    Wauw!!! Love it how you also film when it’s getting rough, your thoughts, descicions and frustrations. You’re sailing one of the most difficult area’s to navigate, don’t forget ….

    Quite spontanius jump on the boom there. Sailing alone some harness would be good when leaving deck up.
    Nice video.

      Thanks! When it gets really rough I definitely put a harness on

    Awesome video! Alderney Race has a reputation. Slack water is your friend :) Thank you for sharing. Subscribed.

    Great passage footage. Never arrive like you did on a rock strewn, macro tidal coast, at night. You need luck. If your plotters went down, for any reason, you are in trouble.

    • @juliusjordens
      @juliusjordens  23 години тому

      Thanks! Yes totally agree! If my plotter failed or something else didn’t feel right I would have sailed away from the island and sailed through the night to another destination

    Great video, perhaps a little over-canvassed.
    Judging by how she behaves, she’s a long keeler?

      Thanks! Correct on both points. I missed the chance to put a reef before the cape and then the swell was so wild I preferred to hold on and wait till it’s over

      Nice! Yes very safe to anchor with all the sand but not exactly comfortable while I was there, a lot of swell

      @@juliusjordens yeah, especially as you have your day job too. this was a nice one mate, a proper good reminder for me not to go out in wind over tide around capes!

      @@WildlingSailingthanks mate! Yes I don’t recommend it. Best thing you can do is stay on the Dutch lakes 😅

    The idea is to go through the Alderney Race at slack tide, preferably with neap tides. And, not so close to Cap de la Hague! Stick to the middle of the channel between the cape and Alderney. 🙂

      I needed this advice before the trip! I was wondering why no one else was out there 😅

  • @laurencevanhelsuwe3052

    That trip needed a reef in your main, IMHO.

    • @juliusjordens
      @juliusjordens  2 дні тому

      Yes I think you’re right, especially when the wind picked up around the cape. I realised later in the summer I often sailed a bit overpowered 🙈

      @@juliusjordens I've heard it said that when conditions change and a reef feels needed, you are already too late. Especially when sailing solo.. Also when angle of heel is greater than 30 deg, you actually lose power (and comfort, which in turn impacts safety).

      @@laurencevanhelsuwe3052I’ve heard that saying before too! Will keep in mind next time
