This worked perfect. I also changed out the 72 pin connector, which was real easy to do. I used the eraser, and after did the qtip and rubbing alcohol.
I use an ink eraser to clean the pins, then I wipe away the eraser dust and then wipe it with a q-tip soaked in 91% isopropyl alcohol and wipe it dry with a microfiber towel. Works wonderfully.
Use a white art eraser instead of a pink one. Its not abrasive and wont leave any residue. Once all of the dirt is gone, wipe away the eraser shavings with a soft bristle tooth brush or canned air and use 91% isopropyl alcohol or higher to wipe the board clean with a Qtip to dry then youre all set.
Ok so why not a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol? That's what I used way back when and it was very effective. Also ideally you want to go in line with the contacts not across them if at all possible.
Brasso will peel off a little bit of the contact to achieve its effect, so it's more of a last resort type of deal. You can consider using it if you know that isopropyl won't clean it and that the game is at fault and not the console
Yes, I had a friend in the 80’s who used to dip the end of his cartridges in a bowl 🥣 of rubbing alcohol and it worked. I never did that with any of my games. 😅

Not everyone has rubbing alcohol (such as myself) so the eraser is a pretty good option for more people
A bit rough with game … ouch 😣 1:45
Do you have to take the game apart to do this?
What kind of cleaning solution would you suggest for NES and snes consoles?
Dawn does more so it's not a chore
You can just use 91% isopropyl alcohol and Qtips or cotton swobs and a toothbrush to scrub the cartridge it gets them super clean.

Thanks
Nice idea for the Gamebit tool
Can you use Brasso to clean it?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Never use Brasso.
Why weren’t you wearing static shock protectors?
The back of the cartridge clearly states do not clean with alcohol.

I think they said that because rubbing alcohol can affect the stickers on the outside.
I read that the reason for this was so nintendo could sell you their cleaning kits.
