As a Hervey Bay local I feel your pain guys trying to get decent fish past sharks around here isn’t easy at the best of time . For the so called experts trying to give you guys tips and pointers obviously haven’t fished that area and don’t understand you need to get the fish in as quick as possible to beat sharks and that’s why you lose so much trying to keep the lines tight . Too hard and too much drag. Just going to rip hooks out all day long. If a fish is running don't tighten the drag, if you're getting down on the spool you have to loosen the drag and chase as the drag force increases as the spool empties, think of it as using a foot long spanner to undo a nut, if you use a 6 inch spanner it will take twice the force from you to do the same as the foot long spanner. Same concept with the spool, prob 20 to 30% increase in drag from the lower spool.
