pedal. Thoughts?

Yeah, there are a couple used Behringer Composers on Reverb for pretty cheap that I had my eye on, I just know Behringers can be finicky sometimes so I was unsure if I should get that or something like a Boss compressor pedal that I know will be durable. I'd be using it for smoothing out bass and horns, maybe guitar, and also to glue the mix together during mix down.
