- A former TV journalist who announced she would challenge President Vladimir Putin in Russia's spring election has been barred from standing.
Independent politician Yekaterina Duntsova wanted to run on a platform to end the war with Ukraine.
But the electoral commission voted unanimously to reject her candidacy three days after her application, citing 100 "mistakes" on her form.
Ms Duntsova said she would appeal the decision at the Supreme Court.

Your comment seems to be more or less adequate compared to the biased bot comments under this video, so I will answer. It is not so much about being fair and unbiased but more about a marketing campaign for candidates trying to run for presidency currently. Why? It is simple. Putin is supported by a big majority currently and people are not willing to change the leader during the SMO/war (whatever you call it doesn't matter). Logically, all the people applying to be candidates know that they are nobodies and won't get any votes. As for this candidate specifically, her team has been implicated in violating the law of the Russian Federation by spreading misinformation about the Russian Army. We're not talking about politics here, we're talking about current law where you go in prison if you violate it like any country that has any form of judicial system. Now if we talk about politics, we are at war currently. If you take one second to look at the laws that are being applied towards people that are against war, for example in Ukraine, you will see that it is a hundred times stricter. So before jumping into conclusions like "Russia is a repressive State", think twice as most of the people living in Russia do not feel oppressed at all except those that view the government as an enemy and start massive campaigns against it. But then again, if you start a massive campaign against any government, I believe you understand that you're going to have issues of some sort in any case. Thus said, talking about "far and unbiased" elections is somewhat hypocritical as most believe there shouldn't be elections currently because of the times we live in (for example in Ukraine they decided that they won't be any election until the war is finished - isn't that repressive af? Who cares right. It's not Russia, it's not Putin). Bottom line is: you need to understand that your Anglo-Saxon logic doesn't apply in Eurasia. Unfortunately state media like BBC is full of lies and doesn't help to end the current conflict as most pro-western media is pushing towards the continuation of war.

Also, while candidate from "liberal-democratic party" (which is in fact conservative populist one) Slutsky (I laugh every time I hear his surname) is not very well known, but his party has great reputation among population and are guaranteed to take his own share of votes - they usually even more radical in their stance than Putin and there are a few people that think that Special Military Operation going not as fast and thorough as it can be.
Anyway, pretty much every spectre of political views represented in Russian elections and that system is leagues more democratic than whatever shithsow US has.
