Same here. Every evening I would walk from the LSE to my tiny flat behind the window on the right at 9:06. This was more than twenty years ago. Michael Palin had a house nearby and Blairite A.C. lived up the street.
Ealing to Westminster please. Love your videos, please keep the date/time stamps on the footage, it's helpful to know the time of day you made the journey. Keep it up buddy
Love your videos! Very informative for someone who's picked up cycling again over the pandemic - and entertaining as well. Would be excited to see more South London content, eg East Dulwich to Clapham
Hi Just an idea ........ For those of us who do not live in the London area, but can get a train to Waterloo - and are not familiar with London Cycle Routes - a small selection of circular routes to start and finish at Waterloo Station would encourage more of us to get cycling safely in London in confidence. Cheers for your videos - super clear camera work.
These videos are great, thank you! Would love to see a north to west route - I recently cycled from Finchley to Hammersmith and didn’t love the route so would love to find a better option.
Used to live on Grafton Road, many years ago. Good memories. Sad to see that every pub on that road has been converted to flats, except for the one on Prince of Wales Road.
Try heading up through Camden Square and then LCN route 6 and LCN route 14 (its signposted... sort of)... you can see it on this map www.opencyclemap.org it's not brilliant but probably the best way. I might do a video it actually
Thanks, I'm returning to Hampstead Heath on Saturday, I'm in Chelsea so undecided on route yet, but I've not done this one, and as it swerves that horrendous junction at Euston where I thought I may die, yours looks far safer. Have you done Chelsea - Wimbledon? I rescue Pigeons, and the nearest place to me is Wimbledon - we currently Uber meds and Pigeons back and forth so if I could cycle that would be better, but I've heard there be hills, so not done it yet x
@@Londoncycleroutes yeah that would be great, I have a baby pigeon outside mine currently, the meds are in wimbledon, still not done it, I did gmaps when I got back from Hampstead last night, and the A219 up from Putney Bridge came up - no thank you! Yeah from anywhere, Victoria, Westminster would help, obv not Clapham as thats another massive hill. But thanks for this route, I walked to Estelle road last night, Grafton Rd was QUIET!!! Got mixed up with the Camden Bridges so veered left, down st pancras way & rejoined on the crescent from this video, but savoy street is a bit steep for me, & the strand was EMPTY & now much smoother. Trafalgar square roundabout was hectic so I got home via Whitehall instead on Green Park, but yes, there is no infrastructure where I live compared to rest of route x
Fantastic as ever. I just wonder if on certain occasions (maybe 3 or 4 times in total) you could flash up the map again (which you show at the start and the end) with your location, just to give an indication of where you are? I bet most of the videos are viewed by people who already know exactly where you are, but for us out-of-towners it would help. Keep up the amazing work!
that's a good idea, I'll see if I can make it work... I'm a bit worried about adding too much stuff that could slow down production as I struggle with the production schedule already but a lot of people have requested similar stuff
@@Londoncycleroutes Fair enough, I have no idea how much time/effort goes into this sort of thing. Maybe after a few more vids I’ll just become familiar enough :-) Keep up the great work, I hope you hit the big time ;-)
Could you let us know how you’d get onto Red lion st, like if you’re coming from blackfriars bridge? As it looks like a great alternative to get to kings x instead of going via farringdon but from streetview it looks like all the roads around it (like high holborn) don’t have cycle lanes?
Yeah, to be honest the options aren't as good south of Holborn at this alignment, but if I am for some reason going this way: going south I usually dismount through the passage past the Wetherspoons (the passage is called Great Turnstile), then Lincoln's Inn fields, Serle Street, Carey Street, Bell Yard, all of which are fine... then a very short bit on Fleet Street which is less fun, and cut through the hotel courtyard at Old Mitre Court (which is fine but you have to dismount to get past a traffic barrier) and then use the backstreets to get down to CS3 on the embankment via Temple Avenue... I don't think it's quite 'video quality' to be honest. another way is through Middle Temple which is semi private and closes its gates on the weekend and after dusk
Hi great video as always! I've recently moved to London as a student and these videos are great for me to understand Londons great cycling infrastructure better. Are there any good bikes you'd recommend for a student like me? Nothing too serious or snazzy, just a decent commuter bike to get from A to B. Thanks
Good question! honestly I'm not really that knowledgeable about kit, but a few things to consider - will you be commuting in smarter work clothes? if so get something with mudguards - where will you be storing it? if you have to take it up stairs try and get something lighter like a road bike - do you want to ride on unsurfaced paths? if so get something with chunkier tyres It's really a matter of preference... I ride a specialized allez which is probably a bit sporty for London to be honest, but I like it! I've fitted it with puncture proof tyres (schwalbe durano plus) which I really recommend. sometimes I wish I had a more upright dutch-style bike though as they can be a bit more chilled to ride
Yeah I mean mostly I’ll be riding on cycle paths and roads so I feel like a road bike would be best, however my student finance doesn’t quite cover the budget for a decent road bike😅 however those puncture proof tyres seem like a good shout I’ll definitely have a look at those.
It was great to watch this video, in part, to recall / enjoy my old commute, having recently moved to France - many thanks for the great content!
Thank you for watching and glad it brought back memories!

@@Londoncycleroutes Thank you for your upload.
Is it just me that gives a little cheer every time we go down Midland Road? Love seeing it pop up! Would like to visit in person.
I love to hear this, because I was worried that I go down it too often haha! I’m starting to scrape the barrel with historical facts about it a bit
Genuinely enjoy virtually cycling down there on my recumbent!

Great to hear, I hope it goes well!
Would love to see Chiswick to Westminster
the gap on kensington high street is basically impossible to bridge without going on it I think

Yeah agree on that - Kentish Town still has some nice ones but so many have closed even since I was there!
Tonight's nap is going to be nice =). What is your usual commute, Joe? Keep it up!
I’ve had a few but currently it’s Brixton to Westminster! very speedy
@4:51 RVC on the right. Can you believe that when it was founded it was created north in fields outside London!
how London has grown! IIRC I think the flats next to it were some of the first council housing, built by the vestry of st Pancras
Loving these videos, thanks very much! Would you have any tips for getting from the KT end of Royal College St to Archway, without following the A400?
