Guys! Don't forget to get your 360 sound that come with the headset, you have to right click the speaker symbol on the bottom right hand side of the windows bar. Hover over "Spatial sound(off)" and turn it on. Now you have 360 degree's of sound that your paid for, but they don't tell you how to turn it on....
Thanks! Does this sound work for games like Beatsaber?
Hi Sebastian. Could you show us differences between lens view supersampling 100% vs 140% in Odyssey+ ?

I kinda liked this release method. Gives you opportunity to watch together and even ask questions on the side real time.
It's actually better to just leave the manual override off. Steam software will automatically set it as high as it can go and maintain a stable frame rate. Since it does it automatically it can set it depending on how resource intensive each application is. In my experience it does a pretty good job at adjusting it. And then you can also add or subtract an amount of resolution in addition to the auto setting for each individual application if you need to .
Do a bench mark video on popular vr games with 140% super sample
My Steam VR was already set at 200% automatically. I changed the setting in the Steam VR for WMR setting file to super sample at 1.4 and that made a big difference.
Mine was already set at 166% (I have a 1070Ti). Like SousaKing, I changed the renderTargetScale value in default.vrsettings to 1.4 and that made a noticeable difference in Elite Dangerous.
@@fnunez 168% with a 1070 TI :p i think 140 is clearer to , SS is overrated. To much SS cant be good.
How does adjusting the SS in the WMR Settings file affect the values you have in Steam Settings: Video and Per Application SS? For example you had the auto 200% and then adjusted your file to SS 1.4 and it made a difference. Was that because it added another 1.4 to your 2.0?
@@bikingwithoutborders I believe raising the value in the WMR setting file affects all steam VR apps. It seemed like some apps were not affected by the steam vr slider but the setting file affects everything. I think it is an additional multiplier to the steam vr slider.
@@jfgaert awesome, thank you for the reply.
The plot: change steam vr resolution from 100% to 140%
Sebastian. You have come a long way! I really like the new background and I hope the channel keeps growing and improving! Love from Argentina :D
Maybe this setting improves the center of the lenses quality, but no matter what I do looking from side to side in the lenses are very blurry. Sweet spot FOV of this VR headset is too narrow compared to my Rift. Even though the Odyssey plus has improved SDE, unless I am looking at dead center of the lenses all the time, makes the headset unwatchable out past its narrow viewing sweet spot. I went back to the Oculus Rift for my SIM Racing which I need that wider FOV even though their lenses are smaller and are in focus side to side.
Just found it, thank you so much for your VR coverage. Miss Frankfurt.
You can do this with any headset in steam VR
Great tip, i wouldn't have known this.. glad i watched this video.
My O+ arrived a few days ago, very impressed, zero SDE! I've also made a few modifications, first cut the piece of rubber that sticks out of the top of the nose with a nail clipper, only what comes out, well cut that does not protrude nothing, infinitely more comfortable just with this, being able to rest very little and comfortably the O+ on my nose. And then with the strap of a gear vr (only the back part, not the top) I have put it in the same way in the O +, between the velcro and the headset on each side, wrapping the foam of the O+ from inside to outside, and behind the head above the one of the Odyssey leaving this slightly adjusted, this way stretches the lower part of the visor towards my face increasing the FOV a lot. It also prevents me from getting light on the sides. With zero SDE the great FOV and great comfort is undoubtedly my favorite viewer waiting for the 5K + to arrive but I will still use it a lot for sure, maybe we can add this filter to the other headsets. Of course, you have to apply about 200 SS, amazing!
This is why I'm a Patreon! Thank You Seb!

Great Video like always!
Supersampling is more or less what AntiAliasing does.
I wonder how this makes the image more sharper ? Yes it propably makes the image more solid and less jaggedy but i would say it can’t make the image sharper.
Am i wrong here ?
Thats a solid question. what about 1000% ss ..
if you actually read what supersampling does exactly then it would be more clear to you.. it can affect the contrast on edges and therefore making things more clear... it starts with a picture with greater resolution and resizes it to a smaller one with certain sampling method... you start with more data, and end up with less but some of the characteristics of more data can remain in the image made up of less data
chronok so its basicly AA... and it depens how you look At it but it doesnt quite make the image more sharp just less jagged.
@@MrMetaloholic realtime AA is something different, more complicated than standard multisampling.. complicated as it has to be far less expensive.. and the output quality is usually far worse
chronok Yeah supersampling is done by rendering whole image and AA to my knoledge is only to remove jagged edges
Wrong advice. There is a high performance impact if you do it this way. You have to enable supersampling, but do not touch that 100% there. Instead, set just per application in Application tab. If you set global 140% it will slow down the whole Steam. Weird, but that's how it is.
I'm going to give you some advice. Advice you really need to take on board. It will really help you on UA-cam. That advice is coming right up. Stick around and I'll tell you the advice that you can't do without. This is the best advice you'll ever get and it's coming up soon. Here it is. You don't want to miss this advice. GET TO THE FUCKING POINT!
Hi, thanks for your great advice! This is a 4 minute video though abd I believe already pretty straight forward. :)
VR Roundtable uncovered this 4 days ago. Is this DejaVuTV?
kf229 he’s been talking about using supersampling, adjusted from steam vr, for at least 3 weeks in regards to this headset.
maybe steam changed it but those setting options are not in my steam vr....:(
wouldve been nice if you wouldve done a through the lens with this but thanks still
Can you really do this with a GTX 1070 Video Card? Seems like you would need a GTX 1080TI to do this..
in his video his using gtx1070. I have rx580 and can do 150%. but it depends on the game and your hardware hence you need to play around the settings to find your sweetspot.
I feel like I am trapped inside a 360p youtube video, it is impossible to read text without having on a huge size.
Great video! You just gained a new subscriber! I'm new to VR/Windows Mixed Reality and I'll take any information that I can get! I have a Samsung Odyssey + and by default (I never touched it until now), it was preset to 120. Now, it does seem like 140 looks better on the game (Pinball FX 2 VR) that I tried. At least I think it does. :) Maybe this is a stupid question, but not really understanding this stuff, I'll ask anyway: Would cranking it up to say "200" be even better? Or would that just goof up the resolution/display or simply put too much of a strain on my video card? I currently have a 1070 GTX, but am considering taking the dive to a RTX 2080 in the future. Your help is greatly appreciated!
the higher the you set it the more strain on your graphics card, leading to poor performance.
Thanks for your response, Isaac! So, if I may ask... If I crank it up and don't notice any stuttering, I should be OK? Also, if my headset has a resolution of 1440 x 1600, and I turn up the resolution, am I actually gaining anything? Or am I completely misunderstanding the concept and turning it up would make the picture even sharper?
@@KingBobCat as long as you feel the game is running smoothly you should be fine. Google asw, its something vr uses to help with performance. If the game kicks into asw you may notice artifacts, or slight double vision kinda with certain things. Some games work better than others. I would recommend getting some type of monitoring program so you can see your fps and gpu usage. I personally use MSI Afterburner, as it lets you set up a custom graph. So u can play for a bit, and then review the graph to see whats going on. SS is kinda a hard concept to grasp, and comes with diminishing returns the higher you set it. But it basically renders the image at a higher resolution than the display (in this case your head set), and then compresses it to fit the native resolution.
First of all, Thank You again for responding to my questions, Isaac! I think I understand what you're saying regarding the display resolution. And I understand it to mean that despite the resolution of my headset, if I crank up the setting, the detail will be crisper.... The monitoring program suggestion sounds interesting too. Thanks! :)
I just tried it on my system and when I check the box for "Manual Override" it seems to already be set to 200%. Yes 200%. Presumably due to my Steam detecting that my system has a 1080Ti.
Another very important to put "renderTargetScale" = 2.0 (by default 1.0)
I've just added this last night...amazing difference for R3E
What about the performance loose
Can i do it with gtx 1080? Not ti?
Thanks Sabastian, very helpful indeed :-)
Ya, put it at 140 so it will crash once an hour...
Btw, skip to about halfway in, this covers 1 of 6 important things and takes damn near 5 minutes to do it!
I'm new to WMR (I have a Samsung Odyssey Plus). Is there other things I can do to improve my headset's image sharpness/quality? I currently have a GTX 1070, running on an i5 CPU... If I upgraded to say a new 2080Ti and an i9 computer, would that increase anything as far as the WMR screen resolution? I am on the Steam VR Beta and currently don't experience stuttering or anything... I'm just interested in getting the maximum clarity from my headset. Do I have a complete misunderstanding of the whole sharpness/resolution issue? All help and input is very much appreciated!
By default mine was set to 200%. In VR games, it looks amazing. DCS on the other hand, I struggle to get above 45fps when with supersampling turned to 100%. I have i7 7700k and 1080ti.
Is there a way to turn it down for DCS? In the stand alone version i mean?
@@WamBam36 You can adjust this setting per game in steamVR settings - there is a dropdown for different applications. I got my O+ yesterday and I'm still trying to find the sweetspot for my dcs settings.
Idk if a rtx 2060 will be good enough for super sampling, but either way, I had no idea that settings menu was there lol. Thumbs up just for that.
Uh yeah, a 2060 will be good enough lmao
Thanks for the info👍🏻
You needed to mention two other very important things that need to be done. Changing "renderTargetScale" to 2.0 and "motionReprojectionMode" to auto. renderTargetScale is the key to taking the softness out of the image. MotionReprojectionMode is WMRs version of Oculus ASW and is oddly disabled by default (Oculus default is enabled).

Because it was up to date...

Mine is set to 200%. Looks damn sexy... but maybe my eyes cannot tell the difference between 140% & 200% anyway
I watch movies in Bigscreen at 215% and it looks so goooooooood
Does it really? I mean does it look as good as watching on a normal TV?
Above 150 you should be able to tell the diference from artifacts. Dont nerf your machine, keep it bellow 150.

Brilliant advice, Sebastian.

This headset sucks. Just picked one up and it is dogs hit compared to my rift S and quest 2. I know this is an old video but the odyssey + is blurry no matter what you do. Its a night and day difference from my rift S which still looks beautiful by 2022 standards. What headset are you using now?
At its time, it was the best. I am now using Varjo Aero, Quest 2 and Reverb G2.
When comparing the original Odyssey to the Odyssey+ at the same SS setting, does the Odyssey still look sharper? I think I don't like the diffusion layer they put on the Odyssey plus, especially for reading text
Termination Shock I am starting to think the same. My Odyssey + and Lenovo explorer arrived and were set up at same time with identical settings and the Lenovo is noticeably sharper. I really see this in DCS world flight sim when looking at trucks about 150-200m away and clearly see details like wheels and side textures....with the Odyssey + it is just a truck shape blob with no real detail. SS is at 150 and per app multiplier about the same. I have tried the SS and per app multiplier in many combinations and cant get the O+ anywhere near the Lenovo crispness. I see similar issues in Skyrim and fallout 4 so not just DCS world. Bit dissapointed I must say!
My ancient Greek warrior helmet was at 168 by default. Tuning it down to 140 besides giving me lots extra frames, image looks sharper , SS is very overrated .
The question is... why and when steam messed with my old normal 100% setting, and where are the lens pictures proving higher SS values are better?
SS is clearer than native resolution these days ?
Did a search for it.. Don`t let valve downgrade your machine and your headset... override the value and keep it bellow 150% .
Hi friend in project cars 2 in vr mode using the odyssey + there is no HUD Displays speedometer visible and the camera view is stuck on the overhead shot! But when i take the headset off the displays are on the tv (monitor).I want the inside the cockpit shot, can you help me solve this ?
How do I connect this samsung headset to steam vr
I can't see any diferences.
Hi Sebastian. One question: Is there a difference if you configure the supersampling in steamvr or in the windows mixed reality configuration file? Thank's.
Bernardo Flórez I’ve wondered how they might overlap as well. Are you referring to the widows setting that doesn’t use % but uses values such as: high, very high(beta)?
Is there a way to change supersampling natively for the WMR compositor? The reasoning behind the Rift/Vive/Pro's 1.4x supersampling is to account for the pixel density loss from distortion correction. Maybe that's not as bad with the Odyssey (haven't had much time to play with mine yet), but ideally SteamVR isn't downsampling images before they're corrected for distortion.
Hi sabastian ang ! I have Samsung oddysey first gen headset ... But I'm really harassed with the controllers getting out of contact n not getting recognised by the head set every now & then it's frustrating when you playing a game & suddenly the tracking on the controllers is lost... Mine is at 200% by default using a 1080ti. Why would I downgrade to 140%? Is it suppose to make it better? This video is a bit mis-leading.
I have an O+ and a 1080Ti and my default is also 200%. I would also like to know this same thing. For now I'm leaving it at 200%.
My steam VR is at version beta 1.10.28. Question? how would set sampling in this latest revision? Thanks
I'm buying a Samsung Odyssey+ today, and I have a few WMR controllers laying around, does other WMR controllers work with this headset?
the new hp g2 will work. they will sell the controllers separately. You can also use vive knuckles and rift controllers.
Does this still work on 1.18.6?
Windows Mixed Reality headsets are less than nothing. Everyone who owns one knows what I mean. Too bad... Samsung has done a good job creating an almost ideal piece of tech.
How badly does this hit your fps?
Hello, I don't think I have the same setting for my O+ that you do. My settings include (for Render Resolution) "Resolution Per Eye" (and that is the only slider I have) as well as "Advanced Supersample Filtering" (with options of on and off). Is the "resolution per eye" the thing I should be changing?
Yes resolution per eye is what you want. Latest steam VR looks different but it will do the same trick!

So if I understand right this super sample increase is on your computer (GPU I presume) and so will affect your computer performance. It's not something on the headset. I ordered my Odyssey plus and it should arrive somewhere this month, but I will be running it on a GTX 970 to begin with.
your two eye-screens each have 1600 x 1440 pixels. Your computer calculates the game at that size and then maps that image onto your pixels. Each pixel is one color. If you increase the supersampling, then your computer is calculating an image larger than 1600 x 1440. In doing so, it has more information about the colors that would go _in between_ the pixels. It can use this info to get the "average" color for a pixel which is helpful especially along high-contrast edges in the image, and gives it the appearance of something kind of like an increase in resolution. Knowing how graphhics intensive it is to render VR at a mere 1600 x 1440, you can imagine how much of a toll it will take on your system to render VR at 2400 x 2160 just to get a slight boost in image quality. It makes a big difference in appearance if we are talking about the difference between 100% and 140%, but the 970 won't let you bring the SS nearly up to 140%. I have the gtx 1070, and on average I can get my supersampling up to about 120% with ultra graphics. Whether 120% on medium/high graphics looks better than 100% on high/ultra graphics depends on the game.
OK thanks. Wasn't sure what super sample does.
