How Voice Actor Frank Welker Created Voice Of Scooby-Doo’s Fred, Garfield & More | PeopleTV
/ people
He will have been voicing Fred in Scooby for 50 years (49 this year) since September 13th of 1969, that is one heck of a legacy.
Jonathan Seitz what surprised me is that he did a lot of the parody versions of Fred also. I counted three times he didn't voice Fred which were in a pup named Scooby Doo, Robot Chicken and Mad (CN version)
Will N another thing I forgot to mention is that Frank also voiced Scooby in the CN live action Scooby Doo origins movie which I thought was pretty neat. By the way I do know that Frank is the current voice of Scooby in the cartoons also.
fucking legends man
@@hypershadix1 And on MAD it was just one segment.
Jonathan Seitz yeah the Downton Abby spoof
Mad props to Frank Welker, this guy is a living legend.
What a lovely, wholesome man he is. Hard to believe the voice of our favourite villains were voiced by someone so kind.
His normal voice is almost exactly like Fred.
Yeah i hear it
No it's not, at all.
@@Scooby_Doobie_Doo he even says it himself that it's his normal voice lol
@@chrismichaelis7259 Nope.
Yeah it's him after 5 cups of coffee
Honestly, the dreaded day we lose Frank, I'm not sure what's going to happen to the SD franchise.
Matthew Lillard, who played Shaggy in the live-action films, took over from Casey Kasem as the voice of Shaggy.
Who knows? Maybe Zac Efron, who's voicing Fred in the upcoming 3D computer-animated film, will take over from Welker.
The film looks promising. My only problem with it is that Welker will be the only cast member from the franchise to be in it, namely as Scooby.
Matthew Lillard and Grey Griffin, the longtime voices of Shaggy and Daphne, respectively, claimed that they had not been contacted about the decision to recast their roles. Efron's casting as Fred also marks the first time the character will not be voiced by Welker, not counting the times the character was a child or portrayed in live-action.
Oh dear lord, imagine the voices for Megatron and Soundwave! Damn hes such a great person... thats a nightmare of a day tbh-
I'll tell you what'll happen if Fred goes away: the entire Scooby Doo franchise is gonna be in so much trouble.
What's going to happen is: Warner Bros., in true corporate fashion, will replace him, dedicate an episode or movie to him and then move on with making more money. This is not a diss at Warner Bros. I have an exponentially better opinion of them than I have of Disney. But that's just how the corporate world works.
@@KKomalShashank, yeah. Try making Frank's millions of fans understand that.
They don't call Frank Walker the King for nothing.
Jonny Boy He's the greatest voice actor ever! I wish I could be as successful as him and keep a low profile.
Welker.
1:36 Holy balls. it still sounds good.
He still does Megatron you know.
@@CalicoJackal I know, but the new cadence is different. Less cheesy
@@Leidon00 He goes back to cheesy Megatron when the situation calls for it, like in the game Transformers Devastation.
He's the King of Cartoon Voice Acting
👑
And of voicing fred jones
Voice God is more like it
And mark hamil
Uh hello? What about Mel Blanc? He's been voice acting since the 30s.
@@marcustrice3246 Blanc and Welker are both Kings of Cartoon Voice Acting
This man has so much talent as a voice actor he doesn't get enough credit for all the voice animes he's done the guy is a genius and he is the king of voice acting what an extraordinary voice actor thank you Frank Welker for many wonderful childhood memories
Frank Welker should be globally praised for what he does! Hopefully, one day, the world will know who he is!
"I AM MEGATRON, LEADER OF THE DECEPTICONS"- the legendary Frank Welker!!!
He also voice soundwave
@@christopherho9258 he voiced wheelie and rumble too lol
Fun fact: Frank Welker voiced THAT cat sound when anything is thrown offscreen.
really?!
@Amber The Fangirl
Yeah
The greatest living voice actor!
easy there.
What about Kevin Conroy?
Along with Rob Paulsen
Frank is more varied
One of the greatest living voice actors.

A True National Treasure
I love him
@@caxzrockz same! Frank Welker is amazing!
Just to note: Lorenzo Music originated the voice of Garfield, but Frank took over when he died.
I miss lorenzo
Absurd Boy I do too, but he and Welker were both leads on "Real Ghostbusters".
@@CROSSTATTRay & Peter
Is it me or does his normal modern voice sound like Mark Hamill's modern voice? 😅😅 Love this guy either way!!
I love both either way! ^.^
Yes!
Garfield, Scooby-Doo, Fred and George. The list goes on and on for this guy.
He voiced Garfield too?! :O :D
Don’t forget megs
@@indominusreags2278 Meg Griffin? No you’re thinking of someone else.
@@Mrcharles. megs? Megatron lol, leader of the decepticons?
Jeremiah Surd was another underrated gem of his
I was really lucky to have met him in Dallas Fan Expo in May of 2019 along with Peter Cullen!
It's crazy how when you become an adult and realize that these voice actors literally shaped your childhood. We all had our favorite characters as kids, but never really gave any thought to the VA. Voice actors are the true "unsung heroes".
if there was a Mount Rushmore for the greatest voices of all-time, Frank Welker and Mel Blanc would be up there no question about it, the next 2 is up for debate, I feel June Foray should be included as well.
initiatorhater0688 Paul Frees maybe?
I'd give Foray the third spot followed by Either Tara Strong or Rob Paulsen
Troy baker, Nolan north, laura bailey
Definitely David Hayter. The man is iconic as Snake but has also done tons of other roles you couldn’t tell it was him
I think there should be two Mount Rushmore of voice actors. The Classic Era (Mel Blanc, Daws Butler, Don Messick, Paul Frees, and June Foray) and Modern Era (Frank Welker, Jim Cummings, Tress MacNeille, Corey Burton, and Rob Paulsen). Yes, I know that Frank could easily be placed in the Classic era, too, given how long he's been in the business but if I were to put him there I'd have to remove one of the pioneers from the my Classic Mount Rushmore...but, of course, I could easily have a sixth face on Classic Mount Rushmore...but Frank is still voicing characters in contemporary series and so I put him in the Modern category.
The pupil of Mel Blanc
Funny how he starred in some shows with him. He played a young Mr Spacely in one Jetsons episode
In addition to Frank's legendary vocal contributions to the Scooby Doo franchise I love the voices he did on the "Super Friends". He voiced Marvin and the Wonder Dog in the first season of that series in addition to other minor characters. Later on he was the voice of several villains: Toyman, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Darkseid, Kalibak, and a villain exclusive to the series, Doll Man.
Love Frank Welker, the actor for doing animal and growling sounds and cartoon talent voice since Scooby Doo from 1969 through Today. Great talent actor.
I've been watching Scooby-Doo since I was 3, and I still love it, because it's so entertaining and funny.
Happy 50th Anniversary Scooby great job Frank voicing Fred
Happy 78th birthday Frank Welker 🥳
Fred's his real voice! Awesome!!
You know I never realized how similar Garfield and Fred sound until now.
I find it sad that Frank Welker is the only original cast member of Scooby doo who’s still working on the franchise.
❤ Frank. Don't ever leave us.
A voice that spans literal generations.
Why did they choose Zac Efron for the voice of Fred in SCOOB!
Frank Welker, in my opinion is the only voice of Fred.
Marketing
They have to start casting others too they can't go with frank always
Money
@@hsd287 Um yes they can. He's been voicing Fred this whole time (minus the Puppy Days show for obvious reasons since Fred was a little kid), and he's still voicing Fred in the current show "Guess Who" and the direct-to-video movies. Frankly, he's going to be voicing Fred until he dies, so there's no reason why they couldn't cast him in the Scoob movie along with the other cast members that's been voicing the characters for ages that are still doing so other than the makers just wanted to be stupid. They bring him back as Scooby though? That makes no sense.
Idkw. I like Zac Efron but he’s not fit to voice Fred. And I agree. Frank Walker is the only voice for Fred. (Well, teenage boy friend and not the little boy Fred from A Pup Named Scooby Doo)
Let's head for the Malt Shop!
Jesus this guy is a treasure. When his time comes the community won’t be able to handle it.
Megatron will always be my favorite voice he did.
Great guy with a great voice.
I pray and hope I get a chance to meet him someday, Frank Welker making a convention appearance is no longer out of the question now or just no longer impossible, although it is still difficult to persuade him or convince him to attend a convention because I hear his appearance fees are very high but it mainly took the influence of Peter Cullen to get him to start coming out to meet the fans or just make convention appearances because for many years he was known to be very private and reserved or quite reclusive
I was lucky enough to meet Frank this year (2024) at Megacon in Orlando FL. He was such fun to talk with and he answered my question about appearing as a tourist in "The Golden Child" as well as voicing "The Demon". He also signed a glove box lid for a 66 Chevy G-10 Sportvan that I'm restoring into "The Mystery Machine. He truly is a G.O.A.T !!! "Greatest Of All Time. voice actor. Thanks for posting.
@@bustyrandit I got to meet him in Vegas in 2019 and that's the only time I've met him
I'LL GET YOU NEXT TIME GADGET!!!
gotta love frank....I always laugh when he says 'treasure' because he says 'tray-sure', so I knew he was from in or around colorado!...I'm an OG fan of scooby doo because I was 6 in 1969 and have been a fan since day one! god bless ya frank!
I wish I can go back on time when Frank is in high school and maybe meet Fred
Wow when he did megatron i thought he was talking into a voice changer but thats his voice. Hes just an icon
He does kind of sound like Garfield.
Holy crap, his Smokey the Bear voice sounds almost like Optimus Prime.
Fun fact, Frank Welker played Darkseid in superfriends and darkseid was a horny character wanting to marry Wonder Woman throughout his appearances in the show.
O_O that’s not the Darkseid we know.
Happy Birthday, Frank! 🎉
Did you grow up in the 1970s and 1980s? This man is the voice of our childhoods
He's a legend!
I'm so happy to hear that hes still doing scooby and Fred's voices
Frank is the reason why G1 Megatron is my favorite Transformers villain.
Frank is the undeniable king of voice actors!
Thanks for your beautiful committe
That's for sure! Frankie, Frankie, who? Where are you? You need to do those voices!
@@CROSSTATT how are you doing today
Frank Welker was my youth and he resumed to do roles of animals
Happy Birthday Frank Welker the legendary voice of Fred Jones Megatron abu Scooby-Doo plus more
Damn living legend 👏🏽.
I just hear Garfield the whole time.
He also did the voice of Bo Sheep, Booker, and Sheldon on Garfield and Friends. I heard him once as Garfield, after Lorenzo Music died, and I found Frank sounded quite a lot like Lorenzo. In the Garfield and Friends episode "The Bo Show", Bo dresses himself up as Garfield, and he sounds just like him. Keep up the good work, Frank.
Don't forget, he also voiced Ray Stantz and Slimer in The Real Ghostbusters.
I Love Frank Welkers Voice Roles as Scooby Doo, Fred Jones, Megatron, Curious George, Soundwave in Transformers, Garfield, Nibbler In Futurama, Jabberjaw in Speed Buggy, Sneezly Seal, Mushmouse Azrael in The Smurfs, and Also in Movies Like How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Godzilla, and 101 Dalmatians.
Don’t forget Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget and Abu from Aladdin. ^_^
Ray Stantz and Slimer from the Real Ghostbusters too!
he also voiced Iceman/Bobby Drake and Flash Thompson in the 80s "Spider Man and His Amazing Friends"
Frank Welker is such an amazing voice actor, and some of my favorite characters he has played are Garfield, Fred Jones, and Scooby Doo!!!
This man is this generations Mel Blanc.
Jim Cummings pointed out in the animation voice-over industry that Mel Blanc was their Sinatra and Frank is the Beatles, when explaining the progression of each era of animation voice-overs!!!
1:05 its today folks!
He, and Mark Hammill are the last of the truly great voice actors, since Mel Blanc, who do a real range of voices that you can't tell are all done by the same actor. Whereas nowadays, voice actors just do their own voice for every role, and it's usually just a celebrity actor. Like how every role Patrick Warburton plays is totally obvious. Or in the Toy Story movies, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are just Tom Hanks and Tim Allen as toys.
They’re some of the last truly great voice actors. Others are Tom Kenny, Jim Cummings, Joe Alaskey, Billy West and some more.
I am 16 and i still watch scoobydoo my most fav
Zahid Butt I’m 25 and will still watch Scooby doo till I die lol

EDIT: Scooby Doo live action movies too.
Scooby Doo and Guess Who?
Be Cool, Scooby Doo
I'm 51 and will be watching Scooby Doo for the rest of my days while cruising in my Mystery Machine replica.
When this man dies, so does the scooby doo franchise
Warner Bros. had to been busy, enlisting potential successors to Frank, as he'll turn 77 in March!!!
You gotta love this guy for his dedication to this franchise. He’s almost always Fred Jones.
He's also Dr. Claw (Inspector Gadget) and The Cave of Wonders (Aladdin (the animated version, not the crappy live-action one). He works alongside Peter Cullen a lot. Cullen has a load of credits to his own name, including Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh and Optimus Prime.
You can also tell that both Peter Cullen and Frank Welker helped bring out the best in their Transformers co-stars, like both Rob Paulsen and Jim Cummings. Peter and Frank even worked alongside their proverbial predecessors, Don Messick and John Stephenson!!!
His regular voice to me sounds like Garfield is giving the interview
Don't forget, he also voiced Ray Stantz and Slimer in The Real Ghostbusters.
Omg sooo cute I can’t believe they change their voices new movie scoob

He voiced g1 megatron and AOE Galvatron
when he kind of studdered on the "i" toward the end of the video i REALLY really heard the "Fred" in his natural speaking voice. God i love these kinds of interviews. so cool
Who would've suspected that this guy would eventually become freaking MEGATRON!?
He’s coming to fan expo 2020 in Toronto I absolutely have to meet him
This man deserves all the hugs 🫂
I forgot he was the voice of Garfield.
Frank Welker definetly should've voicing Shaggy and Scrappy-Doo.
Wow! Fred just got a lot cooler in my book.
Using the voice actors on shows that don't quit it gave me entertainment
This man is a legend.
"You're right, Scoob. We're dealing with one sick son of a bitch."
-Fred Jones, Family Guy (voiced by Frank Welker)
This guy voiced my childhood 😂 I had no idea that he voiced Megatron. I literally dropped my phone out of surprise 😅
I hope to meet Welker someday. :D
Me too!
The man, the myth, the legend
He's Voiced Duck Hunt Since The Smash Bros Games
Well, it looks like Frank Welker is the only Scooby-Doo voice actor left who still voices Fred to this day as the other voice actors like for example Casey Kasem (former voice of Shaggy) passed away over the years.
Would Frank Welker do the voice of Vader by the time that James Earl Jones dies?
Following Mel Blanc, Paul Frees & Don Messick, Frank Welker ascends to the throne of the king of voice-actors- as we all know, it wouldn't be long before Jim Cummings would eventually follow Frank as the voice-over king!!!
Frank Welker, the modern day Mel Blanc...
0:55 "Hey, I can drive because I have a license!"
he just summed up fred's role in the entire franchise
All I heard was Fred.
Happy birthday frank welker
Hail, Lord Welker!
Remember that dog that made you all cry in Futurama? That was also him.
Seymour and Nibbler. And Guenter in Curious George mode.

@@tatashady, both ladies are mostly retired, today!!!
Another of the great voices of my youth thanks Frank.
The Greatest Voice Ac.. God Of All Time!
I watched the 1960 Scooby-Doo series, then I watched a Scooby-Doo original movie from 2019, and when I heard Fred talk, hey that voice sounds the same as the OG one. I searched on Google and holy nuts it's the same guy. Totally flabbergasted.
He’s worth 17 billion dollars? That’s probably more than the next 1000 voice actors combined.
It strikes me as funny how actors can do beloved heroes and depraved villains. Frank is all-American wholesome Fred Jones *and* Megatron. Mark Hamill is both ultimate hero Luke Skywalker *and* the most iconic version of The Joker (don't at me, you know it's true).
The correct word to describe their impressive talent is "range," but for me personally, it's "mental dissonance."
Fred: Stolen TRAY-SURES!!!
😂
I knew Frank was Smokey for a few years now. Just hard to believe Smokey the bear is also Megatron lol
