Heroclix Tutorial: Objects - Part 1
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 лис 2024
- Objects can be an important of Heroclix strategy. Heavy, Light, Standard or Special, objects can be thrown, they can increase damage value in close combat, and heavy objects can also provide cover... But how many can you have on your force? Could you have 3 heavy special objects on your Force? Answers to these questions and more in part 1 of Heroclix Objects.

Your videos are clear, concise and make complicated rules sets easy to understand! Great job! Keep 'em coming!
Thank you very much; that's what I like to read! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Liked purely because I've played for years and never held an object in that slot that it seems it was meant for!
Isn't that neat? Doesn't work with special objects though. Maybe someone know a way?
Fat Loss: FTW! Same i never would of thought
Yeah! Exactly, that's what I thought! I was like... wwooooww that's what it was designed for!!! LOL XD
As always, a concise & clear video that makes great use of graphics!
Thank you very much. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Your videos are consistently clear and precise. Thank you so much for making these.
I love these tutorials! Ive been playing/judging for 15 years and The Tabletop Teacher is spectacular at relaying how the game, powers, and figures interact with each other.
Thank you so much; that's what I like to read! Working on Objects part 2 right now. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you. The way you showed the writing while explaining how it works help me out with my issue. My issue being which actions required tokens and how to figure it out. While this video had nothing to do with action tokens exlusively, the way you layed it out helped me nonetheless. So thank you. I will be subscribing.
I love when you place dialogues on the characters with jokes on them! "Refrigera-Thor"!!!! I'll be waiting for the Special Objects Tutorial! Very good job, sir! Thank you!
Thanks! That's quite the compliment coming from a true comedian! Thanks for watching and commenting, Francisco.
Keep 'em comin' and I'll keep on watchin'!!! Thanks.
I have two questions about objects:
1. Does using something like the invisible jet on it's terrain dial as part of your force count as one of your 3 starting objects?
2. Can objects be used with blades/claws/fangs?
1. Special terrain is not an object.
2. Yes. But it's pretty pointless. An object used in close combat modifies a character's damage value. When using BCF the damage value isn't used at all. So the modifier from the object would be wasted.
Johan Karlsson it wouldn't add to the new b/c/f damage ?
Johan Karlsson because it replaces that damage value , so wouldn't you just replace your old value then add the items modifier ?
This video had answered a question I had all day. Now I know I can use multiple special objects.
Well, you can have up to 3 special objects on your Force, but you can *use* even more... Your opponent's equipment-objects, for instance, are often "fair game"; a lot of them have the keyphrase EQUIP, ANY. If it's on the map, you could equip it.
I think the new object rules are the best improvement in the 2017 rulebook (even though I lost my technique of placing an object on top of a ladder to slow my opponent's move onto a roof). I especially dig being able to choose not to use the object in a close attack.
One thing I like to do now is give a Pen/Psy or RCE attacker an object. Then, if they get based, they can at least do a +1 damage in a close attack.
That's a very interesting strategy (giving range attackers a light object)... Makes basing them a little more dangerous. Thanks for watching and sharing that!
I hate that tactic of blocking off your opponent and glad it is no longer valid.
Great vid! Really like how you explain everything in a paced manner.
Thank you very much! That's the kind of compliment I love to read. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Excellent video. Keep them coming. You make it so even I can understand.
Thank you very much! The plan is to make more ;o).
Great video. Great use of that slot to hold the object tokens, never seen that before but it looks cool and helps you remember who's holding. Out of interest what software do you use for your captions etc. The videos are really clear.
Thank you very much. The idea of placing objects came from a fellow player at my regular venue. In my opinion, it is the clearest, most visible way of showing who's holding what. Of course, it doesn't work for players who bring object tokens that are identical to action tokens... I always get confused with those.
For the videos, that you see is mostly a combination of PowerPoint and Adobe Premier Elements.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Refrigera-Thor
hahaha good one xD
Hehe... Thanks :o).
What are the rules regarding how close/far objects can be placed from your starting area or general placement on the map? Thank you!
Standard objects: "The first player then places all objects on their starting
force. These objects must be placed in squares outside of any starting area. The second player then does the same." (p. 4)
Special objects: "When placing objects at the start
of the game, special objects must be placed 5 or more squares away from any player’s starting area." (p.35)
I really like how we can run any combination of heavy and light objects now. 3 heavys for stealthy or super strength teams. 3 lights for characters that need that extra +1 damage. Lots of options.
Has Wizkids stopped making immobile (blue) objects? Thinking of the Thor set, all the hammers are heavy/lights, right?
While Immobile keyphrase is defined on the 2017 PAC - which is not the case for ultra-heavy and ultra-light objects - I think the only Immobile Modern Age Object left is the Symbiote (SFOSM-s100). Relics, and I think that's what Johan was referring to, are now in the "Past Rules" Category. The fact that the "Immobile" keyphrase is on the new PAC leads me to believe there might be new ones at some point. The concept of an immobile object still makes sense in the game, but for different game elements perhaps, IMHO.
These videos are so helpful!
I'm new to heroclix only have the blackest night starter and this video helps a lot #SUBSCRIBED
Great video but got question: Can you attack with an object the same turn that you picked up the object?
Yup!
Makkari was used for the example of snatching an object from the field to bring it to your starting area. But it was said he couldn't drop it the same turn. Oddly, since Makkari starts with Hyper Sonic Speed he totally could if he stopped his movement as though he was going to make an attack, then drop it during the second half of his movement.
That would be cool, but - and I could be wrong on this - you cannot stop "as though" you were making an attack with Hypersonic Speed; you "have to" attack. With HSS, at then end of the first move instruction, you must attack (requires a legal target), then you move again; you cannot stop for other reasons. Mind you, this would work if there were a character you could attack at then end of the first move. It would go something like this: Give the character POWER to activate Hypersonic Speed, move (fewer squares than full speed value) and pick-up an object adjacent to or in any square of that path, attack, move back and drop the object.
"Hypersonic Speed is an action that contains two separate move instructions. You may pick up/put down an object per movement." (HCRulesTeam on the WizKids Forum, Sept. 01, 2017)
But, between those two move instructions, there must be an attack. It's certainly possible and opens up nice possibilities. Great idea! Thanks for sharing it and thanks for watching.
I didn't realize he couldn't stop and not make an attack, but if that's the case if I remember correctly he whizzed around some blocking terrain on his way to and from the object. :) So at least in that instance he would have some legal targets. And if he didn't a player could place a second sacrifice object. Alright alright, i'm getting in a narrower and narrow box here.
I just thought it was circumstantially an interesting choice, cause most any other figure couldn't do it.
Thanks for the vid!
Regrettably, objects and blocking terrain are not legal targets during Hypersonic Speed. The reason? An Object Destroy Action requires a CLOSE or RANGE action to be given to the character and Hypersonic Speed only allows an unpowered attack (no CLOSE or RANGE actions, just a simple, basic attack). Charge allows a CLOSE action at no cost at the end of the movement, Running Shot allows a RANGE action at no cost at the end of the movement, but Hypersonic Speed doesn't allow neither CLOSE nor RANGE actions; just an attack. So, the only way to have those two move instructions that would allow to pick-up and put down an object is really to make an attack and the only legal targets are opposing characters. It's still feasible, though ;o) !
Oh cool. I did not realize that. Thanks!
I haven't played the game yet so my thoughts may change over time, but the Objects just seem like tacted on nonsense to me.
Yay no more superman hyper with ultra ko'ing my figs!!! I do like the new rules, invincible looks like the power to have now.
Yeah, that was way too brutal. It's funny to see characters holding objects for a while on the map, now. I like it. In the recent games I've been playing, objects have just gained a lot more attention.
If you choose to throw an object in a range attack, do you lose that object and if so where would it land?
Best strategy with a heavy object i came up with would be, a character with stealth and super strength would be able to hide in or around said object and be able to pick it up and throw it.
Also quick side note the character could also hid in a heavy object while holding one.
Hm. Regrettably, that second strategy is not possible. Since the line of fire has to cross a square where a heavy object is for that line of fire to be hindered, I'm afraid that holding an object cannot provide cover in any way. Stealthy characters cannot hold a heavy object to "hide" behind it, nor does holding a heavy object provide a +1 modifier to defense for non-stealthy characters. When a character holds an object, that object is no longer on the map and no game effect related to that object being in a square or on the map can be active.
For that first strategy, don't forget that movement is necessary for picking up an object. So, a combo of Stealth, Super Strength and either Charge or Running Shot could allow that interesting strategy. Thanks for sharing it!
Quick questions... Since I can now have characters pick up light objects, let's say I have... 001 Raphael. Now, could I charge in and use his penetrating flurry.. but use the object in my FIRST flurry attack or is this a no go? Also... If I have 004 Leonardo equip the Web-Shooter special object, which gives him minimum 4 range and leap climb, can I use his charge in conjunction with the leap climb ability the web-shooters give me?
1. No. To use an object in attack you need to give the character an action specifically for that. An object attack cannot be activated by just an attack. It needs to be an *action*.
2.. Yes and no. The part of leap/climb that makes elevation not affect adjacency when making close attacks can be used with Charge. It can be used with any sort of close attack.
However the improved movement and the break away bonus require a MOVE action to activate and charge is a POWER action that just lets you move.
Can you use enhancement to make more damage throwing an object?
I know it doesn't follow tournament rules but in at home games I like making objects that are used to attack get dropped at a square adjacent to the target
Great video. In part two could you answer the question of having an equipped item and carried object at the same time? Is that possible? Thanks a million.
The answer is yes, you can. An equipped object is not a held object.
Johan's right. If you the carried object is an equipment-object and you decide to equip it, the first one becomes unequipped (see special object card for effect).
Please update these tutorials for the new rules changes please :)
When you cover special objects are you also going to go over the new equipment rules? There are a few particulars I'm interested in especially the unequip rules. Like since equipment follow the rules for special objects can you drop them like a regular object? Or are they stuck?
Unlike a held object an equipment cannot be just dropped. It is normally only unequipped when the equipped character is KO'd, replaced or equips something else.
Johan Karlosson speaks the truth!
I just realized I always assumed that if a character wanted to "unequip" itself, it would have to be given a POWER action to do so (since you need one to equip). If you wanted to unequip and drop an equipment-object in order for another character to pick it up, I would think that you could POWER to unequip and then drop as you move. I'll have to check on that.
I have a question, if you use TK, you cannot place an object in hindering terrain, right?
Great video, highly infomative. I have 2 questions for:
1) What is a good way to defeat Jakeem Thunder, because I can't seem to get a hit on him when my friend uses his against me?
2) Can you TK Anarky's bombs into an opposing players pieces?
Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks! Well, that first question's is pretty open... I'm sure many veteran players will have far better ideas than I will on that. Outwit is really useful against Jakeem. If you build a team of characters with the Outsiders team ability and JW016 Batman, you'll have lots of Outwit to really throw a wrench in Jakeem's strategy. It's one possibility... Other Pick-a-Power characters will be helpful as well, of course (Al Jhor Dan, Goblin King, Nico Minoru, etc.). A colossal retaliator with a strong attack (Dormammu, Surtur...) can sometimes catch Jakeem off guard, too.
Regrettably, you cannot use TK to move Anarky's bombs; those are special markers, not objects... They cannot be targeted by TK, no more than you could TK debris, barrier or water markers. TK only works on characters and objects, but it was a very innovative idea, though ;o)! What I like with Anarky is a character with Mind Control... That way, you can send them in the bombs' vicinity.
Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the advise, and I shall put it to good use.....little bummed about not being able to throw the bombs , that would have been a great surprise attack.
Can you still TK a figure holding an object? Thanks
I have a question. What happen with the blue objects like the flash runner or the symbiote from spiderman set
The Immobile keyphrase is still in the 2017 PAC, although the Symbiote is, to my knowledge, the last Modern Age Immobile Object. An immobile object or character can't be moved or placed and, if it's an object, it can't be picked up (or held, for that matter). Thanks for watching!
If a fig has flight and charge, can they begin a charge away from an opposing fig, and that opposing fig is standing on an object can my fig yank the object out from under them and hit them with it all in the same action?
Yes. unless that opposing fig has plasticity or a similar effect.
Yup... And it's so evil ;o).
"A character may pick up or put down an object in a square it occupies or a square occupied by another character.", p. 25 Core Rulebook.
Thanks for watching!
quick question can colossals pick up heavy objects without superstrength?
Nope.
Just to be clear do you have to roll for it to be a successful hit?
Thanks. Is being able to use three of the same object part of the new rules? I always thought you could only have one special object and only two light or two heavy and one of the other.
Also can you carry a character and hold an object? And can you carry a character holding an object?
Hi Matthew, yes, the new rules allow any combination of three objects, be they light, heavy or special. No restrictions. Also, the new rules now prevent carrying both an object and a character at the same time. Characters that can carry, can also not carry another character who is holding an object.
jemmerx Thank you, we haven't started playing with them over here yet
Those are the new object rules: "Your starting force may include up to three objects. They can be any mix of standard or special objects, and any mix of light or heavy objects.", HeroClix Core (2) Rules v.2017.03, p. 25
You cannot hold an object and carry a character, nor can you carry a character holding an object. On the PAC, it reads as: "To carry, neither character can be holding an object or pick one up."
The first opens up all sorts of new possibilities! The carry part is simply more logical IMHO.
The Tabletop Teacher I agree!
Do equipped objects held by Wielders (from the new Thor Set, at the beginning of game) count against your object total? I have been telling my players "no, they don't count". I figure it might be something to add to part 2.
Equipped objects are not held.
Objects that start the game equipped or held by a character does not count towards your object total and you do not pay for them unless an effect says so.
You can always trust Johan Karlosson; he know his Heroclix stuff! A special object would count towards your force if text on a card would say something like: "If *specific character* is on your Force, you can add *specific special object* to your Force at no cost." You see the difference? A character like Executioner 029a starts with the Bloodaxe equipped (no mention of Force or cost), but the World's Finest Weapon Drop (from the Fast Forces pack), can be added to your Force without paying it's cost if WFFF Batman is on your Force. The Weapon Drop can be added, while the Bloodaxe "comes with" Excutioner.
Thanks, guys! I figured this was the case but I always like getting a second opinion when I'm making rulings. It helps when my players are wondering about it.
Found it! This is an excerpt of the Comprehensive Rules:
OBJECTS ON YOUR FORCE: Objects that start the game equipped to, or held by, a character do not have their point values count towards your build total and do not count towards your object limit during force construction. (p.6)
So objects cant be part of charge, flurry and close actions in the old core book (2014) too, or it was posible?
In essence, the difference now is that using an object in an attack is a CLOSE action (CLOSE Object Action) which can't be done with regular attack (non ACTION). Flurry allows 2 close attacks, but not 2 CLOSE actions, which is what would be required to use an object.
Hogun is equipped with his mace. Is he able to pick up a light object in addition to the mace? Thanks
Yes. Equipped objects are not held. So nothing prevents him from picking up an object.
Thanks Johan; that is correct.
Hi table top great video, i have a question for you may make a close object action while charge or flurry?
You can with Charge, but not with Flurry because Flurry already is a CLOSE action (the object action is also a CLOSE action... can't do both at the same time).
@@TheTabletopTeacher so cant be combine flurry with blades/claws/fangs or blade/claws/fangs with exploit weakness right?
can you use quake with an object?
Quick comment/question, I thought the new rules allowed you to pick up an object even if you moved 0 squares. Charge while next to a character and pick up the object (I assume thats if you succeed in breaking away first though) is an available play correct?
Yes. A move of 0 squares is still a move. Just note that if you can't move adjacent to an opposing character and then pick up an object if you have to stop when becoming adjacent.
Yes, moving 0 squares does allow to pick up an object (I illustrated by moving 2 squares in the video); the condition is "movement". A move of 0 squares is different than no move. As long as movement is happening - even a Charge including a movement of 0 squares, pending a successful break away - an object can be picked up. You could not simply attack that character with the object with a Basic CLOSE action unless you were holding the object before that action.
is it 5 squares away including the square where the equipment object is or is it not included?
Including the square, just like you would for counting range in a range attack.
I know you can't carry and hold an object, but can you tk someone holding an object?
Yes, you can. There's nothing in the wording of Telekinesis that doesn't allow it. The character being placed by TK must be a single-base one, but it could very well be holding an object. Thanks for watching!
If my character holding an object is ko'd,will the item drop or will it leave as well?
The object is dropped in the square the character was before being KO'd. An object is not KO'd when the holder or wielder is KO'd unless it's a special object and its card says to knock out the object when it is dropped. Thanks for watching!
What is that Thor figure? It looks like the Avengers Assemble super rare, but it looks like it has a common WizKids symbol and is less points. Plus, the AA Thor doesn't have super strength.
That's the Sidekick Night Marvel Avengers Quick-Start Kit version of Thor. More on him, as well as Captain America and Iron Man, in this video: ua-cam.com/video/sn0ZeFlCXoU/v-deo.html Thanks for watching.
3:32 Refrigera-Thor LOL
Tk for moving objects closer or away?
Yes. You can use Telekinesis to move an object or attack with it. And under the new rules you do not need that triangle of lines of fire. Instead you choose an object within range & line of fire (minimum range 6) Then you can either make a Range Object Action with that object or place it anywhere on the map within range and line of fire. Again with a minimum range of 6.
You can always trust Johan Karlosson; he know his Heroclix stuff. For more on that topic, please view the Key Changes to the PAC video on this channel and the upcoming Telekinesis video (sometime next week).
@@TheTabletopTeacher can you place object in hindering terrain?
thanks 💓
Ditto!
Refrigera-Thor XD
Clever.
Any Hulk clix + Refrigerator token= Dented walls
So you basically can only use an object once per game?
Well, that would only be true for objects that you use in an object attack: succeed or fail, the object is destroyed. Special Objects (see part 2) like equipment-objects are not destroyed when used and some even remain on the map when the character wielding it is KO’d. But, in essence, you are right about standard objects used in attacks.
The Tabletop Teacher ah thanks
I thought it was 1 object for every 100 points of the point total, correct? You said 3 total.
Yup, 3 total. "Your starting force may include up to three objects. They can be any mix of standard or special objects, and any mix of light or heavy objects.", p.25 of the 2017 Core Rulebook . There's no relationship between the number of objects and the Build Total. You are free!
The Tabletop Teacher ah, good to know. Thank you!
Es español todo tambien por favor
I detest people who sit on objects using the Batman team ability, especially turn 1&2
Yeah... Having a Stealth-buster on a team ready for those is often a good idea. ;o).
refrigerathor.....
Hehe... Guilty as charged ;o).
he must encounter a lot of frost giants :P
