No-kill shelters are the latest rage in America. After all, doesn't every dog deserve a second change? How many times have we heard "Its not the dog - its the owner?" A biting dog may be surrendered and adopted several times. Its a revolving door.
Bro this is actually a serious problem in no kill shelters. They fill up and the dogs stay there, so anything that might not look so good on the dog is put aside so they can get out fast and make room for the next one. Rinse repeat
That’s a very narrow minded, racist statement. Just because an animal is a certain breed, that does NOT mean it acts like every other individual in that breed.
@Mia: My comment was in reply to D90Girl who said “If it’s a ‘shitbull’ it’s self explanatory”. They were basically saying that all bully breed dogs are aggressive.
@Crimson: Judging an individual based on what they are is the basis of racism. Translate it into judging individual animals of a certain breed and it’s the same concept. It’s funny that you brought up dog fighting. Anyone that knows ANYTHING about dog fighting can tell you that one of the main traits fighting dogs are bred for is being able to be handled by a human even while in the middle of a fight with another dog. Any aggression showed towards humans results in that dog not being used for breeding and more often than not, it’s killed. In the video here, they were talking about aggression towards HUMANS. So your comment/argument holds no water. I won’t deny that many bully breed type dogs have a high prey drive, even when it comes to other dogs. Just like I won’t deny that any hound will instinctively have a high prey drive as well. They were bred to hunt down prey. I won’t trust most hounds with cats. HOWEVER if an individual of ANY breed is socialized and trained from infancy to be fine and happy with new people and new animals and new situations, then that exposure and training will override their instincts. Not to mention the fact that many dogs who are bred for a certain purpose still don’t have certain instincts that you would expect from that breed. If you take a retriever, whose breed is known for their love of water, and never expose them to water in a positive way, and then throw them into a lake and shove their head underwater where they almost drown, you will create a dog that was bred to like water but based on its own personal experiences, it now has a fear of water. So flip that with a breed that has a high prey drive. Socialize it with other animals from infancy and train it well and it will be very unlikely to ever have any issues in that regard. I say unlikely because they are still animals, and animals, just like humans, can act out if put under enough pressure, no matter what breed and no matter how they were raised. But this whole “all bully breed dogs are animal and people killers” idea is just plain idiotic/stupid/ignorant. That mentality is just as ridiculous as judging a human by their genetic makeup. You cannot judge one individual based on the actions of another, no matter how much they have in common physically. THAT is why I used the term “racism”, to show the mentality of people who judge dogs based on breed.
If I were the interviewer I would have stopped the shelter director right there when he tried to use the "dating" analogy. I would say, "HOLD IT! YOU ARE COMPARING ADOPTION OF ANIMALS TO HUMAN DATING... YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS! ARE YOU STUPID? HOW EVER DID YOU GET THIS JOB?!"
Actually it is most of the time the humans fault. People who don’t know how to train animal properly nor understand dog body language. When there’s previous aggression means that owners had no idea what they were doing.
@@Lilliz91 I thought dogs were sooooo smart? Dog nutters claim their precious shit beasts are but then they say that everything but the dog is at fault and they are clearly resulting in using just their instincts. So the claim that they are intelligent creatures doesn't add up
This is happening all across the country, mostly because "no kill" rescues get bonuses and grants for having a "high release rate." Those aggressive dogs have seriously injured people and are many times transferred out of town to different shelters instead of doing the right thing, euthanization. The dating analogy is ludicrous. People in the USA are killed by dogs at an increasing rate (four times a month, currently, is the average.) Mostly this happens with dogs in the rescue system. This mandate hopefully will be nation wide.
They should never be up for adoption and their lies about the history should make them entirely liable for anything that happens at the shelter and after adoption.
Shelters like this give all shelters a bad name. Things like this are why shelters are not trusted, and less dogs are adopted. Plenty talented, experienced people or rescues would be happy to take on these special bite cases. But being dishonest like this only puts people and the dog in danger
I mean, maybe? But I wouldn't think that if there were a large number of "experienced people" ready to take these dogs, the shelters would be compelled to lie. The sheer overpopulation of Pit Bulls has led to a massive spate of shelters failing to acknowledge aggressive behaviors, lying about how the dogs get along with other dogs, cats, and children, and out and out trying to pass them off as mixes they clearly aren't. Just look on Petfinder in your area. You'll see a ton of "Retriever mixes" that are clearly all Pit Bill. Even some experienced rescuers of Pit Bulls have been killed by their dogs, but at least they knew what they were getting into. It's just not ethical to try to get someone to adopt a dog that's either 1) known to be aggressive via behavioral analysis, or 2) belongs to a breed that needs a lot of specialized handling that makes it inappropriate for a family setting.
Word. But you have the multi million dollar pit bull lobby fighting to impose these fighting dogs into our communities. So many people and pets killed thanks to this gaslighting and straight up lying.
They will eventually anyway . Shelters and Pitt fanatics are just prolonging the inevitable . They are also taking more lives down with the dog. They are evil
Absolutely. There is no arguable reason to keep ANY animal alive that attacks/kills humans or other animals (domestic, livestock, wild). Why spend the time, money and effort to "rehabilitate" (or not...I do not believe pit bulls and other breeds that are known to be aggressive and dangerous can be truly be rehabilitated) one of these genetic abominations, when you could focus energy on saving dogs that aren't likely to kill infants and children? Or, better yet, skip the stupid dogs altogether and get a different pet...or no pet. I'd like to see pit bulls euthanized and sterilized out of existence; they are truly worthless dogs (except in the warped minds of the narcissistic nutjobs that own them). They make up about 6-7% of the dogs owned in the US, but account for a staggering 65-70% of all attacks and fatalities on humans. A dog attacks a human, unprovoked (which is the overwhelming majority of them), or kills other animals, should be destroyed on the spot. Pit bull breeding should be banned, and anyone who insists on owning these hideous things should be required to have liability insurance and to demonstrate that they are sterilized, and are in an enclosure from which they can not escape...ever. Should their dog kill or maul a human, they should be held criminally liable, fined and jailed, if necessary, and be subject to civil lawsuits for damages for injuries and medical liens. There is a reason why many homeowner insurance policies refuse to insure homeowners that own pit bulls and other dangerous breeds: it has to do with statistics and data, period.

It's sad that these animals are excused for their aggressive and bad behaviors. and the majority of people who love dogs seriously need to open their eyes and realize how disgusting these animals are. dogs have such a bad history and nobody cares.
My local shelter does this too, as a dog trainer, when I was working there and evaluating the behavior of these dogs in their kennel, their personality cards seriously didn’t add up, one said “likes belly rubs” once he saw me he went straight up to my face tearing at the fencing trying to rip my face off through it, I have almost totally stopped supporting shelters now due to how unethical and dangerous they are, irresponsible surgeries permanently injuring animals, placing dangerous or hard to handle dogs in inexperienced homes, lying about the behavior and health of animals, importing diseased animals from other states and countries, not attending to injured animals, the list goes on.
Not everyone is equipped to handle and properly care for animals that tend to be aggressive. Adopting a dog is not at all like dating. I definitely think that animals with a bad past deserve a second chance, but you can’t trick people into getting one.
This is why you ask to spend time with the dog outside the cage before adopting. If they refuse it's a red flag. Even if the dog isnt aggressive or has a bite history, the dog and person might just not be the right ones for each other.
A good percentage of dogs in shelters are owner relinquished, and most of those are because of behavior problems, either biting, out of control, or potty issues. Implementing a program of in-shelter training, and offering training classes to the community and adopters , post adoption could help keep dogs in their homes and out of the shelter.
Arlyn Sigeti So not true. I’m a volunteer and an overwhelming number of dogs are brought in for frivolous reasons, like “we just had a baby and can’t care for a dog” (which you should consider before getting a dog). I would know, as I had to help people process the paperwork when they turned their dogs in the Downey, Baldwin Park AND West LA shelters. Most of these dogs are so sweet, but naturally terrified of the shelter atmosphere. The bite history of those who have bitten should be shared, but to say most of the dogs have behavioral issues is completely false. Ask the volunteers who work there daily!

Love that he only specified Pitbulls as if they’re the problem. This it’s such a disservice to the dogs they are setting them up for failure to where the dog can be blamed for a behavior that hasn’t been corrected and sent into a situation where no one knows about it. We had the exact same thing happened with a training foster. They never told us that the dog had a bite history let alone serious food aggression and dog aggression. No six months into extensive training food was dropped and he bit another trainer breaking skin and New York was forced his euthanasia. Turns out he hadn’t just had the tendencies but he had actually mauled a child, and a bit two separate rescue workers before being sent to us with trazodone for “mild anxiety” and no other issues… this Hass to stop happening it’s not the dogs fault humans have continued to fail them
Dogs are animals if you are not ready to handle a dog you should not adopt . At the same it should be mandatory to tell the past so the person who is adopting is ready to properly care for the dog .
Sorry, but if that Bubba is deemed dangerous due to biting, then I don’t know what my dogs are. Most small dogs are on the aggressive side due to their size and the size of the threat they see in everyone. Any dog that is rehomed is going to be difficult for a few months or even years. You’re a stranger to them. Some of them still long for their previous home and owner. It’s irresponsible to promote it as if they are perfect dogs from the get-go, friendly and happy. These were surrendered for a reason. Most of them bite, chew, pee, bark. Let alone after being in a shelter crate with 100 other dogs that bark all day, what type of stress is that! People that adopt should think of that, just as they should think when they take a puppy - do you have time to train them for 2 years, daily? Behavioral issues can be corrected. That’s what the owner is there for and if you choose to own a dog, these mishaps are part of the gamble of having a friend for life. Don’t blame shelters or promote killing every dog just because they don’t tick your perfect bubble World.

This is why I don’t adopt dogs.
Same, I've had bad experiences with rescues so I don't trust them anymore.
This is why you ask to spend time with the dog outside the cage before adopting. If they refuse it's a red flag.
Even if the dog isnt aggressive or has a bite history, the dog and person might just not be the right ones for each other.
Well the video does say they sedate the dog. So you can't be sure when if you spend time with the dog outside of the kennel.
They charged $400 or $500 for each adoption.
Im going to adopt a dog but a puppy not a grown dog
@Crimson EnKlover what
It probably helps, but there've been plenty of cases with Pit Bulls where they flip out on people who have raised them from very young puppyhood.
I take trazadone, it makes you tired. Zero energy... it's pretty obvious why they give the dogs trazadone. It's much easier to adopt a mello dog.
You can’t train an aggressive shitbull not to be aggressive. It’s genetic
imagine being so bad at ur job they have to create a law for u
Liars.
I know many dogs in shelters won't be released to just anybody but a rescue group.
I love that they were adopted together! 4:27
Just stick with cats.
Pitbulls that bite,no way
All shelters do the same thing.
Nope... Reputable rescues and shelters are very upfront with the history of their dogs. Too bad shitty place like this make them look bad.
Many do, especially no-kill shelters.
Kill shelters are at least more honest than no-kill shelters
Only no kill shelter
Why would you adopt when you can just buy a mutt
Wtf that's my dog!!!
"I Gotta Find Bubba!!!!" - Forrest Gump
😂😂😂😂 they lying 🤥 to the people so I can get rid of that bad dogs
Are that's my dog!!
Dangerous dogs?
Dogs are not dangerous, the breeders and people who make them aggressive are causing all of the danger.
Stop making it hard for the poor dogs they are animals after all
Humans are more important and these dogs are a hazard to humans
Need to put down any and all aggressive dogs.
@@Dan474834 humans are the real hazard to humanity, not dogs. If you can’t train or get control of your animal, the problem is your own incompetence. Get a gold fish, that’s more your skill level.
Bubba looks like my dog i adopted when he was 8. He had a biting problem at first. But now hes 17, hes a happy boy , healthy and spoiled. He rescued me🤗♥️
Just stop ✋🏻
Thanks to humans , these dogs have a bad history.
Thank you .
Handling a dog doesn’t mean allowing them to attack and bite others
Please don’t hurt these dogs they haven’t sone anything wrong!!!
Lol Bubba is so puny
So you rather have them all put down
Yes
@@erin.v.m657 just be quiet Alvin, lol.
@@blackie8083 ...my grandma used to spell my name Irwin. At least try to be original, Blackie.....geesh.
Yes please
Leave the damn shelter alone, go pick on someone else
Emily's Photography Seriously. Of all the horrible things happening in this corrupt city, CBS is picking on the shelters. So lame
Or maybe the shelter should stop adopting out dangerous dogs that can MAUL A CHILD. That sounds like a pretty important issue to me but maybe not to dummies like you
The shelter can easily cause the death of humans and other animals
@@nikicarrie4071shelters need to learn when to put an animal down with a serious enough bite history that they feel the need to lie to people. Why should people be put at risk ….
And humans is not tell about their dangerous nature
Irrelevant.
That’s not a sentence, FYI.
Shelter dogs they need real loving committed people to give them love and time to adjust to the new environment..at the end they became a part of thefamily
Are we watching the same video?
That's not what this is about.
Who wants to be bothered with such needy pests?
is this MTG area
Bad parents not dogs
Lab mix 😂
Well if they said the full truth nobody would adopt them duh
@@jabmalassie dominated animals don’t need to live in the nature.
Shelters should always be truthful and not lie by hiding the history of dogs
That is the person’s choice!!!!!! Not somebody hiding truth to push on people
