    Thanks for the shoutout. That method and apparatus is something Andy and I came up with through a lot of trial and error. This is a long-form video I made with a crappy camera that explains the entire edge process, as well as very detailed instructions on how to use this method. To skip straight to the sharpening section, go to 15:00. ua-cam.com/video/6FJPh533TK4/v-deo.html

    I have four of Russell’s knives. Of all knives I own, his come the sharpest. He knows what he’s doing.

      Russell is as humble as they come but make no mistake...he's a craftsman and a wealth of knowledge.

    Just got my first ESEE-4 Fixed Blade Knife, S35V Steel, Ambidextrous Sheath, Made in USA (Grey/Black).. .. Have a few Fallkniven’s , a Morseth hunter from the 1970’s , and Masakage Kumo kitchen knives … have always used stones .. since i was 12 or 13 .. and a Compressed Wool Block .. for taming the Burr .. woodworkers favorite … …
    The ESEE-4 is hands down the sharpest knife .. not from Japan i have ever gotten right out of the box .. dry shaving sharp ..had a few Victorinox .. maybe .. .. loving the videos

    Great group of guys. Haven't had the pleasure of meeting in person, but I've interacted online.
    Russell's my biggest influence as a maker, talented and generous.
    I'm off to find some cork!

    I made and used a 34 inch strop for a couple years and man alive, the extra length cuts time down quite a bit...so this deal here is awesome to see! Once ya get used to it...sharpening is a fun breeze!!💪😎👍

    I'd like to see them sharpen a CR 3.0 if the ever become available.

    North east Alabama here and a proud esse 4 owner. About to purchase a laser strike too! You guys are awesome! Btw the hunting club I was in growing up had the famous rock bridge on it which I and my friends went to often.

    Have you gents ever thought about working on a set of throwing knives? Looking for the next best brand. I've broken a flea market set and the ones that are tough like the Smith and Wesson sets are odd to say the least. I'd love to have a nice set that came in a good leather or kydex sheath instead of the 30$ sets that come in a nylon sheath.

      Throwing knives are not really in our wheel house. It's highly unlikely we would ever consider making a set.

    While I still like my Work Sharp Precision Adjust for my serious sharpening tasks, I definitely like this idea for stropping and blade maintenance

    Is the "riser" just made from 3/4" plywood or ripped down 1" material?

    I love this! I'm gonna make one the second I get home from my current trip!
    Where do you get the leather from? I heard about the cork, but the only leather I've found is expensive, or just super thin and cheap. Any recommendations?

      Needs to be 2” wide. You might try hobby lobby. This should last YEARS so don’t be afraid to do it right.

    Is there a reason esee knives do not have a sharp spine for use with fire rods?

    • @RandallsAdventureESEE
      @RandallsAdventureESEE  2 роки тому

      we have a number of models that DO have a 90* Spine. CR2.5, JG3, RB3, PR4, JG5, Libertariat.. Not everyone wants a sharp spine and we actually prefer to use Ferro rods with dedicated strikers simply bc it's safer and more controllable. In a pinch I would use my sharpened edge if I had to.

    I find convex edge grinds serve me the best. Gotta have belt flex

    • @RandallsAdventureESEE
      @RandallsAdventureESEE  2 роки тому

      yep, me too...the cork has just enough give to it to knock those shoulders off the bevel.

    I wish ESEE would turn their bow drill bearing block / flint striker into a belt buckle.

    • @RandallsAdventureESEE
      @RandallsAdventureESEE  2 роки тому

      not really in our wheelhouse here..

    • @Prepare2Survive
      @Prepare2Survive 2 роки тому +2

      @@RandallsAdventureESEE It shouldn't be very hard to modify the current design of your flint striker / bearing block so it could be used as a belt buckle. You wouldn't need to sell the actual belt. Just the belt buckle. I think you would be surprised in how popular something like that would be because it adds justification and ease in carrying it every day if it's a belt buckle as opposed to just something that goes into a primitive fire kit that hardly anyone carries every day.
