      I think it was important to show. People see these cute stories and are like "I want to be a vet!" Which is great. But they need to know that death is part of that reality too.

      I like her. Compassionate and caring for both owner and pet. I know she felt bad about having to put Max to sleep, but he was silently suffering, and had multiple organ failure. She did what needed to be done. Death is part of this job. I used to be a vet tech myself, and the death part got to me. (Jan Griffiths).

      They were great but what I'm wondering is whether pool therapy, ie, having Skittles make swimming movements in water wouldn't be another valuable tool in his rehabilitation?

    The one good thing you can take from this is that Max had packed his bags already. Many pets don't have the privilege to come to that day when they decide "I'm pretty tired. I think I'll go now."

      The very first dog i owned literally did this he left our home to go die somewhere and go to sleep forever thing is we searched for him and never found him we considered him to be dead and my father had the closest attachment he knew our dog did this intentionally and ran away so my father wouldnt see him in pain or had to bare putting him down due to old age he was around 13 years old it really devastated us because he was a smart dog but we never understood why he escaped on that night and now it made sense. He did use to sleep alot he did have major arthritis joint pain he was the most loyal companion i grew up with it was sad to experience that. The other dog we owned she had a brain tumour which hemraged and we took her to the vet and it was heart breaking to hear the news about our other dog suffering this we just noticed that lights made her walk off balance and that she went to go hide in dark places hardly ate/drank tail was droopy she was a timid dog by default but we never expected to hear that she had a brain tumour which ruptured and then yeah... we were forced to put her down i didnt have the stomach to go visit the vet to see her cos she was in immense pain i was like 15 at the time im currently 27 now but i just remember the vets telling us over the phone theres nothing we can do... we must put her down its so emotionally upsetting to experience your dog going through an emergency it really is

      @@chrissy93x Sadly, our family fur baby did the same. She was 17 yrs old when she left the yard and never came back and we never found her. In all her life, she had never left the yard before so we knew she left to die as she had become ill. Sad.

      Very true. My 14 year old pup stopped eating. Was just one day, but my partner and I had a conversation and decided that it was his time and we would take him to the vet to be put down in two days. The next morning I found that he had passed in his sleep. It was incredibly hard, but I think he knew that I was ready to let him go, so he felt okay letting go too.

      I can relate so much to that case, in November my dog of 13 years started to get really sick and swollen, his back half of his body got so swollen he couldn’t sleep or move too well, it seemed like his body was just shutting down and he was also having seizures, we took him to the vet and the unfortunate thing about it is due to COVID we couldn’t be there with him.

      Our cat was put down 9 months ago . She was a 17 plus.
      The last days before she passed away, she couldn't walk on her back legs properly. They were so week . They gave way.
      And she had lost a lot of weight.
      The last 2 years we were a permanent visitor at the vet. Blood, kidney, liver good results. But slowly loosing weight and as I said , her back legs, and she didn't eat a lot.
      Because of the weekend coming we phoned the vet.
      Patrick and I were prepared.
      But then all went so fast and she was gone .We both were holding her when she left us.
      Once we had come to terms with her loss, I wrote a letter to them and thanked them for the 10 years we stayed with them, but I also said, it all went too fast.
      After 9 months I still think about her leaving this world.
      ROO was cremated and she is with us. It's very comforting having her around us in a beautiful wooden urne. It helps us, that we had to say GOODBYE not in a way we wished it for her. May you R I P little ROO, we love you so much. ♥️♥️♥️🐈♥️♥️♥️

    My dog "Snow" was a mix of German Shepard and Golden Retriever, she just happened to be all white.. She was a big girl in her prime, and - oh so beautiful.. She took an aspirin each day on the advice of the Veterinarian, so she walked around great, but she loved to sleep upstairs with my daughter, so for a few years we carried her up to bed, and carried her down the stairs in the morning.. She was getting so old.. A friend told me I was being selfish keeping her alive, so I took her in to see her Dr., and he said "Oh my yes, she's very old! Is she dying? We all are from the day we're born. When she's "ready" she will let you know, and you're not being selfish, she's loved, cared for, not in pain"... She lasted almost another year, and she did let us know, she could not wee one day, she tried and tried, we knew her kidney's had just failed. She was 19 years old!! We took her in, and it hurt her to be lifted onto the table for the Dr., she lay down on the floor, and I laid down with her, he gave her a huge shot of valium, she went to sleep, then he came in and gave her whatever they use to put them to sleep... Oh the tears, our blessed girl was gone, but I look back now, and she literally was there for my daughter - all her life. The dog LOVED to pull the stroller on nightly walks, I kept a hand on the handle of course, but Snow pulled the stroller as though it were "her baby" inside.. She never once snapped at anyone, she played so much with my daughter, I would put the garden hose on the slipper slide in the back yard, with the little "baby swimmin pool" in the back yard, my daughter would climb up and slide down, with the hose - her own water slide!! Snow would climb the ladder and she'd take her turn at the slide too!! Can I be sad she is gone? No, she is deeply missed, but how many people are blessed with a rescue dog (she'd been terribly abused when we got her, you could see her finally relax when she realized we would NEVER EVER hit her, or swat her, we LOVED her!! I cannot be sad, we had 19 years, with a wonderful dog, what a huge gift to our lives she was...

      This happened to me we noticed our second dog behaviour was weird she was walking very slowly tail droopy down head was hung down she hardly ate or drank rushed her to the vet.... found out that she had a tumor in her head which ruptured... she was a kind and timid dog and i wouldnt have guessed/known that a tumour was inside her brain there was nothing we could do... the vet said the only thing we can do is put her to sleep shes in pain.. theres no chance of saving her they ran tests and everything i was legit so devastated by the news i couldnt go to the vet clinics cos if i had gone i didnt want to be crying infront of people or having a mental break down inside the clinic with other people seeing me come out with only her collar in my hands I was 15 at the time i told the vet and i had the phone on speaker so everyone could hear and i didnt want our last memory to be us going there and seeing her suffering in pain on a table the last memory i had of her was patting her head whilst she wasnt well honestly even typing this up brings tears thinking about this even though she died in 2010 it still hurts me that i could have done better for her made her rest easier..

      Something that is very important is that we have to have a vet that we can trust. I had a beautiful Golden Retriever named Ginger. And she had congenital heart disease as well as hip dysplasia and she was blind as well. She had lost her sight while she was still very active so she adjusted well and I felt her quality of life it was still good. When I mentioned my concern about her pain he said that it was minimal and wasn't causing her too much discomfort

    • @gwyna3432
      @gwyna3432 2 роки тому

      @@dixierae3442 should they have ANY pain? A vet once told me, “a week too early is better than a day too late”. We (inc me) are all inclined to hear what we want to hear, when it’s the last words from the vet.
      When is the right time to let them go? No one knows for definite. I only know I don’t want to be in pain and not be able to get my meds when I need them, not just when it’s tim to have them. Pets are totally reliant on us for their care.

    • @dixierae3442
      @dixierae3442 2 роки тому

      @@gwyna3432 Am I ever glad you responded. I'm not sure what happened but I never completed my comment. The whole story was that the vet had told me to allow her to die naturally. I agree with you 100% that an animal should feel no pain. I trusted this vet that he would not allow Ginger to go through any discomfort. The reality was dying from the heart disease that she had was extremely painful and when the end came the pain came immediately and the poor angel was fighting for air. I was not able to get ahold of a vet and ginger had to suffer in agony through the entire night. Finally in the morning I was able to find it that that would come to the house thank God but I will never forgive myself for trusting someone else in what should have been my decision and I now believe it is much better 2 say goodbye to our beloved pets a little bit early then to wait too long. If we are honest with ourselves we know when it's time for them to go. The fact that I even questioned the doctor was a sign that it was time. I was just too selfish to make the decision on my own.

    • @gwyna3432
      @gwyna3432 2 роки тому

      @@dixierae3442 I feel very sorry for you - obviously owners should be a part of the decision, but vets should realise that most owners need help to decide when the time is right. Prolonging the life of animal (dare I say, for profit?) should never happen. Vets need to be strong, and if necessary, stand up against the owners and tell them their pet is going to suffer. It’s not what most owners want.

    Dr Chris is the best. I dont think there would be another job in the world that he could possibly be any better at. He is always sticking his neck out in any way possible to help treat and diagnose from a piggy missing 3 hoofs to birds with extra super long beaks to orphaned roo's that wouldnt of been able to ever hop again due to a fracture in the back of its foot. Is so evident that he cares and comes up with his own contraptions to help the piggy walk again! Just one of many great little gadgets that he comes up with and the more you watch these shows the more you realize that to do this job you have to be able to think around the corner as there's not always a cure for whats wrong and thats when a vet who will think even further can often make the difference for the animals and those who love them!!
    Thank You Dr Chris ❤

    My mom had to put their dog to sleep in July. It was hard on all of us. She was my little buddy too. Even today, my mom still has the "what ifs." She thinks if she had just waited another few days she would have gotten better. She had a brain tumor and was to the point of not eating. She was already underweight because we had such a hard time getting her to eat before she stopped. The vet said she had no muscle mass left. It is a very difficult decision to have to make. I hope my dog's body makes that decision for me when that time comes.

      @lottasunshine1325 2 роки тому

      I agree to a point, except the owner in the case only euthanized her dog after a vet she trusted encouraged her to do so. Sometimes a person is suffering because of depression or just doesn't want to go through necessary treatment. It's sad that in the U.S. many times someone just doesn't have enough money for good health care. However, if a group of doctors agree that there's no hope, a person should be able to choose if he/she wants to die with dignity without a lot of suffering.

    sad first story of Max (RIP) But the second story - soooo AMAZING!!
    Great job to everyone involved with pairing the Mum & foal that were recently orphaned & obviously both in mourning. Horses are extremely smart & very aware & alert of their surroundings, it was very sad to see Brulee orphaned & soo sad at such a tender age. But, I am over the moon that they found a surrogate Mum and that they both opened up to each other soo quickly, great job to Dr. Chris. Hearing that suckle, I felt it, just as the owner did when she snuck off for a cry. :)
    I'm very glad they showed us the update, I was sooo happy tears of joy! I love horses. I grew up riding and taking care of a few, my Uncle ran a stable.
