The distance between two given points or surfaces is called linear measurement.
Linear measurement applies to measurements of length, height, diameter, thickness etc.
Linear Measuring Instruments are;
Steel rule
Callipers, dividers etc. used in combination with steel rules
Dial indicators and Vernier callipers
Micrometres
Slip gauges
comparators.
