Weld it to the pegs, go to hardware store and buy some Jet collars, they will bolt around the bars, and you can weld braces to the collars, then the ramp can be removable, possibly even installed onto other bikes

Check out a vintage centerstand. It was a kickstand for load bearing bikes that let the bike be straight up and down while at rest. Popular on cycle trucks, and early TOC motorbicycles. You could also use it as part of the stability when doing tricks off the ramp.

I Grew up riding there.Its definitely my favorite skatepark because of its history and the many great people and friends I've meet there throughout the years.

FYI guys the ramp will fold inwards as you hit it you need a lock out part on the underside both sides like a sliding bolt on each side tube over the gap whith the hinges you have cut and created ? Cant wait to see yall send it 👊

That park is amazing! And all the colors make it just stand out and add a lot of flair to it. If I'm ever in NYC, I'll definitely be checking it out. Thanks for sharing. Love seeing the different parks in different places and being able to see the men behind it doing so much for their community was amazing. They're even teaching kids how to do different projects to learn skills and have fun, unique things. Just awesome
The "vertical" weld is actually called an overhead. Haha. And to fill those holes aim at your weld kind of into the hole an give it short zaps to let it cool down in between. Then if you want to clean it up you can grind a little and put a pass over the whole weld after.

Big tip is to suck up the landing and STICK to the wall before hoping off bud lol Like Scott said also keep your weight over the back tire basically doing a wall slap/tap x-up as thats the cheater way to do it then put your front tire down and pop like you mean it! lol This is wild to see and makes me want to go ride again!
I think you guys should definitely attach the ramp to the frame of the bike opposed to the forks because if matty doesn't hit it square it could mess up the stearing and lead to disaster
Hey Scott, wear safety glasses when around the machine if you're worried the rays can reflect off things, the safety glasses help to prevent the rays from coming through a bit, i was a welder for 4 years now i work on the railroad, Career switch lol
Matty the big holes in your welds are called key holes, you can avoid those by speeding up as the metal is getting hotter, get a nice puddle then start spreading those dimes, try welding in a cursive e style
You can visably see Matty start to uncross the xup before he touches the wall in the slow mo 😂 sometimes it's hard to admit to ourselves that the commitment wasn't there

The hinge needs to be set forward the thickness of the wood your putting on it or it will not close. Two sheets of 12mm would be best, so hinge need to be 22-24mm spaced forward. Great work guy's
Were those hinges stainless steel? Hinges made to be welded dont look like that. If you are welding dissimilar metals there is a pretty good chance it isnt bonded. Be careful!
to fill a weld hole, tact each side of the whole. And build it up and then grind it. But do it slowly so the metal doesn’t get too hot and melt. Or just take your time on the welds. Don’t rush . Go slow. Let it cool a little if your scared of melting, then continue To finish the weld.
When you get welders flash in you eyes, it makes blisters on your eyeballs which itch and hurt. That "vertical weld" is actually a overhead weld. Vertical would be going from up to down.
After welding galvanized drink lots of milk, it will help get rid of the toxins you inhaled. And there's no need to weld thin tubing going vertical up. Vertical up Is mainly for structural applications/thicker material. Plus you don't just run a stringer bead 4tttt56 up, you have to weave it. The saying "practice makes perfect" fits perfectly with welding except there will be room to improve.
I’m thinking the bike kicker needs 4 fold out legs ( kickstands) that way you can pull up to a spot, fold the ramp down, kick out the legs and send it!! Great work boys. 👌🏼

If Matty continues welding there's a couple important things he's doing that are unsafe and he should know. Harbour Freight autodim are sketchy. The time between flash and dim can be so slow it damages your eyes and there's no way to fix it. Also they will randomly quit and not dim, could be in the middle of a bead. At the very least go to Atwood's or somewhere and buy a Lincoln or KT Industries autodim, obviously there are more expensive options but those are safe and reliable while not being super expensive. Also buy him a welding jacket or atleast a thick ranch style button up. A long sleeve t-shirt will not prevent burns. Better to be sweaty and safe than realize later you burned your insides. I've had numerous burns, way worse than a sunburn and 3 people including my dad, who welded in a white t-shirt, burned themselves in the stomach and had blisters on their back. Meaning they burnt through every layer of skin and every organ in the way to make it out of their backs. It was gnarly. He also needs decent welding gloves, but buy TIG welding gloves, they're lighter weight and more flexible meaning more trigger control. Buy actual welding clamps and vice grips, they're all metal and made to hold specific shapes and can be used to ground your metal. Wood clamps that have any rubber or plastic will melt and usually don't hold tight enough to prevent warping. If you use a metal welding table to ground to, don't put your sweaty arm on it. It's unpleasant. If you can't weld indoors with the doors shut and it's windy, don't weld. The wind will blow the shielding gas away and can compromise the weld, along with it looking ugly. You can turn up the regulator but I wouldn't rely on that. And avoid welding upside down, as in over your head. Make sure your tip and shield on the end of the gun is clean, slag builds up and can prevent shielding gas from getting out. They sell antisplatter to dip the tip in. They make weld thru primer also if it's a multi day project and you don't want rust. Mostly it's just safety related things. Don't trust old guys or people who weld for work, they will tell you the right way but won't follow their own rules. Even I tack without a welding hood, without gloves and in a t-shirt. But it's minimal. Stoked you're getting into some metal work. It opens up so many options being able to build whatever you want, even gifts for holidays or cool decorations. Pretty easy to transfer into automotive fabrication and metal work too. It's been fun to watch. Matty picked it up super quickly. Can't wait to see the ramp bike finished.
I think Matt, found his calling. Fabricating. I get the benefits of doing it often as I work industrial maintenance. One tip I can give you is, be careful welding galvanized steel. The smoke and gasses from it, can give you what is called,, galvanized poisoning. ☠toxic

Matty, to weld gaps, do small little circles around the edge and let it cool, you slowly build out the material. you cant do it in one motion because it will get too hot and it will melt and fall into the hole. slow and steady, just go around the edges of the hole and itll get smaller until you have it closed. with vertical welding, start at the bottom and drag the weld up. vertical welding is a lot harder though, just wait for overhead.
I rode w/ some of the 2-Hip guys and I still have my signed flyer from the event almost 15 or so years ago.... Got yelled at by the event guy for jumping the mobile box jump but I got a thumbs up from the riders. LoL
Will need a hinge plate that covers the gap. It’s doable but a bit more complex then they are planning for I’d say. Gonna be sweet once it’s figured out.

Idea for attaching the Ramp to bike, If u welding it then I say weld two 2x2 square tube from the bottom of the forks just above the axels to the outer ramp fram and for the top weld on to the handle bars at the base to the outer frame of the ramp and then same square tubing make braces from at least ine corner to corner on both sides, cant wait to see what u guys do with it!!
Get rid of the handlebars. Clamp a tube into the stem and weld supports off of the tube to support the ramp. Weld little handles on the back of the ramp for the rider.

Matty, to weld gaps, do small little circles around the edge and let it cool, you slowly build out the material. you cant do it in one motion because it will get too hot and it will melt and fall into the hole. slow and steady, just go around the edges of the hole and itll get smaller until you have it closed. with vertical welding, start at the bottom and drag the weld up. vertical welding is a lot harder though, just wait for overhead.
I probably would of went ahead and welded through the holes in the hinge, just fill in the holes basically.

Pretty much did the same thing last year, having a blast and loving the progression.
I rode w/ some of the 2-Hip guys and I still have my signed flyer from the event almost 15 or so years ago.... Got yelled at by the event guy for jumping the mobile box jump but I got a thumbs up from the riders. LoL

can't see that folding up once it's bin boarded lads you'll have to leave a gap between the boards either side of the hinges
Will need a hinge plate that covers the gap. It’s doable but a bit more complex then they are planning for I’d say. Gonna be sweet once it’s figured out.
Make sure you don’t breathe in too much of the smoke from welding that galvanized tube, I prefer y’all alive and stuff 👍

Idea for attaching the Ramp to bike, If u welding it then I say weld two 2x2 square tube from the bottom of the forks just above the axels to the outer ramp fram and for the top weld on to the handle bars at the base to the outer frame of the ramp and then same square tubing make braces from at least ine corner to corner on both sides, cant wait to see what u guys do with it!!

I dont understand why you didnt flip the hinges over so its flat? Now you got the bump of the actual hinge on the surface your going to ride.
Get rid of the handlebars. Clamp a tube into the stem and weld supports off of the tube to support the ramp. Weld little handles on the back of the ramp for the rider.
You need to frame the $20, spray paint the X and every new visitor gets the chance to claim it by nailing the X in the 3 tries!
