New to microbiome analysis, should you first transformed the counts into relative abundance before beta-diversity analysis?

Hi, thanks for making these videos, very helpful.I am a little confused regarding the axis of variation and exactly what these mean?So here PC1 explains 30. 34 % of the variation (and explains the most amount of variation) but I don't really get what PC1 is?
