Love this….I was born Nov 1964….I might’ve been too young but I do remember my parents watching The Lawrence Welk Show…they watched it every Saturday (or Sunday) night. It’s much better music back in the days than the crap they have these days.
My grandma took me to see the Lawrence Welk Show live on my 16th birthday as a surprise. Unfortunately I had just dropped 10 hits of LSD and was on my way out the door when she arrived to pick me up. My parents made me go. It was unbelievable. I never had such a great time. I danced and sang. I even shook Lawrence Welks hand and cried.
Wish I could go back in time and enjoy that show sitting next to my mom again. Nothing now days can compare with how refined shows were made in the past.
I'm with you. Mama and I sat every Saturday evening watching Lawrence walk , eating potato chips and buttermilk. 😢. How I miss her and couldn't bring myself to watch for a long time with out tearing wishing she was here. , and I still cannot stay focused to watch an entire program.
I remember watching Lawrence Welk as a child with my grandma. My mom and dad loved it too. I just lost my dad on June 3. I am 45 now and watching this on UA-cam.
Have Just watched and listened to the greatest entertainment ever. As a regular listender and watcher of the 234 shows I have listed, any other watcher may see at times that at least 4 musicians, violinist, trumpet, trombone a saxaphone player excel themselves by joinng in the vocalists performances. Most certainly proves how adaptable and versatile all his performers can be.
I can honestly say that whenever Tom Netherton wore a tuxedo on the show, he looked so incredibly handsome! I can remember the times when I used to watch the Lawrence Welk Show with my late grandmother on Saturday nights, and whenever Tom was on, my grandmother would call me to let me know that he was on, in case I wasn't with her right away. That being said, I can say that for me, considering he was my biggest crush, even though I was much younger at the time, (just a teenager), he would've definitely been my ideal type of guy!! In my heart, he will forever & always be my *dream prince!*
In 1980, The Lawrence Welk Show celebrated its 25th anniversary season on the air. The show had been on the air since July of 1955, and would continue to air until 1982. The Lawrence Welk Show was broadcast in black and white for its first 10 seasons, from 1955 to 1965. Starting with Season 11, the show was broadcast in color. Beginning in Season 11 (1965-1966), The Lawrence Welk Show, began broadcasting in color, and stayed until the end of the show's run in 1982.👍
10.30. Jack can play the xylophone and do tap as well. Amazing talent. And he makes it look easy. These talented musicians on the show are to be greatly respected
I think this show came on Sunday’s. There was 8 of us kids and I was the youngest. Mom would be in the kitchen cooking. She was such a quiet peaceful woman. Loved by everyone. Well us kids hated this show. So we wait just as good, thinking she wasn’t paying attention. And my older siblings made me to be the one to turn the channel. We be all good in what we all wanted to see. All of a sudden you’d here from the kitchen “y’all not slick, you better turn it back”. Well... as the story goes. When they finally got the black guy on the show. We was now accepting to watch. But, I became to really love the show anyways with or without him. I loved the beautiful gowns and even the singing to be quite honest. Moms gone on to glory now. What I wouldn’t give to have her and Lawrence welk back. Just ONE MORE TIME😥 RIP MOM AND MR WELK.
Big Band, Jazz, Folk, Cpuntry, Rock & Roll,....A tap dancing marimba player, Lawrence Welk tied it all together and polished it. If he were around today I bet he could even make rap sound good... well maybe not
@Izuku Skywalker89 But he sat up in the control room or otherwise disappeared. Maybe the network told him he had to have at least one prominently displayed Jew on the show?
They all look like they really enjoy what they are doing. And look at the audience dancing and wearing good clothes. . What happened since then ? All gone to hell.

My dad was too young for this. He was born in 1913. This show was for WW1 vets and others born before WW1. As a young child in the '60s, I found it corny to the point of being surreal. I am less prejudiced now. Polkas don't freak me out any more.

My grandparents, when I would go over to visit on weekends.

It was the only show I was allowed. Everything else on was "trash", according to her!
