my gosh i would like to more of footage, her handstand was amazing too bad the camera didn't capture all of its, her salto so in control and her score was not judge right but again the games were just testing grounds, and later in 1975 winning the american cup in new york and shocking the soviets by winning 1975 champions all and europeans championships in norway giving the world a warning of changing the sport into the future what nadia loves doing simply gymnastics and making herself a true champion by breaking the score board and storming 1976 olympics games and loved by people around the world
I could not have said it better! By the end of 1975 with just 13 years Nadia was the favorite to win the 76 Games. The Soviets knew she was a treat to their dominion, specially Kim that came second ti her in 75 Worlds. Is impressive also to point of how much Nadia evolved in a very short time. By 1976 Olympics she was so polished, her movements where so sure and confident. And just to end, this is not taking into account that some of her routines, like for ex. her FX was downgraded because a small injury on a foot. She was suppose to have a double back in her 1st pass like in 76 American Cup. Again, is amazing to keep finding this pure treasures of the Golden Age!

Eug Cost Yes! Nadia carried that weight of 76, the Perfect world vs the USSR machine. But we most not forget that even so Nadia represented this on the eyes of the Western world she was also part of the machine. Romania was communist and they used some of the same techniques to mold the girls. For a Nadia in 76 this was not a big deal because she was doing her job and helping made her country proud.
This is a great routine, especially for its time, and the Comaneci salto is still rated highly in the Code of Points. However there have been plenty of routines since then that have exceeded the difficulty Nadia showed here. Double salto dismounts and single bar releases were increasingly common from the early 1980s.
Nice try but they moved the uneven bars far apart during the 1980s, making the Nadia era uneven bars a completely different sport from modern gymnastics' uneven bars. There is no doubt Nadia would have mastered uneven bars in modern settings and with better quality materials just like how Nadia's floor and balance beam and vault routines would be "better looking" with the trampoline spring floors, balance beams with springs and padded coverings, and huge and wide vaults with modern springs in post-Nadia modern gymnastics. Simone Biles would be nothing if she used these old antiquated dangerous equipment like the women used in the 1970s and early 1980s. Simone Biles' World Championships are a joke also. The anonymous and obscure MORGAN HURD won the all around at Worlds in 2017!!! What an insult it is to claim that Biles' Worlds medals are anything but quantity over quality. Until 1991 Worlds were every 2 or 4 years while now they are every year except Olympic years. Mary Lou and Szabo would not have been able to do their 1984 Olympics bouncy floor routines on the hard floor of 1980 Moscow. Those ridiculous trampoline springs in 1984 L.A. were a joke and a cheat code.
I agree. There's been too many changes to gymnastics, particularly UB and FX to compare today's skills with vintage ones. However, I would like to time travel some gymnasts like Chusa, Sanne or Simone to see how they would fare on older equipment out of curiosity and take a few like Mukhina, Shaposhnikova and Shushunova forward. Other gymnasts are of course available, they're just who came to mind :) I'm guilty of it myself but I try to appreciate both eras separately even if aesthetically I do prefer this period.
