On GoodReads, I am the #3 US book reviewer, and I receive a constant influx of people asking me to review their books for free. When I spend 100 hours per week, working on my content, connecting with my audience, reading, and someone just wants to swoop in and have me devote 20 hours+ of my time to their book for free, I take real issue with that. And I think you are on to something. I need to start coming back with, "I charge X to review a book."

That said, if y'all are buying books from a charity/thrift shop to never read or to destroy, please select the ones you know aren't super likely to be bought with intentions to read them. Since the dark academia aesthetic has become popular, I've had an increasingly difficult time finding good reads at my local shops. I sincerely hope the good books are being bought to be read, but I can't help but think there's a correlation between those buying books as props en masse and the lack of good reading material at charity shops.
