Just for the record this PV is not what happened in touhou 12 guys. This is actually a fan idea of what happened before Byakuren was sealed. Thus the girl is not reimu but a previous shrine maiden of some sort.
Well it is said that Byakuren was sealed for at least 100-1000 years so If 1000 years I think that this was the start of the hakurei maidens and the God they talk about was Byakuren or the first shrine maiden
I really like this one. Explains exactly what Byakuren did to help both humans and yōkai, and how she got sealed in Makai as a result of the humans' jealousy (or something; they might have considered her to be too dangerous) and all without a single word. What a saint.
I think the story behind the purple haired girl is that after the events of when she was little, she looked up to Byakuren, and probably assumed that Byakuren was against Youkai, so she "followed in her foot steps", years later, saw the ship, and went looking for Byakuren, attacking everyone else. When Byakuren defended her followers, the girl was not only shocked but also hurt, and thus caused a riot that resulted in Byakuren having to seal herself away?
These guys always make the best out of all the animations. There are some clear animation improvements since last year and the song is also really catchy.
I love the little details in this that I missed during my first watch: the way the girl's eyes flick from Byakuren's hand on her cheek back to her face, how the chains that seal Byakuren come from the seals stuck to her back, etc.
Carol M I feel that in their case, it would be less out of respect for her religion and more out of respect for byakuren herself, They may not follow the religion to the letter, but let's be honest who does?
Carol M Maybe with zen buddhism but with Mahayan buddhism(great vehicle) it and other modernization, meat eating not all that anti buddism. There so many variation now... Mahayana being the most open. I wonder if that where that Great vehicle spell card came from
It's actually based on Hakurei Miko, a ''Fan'' character. Since Reimu's appearance from the PC-98 era was handwaved, people decided to make up the idea that there was a Hakurei Miko before Reimu and that this is her. It's a very popular concept as it allows people to use PC-98 ''Reimu'' without having to deal with ZUN's weird explanation. TL;DR: It's not Reimu.
@amethystnat I think that was one of Reimu's ancestors... Seeing as the dress style looks very much like Our Shrine Maiden's... But Reimu Started out with the Hakurei Orbs... Not some strange sealing device that locks away others in null-space... There where supposedly at one time MANY Hakurei Shrine Maidens, as well as all other types of Shrine Maidens in Gensokyo to ward off the Youki... Now Reimu is the last Hakurei Shrine Maiden...
@mangalovinfreak The blue haired miko is just an original character for this PV. She does resemble PC-98 Reimu who was at the end of the Bad Apple PV. Technically PC-98 Reimu and Marisa are the same characters as the Reimu and Marisa we know from the windows series.
@WatcherCCG In canon, Reimu is neutral; she doesn't hate youkais nor humans, but help both anyway. She's not a hard worker like Marisa, and she is not as dedicated as Sanae. Fanon tends to portray her as a greedy and sometimes bitchie miko. Byakuren was sealed by the humans that thought she was a youkai hunter; they wanted someone to exterminate the youkai, not someone to lend them a hand. And finally; no Hakurei lineage, no Gensokyo, and that's it.
This is also most likely a video for a fan theory. Since on the wiki it says that Byakuren actually sacrificed a ship full of monks in order to get to Murasa. And that she was sealed away against her own will. But fan theories are fun, and personally I think this one is beautiful.
This is very nice. I was especially moved by the rescue of Minamitsu Murasa; very touching and badass. However, that's not how it happened in canon. And it's funny, sad and irritating that people are forming their opinions of the characters based on uncanonical stuff. Also, people. Please. Any witch who dresses like Marisa is not Marisa. MARISA is the one dressing like a witch. Miko all dress in the miko fashion. There are lots of miko out there who have no relation to the Hakurei.
Yes, Byakuren was sealed in Makai, but she's still alive. Also, because they're Youkai, more seen as a threat than anything else. While Byakuren treats them more as equals after she starts realizing how much she needs them, they're killed or exterminated by most people rather than respected.
shes a women truely worthy of respect ...and dare i say it, adoration, your a lucky ghost to be so close tosomeone so poweful yet so caring and wise...
after helping all those yokai from their misery, not one even had the power to even save her back when she was about to be sealed... such is the fate of the strong I guess... you help people up but when it comes to the point in time when you need helping, no one has the capacity to help you... :(
@watawa4 That can be a possibility too watawa, but in the intro of the video, right before shou knocked the miko down. The miko was carrying a stick in a way so that she can feel what was in front of her. Also, when she was searching for her sack, she didn't look down to search for the sack, but she was trying to feel for the sack. I can see where your going with that, but I wanted to clear things up.
@Reno750 Its pretty clearly in the intro, here. At any rate, the point being that its understandable from a human perspective that youkai would be distrusted. Although, as far as I know, Byakuren was big on having youkai/human as equals.
@watawa4 IMO she's blind at the start of the video, and the necklace she got given cured her blindness. Let's face it, she's Youkai Jesus, and I'm pretty sure curing blindness is one of the real deal's miraculous feats.
i see... byakuren met reimus ancestor and she was the one that caused Byakuren to be sealed away only for Reimu to be the one to meet her after she gets out
No. She appears to be just an ordinary human who became a shrine maiden. There has been a lot of speculation in these comments that she's an ancestor of Reimu, but nobody can really say.
the original reimu actualy had purple hair but once ZUN disbanded his old crew he had to redesign reimu (and marisa and yuka) since his old crew owned partial copyright. this is why mima wasn't included in later games and why marisa and reimu look different in in touhou 6 and up.
Just for the record this PV is not what happened in touhou 12 guys. This is actually a fan idea of what happened before Byakuren was sealed. Thus the girl is not reimu but a previous shrine maiden of some sort.
I love Touhou, but don't know that much about the story, so was she ever released?
She was released at the end of the 12th game and settled in Gensoukyo.
CrazySushiTaxi Soo kinda like a predecessor of Reimu?
@@arturoayala1004 that was an original hakurei shrine maiden I believe

I think its byakuren who decides to seal herself because she thinks shes too dangerous for her kind
Thank you Reiuji Utsuho for bringing back Byakuren and The Palanquin Ship
Thank's to kanako `,:3

it's okay, I cried everytime
NO I"M CRYING TOO I GUESS
It's raining, friends.
actualy, it's Hokkai. the place where she was sealed. (but still is makai but a other part of it)
These guys always make the best out of all the animations. There are some clear animation improvements since last year and the song is also really catchy.
I love the art style, and everything about this, that it made me cry.
I keep coming back to watch this video. It's adorable, sad, well-animated and the music owns.
I love the little details in this that I missed during my first watch: the way the girl's eyes flick from Byakuren's hand on her cheek back to her face, how the chains that seal Byakuren come from the seals stuck to her back, etc.
これ見てより聖さん大好きになった
Poor Hijiri, just because she respected both Youkai and human, and out of jealousy
I wonder what those youkai did to that miko after Byakuren was sealed. It probably wasn't pretty.
They Probably let her go, I doubt they would disgrace byakuren by killing her out of anger.
Well, it's been implied in the manga that the Buddhist Youkai don't exactly follow the rules of Buddhism, like eating meat and whatnot.

her name is Byakuren and you should become Buddhist
thank you Beth Hardy
This video has just become my #1 favorite touhou video, It is so sad it even made my feminine side cry manly tears.
Decided to come back and watch this again. :)

This was so heart-warming until "that"
dont worry guys.. shell be back in exactly 3 days..

if I know the Touhou series correctly, the blind girl was the very first Shrine Maiden, an ancestor of Reimu Hakurei.

@watawa4 IMO she's blind at the start of the video, and the necklace she got given cured her blindness. Let's face it, she's Youkai Jesus, and I'm pretty sure curing blindness is one of the real deal's miraculous feats.

Too far
Nazrin is a disciple of Bishamonten who was sent to test Shou's faith.
This is a perfect example of why I think Byakuren is kinda like the "Mommy" of the Gensokyo dwellers.
