As usual, another great video. Like another commenter said, I would have watched at regular speed. Your such a calm sounding person, I could play your videos just for the audio. Cheers, stay safe during this social distancing thing.
Cool! My boys and I are excited to get into bolt action. We are newbies and having fun building the models. We hope to have our stuff built and painted so we can play over the Christmas holidays.
Great video. Very relaxing whilst talking about fearsome anti tank guns! I've just started a small Afrika Korps army just as an excuse to get the Flak 88 because it's so cool. Should be great in-game too.
Wonderful assembly and commentary. The 88 is my personal favourite artillery piece. But my favourite AA is the 2cm flak 36 being infantry portable and suits my Fallschirmjäger Korps for Bolt action
my favourite gunplatform for bolt action is my Koningstiger (tiger 2) with full interior. altho I never put it in my list because it's way to overpowered and wouldnt make for a fun match so it's always on the side of the table as a conversation piece so I can go with my opponent "hey look at this cool kit !"
I didn't expect a girl to be building the mighty 88... you did a tidy job FairPlay. Zevsda do a great set with crew that are in scale with the gun. Not bad for a italari kit.
My favourite German artillery piece would be the Hummel SPG while my favourite Soviet artillery piece is the A-20 152mm howitzer. Modern favourite would be the Bofors/Volvo FH77B Archer for it's mobility in strong competition with the old retired Bandkanon 1 for it's innovative 14 round clip loaded magazine and high rate of fire for it's size. 14rnds of 155mm shells in 45s out to a 25km range and only 2 minutes to refill the magazine at the ammo truck as part of the after firing relocating process. And, I am trained on the Swedish towed 12cm mortar m/41D.
Looking forward to seeing you two play this. Naomi stacking her army against Melody lol. I hear there are some nice relaxing Paint With Me videos somewhere around here if you need background while assembling 😉
I take your point, but it is horses for courses. I think the PAK40 lasts longer becuase it is not such a threat. When facing an 88 every mortar, howitzer and sniper in my army is trying to kill it. My tanks just hide from it until it is dead. The turntable is a good ace up it's sleeve as well, especially on Ambush. I currently have three 88s - one for my late-war Germans, one for my early war Germans, and one for the DAK. It is awesome against infantry in buildings too!
@@Swindondruid2 yes I understand that but lower silhouette does come into play, especially if your opponent actually plays off the board i.e. can your guys actually "SEE" it. This attitude take a LOT to learn for many wargamers. It is covered in the rulebooks both 1st and 2nd edition Bolt Action books cover "line of sight". Anyhoo Be Good Y'all stay safe and hope to see you across the table some day.
Great example of building a flakk 88. I have a couple in my collection. Can't wait to see you play this game its such fun. My fav German artillery price is the howling cow :-) deadly when it hits :-)
Aside from the game, the Tiger 1 was one of the most feared tanks of WW2 toting a 8.8 cm KwK 36 L/56 main gun.I would think in the game even though a Tiger 1 or Tiger 2 cost more points, the mobility of tank killers would be worth the point value.
hey Naomi, i am a scale modeler, i've always prefered plastic figures over metal. a lot finer detail. great comprehensive vid, i'd love to see you paint it.
Thank you for this Naomi!!! I have 2 of them, the SS version (which is basically the same and the Wermacht) I LOVE the 88, this model however I found to be a real pain to put together...I've yet to put the other one together...I'd love to see you do the Stug, it is one of my favorites...
Have two of these 88s the kit was ok to put together but I found the thin bits were annoying. Also the gunner being metal meant the top part would lean over if you leave it separate for horizontal turns. First one I painted for Blitzkrieg Germans and the second I painted the men as Luftwaffe both I can use for my Battle of Berlin army. I left the shield separate on the Luftwaffe 88 just wish there was an official points reduction for leaving the shield off like some other guns. Great video. :)
Great video as usual and awesome model. I love bolt action but having an 88 in a 28mm skirmish game seems a bit weird, unless you have a big game mat (8x4-5) and face off lengthwise. They seems slightly more realistic (from a usage standpoint) in 15mm scale.
If you don't already have it, I would recommend the "Campaign: The Western Desert" book. There are some realy fun lists in there if your opponent agees to use it too. Four PzIII vs three Matildas in a 'normal' game, not tank wars!
This video ... helps with the cabin fever so much ... God Emperor bless you! You are truly doing His work for us during this grim dark time ... everyone see what I did there ... yeah ... bored lol
I just discovered, and subscribed to your channel. Nice to see that your interests are varied, and not just focusing on one genre. Napoleonics are my favorite, but im also getting into bolt action, as well as medieval. Your voice is great, very calm and easy on the ear, ( there are too many bombastic channels on youtube). Anyway, im looking forward to viewing the rest of your videos. Bye for now.
great video what you think of the Pak 40 ,cheaper and don't need a tow, but i love the 88,have a DAK army and playing 1000pts right now. have to decide go for pak 40 or 88 and smaller tanks like panzer 11 don't know in game Howe it will work out.
Bruno Larcheveque Actually the 88s were already used in Spain as AT guns for test purposes, but my comment take reference on Melodys KV, not the history.
Look good to me, unless the fact that you had to reinforce the gunner, but on most situations that shouldn't be a big problem and can be fixed; IRL i'll preffer a Pak-40, mainly for it's movility.
@@charles_wipman Fair play. The low profile of the PAK is good - the long range of the 88 is a factor too. Being a coward, in real life the deciding factor would be that the 88 is usually deployed further to the rear. Tea and crumpets instead of mud and blood. I have three 88s and two PAK 40s in BA, and they all have their part to play.
Always, but especially in the times we find ourselves in, this is one of the best go to channels. Always informative and entertaining. Always brings the anxiety level down. Thank you.
If you are open to British army, the 25-pounder was a versatile weapon. I haven't watched the full video, so sorry if you answered, but are you going to do a painting video?
The Market Garden book is very good, and gives a lot of new units. My club did a Market Garden campaign two years ago and it was great fun. The main thing you will need is canals and bridges. I found 4' of canal and a simple Dutch cantilever bridge gave the table that 'Market Garden' feel. Avoid buying the model of Son bridge - it is a swing bridge and needs (in my case) a two foor by six foot terrain piece to host it.
Very nice. But in this time of world wide panic and worry I think you need to bring out War muffin and the gang for some morale boosting Warcry battle reports.
I think the next White Dwarf is due out about now but I suspect its journey across the Atlantic might be delayed. Maybe I'll roll one up, put it in a bottle and throw it in the sea. Hopefully it will end up on a beach in Canada ☺
The 88 was the Swiss army knife of artillery of ww2, and definitely a contender for coolest artillery. Trumped by the soviet rocket batteries, Katyusha, and the monstrous german railway gun, Gustav.
May I say, your name is very appropriate. Naomi is a Hebrew name and means "pleasant, delightful". I enjoy watching your videos and you are a delightful person and your voice is very pleasant. (Hope you don't mind me making this compliment. Don't mean it in any dodgy way)
I remember being told stories when I was a youngster by my grandma about my grandpas' exploits during WW2. He was a B-17 tail gunner in the 4th BS/34th BG and flew missions over Germany and France, hitting airfields mostly. One particular mission stood out though. The time his brains got blown out because of flak from a German 88.
Norman Wood it’s awesome as a mission objective which is what I use mine for. The artillery crew are an interesting unit as well, a large less skilled unit. Makes for interesting tactical situations.
I take your point, but there are loads of examples of 88s firing over open sights, so I think it is justified. Under Bolt Action I think there should be rule called Immobile becuase under the rules this gun, although 'Fixed' can still be transported 12" by it's crew whilst on it's cruciform base, without wheels. Now that I would like to see.
Those steel cylinders carried by German soldiers and which you can see in the video are gas mask holders. I assume they were issued to all troops throughout the war but of course no countries used gas in WW2 so they would never have been used in earnest.
No, they weren't commonly used, particularly as the war carried on (I heard they eventually used the canisters for bread!), but the Germans did carry gas masks, and a more stationary weapon like the 88 could have a crew rather paranoid about a gas attack, particularly in early war battles ^_^ But it wasn't to be in this case *sighs and tucks them away for another day*
I love the Flakk 88 I built 2 of them in 1/35 scale. The 88 was way ahead of its time . When captured the Americans didn’t know how to operate it.
As usual, another great video. Like another commenter said, I would have watched at regular speed. Your such a calm sounding person, I could play your videos just for the audio. Cheers, stay safe during this social distancing thing.

Really liking these Bolt Action unboxing videos, they helped me decide to get some of the models and look into the game.
Great look to making the formidable flack 8.8 really enjoyed it and a great tip on supporting the seat
Thank you

Favorite Bolt Action German Arty piece? Neberwafer. Hands down a ton of fun and great splash damage. Not the best against armor, great anti-infantry.
Thank you very much, Naomi!
Great vid Naomi. The 88 was a well feared beast. I'd have happily watched in normal speed! Keep up the great work!

I like the PAK 40's lower silhouette. Maybe not as versatile, but I find it lasts longer if deployed sensibly.
