Did you have the same experience I had playing Valkyrie Profile? Do you think that the game wants you to BE Lenneth? Sound off in the comment section .
I don't know about you, but I always feel this deep connection with every VP lover. There is this incredible story/game that touched us all in one way or another, and everytime i find someone else talking about the game i cannot but smile. Thanks so much for this awesome video. You can feel the love for this game in every single word and videoedition. I enjoyed it A LOT; and you can be sure i'll watch the VP2 one, whenever it comes out.
Me too! When is the VP2 video out? I love VP because you get a glimpse into all characters stories and all of it is so sad and also beautiful. It's a game about people and life and it's done poetically. ❤
Such a wonderful game. You can tell the devs put lots of love into everything. To me, its rare to find a game that have this level of storytelling and dark elements.
I was 10-11ish when I played Valkyrie for the first time. The same age when you still go outside and play pretend. Lenneth recruiting the Einherjar broke me. Llewellyn not coming home. Nanami having no home 😭
One of my ABSOLUTE favorite Rpg's (and games) I've ever played. I was a junior in high school when I played this hidden gem. The artwork, the game play, and that goddamn story. I have gone back and replayed this game 4 or 5 times over the course of 20 some odd years and it never ceases to astonish. I'm really glad a new generation gets to appreciate it and all its wondrous glory! Well done-- and I'm excited for you to dissect VP2
Excellent video. Better than many I've seen with 100k+ subscribers. I hope you continue to make superb ice-burg kinds of videos in the future especially of the Valkyrie Profiles!
Great video! I only wish you could've expanded on (there's a lot, I know), the turns the "Bad" route takes if you go through with it. I find it very fascinating how full of lore the B-exclusive endgame dungeons actually are, how you can actually kill Brahms, then carry on with your mission without batting an eye as Freya suggests (orders) killing Gandar solely to recruit him for his powers, then you purge another kingdom that had turned itself to undeath to "escape the cycle" (Lorewise, this is a quality of undead, including Brahms and other notable enemies) Sure, the ending is a downer, but knowing what the "A" side entails, it's fascinating to see how many signals that stuff is wrong are actually present in the ordinary route.
I actually had some more B route lore in one of my drafts lol. But the video is already over an hour and I wanted it to have more of a focus on its main story. Maybe one day in a future video.
Yeah, it makes sense. Even the final exchange with Surt is very telling. They only exchange few lines, but they are so utterly charged with such powerful vitriolic contempt for Lenneth you can't help but realize he may be actually right about something. Now Surt is supposed to be a huge deal in Aesir lore, a giant that even gods are afraid to get close to, but Lenneth? By then Lenneth is (unfitting comparison I know) the VP's Chara, a heartless soul-harvesting killing machine, as Genevieve (of all people) and other B-side bosses point out. Unburdened of empathy, compassion or any significant memories, decked up in the biggest, baddest artifacts pilfered throughout all of midgard, backed by Odin's own limitless reserve of wealth, spellbooks (and more artifacts he sends down, why not), not to mention herself being a goddess, AND followed by her choice pick of the strongest einherjars on the whole planet - well, add all these together and the math doesn't look pretty even for Surt anymore. In a sense, I feel like it's another lore-delivered through gameplay moment how unsatisfyingly easy and hollow it feels to beat Surt, because at that point you "are" the villain.
I just finished it for the first time a few days ago. I made sure to get the A ending and thought it was a very cool and interesting game. I actually played VP2 years ago when it was new and loved it so I always wanted to play the first one too. I also played Covenant of the Plume on the DS though I only got the C ending. I've always been interested in this franchise even though I hadn't played all of it. When I get a PS5 I'm going to buy Elysium as well. This video was a nice summary and helped clarify some stuff so good work!
Hey! I'm glad u liked it! I still gotta jump into VP2 ASAP! I started playing it a few months ago, but my disc was very scratched, and it made my game freeze. Had to order another one.
Thank you so much, man. I played VP when I was 14 and, even if I did my best at the time, I couldn't, for the life of me, understand the plot. Time to play it again at 35, haha. Will buy it right now for PS4.
I loved to play this game back in the ps1 era, for some reason my friends when they watched me thought Lenneth had a cat on her head... I don't think I ever beat the game but remember getting my ass handed to me by Freya when I didn't sent anyone 😂,i remember fighting the green dragon in an ice castle and probably that's as far as I got, I also remember that it took about 30min of prolog before getting to the 1st time save was prompted and actually started to the game. After watching both vids I really want to play it again ❤
Thank you so much! I'm very happy that u liked the video. It took a couple of months to put together, so it makes me super happy that you enjoyed it. And don't worry. I have more on the way soon. Currently recording footage for upcoming jrpg videos. 😊
After playing the game two times getting both the B and A endings my impression is that Odin is actually afraid of humans, being half human himself he is fully aware of their potential. Given how we have examples of characters like Gandar and Lezard, both of them having ambitions of godhood and Lezard being proven correct of all his theories regarding how to achieve it, we can see Odin's fears are not unfounded. It's probably the same reason why he sealed Loki's power, fearful of the power a Vanir-Aesir mix could have. It's kinda like Cronus in Greek mythos, he usurped the power for himself and is now afraid someone would do the same to him so he sets up all sorts of plans and contingencies that ultimately prove to be the reason for his downfall.
I think we need a complete edition for this series. A single disc with all the games in the series or something. Overall great video. BTW how hard was it to get the A ending I saw the requirements for it and thought it was a lot
I agree 100%. It would be great to have all the games in one modern collection. To answer your question. Getting the A ending is very cryptic. But THANKFULLY, I have a full guide on how to get the A ending and how to generally play the game. There's a link in the description of this video, and it has timestamps 🙂. Thanks for watching!
Hey, great video. Valkyrie Profile is a sadly overlooked, especially when it comes to the great story. I treat it and VP2 as an integrally bound duo storywise (never wanted to pick up the unnecessary third game covenant). One thing I'd argue about your interpretation however is that I see no evidence of the cyclical nature of time that you refer to. I don't get an impression that Ragnarok is something that happens over and over with the world getting remade anew each time. I'm pretty sure that the world just moves through stages as normal with empires rising and falling according to their natures and outside interferences, that Ragnarok is a one time deal the the 9 realms have been leading to since the very beginning. Should Odin have won then he would truly be the ultimate power with near full control into the future but this is not something he has already done over and over, all previous warring was just relatively small potatoes when measured against true Ragnarok. One thing that is cyclical in this series is simply the reincarnation of mortal souls which is why characters such as Arngrim can be seen in different ages, they are simply reincarnations of their previous selves. In VP2 you learn exactly why Odin does not accept Arngrim into Asgard in VP1, Arngrim pissed Odin off in his previous life 200 years ago. I hope you have or get around to playing VP2: Silmeria sometime

I do think that while it is really interesting the way most people will experience the game by doing a B ending run first and eventually figuring out the A ending route i would much rather prefer the A ending be less cryptic and be a true NG+ sort of thing to unlock. The A ending is SOOOO much better and you get to experience so much more of the game I doubt most people who have even finished VP1 have done an A ending run. And when it comes to recommending people this game I think most people will recommend they play through it with an A ending guide which I think is definitely the better way to experience the game (the B ending route lacks a bit of story) but it does take away some of the magic of the experience. I dont know i feel like the A ending should be automatically baked into the game so it always triggers on a 2nd play through.
True, and your comment makes me wonder if I should've treated this like a follow-up video because I DO have a guide in another video 😂. The link should be in the description box of this video.
My apologies. I know I've been absent from this channel for a long time now. Life stuff kicked in 😥. I've also had very little luck finding a good ps2 copy of Silmeria. I bought 2 copies in "good" condition from ebay and both gave me issues. After researching online, I found out that many produced copies were very sensitive. Any small scratch will damage the entire game and render it unplayable. As a result, I've been diving much more into emulation. Nice video and all but one thing about this game, is how easy it is to sway an audience to bullshit. "A ending" can only make sense if you ignore "B, C ending" and half the main plot and background of the game. Once you open "A ending" the writers reject the very foundation of the myth, it is taking inspiration from, to form a fairytale that is pretty self-defeating. I like the motif, the music, characters, and all, but story suffers from a problem that has proved to be a major lit. flaw for many Japanese writers-- the interjection of modern Japanese sensibilities. True this has been going on since the mid to late 90's, and what was bad then is horrid now. It is telling that, it was in even good games and a lot of people fail to see it. Lennith can't be herself AND Platina, since Lennith is a SOUL. The game points it out itself. And placing Lennith into a mortal body doesn't erase the soul enhabitanting the body, as pointed out in Pt.2. The ritual just allows the Asir soul control, while the mortal soul is place to sleep (as shown in Pt.2). So yes, it makes sense to have a seal on Lennith if she is super empathetic-- to protect her from the imprints of human memories. You literally have to ignore this fact for "A" to make sense, or it vindicates Freya-- since Midgard was destroyed. The very thing the Asir were preventing. I understand; the crossing of views to create a new fairytale is to be inspected-- that's a big part of creativity, but that doesn't excuse doing homework. Just cause on myth also has a reincarnation rule does not mean all are the same. Lastly "A" ending is literally the 2nd telling of the Ragnarok, but they replaced Thor with Lennith. There wouldn't be this giant logic derp, if they just added Thor. Also @SmallSprite: The Asir aren't fascist-- they do not, nor want to, take over the jobs and businesses of the human world. Thanks for making this video for one of my most favourite games! I enjoyed it alot
Freia says dont cry for a human they can rebirth anyways, but she is crying for Odin anyways, what a hipocrite.
The Asir don't return unlike humans. She literally says that and the game points this out like -- I believe -- four times.
ending A is a masterpiece.

Thank you so much, man. I played VP when I was 14 and, even if I did my best at the time, I couldn't, for the life of me, understand the plot. Time to play it again at 35, haha. Will buy it right now for PS4.

Funny to think that none of that story would ever happen if Frei knew how to shut up and not leak Odin's plan to mortals.
You have to send Lucian in chapter 5 or 6 so he can catch Frei during one of her gossip moments 😂.
You crushed this video man, good job
I always love Lezard says Mystina is a threat. He recognizes her power. She Lorenta and Jelanda were my team for a while. All with mystic cross.
I just finished Elysium, I didn't even know it was a fully series
I really loved this video and would love to see you do more videos on JRPGS.

I hope that one day tri ace makes valkirie profile Hrist.
Fingers crossed!

My body is ready for VP2 this game needs to come back to new consoles and the DS spin off: Covenant to the plume. I really love this Lore
Fun fact, Platina is the Swedish name for Platinum.
Not just Swedish. This applies for most western languages.
Must be derived from Latin
My 1st experience with this Series was Covenant of the Plume on DS
I have it. But I haven't played it yet. I wanna go through VP2 first.
Awesome video I loved it
thankyou from 39 years old man

@@smallspritetv neat I'll be watching that next then, keep up the good work I'd like to see you cover the entire series at some point!
I'll do everything possible to cover the series. I have a long backlog but I should be able to cover it in the upcoming months. 🙂
great vid
Hey, great video. Valkyrie Profile is a sadly overlooked, especially when it comes to the great story. I treat it and VP2 as an integrally bound duo storywise (never wanted to pick up the unnecessary third game covenant).
One thing I'd argue about your interpretation however is that I see no evidence of the cyclical nature of time that you refer to. I don't get an impression that Ragnarok is something that happens over and over with the world getting remade anew each time. Fun Fact: Lucian and Brock from pokemon are voiced by the same person in English.
I really wish that Netflix would somehow turn this game into a live-action.
