It's strange how EWF are not recognized as the world's first Black supergroup that went multi-platinum & sold out stadiums. They were groundbreaking on so many levels.
What group then is recognized as the world's first Black supergroup? Thanks in advance!
: The ink spots enter the chat :
Yeah, WTF? Also the Ink Spots are badass
@@YoshidaSPECL They could've been a worldwide supergroup, but as they said, they didn't want to set the world on fire.
@@Operative85 😂 killed ittt!
I remember I had to stay after class and do math problems was in the 1st grade in 1977. My teacher had the radio going on quietly while she was grading papers. I had no idea it would make a nest in my memory banks for years! Later I was able to put the artist to the music in my head! I love those little moments of personal discovery! 🎶
I love your username
So you did remember
I'm an old person, so I have loved EW&F for many years. If you like September, I encourage you to check out all of their music. They were so talented and put out tons of great songs.
Hey, that's great.
But guess what ... I'm an old person, too, but I don't feel old inside.
The hard part is that getting new music isn’t done by getting new albums anymore.
I’m not quite old I don’t think, I’m only 29, but I am old enough to remember having to buy a CD to get new music to listen to so I could load it onto an iPod and listen to on shuffle like any normal person….and that last part is the start of how we got here. You shuffle the songs and then start skipping all the songs that aren’t “the best” or at least my favorites. Add in a nearly infinite library and a learning algorithm and you have Spotify.
@@good__enough They said we had to grow up they didn't say we had to grow old ;)
Also, them vinyl gatefold covers. Beautiful
I’m in my 30s, and went to my first EW&F concert with my dad when I was 22. It’s one of my most cherished memories with him, and will be so for the rest of my life. 10/10 will share with all young family members
The moment I realized I was like a Pavlov Dog the moment I read that title, and my brain auto-completed the entire rest of the song.
Man, I don’t know why the UA-cam algorithm has turned its back on you but please know that those of use still coming back each video so deeply appreciate your craft. Please never stop
Maybe it was the minute and a half build up to announcing that he was talking about September.
I just got recommend this video today by UA-cam.
Yeah. I rarely see updates pushed for this channel these days. It’s to the point where I’ve forgotten about it even though I’m subscribed.
maybe it's that narration styllllle.
Songrwiting at its peak... the badaya part in the chorus is simply an amazing hook
this is the only comment i see on here for some reason
It's just so perfect, it hits just right, I'm so glad they didn't change it for 'real lyrics'
I'm sure if you ask a bunch of different people they'll all have their own interpretations of the lyric too lol - for years my mother thought they were saying "party up" and she was shocked to find out that it was just a nonsense lyric
Releasing this on the 21st of September was actually genius. I love your videos and appreciate the work you put into them. Thank you.
genius??? thanks to comments like that the word genius no longer means anything!!
September is one of those songs that you can listen every single day and not get tired of it. One I discovered this masterpiece I really got interested into the band and realized that even if I didn't know it, their songs were all around me. They really deserve this day, the joy that this song gives me is enough to make my day
Here in the southern hemisphere, september the 21st is the day when winter's over and the spring begins. I live in a very very rainy city in southern Chile so the arrival of the spring is surely worth celebrating!
And it's the exact opposite up here on the northern part of the 🌎
My senior year of college, 2004, the Boston Red Sox were making their run in the world series and whenever they won a game, no matter how late in the night, the guys living across the hall would blast "September" to celebrate. I heard that song a lot, which was fine by me, however, my roommate hated it. I had heard that song plenty of times before as a kid on the radio or at weddings but having it attached to that world series run is what sticks out the most for me. When I hear it on the radio now it brings me back to my dorm room and makes me smile. That's what ba-du-da means to me.
And I thought the Red Sox would never win the series
I was already a huge EWF fan when "September" came out. The first time I heard the song was when the song came out. My older brother had driven home listening to the local R&B radio. He walked into the house and told me that a new EWF song was playing on the radio station. I was just able to catch the last stanza of the song. Even then it sounded as if the song had been implanted in my mind for a long time. It's no wonder to me that song has captured an eternal quality.
That intro had me in goosebumps. I'm so livid that on the 21st of September I was so busy I forgot to play Earth Wind and Fire
Earth wind and fire hold a special place in my heart. My mother and I used to listen to it when I was young. She passed in 2009 and every time I hear an EW&F song it reminds me of her. Rest in peace momma
Same here. My mom passed in 07. They’ll forever be my favorite band
I was born in 1989 and this is by far the most memorable song from my youth. I remember being in the back seat of my parents station wagon listening to this. Such a great song. I never get tired of hearing it.
Ramsey Lewis died recently. I mention this because Maurice White worked with him before forming Earth Wind and Fire. After EW&F began their journey, they offered Lewis two songs which were the foundation for the album Sun Goddess.
Man, this song randomly popped into my head today. Turns out it's the...
21st night of September
This is the song that begins the summoning of Mariah Carey. It's the first sign that "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is coming.
I am glad Polyphonic observes this meme like we do. My group calls today "EW&F Day"
Polyphonic loving CN's Over The Garden Wall and Earth Wind and Fire are my Jam. Cheers on the 21st night of September.
This song is so iconic and know all over the world, Japanese people sing it during karaoke.
I have a public playlist called "But it's September" with some mashups of September. Since I created it, I started to get the internet's obsession of it. Since then every year I earn for the moment September starts to start listening to the playlist.
Nobody gives the horns enough credit for making this song so big
When I heard Maurice White's voice on the video, I just had to pause it and go listen to the song before continuing. That's how good this song is.
I got my bachelor's degree last year on sepember 21, and I spent the whole day hearing this song in the back of my mind. I don't think that feeling is ever going away now, once this season hits, I''ll always remember.
Southern hemisphere perspective: it reminds me of a hot summer (despite summer only starting in December) night, by the beach side, having ice cream and playing arcades
The 21st of September is actually very significant for Filipinos as it’s the day Martial Law was proclaimed. What happened next was 14 long years of repression, poverty and corruption. What’s sad is that the wealth gotten from that period of history is now used to whitewash it into a golden age. If you ever hear good things about Martial Law in the Philippines, I implore you to read about it, especially in the book Conjugal Dictatorship and the website Martial Law Chronicles.
I love EWFs music. Their songs never fail to pick me up when I feel low.
I will never tire of learning about music that I already loved, only to come away appreciating a song all the more for knowing more about it. Great video as always and Happy September 21st! 🍂😁
I was not ready for you to reference "Over the garden wall", i love that!
I was a white kid who loved Zeppelin and the Guess Who and Neil Young, and to me, EWF was absolutely top-tier. Just an unbelievable band making immaculate records. They represented a level of musical achievement that felt completely out of reach. Pop radio had some pretty good music back then.
Only few people know they have a song named December which is almost exactly the same besides that word “September” replaced with “December”. Nice trick! I’m waiting for Octomber, Januamber, Februamber, Marchember, Aprimber, Mayember, Junember, Julember and Augustember versions of the song!
I can’t wait to tell people I was born in Octomber with a straight face 😂
My daughter was born September 21st last year. This was the first song she ever heard.
I remember first hearing this song as a kid in Elite Beat Agents. Such a great song, and a great game with an amazing tracklist.
My mother told me that at their age when this music came out they would dance. Now this is my music choice in my Locking dance piece ❤🥰
3 years ago, My friends open Let’s groove, it steal my heart. Although Maurice pass away, I want to visit their live concert. Fc from Thailand
A year ago we had this song play at my wedding. It's one of my favorite songs 😍
EWF is like a modern version of the ink spots, just saw EWF live and they are incredible even in 2022. The ink spots had a world wide super star in Bill kenny who often played in the biggest venues and was known by just about everyone who knew music in the 30s and 40s knew them. EWF was much of the same, international superstars and know by anyone who knew about music in the 70s and mid 80s. Funny enough Maurice has a very similar voice to bell kenny just less opera like. And finally both are the trail blazers for African American groups. See ya next September, ba dee ya!
My sister got married a few weeks ago and this was her first song. They met, got engaged and married in different September's. Excellent choice.
Iconic. My birthday is in September, and this song always makes me feel nostalgic.
Legitimately one of the grooviest songs of all time
Love this song, surprised I'm here this early for a polyphonic video - keep it up, man!
September was a favorite of my Nana's. It was between this, and some big band music that played whenever we went out driving.
She passed away last December, but this song is one of the many reasons i will always remember her. Thank you for making this video.
YAOOOO, He he, in 76 I turned 18, 3 years later I joined my first band playing... THIS, and Boogie Wonderland, and Fantasy, and... so, what can I say, I was there! Cheers.
Hey,, great tune man, thanks.
The 21st of September is my birthday. I just turned 38 this year and I love this song.
this guys vocal fry is WILD. It’s like Paris Hilton on testosterone
The 21st of September means the coming of spring where I live and also the Student's day. It's like a resurgence in life and happiness. This song will play in my head every 9/21 forever. Nailed it in the head with this video.
it's that time of the year
SUPER THANKS for this most appreciated gift! LOVE this song and this video did it justice. Have a great evening.
In Philippines though this song has a dark connotation, with Sept. 21 being the declaration of Martial Law back in the 70s. Although like how it was viewed in the west, the song also became a meme because of it.
And of course, you couldn't have hit the nail on the head better than by releasing the video on the exact date the song mentions.
All the claps to you.
Happy 21st to you too! This song happens to be my Synchronicity of the Week, there have been several unrelated collisions of this song into itself in my life and brain this past week, and I wasn't even thinking of the date, and then here we are, thanks!
Ive gone to so many concerts, and I have no idea where to begin deciding my favorite, but without a doubt EWF was by far the funnest. Even now, the remaining members know how to groove like no other
My favourite 70s band! Thank you! Please can you consider doing Sly and the Family Stone?
I love the way way he talks
"machinessss"
"albumsss"
I was born in 1997 and raised by two pittsburghets born in 1965, I grew up on this song and I wouldn't change anything for the world
This was posted on the day before my 15th birthday
I love this song, and I hope that everyone here enjoys this song as much as I do :)
Now I wanna watch Over the Garden Wall
I admire the concept of a video talking about how a catchy and iconic a song is with a title that immediately gets the song stuck in your head.
My favorite EWF song is Fantasy. I'm also a huge fan of the Black Box remake of Fantasy btw. EWF was such an iconic and groundbreaking group and all these decades later, their music still sounds new and fresh everytime I listen to it.
Earth, Wind, and Fire / Parliament / Bootsy Collins / and the Commodores - back in the 70s, black funk bands had a fascination with UFOs and The Groove.
That Over the Garden Wall joke made me laugh out loud on an otherwise quite bus well done sir.
I'm glad to finally learn that ba-dee-ya isn't actually a lyric that I haven't been able to understand for my whole life. It isn't a real word.
Everytime I come across someone celebrating the meme from this song, I'm just happy people are accidently celebrating my county's independence(Belize).
been watching your channel for a long time and your videos have been a constant in my life through thick and thin, thanks homie
Not sure if it has any connection or not, but in Urdu, the word Bandeya means one of who is close to god. As someone who beleives the gods are found in humanity and it’s connection to the natural world, it’s quite fitting I think
Polyphonic out here releasing another banger. Great videos continue, keep up the great work.
For the last 10 years it's my first post on my Facebook September 1st, and let the groove go forth
I can't unhear how you emphasize the last syllable in every sentennnnnce.
I just wanna say it’s videos like these that made me want to go out and pursue an education in music. Thank you for everything you do
I'm waiting for his new one but it aint here yet
He's been pretty clear everywhere that last years was the last time we was making one. I'd be surprised and impressed if that was all a bluff
It's not coming back.
Same
last year was his final one :(
Still aint here...
one of the greatest songs in the history of music, being so serious
Hey Polyphonic. I really love your videos because you have such a deep sense of appreciation to the music and its history. Your storytelling is on point and very informative. However, I do miss some more focus on the actual music of the songs (composition, beat, melody etc.), like you had in your older videos. The history and lyrics is for sure interesting but I mainly watch your videos for the musical analysis. Keep up the good work my man!
One of my best friends actually lives down the street from the former drummer for EWAF and I got a chance to meet him, gonna show him this later
I couldn't forget if I tried, it's my nephew's birthday. Before 9/21/1992 it was just a feel-good song about the first day of fall, now a reminder of my nephew.
I'm currently playing this as a stand tune for my marching band. The groove is so fun to play, and it just makes you happy.
I was in a English class when I first heard this song my friend played it and I still remember his dancing. He had is basically corogrphed but it was all on the whim. It’s a song that makes you move
Every year I wake up to the 21st of September with this absolut gem of a song which is in my opinion the best song ever. Truly genius songwriting, without a doubt❤
This was the first time my mom's birthday on the 21st passed without her here to celebrate with us. Nevertheless, we remember ❤️
Tis such a joyous song that never fails to put me in a good mood
Great video, man!!! In Argentina, spring blossoms in September, so this song hits harder 🌺
This is our marching bands opener this year, pretty cool
The 21st of September is the day after my birthday! I've always loved this song. I miss Maurice White....
damn. I was born on the 21st and it's always been my theme to listen to its remixes as a way to celebrate
I’ve always loved this song and today (9/21) happens to be my birthday, too. 😊
I discovered the song through TC Moses' excellent cover featured in Elite Beat Agent on the Nintendo DS. I'm willing to bet I wasn't the only one, either. I'd love to see that version get a high-quality release someday.
My dad turned me on to EW&F. Love their sound. Spirit and Be Ever Wonderful are some of my favorites of all time.
I realized the first lyric of the song was about my birthday when I was a Freshman in high school and I got very annoying with how much I told people about it. It's still one of my favorite songs and has become an annual tradition to wake up to it on every subsequent birthday.
Don't know how I happened up on this video this morning but I loved it. Thanks
This goes great with the discussion on Dead Wax, to combine for a lot of fun insight. Good work!
I was not expecting you to shout out Over The Garden Wall! Such a brilliant show! I'd love an analysis of the music in some way, because it's just so good.
The song really starts as soon as you read the title.
It wouldn’t be a fair summary of “September” if Demi wasn’t included. I’m still devastated that 2021 was the last year he’s doing it but what a note to go out on.
William Maranci did a mashup with MGMT’s Kids and it literally has the potential to bring about World peace
Thanks for reminding me it’s the 21st! Gotta do my annual listen.
YES I AM SO GLAD YOU SHOUTED OUT DEMI ADIJUYIGBE'S SEPTEMBER VIDEOS HE DESERVES THE RECOGNITION
Terrific song. Timeless.
I’ll admit it: I got to know this song from the Ozzy mashup by DJ Cummerbund. But you know what? It works because September is an even better song than Crazy Train!
I spent all 21st ecstatically grabbing people at work with panic on my face asking "DO YOU REMEMBER?!"
the greatest band of all time... period!!!
I saw them live this year and I gotta tell you they still have it I love EW&F
