Not sure if it's a good idea for a date to eat stuff that got burnt alive
I wish food was that inexpensive here in the states, not to mention the choice in variety, man that stuff looks so good!
I live in nyc and I agree with wishing food was cheaper but the variety of food I can get is much, much greater here
Are u willing to drop half of your salary? Taiwan comes with economical costs to maintain cheap prices in daily expenditure

Here in the UK we have a type of small sea snail called Winkles. They were very popular in the 50s and 60s when I was a child, but I haven't seen them for decades. We used to buy them by the pint measure. I can remember Sunday night supper - a plate of Winkles with a little saucer of malt vinegar and pepper, and sliced bread and butter on the side. We used to get the meat out of the shells with a sharp needle, then drop the meat into the vinegar and pepper. Delicious!!!
Could go to beach and pick some lol . Free food always tastes better
Me too, My Dad used to buy a pint from Tubby Isaac's on the way home from the pub.
You can still get them from most fish mongers in north east uk
@@JPOW94 You are so lucky! I would love a plate of winkles just for the memories. It's good to know they have no disappeared completely.

I have so much respect for all those ppl staying up and making these awesome meals all night long day in and day out
Not sure about right now but some night popular markets stay past midnight as long as there is a crowd while some breakfast shops open as early as 7 am (or earlier). Was really convenient for those traveling to Asia's Taiwan with a jetlag since there is always something opening for our stomach XD

My father had a job on a restau-bar so they have to be wide awake for 13 whole hours, they start at 5 pm till 6 am but my father's salary isn't even enough, but I'm glad that my parents has owned a plot so we lived a middle class life, anyway back to the story,my father quit his job because the salary is too small and the 2 main reason 1st is that the kitchen where my father is stationed is not cleaned, when I say not clean I mean the floor is so muddy and the wall is full of black things and the utensils are not well maintained and also the floor gets flooded by dirty water,2nd is that his colleagues are using illegal substances just to stay awake, welp the owner know about that but don't take actions(because it'll cost much) I hope a costumer go catch them and report it,my father don't want to report it because the owner is rich(and also Chinese),so I just hope they get punished. That's all I want to say because I hate keeping secrets to myself so I just use my ALT account to share this and accidentally I stumble upon this comment and remembered about that.
Night markets are usually 2 days out of the week usually weekends but different provinces have more and less!
Plus watching people cook is part of the fun! It adds an extra level of enjoyment to the food
Simple trick for non-Mandarin speaking tourists.....just go to the stand that has the longest lines and order what everyone else is having.
Taiwan has arguably some of the best food on the planet. The variety is amazing.
I love seeing how people eat so different from me in another countries. That's just beautiful.
@YUM TUM "...in another countries"
A number of years ago I visited Singapore on holiday I had food from a street vendor on Clark key it was just the best Asian food I had ever tasted In 2006 where I live a guy from Hong Kong opened an Asian fusion restaurant close to where I live. For the past 17 years I’ve been the best customer and I’ve become good friends with the owner / executive chef

Taiwan is the place to go for awesome street food.
There's a small old eatery near where I live which doesn't even have a sign, run by an old lady, serving that fried rice. I noticed it one day walking passed it and smelled the fried rice. It's a pleasure to discover this kind of food.

When you felt bad when the prawns got cooked alive but at the same time it’s not enough to make you vegan because sea food just tastes too good.
Thanks for posting this comment. It reminds me of a time, years ago, when I was in Boston with an animal rights friend. I really wanted a lobster, and my friend said I should be willing to kill it myself, as quickly and painlessly as possible. Unbelievably the restaurant people agreed, and I chopped into the lobster in the back room. Thus I learned that if I had to kill my own meat, even a lobster, I would be stuck as a vegetarian. A coworker ate the lobster and enjoyed it. I still eat meat, but recognize that I am an imposter carnivore.
Well if you want to eat fresh prawn
@@carolynandrews8474 Be thankful for those animals that give sustenance. Don't let their sacrifice go in vein, dip them in some butter first.
@@fhistleb ok. I will try. Especially with the butter!
ask a vegan why they do not treat plant and aminal life equally. Talk a bit to understand the rational. Conclude the conversation stating you think they are racially decimating against plants as all should be treated equally by tooth, lip and tongue.

I really appreciate that most of these vendors served their stuff in cardboard containers, instead of plastic... good job...
Cardboard is even healthier than plastic, because plastic can melt as a result of the hot food.
do you know? The dialysis rate in Taiwan is the highest in the world. People on this island play politics every day and do not recognize that they are Chinese, which leads to lack of morality. Their meats have a shelf life of more than 1 year, and they will add preservatives, expired oil, plasticizers, and ractopamine pork (from the United States).
So don't go to Taiwan to eat anything.
If you want to eat really good snacks, night markets, please go to mainland China, or after we unify Taiwan, we will correct them, after that you can go to Taiwan Province to eat.
@@altina2366 I don't think either country has the healthiest food... it's kinda like fast food here (Canada)... not healthy food. My sister lived in China for two years though. She went to Taiwan for surgery though, she said they have better surgeons...
