I don't buy green labels, because I want a complete book. I love buying purple because they are great books at insane deals! Congrats on grabbing that book. Very cool.
The 0.5 blue label actually eliminates the relevance or defeats the purpose of the grade point system (yes, I'm going to piss some people off here.} The grade point scale is a system where each number assigned to the book is based on a very strict set of criteria to measure specific defects. Giving ANY book, no matter it's condition, one universal grade, simply because a part of it is missing, nullifies the number all together. Instead of giving it a 0.5, give it an INC or NG in the white box. Not all incomplete books are created equal. Like you mentioned, a 0.5 missing a value stamp is not equal to a 0.5 missing a centerfold. The 0.5 also disregards any other defects or lack thereof within the book. This is why the qualified green labels are better for me. I'd rather know that my incomplete book presents like a 5.0 than a 2.0, but if both options were in a 0.5 blue label, I wouldn't have anything to verify that, other than my eyeballs. I get it. People like what they like. I mean, some people stick with blue labels because their OCD doesn't want different color labels, and that's fine. But I believe the overall perception that blue equates to more value is the reason why people lean to it. But again, where does this perception come from? Perception of value often times is perpetuated by followers, rather than free-thinking consumers or investors making choices based on their own autonomy or personal preferences. They are simply focused on asking the question, "what gives me more value?" And instead of being investors that change the market one way or another, they follow the status quo.
I look for presentation value, regardless of the colour of the label. If purple or green, bonus, get a discount and sometimes a better presenting copy...To each it's own..
I really love the idea of a green label on Hulk #2. So much so, I think I might marry the last page just so I can send my copy in to CGC and get that qualified label. Cheers!😂
Thanks for this video. Labelism is one of my pet peeves. Especially with purple labels! One shouldn’t avoid all purple labels. There is such a wide range in extensiveness and quality of restoration. But they all get the same shade of purple. Also, CGC does not give a purple label for tape, which is sooo much worse than professional tear seals for preservation! Conservationists are perplexed by the desires of comic collectors. Another example: removal of restoration. This is bad for the preservation of comics and makes them look uglier - why would people do it if they didn’t think that it would increase their profit? They get more profit because of labelism!
Some people are like that it bothers me on my wall I have plenty of yellows but my ocd says blue only unless I can fill it in yellow which I can’t yet 😂

@@comicjourney it’s like asm 238 I might be wrong but with the tattooz I was tempted to go green, but I couldn’t do it. Now thankfully if I was to sell, I would make a decent return. But me personally knowing it’s missing would stress me out after buying. Don’t get me wrong I’m not made of money, so I would rather dream of owning a certain book, instead of getting a green or purple label. It’s what makes my books so special to me when I eventually get my grail. But that’s me everyone’s opinion is what makes them happy and that’s all that matters 🤟🏼
Green labels offer much more useful info. You're told what the books would have graded at but for the missing coupon. You can have a universal 9.0 book, 7.0 book, or a 1.0 book and then remove a coupon, making them receive green (qualified) 9.0 and 7.0 and 1.0 labels. But if you ask CGC for blue instead, you get the 0.5 label for all of them, which is not informative regarding overall grade of book. I would rather want to know which book would look better in hand (or is structurally more sound), so I could choose between a 9.0 vs 7.0, or vs a 1.0.
I'm not uptight about green labels, it just depends on the book and the nature of the flaw. I know my Hulk #181 would get a green label because it's missing the MVS(and it would be lucky to get a 3.5 in any case) but it has sentimental value because I got it for free from my cousin when he gave me his comic collection when I was a kid in the 80's. I would happily take an affordable F.F. #48 missing a coupon, because it's the only issue I'm missing from #7 to #400. Every comic is just a placeholder until you can afford an upgrade.
I wish CGC would just send my books back w/ the correct labels. I have 2 books in their mechanical errors pile and have yet to receive any timeline when I will be getting them back. I actually called to ask how long M.E.’s take and was told “Well we can’t tell you, sorry.” The quality control at CGC is a joke. I submitted 8 books, 1 being an Australian Magazine Spiderman edition. 3 of the 8 had wrong labels. They were all witnessed signature series books at Megacon, not only did they come back w/ Blue labels but only the magazine had it noted 2 names written in marker on cover. They really need to tighten up. Swag great job w/ the channel. I enjoy your state of the state approach to comics.
Mid and high green labels are fine. If silver they’re good. I’d rather have high grade green label over a .5 man. And purple is totally fine in golden age. And ok for silver age keys. I’d take the green label on most keys. You get good value especially if the cover prevents well
Value lies within the individual not within someone else’s personal beliefs/objectivity 75% of people would be happy to just own the book graded or not
This feels very much like a 9.8 vs 9.6 scenario. Long story short, I’d be willing to overlook a grade and/or a label color if I felt said graded item looks great in its slab. 👍
I think as time passes the stigma of the colored label will diminish. I have no problem picking up restored and qualified, as long as the book presents great. (Buy the book and not the label lol)
It really does depend on the why, if it’s PC or if your a vendor or retailer or if you want to get a sig or whatever. But there is a stigma on green/purple labels. Great call out !
Depends on the reason for the green label. If it's due to a pre-existing signature on the book, the green label is not such a big deal. But if it's due to missing pages, cut-out coupons, etc., the green label is a much bigger deal.
#preach. I agree. If it's a CGC slab that got denigrated for a signature, I'm cracking it and sending to CBCS. Otherwise, if a book label is green or purple and it's generally rare and the grade on the label makes it 2nd highest graded or better, I don't have a problem with it. But aside from that, it's important to be conscious of how much less they sell for and why. Things like staples getting a green are just plain stupid. If an original element of production is likely to cause damage to the actual paper (the part we actually read), it should be replaced and it shouldn't be penalized.
I've got a green label 8.5 181 that presents beautifully. I would take that any day over a lower grade that has color breaks, faded cover or piece of the corner torn off. I am never going to open the case to see the missing value stamp so seems silly to me.
A 0.5 should never be a green label. If it's a 0.5 in a green label, it's a darn 0.5 in a blue label! Makes no sense. lol. But, I would take a green label 3.0, or 5.0 any day over a blue 0.5. Green is my favorite color, too. lol.
Good video at a good time. Just bought a raw copy of ASM 238 without a tatooz. Super cheap, only 20 bucks but wondering if sometime in the future sending to GCC for a green label.
My first cgc experience was after I got some Batman books signed by Jim Lee. I didn't know that you were supposed to immediately go to the cgc booth after getting them signed. I went back to the con the next day and thats what they told me. I ended up submitting them to cgc anyways because they're for my PC. Yes they came back with a green label, but I have my COA and theyre for me so yea lol
I think today the word "scarlet letter" is kinda spot-on when describing green labels. But I also think as time goes on and blue labels continue to pass beyond the reach of most collectors, the green (and purple) labels will become more widely accepted. So while I think most collectors turn up their noses to green labels today, I think there will be a day in the next 10 years or so where people will regret not picking up green labels of big keys and minor grails when they were available for relatively cheap.
Most comments are saying that a missing MVS gets a 0.5 unless green label. I’ve seen a CGC 1.8 blue label with missing MVS, and a CBCS 3.0 for a missing MVS. Also, CGC’s book on grading says a missing 1x1” coupon gets 6.0 max, and a 6x6” coupon gets a 0.5.
It depends why the green label. I have a copy of Spidey 12, volume 2 - manufactured without any staples. So no staple holes cover or pages. It's neat, one of my favorite books, but it gets the green label of death.

Interestingly, if Mickey were to crack that Hulk #2 and pop it in a mylar and sell it "as is" he could get a lot more for it, even with that unmatched back cover. Ethics aside, it IS more valuable as an unslabbed comic because someone will look at it and think with a press and a clean they can pull a 4.0 or better out of it. Many (maybe most) people who buy raw books don't even open the bags to examine the comics -especially when buying massive collections. Buyer beware!
Yeah that’s a great point. Also to be fair, I wouldn’t mind having this raw, but this is the kind of book that might be harder to find raw than slabbed. So really it was just the copy that I came across
I'm not saying younshouldntry to cheat someone, but as a seller when a book is a .5 or even a 2.0, I would thin there would be more profit by being honest about the condition and saving the grading fee.
I would never buy a green or purple labeled book. I think any preference is likely influenced by whether the buyer is primarily an investor or a collector. I believe that true comic investors are far more hesitant to purchase a green or purple labeled comic than a collector who likely values the book beyond its potential return.

Yes,but they're ugly. That old pence price just looks wrong. The post decimalisation ones look tacky.I've only got a few silver age pence copies in my collection and I see them as placeholders, really.
I’m confused. If the book you bought has the wrong back page married to it, why didn’t it be the green label? Did CGC just screw up, or were some palms greased to get the blue label?
Based on my understanding, CGC gives collectors the option to get a blue label with a 0.5 grade in lieu of a green label (with the actual grade). However, CGC will notate the issue so that potential buyers know that the book could have been given a green label if the sender did not opt for the 0.5 blue label instead.
I think it’s fucking stupid that if a useless coupon is missing that doesn’t effect the story that a book is automatically a .5 , it’s not like you can redeem or would redeem the coupon anyway
It’s a designation that the CGC grading company uses to designate that a comic is incomplete - typical examples include missing centerfold, missing ad page or cut coupon. From a buyer’s perspective, missing material that doesn’t affect the story is less objectionable - a missing page that had ads on both sides, for example.
If you have to get into an hour long conversation as to why you bought it and the value then it is not a good buy. I don't care about labels but if you tried to sell me that book for that price I would say no thank you but good luck.
I would never buy a green, purple, or even yellow SS labels. Blue labels are simply easier to price and sell. We all know our tastes change over time, do yourself a favor and get a Blue label. Your future self will thank you later.

Yes,but they're ugly. That old pence price just looks wrong. The post decimalisation ones look tacky.I've only got a few silver age pence copies in my collection and I see them as placeholders, really.
I have Incredible Hulk #2 - since it’s the first green skin it should be considered the 1st appearance, right? 😂
I’ll take $35,000 for it.
I paid 1800 for am asm 3 cgc 4.0 I can't believe an incomplete copy sold for 1200 😂
I have some .5 grade highly expensive books that I could not afford even at a 1.0 😂
I’m confused.
I think it’s fucking stupid that if a useless coupon is missing that doesn’t effect the story that a book is automatically a .5 , it’s not like you can redeem or would redeem the coupon anyway
purple yes, green heck no. Ain’t about that missing page lifestyle. Slap a little permanent marker on the cover, sure why not
Does anyone crack 0.5s and marry and resubmit?
CGC by changing how they identify their comics has literally ruined their credibility. I’ve switched to EGS for a reason.
Anyone else find buying a reader copy of Hulk you can't read ironic?
So basically you just need to buy one of the many loose back covers of Hulk 2 and leaf cast it all together for a purple label 6.0. Pfft. Easy.
I don't know what a green label is
It’s a designation that the CGC grading company uses to designate that a comic is incomplete - typical examples include missing centerfold, missing ad page or cut coupon.
From a buyer’s perspective, missing material that doesn’t affect the story is less objectionable - a missing page that had ads on both sides, for example.
I don't like the dreaded Green Label! Ahhh!
VG is the lowest grade my mind comprehends. Lower than VG is toilet paper
Incorrect. I just got my books back from cgc on one of them was a green label
If you have to get into an hour long conversation as to why you bought it and the value then it is not a good buy. I don't care about labels but if you tried to sell me that book for that price I would say no thank you but good luck.
I think your biased on DC Keys 😂
Why do you say that? I like DC :) but yeah Marvel is more nostalgic for me.
@@Swagglehaus well can you show us some of your DC keys - all I see are Marvels 👍🏽
Totally biased. 0.5 all the way, blue label, and read what happened. If the covers great, get it. It's stabbed so isn't the cover the thing?
Grow the beard out
I would never buy a green, purple, or even yellow SS labels. Blue labels are simply easier to price and sell. We all know our tastes change over time, do yourself a favor and get a Blue label. Your future self will thank you later.
