The funny thing is that he likes the whole techno, club, and House type music scene, yet by the sound of his voice you would think he listens to talk radio... I've been subscribed to his channel for years now. His mouth may move slowly and quietly but his mouse cursor and hotkeys are a mile a second!
The "background services" tweak was a temporary band-aid for old PCI RME cards back in Windows XP days. Since they fixed it there's no need for it anymore and it's best to leave it if you want to avoid issues. Recommendation not from me but from DAWPLUS of XI-Machines.
First thing to do is DISABLE all other audio interfaces! Particularly integrated audio so that windows will not load in the drivers and create additional DPC latency! Disable Wif and Bluetooth as well. Best is to go completely offline
that was my first thought when i he was switching everyting to 44.1, why not just disable all onboard everything if youre using an external sound card? but then i had my hdmi sound giong through a tv without knowing and decided to play an mp3 while i was busy recording with lots of plugins on my sound card, it didnt do anything to the recording, no pops or clicks, so it can handle it but then when im playing solo with nothing else turned on, it will randomly pop and click, i suspects its more background services ffrom windows like their antimalware thing that randomly turns on kind of has that pattern. That being said someone else mentioned that upgrading the speed of their ram let them lower the buffer without audio pops and clicks which makes me suspect its ram sensitive and thats where youre performance benefits come from in audio recording - ram speed, not necessarily cpu speed, if you notice your cpu is never 100% maxed out before it starts popping and clicking, something elese is bottlenecking it, and not surprisingly with a million things going on in windows it happens.
@SadowickProduction Thanks for all these tips! @7:04 I think you make a big mistake by choosing "Background services". That means that your DAW will not receive the most attention/resources. And i think that your audio interface/its driver is also considered a foreground program, not a "background service". Not entirely sure but it might worth a bit more documentation. Thanks, once again and wishing you all the best!
I never understood this one either. But yea, I looked it up and this tip comes directly from Avid. It’s on the Avid site and written in the installation guide that comes with Pro Tools. Of course they don’t explain why. Maybe Windows associates plugins as background services because, if you think about it, without plugins you’re basically just streaming shit tons of uncompressed audio all at once which more taxing on your audio drive than your cpu. That’s the only reason i can think of. It’s a weird one.
I had always understood it that audio is considered a background process when the computer comes from the factory. Other things such as email and office and word and those types of things are considered for ground services there for your computer pays more attention to them then to audio which is considered a background service. By switching it to pay attention to background services you're thus paying more attention to your DAW
Thx so much...i've bought a brandnew Laptop with purchasing Ableton on top. And i heared plops & plops over and over. Now i can do the things i wanna so without dropouts. Thx!

Setting Hibernation to off will NOT remove the enormous SSD space reserved for it. You should disable it via cmd command, found in other videos/webpages
Not music related but still a caveat to be aware of: on some machines with an NVIDIA GPU, Windows will unexpectedly crash when it pulls and installs the latest NVIDIA driver via Windows Update. The OS then entered an endless reboot cycle, and is it so turned out, there seems to be a problem with NVIDIA's driver in the moment. My workaround is untested as of yet, but I am going to install without internet connection, then disable automatic pulling of drivers as outline here - www.laptopmag.com/articles/disable-automatic-driver-downloads-on-windows-10 - then install all drivers manually, and install NVIDIA version 378 of which it is known to be working. Just a little heads up if you are going to fresh-install Windows 10 anytime soon. AMD and Intel are not affected.
External or PCI e audio interface with there own drivers is best and computer set to performance mode. windows sound off and power setting set to never but display 10 mins especially if using TV as monitor.
also look up core parking,,,we use it in game dev alot. It unlocks parked or un used cores or your CPU and can stop out of cpu issues,,,,,also game frame rates go up ;-)
In regards to the sample rate, my audio interface defaulted to 48000kHz @ 16 bits in Windows device settings. However, most DAWs seem to default to 44100kHz @ 16 bits or 24 bits. I'm having a difficult time trying to understand which sample rate and which bit depth is ideal to set system-wide. Will dropping down to 41000kHz affect other applications? (games, etc)
Thanks so much for that tuto! I followed each step you mention here but i still have issues with my saffire pro 40 firewire on windows 10. even if i changed the default sample rate in windows sound control panel, it still changes automatically and randomly and make blinking my audio interface (FW active and locked). So when I open Pro Tools, i always have the same message : "asio device properties have been changed by the device control panel" and the software crashes. My Firewire driver and my Mix Control app are up to date... I disabled windows sounds and all the other audio device (Nvidia, etc). If you have any more tips to help me, it would be so great! Thanks again
I remember using Traktor Pro 2 and S4 with Win 7 and I couldn't get it to work when playing live. I got weird cracks and pops randomly when playing. After trying all kinds of tweaks I eventually bought a Macbook pro and problems were gone. I dont think Win 10 has these problems with DJ software anymore, am I right?
I”m a musician. Ikve recently found out that I need to be able to switch off “Turbo Mode” and “Connected Standby” in reg edit within Windows.Without the ability to do this, any Windows laptop will be of no use to me, due to the constant power grabs that these codes are used for. If I cannot turn off Turbo mode then I will get clicks/pops in my audio/and constant “throttling” . I need maximum (or near) power resources going to my Cubase/Logic/Ableton software. According to info received, Microsoft have completely removed the ability to do this in it’s latest 2014 software update. Do you know a way around this prob? I believe the new software just gives you a “slider” labelled something like More-Less! This is a big problem for audio professionals using DAWs. Any help would be v much appreciated! Do you know if this latest update has put this application back? Desperate find out!

Why go with 16 bit CD Quality sample rate instead of 24 bit or 32 bit Studio Quality? Genuinely asking since I don't know the technical; differences or the pros/cons of each specifically.
