- Newport Sea Fishing on the Mouth of the River Usk behind the Power Station, not too far from Newport Wetlands. The Usk River is known for its Brown Trout, Sea Trout and Salmon Fishing but the tidal stretch, particularly where it joins the Severn Estuary, can produce Bass, Conger Eel, Thornback Ray, Mullet, Whiting, Cod and more.
Thank you for watching, it is very much appreciated.

Hi Gareth super video shame about the rod but some nice conger please don't stop making these super videos you will have to fish easier marks make life easier as i do as I am 72 but still enjoy fishing but still really looking forward to watching your super videos thanks
Thank you Michael, it was a nice little session, despite the snapped rod ha! Yes I'll keep going for now, I'm too stubborn to quit and hopefully there's plenty more videos to come. It's great that you still love to go fishing, long may it continue. Have a good weekend 👍
Hey.
Your videos are far superior to any sponsored videos I watch for sure. Fishing for you is your time, your space and your not ashamed to say it either fair play. But for what it's worth,if you need fishing time without the audience then do it! But I'd rather watch 2 or 3 of your videos a year when you feel like doing them, than them drive you crazy to the point of quitting.
You do you bud.... Keep it up 👏👍
Thank you Michael, that's nice of you to say, I appreciate it. Yes I just love spending a few hours next to the water and any fish which turn up are a bonus. I'll keep going for now and hopefully more videos to come, that's the plan anyway,. No fishing for me this weekend as I have jobs to do in the garden, it grows so quickly at this time of the year. Cheers for watching, take it easy 👍
Another relaxing and real life production. Please keep doing them even if you want to slow down. You’ve an avid following.
Thank you David, I appreciate it. Yes I'll keep going for now, hopefully plenty more videos to come. Enjoy the weekend 👍
Another great video, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s extremely grateful for all the effort and hard work you put in to keep us couch potatoes entertained, I hope there are many many more videos to come.
It’s a shame about the rod, but hey, the only things that last forever are memories, which is why making them is so important, great video as always.
All the best.
Thank you bud, I appreciate the kind words. Yes you're right there, creating those memories is what is important, tackle can be replaced. This particular mark is very special to me, so many stories to tell from over the years, so many great fish. The wildlife is special too, always something to see. Cheers for the support, enjoy the weekend 👍
Your videos are just brilliant, so well put together, you really capture what fishing is all about. The fish are a bonus, but two nice ones there, well done. Keep the videos coming
Thank you Chris, much appreciated. Yes that's right, the fish are always a bonus, I just enjoy spending a few hours next to water taking it all in, that usually does the trick. Cheers for watching, take care 👍
All your vids are entertaining, have enjoyed every one of them... Thanks Gareth, take care fella.
Thank you William, I appreciate that, glad you've enjoyed them. Hopefully more to come soon. Cheers 👍
Thanks for another good video Gareth. Keep them coming!
Shame about the rod but there’s a silver lining to every cloud. Just put a tip ring on it and you’ve got a Cheapy New Boat Rod! Then you’ll catch twice as much!😄
Haha yes, good idea that Martyn, would be wise to have a spare 'Cheapy Old Boat Rod'. Thank you, it was a nice day out at a favourite mark of mine, I couldn't grumble. Cheers for watching, take care 👍
Hi Gareth, another great video. I always look forward to watching my favourite fishing channel on a Friday evening. The rod snapping was a nightmare but at least the ever present congers kept the tips nodding. I hope you do decide to keeps filming, but at the end of the day, like me, fishing is your passion and you must do what is right for you. Look forward to your next video whether fishing or juicing.
Thank you Andy, nice to hear from you as always. Yes shame about the rod, although it made me chuckle in the end. I'll dust off the spare one that I have in the garage, it should do the job. Yes, making the videos is not easy and sometimes I just like to go fishing, leaving the camera at home. Although I'll keep going with the filming and hopefully there's plenty more videos to come, that's the plan anyway. Hope all is good with you, enjoy the weekend 👍
Great video, as always, Gareth. Look after yourself. Cheers and tight lines.
Thank you Nick, appreciated as always. Hope all is good with you, enjoy the weekend 👍
Shouldn't run yourself down it was an enjoyable video as they always are and I for one would miss them if you stopped making them., Well being must come first.
Thank you Loz, I appreciate that. I shall carry on making them for now and hopefully there's plenty more to come. As you say, wellbeing is the priority and I'll make them as and when I get the time. Cheers as always 👍
We appreciate your dedication gareth but you think of your health ,we care ,we can wait ,life first ,u well loved ,take your time son ,mark and maria cdf
Thank you Mark, nice of you to say. Yes I guess our health should always come first, and that's why I fancied a bit of a detox, it's going well so far. Hopefully another video soon, that's the plan! Cheers as always, have a good weekend 👍
you do realise that you'll have to rename yourself 'congers with me'. Great vid again.
Yes you're right there Jeff ha! So many about at the moment, other species are not getting a chance. Cheers as always, much appreciated 👍
Another great video mate shame about the rod keep it up and don't give up on UA-cam it helps me with my depression and anxiety and that was a nice conger
Thank you Kirk, much appreciated. I'm pleased to hear that the videos help you, that's great. I'm not planning on quitting anytime soon and so plenty more to come with a bit of luck. Cheers for watching, take care 👍
Gareth another great video your filming as always spot on the wind doesn’t help you but it adds to the whole atmosphere of your video keep the congers coming and the video,s 👍👌
Thank you Stephen, much appreciated. Yes I guess you're right about the wind, it's all part of the adventure. No doubt there will be plenty more Congers to come ha! Cheers for watching, take care 👍
Once again , spot on ..
For somebody who Is not supposedly not professional I look forward to everyone from the music photography fishing .
Superb mate you deserve so many more views
Thank you Andrew, I appreciate that and I'm glad you look forward to the videos. The wind made this one a little challenging but I guess it's all part of the adventure. Cheers for the support, enjoy the weekend 👍
Love your vides gareth keep up the good work
Thank you Tim, much appreciated. Hopefully not too long until the next video. Cheers for watching 👍
Great watch as always. Shame about the rod, but these things happen. Nice couple of congers. Nothing wrong with the camera work, really good video.
Thank you Ed, appreciated as always. It's a lovely spot, anything can turn up. Back in the 80s/90s it was a great winter Cod spot, those were the days! Cheers for watching, take care 👍
Nice one Gareth mate, certainly not the calmest day for filming, but so glad you managed to catch , I’m sure your videos help many people bud, keep up the camera work , appreciate your efforts 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you bud, appreciated as always. Ha yes that wind was gusty at times and I was glad I managed to get a video done. A nice little session at a beautiful mark, I couldn't really complain. Cheers for watching, take care 👍
Good, honest, relaxed, enjoyable, light hearted entertainment. Always a pleasure to watch. Thank you for doing what you do.
Thank you Jeremy, I'm pleased you enjoyed the video. This particular spot is unique and the wildlife is usually on good form. Cheers for watching, much appreciated 👍
Well done Gareth top video again, like I said before if you fancy a few hours out on the boat for something different your welcome, keep them coming mate👍
Thank you bud, appreciated as always. The wind was a bit of a nuisance but other than that it was a nice day out. Cheers for the offer, I might just take you up on that one day! Enjoy the weekend 👍
Another top video Gareth, don’t get yourself down about your filming fella it was quality as always.
Nice couple of eels made the session.
Shame about the damaged rod, time to treat yourself to a nice new one me thinks.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you Richie, that wind was a little challenging but I just about managed to make the video ha! Yes the Congers kept me busy as per usual, they definitely follow me around, it's all good fun. Cheers for watching, enjoy the weekend 👍
Hi Gareth hope all is well mate, hope to see a video soon 👍 off to Brixham with the family Saturday so really looking forward to catching so nice fish 👍
I'm good thanks Andrew, I've been flat out with work of late and not done much fishing, should be back at it soon. Hope you have a nice time down in Brixham and may the fishing gods be with you! Cheers 👍
Nothing wrong with the filming at all Gareth , I love listening to you anyway but must say you did look cold .
Thanks Mick, I appreciate it. I think all of my videos are rubbish but I'm glad you enjoy them. Yes that NW wind was a little chilly, I must admit, you wouldn't think it was June ha! Enjoy the weekend 👍
Once again a great watch Gareth, nice couple of congers too 👍
Watching this sat in my caravan up near Trefor in North Wales hoping the wind drops so I can get out fishing in my sib, here’s hoping 🤞
Thanks for sharing it with us bud,
all the best 👍
Thank you Nigel, appreciated as always. Yes the wind is a little strong down here too, blowing a bit out there. I hope you manage to get out on your sib, the fishing up that way seems to be quite productive, I wish I lived closer ha! Cheers as always, tight lines! 👍🐟
Hi Gareth another great video mate, sorry about the rod but many years ago i had a ABU BEACH CASTER and it snapped so i put an old river rod top section in side the break. And i still have it to day.All the best Paul.🎣🎣
Thank you Paul, much appreciated. Nice one, glad you managed to save your Abu. I think this one is beyond repair although I'll give it a go, will see what spare tip sections I have in the garage. Cheers as always, take care 👍
Hi Gareth yet another stunning video from you.
Unfortunately rods have a tendency to snap from time to time ..
Its all part of fishing..
Keep making these stunning videos . mate.
Keep yourself safe and well mate
Thank you Wayne, appreciated as always. Yes that's it, I suppose we have to expect these things to happen, it made me chuckle in the end ha! Hopefully plenty more videos to come... cheers for watching, take care 👍
Nice video Gareth despite the elements being against you. There`s not many blokes who would end a session with a smile after a rod snapping and having to contend with high winds, but you seem to manage. I always like to see you pulling in the old Congers and sometimes feel a tiny bit envious as there isn`t so many where I fish. Good luck and hope the bank balance hasn`t taken to much of a hit with repairs or replacements.
Thank you Gordon, appreciated as always. Ha yes it was one of those days, I was quite surprised that I was still smiling at the end! The congers kept me busy as per usual, quite a few about at the moment, this mark can also produce some nice Bass on the right day. Thankfully I have a spare rod in the garage and so I can use that one, it should be ok as it's the same as the one that broke. Cheers for the continued support, take care 👍
Hi Gareth , try to go to easy marks and give yourself a break really enjoy what you do .cheers Tony
Thank you Tony, I might just do that, the knees are starting to creek a bit now ha! Cheers for watching, enjoy the weekend 👍
Lovely video mate and some great views, all the best to you and all the family 👍
Thank you Carl, nice of you to say, I appreciate it. The same to you and yours mate, have a good weekend 👍
Unlucky with that rod but at least its a reason to buy a new one. Great video as usual
Yes very true that Luke, you can't beat a bit of fishing rod shopping! Cheers as always, much appreciated 👍
Great video Gareth, something therapeutic about them… the cheapie boat rod is always of interest as it always seems to come up with the goods. Keep the video’s going Gareth, they are always enjoyed and give me enthusiasm to just get out there and fish. Some more health tips would also be good chucked in, given your experience with the old smoothies.
Thank you bud, much appreciated. I always try to make the videos as relaxing as possible, that's always my priority when filming, the fish are a bonus. Yes I've been thinking of doing some more health/wellbeing related videos, I guess it all comes under the same umbrella. Juicing/smoothie making is another passion of mine. Cheers for the support, enjoy the weekend 👍
Another great video Gareth.
Watching has been a great video to end the day. I woke up this morning to find a video that had downloaded from my daughter in law of my 9 week old granddaughter who was born st 25 weeks. She has had major struggles but has now left Neonatal ICU for High Dependency , a major step forward..
So two two brilliant videos to top and tail the day.
Take care Gareth.
That's great news Jeff, a step in the right direction and let's hope this is the start of her new life, sounds like things are progressing well. Thank you, it was a nice little session. I love this particular spot, it's magical and it can fish well on the right day. Enjoy the weekend, take care 👍
Thanks
Evening Gareth, thanks for the video 😁 Absolutely love the way you honestly describe how you are feeling and the trials and tribulations of making these videos- you have to laugh sometimes or you’d cry 😂 especially with the rod. Don’t put pressure on yourself too much, you know when you’re enjoying things and when you’re not and we’ll all look forward to when you do get out there 😃 Nice congers and thanks for describing the mark and the conditions. I don’t know much about where you fish and i always find myself looking at the map afterwards to see where you were 😂 Hope you can shift the bug soon, this year a few people i know have had it. Onwards and upwards, look after yourself too and thanks again for making me smile 😊🎣
Thank you Andy, I appreciate that. Yes I guess I just say it as it is, making fishing videos is a challenging to say the least, although it's a nice feeling when the filming is finished, knowing you have a video done. This particular mark is a special place, the wildlife is very impressive and there's always something to see, the fishing can also be good on the right day. I'm feeling much better thanks, I've finally managed to shift whatever I had, hopefully no more illnesses for a while ha! Hope all is good with you, have a good weekend 👍
Unlucky with the rod but another enjoyable video gareth thanks
Thank you Andy, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll dust off the spare rod tomorrow ha! Cheers for watching 👍
Top video nd Some nice congers mate 👌 keep em coming 🎣🎣🎣
Thank you bud, I appreciate it. Yes the congers kept me busy, they often save the day ha! Cheers for watching 👍
Never a good sound of a snapping rod, gutted for you bro, think Cath will treat you to a new one lol! cracking vid as always brother, see you on the rocks xx
Thank you Matt. Ah yes I was gutted as it was right at the start of the session, although I ended up laughing about it ha! Yes definitely, about how she treated me! Although she bought me a rod a few years ago and I ended up snapping that one too 😂. Cheers bud, see you out there 👍
Hi Gareth mate well done on another cracking video and sorry to watch you break your rod..it happened to me down the knap a few years ago absaloute gutted... Hope your keeping well mate have a lovely weekend..I look forward to watching your next video
I'm doing ok thanks Nathan, hope you're well mate. Ah yes, I can see why you were gutted when your rod snapped down at the Knap, never a nice feeling is it, especially as we look after them. I've got a spare one in the garage and that should do the job. Thank you, hope you have a good one too bud, enjoy 👍
Cracking vlog Gareth nice touches in-between shame about the rod hope you keep doing vlogs it's a lot better than the tv
Thank you Dave, appreciated as always, nice of you to say. Yes the rod broke early on in the session which made things a little tricky, although it was quite funny ha! Hope you had a good session last week. Have a nice weekend 👍
Some nice Congers and shame about the rod. Keep the videos as many of us enjoy them and I am 60 this year and cant get out as often as I would like through health and these keep me going. All the very best
Thank you bud, I appreciate it. Yes the congers kept me busy, they usually save the day for me ha! Hopefully I'll be making many more videos, I'm not planning on stopping just yet. Cheers for the support, take it easy 👍
@@riversidewithme Hope you can get the rod repaired or a new one soon. Tight lines
@dm51964 Thanks bud. I've got a spare one in the garage and so that should hopefully do the job. Cheers 👍
Nice one Gareth. Shame about ya rod snapping. Good luck with ya detox.
Cheers Carl, I appreciate it. Thankfully I have a spare rod in the garage and so I can use that one. Take care mate 👍
Nice video Gareth and very entertaining , Conger gods looking down on you again and they saved the blank, Did see your chesil beach video pity you were under the weather and the weather was not so clever but a few nice fish to start off with before you were forced to abandon proceedings, Hopefully on your next visit there things will be much better, I only fished there once many many years ago but only managed to catch a few spider crab , but that's my luck, Look forward to your next video stay safe, Cheers.
Thank you Philip, much appreciated. Yes shame about the Chesil session, although I'm looking forward to returning late summer, will hopefully be a different story then, with no illness ha! The Congers saved me again during this one, lots about locally at the moment, they like the mud flats because there's lots of crab to feed on. Cheers as always, enjoy the weekend 👍
Great video Gareth!
Thoughtful and beautiful.
Really enjoyed watching it twice.
One thing though, as a 46 yr old man, I am still fit and have recently become a competitive judo black belt.
Fully believe in good quality food and regular exercise. Hoping for a long an active middle age and would recommend the exercises promoted by Iron Wolf on UA-cam if your looking for fitness and health.
Keep up the great work!
Thank you bud, much appreciated, glad you enjoyed it. Well done on becoming a competitive judo black belt, can't fault that. Yes I agree with you there, so important to look after ourselves and I guess a good diet, along with regular exercise is key to our longevity. These marks don't get easier and so I want to be in decent shape for as long as possible. Thank you, I will check out that channel. Cheers for watching 👍
Rhossili/Llangennith beach always a blast down there
Ah yes I love Llangennith, I've not fished it since last Autumn. Cheers 👍
Top video mate, gutted about the rod! Hope ya better soon, take care and look forward to the next one 🎣
Thank you Scott. Yes I had a feeling it would snap, as the wind smashed the tripod into the pebbles a few weeks ago. I'm feeling much better thanks, hope all is good with you bud. Cheers as always 👍
Hi Gareth
Your style and the way you fish and why you fish is unique , In my opinion it’s not about sandy marks , or marks where you catch the mainstream, you put your soul in to fishing I’ve learnt so much from you,
Pl.ease keep them coming ,As you get on in life as I’ve learnt age is in your mind , I’m still 19 in mine unfortunately my body say you wish
Keep going
Regards
Al
Thank you Al, that's nice of you to say, I'm pleased that you have found the videos useful, good stuff. Yes you're right, there's beauty to be found in even the so called less popular marks and this place is very special indeed. Ha yes I'm the same, I also think I'm many years younger than I actually am, that is until my knees start to creek ha! Cheers for watching, have a good weekend 👍
Alway a good video 📹 brilliantly put together
Thank you Elliot, I appreciate it. Enjoy the weekend 👍
Ye will do out me self tomorrow down north channel Bury port have a good one and stay safe 🙏
@elliotfrancis4187 Sounds good, I'm sure you'll have some good fishing down there 👍
Hi Gareth, I just seen the last two videos you've done, my phone has been playing up it didn't show the notification. Really enjoyed, sorry about the rod we've all been there. Been on the bass plenty of them about. Loads of soothhounds and tope off the beaches,so get yourself down here. All the best from south west Wales.👍
No worries bud, hope your phone is sorted now. Yes it wasn't a nice sound when the rod snapped, thankfully I have a spare one and so I can use that one instead. Glad to hear the fishing is on good form down your way, I wish I lived closer to those places. This particular spot I was at holds some good Bass, my best ever of 12lbs came from there, that was on some Mackerel. It's not as consistent as it once was. Cheers as always, take it easy 👍
Get down Cefn sidan beach near Llanelli some good bass showing up pal nice clean comfortable fishing....👍🏴
Thanks for the info Daz, I'll bear that in mind 👍
another cracking vidio garath hope you never give up the fishing channel mate nice few eels mate alwayes looking forward to your vidios
mate great senary shots as well in your vidio still waiting to have a session with you mate wont get in to your camera when filming when
you going out on the hounds mate pleanty around now mate have had over 30 already mate i love going fishing on my own as well but its
nice to have a session and a chat some times mate till the next one mate tight lines mate
Thanks Andrew, appreciated as always. It was an enjoyable little session, I thought a Bass or two would have made an appearance but I guess that's how it goes, although the Congers kept me busy and were good fun. Sounds like you've had some good hound fishing, well done. We don't get them up this way, Barry is probably their limit, I've had quite a few off the White Light and off Porthkerry Beach. I almost fished down at Newton beach last week but the wind was a little strong, bit stormy and so I stayed local. I'm sure we could have a session at some point, not a problem. Hope all is good with you mate, enjoy the weekend 👍
Nice video Gareth, shame about the rod but an easy fix.
Thank you Robert, much appreciated. Thankfully I've got a spare rod in the garage, I best dust it off ha! Cheers 👍
Gareth as usual superb shame about the rod situation done 2 rods last year woth the tripod falling over . Keep goin as long as u can look forward to your vids with a cuppa
Thank you Gary. Ah shame you smashed 2 rods last year, always gutting when that happens isn't it. Yes I'll keep going for now, I'll keep plodding on ha! Cheers for the support, enjoy the weekend 👍
Great video buddy. Life is pretty stressful for everyone. Your fishing videos are a go to for me, just to knock the edge off 👍🏻 Real shame about the rod. I have just moved back to fixed spools and as a result have a Penn Surf-blaster (multiplier), about 10 years old, in brilliant condition I would be happy to send you. Just let me know.
Thank you Chris. Yes, life certainly is stressful and I'm pleased to hear that the videos help take the edge off, good stuff. I always try my best to make them as relaxing as possible. I've actually got a spare rod in the garage, it's the same model as the one that snapped but thank you for the kind offer, much appreciated. Cheers for watching 👍
As always Gareth rhe effort you put into these videos is much appreciated. Some inspirational music and sayings you added to your photography.
Your the conger king at moment lol but as you say catching fish is a bonus, getting out helps to clear the mind and reminise of happy memories gone by.
Is there a particular way to handle congers? as they can be aggressive at times.
Be encouraged by the comments and take care 👍
Thank you Peter, much appreciated, I'm glad you enjoy the videos. Ha yes, the Congers are following me around at the moment, although I don't mind catching them. The best thing to do is to turn them on their back whilst removing the hook, they hardly move then, it calms them right down and they don't twist and turn, usually works a treat. When holding them, I find that one hand towards the front and one towards the back provides a safe grip, I sometimes use builders super grip gloves. Hope all is good with you, cheers for watching 👍
Another great video Gareth, shame on the rod mate but 2 good eels to save the blank mate. Could be Oggy next for a ray or 2 with a chance of a big eel and some smooth hounds ????
Thanks Marc, the congers saved me once again ha! Yes the snapped rod was a bit of comedy, made me chuckle after the initial disappointment! I've not fished down at Ogmore for a few months now and so I'll give it another crack soon. Cheers as always, take it easy 👍
Good luck with the detox. Shame about your rod, but another great video.
Thank you Mark, I appreciate it. Thankfully I have a spare rod in the garage and so I can use that one. Cheers for watching 👍
Another awesome video Gareth mate and it's a bit of a bugger that your rod broke but on the plus side you had fish so no blanking mate👍🎣
Thank you Simon. Ha yes I was a little gutted when that rod snapped as it was early on in the session but I just about managed to use it, quite funny really! Cheers for watching, enjoy the weekend 👍
well it does happen Once or twice in a blue moon mate and take it easy and have a good weekend mate👍🎣
@@simonjenkins3618Cheers bud 👍
Nice video Gareth pity about the rod
Thank you Gary. Yes it was a shame, thankfully I have a spare one in the garage. Cheers mate 👍
well done mate nice vid again
Thank you Pete, I appreciate it. A nice day out at a favourite mark of mine. Cheers for watching 👍
Hi Gareth not a bad day mate apart from the broken rod that is, hope it wasn't an expensive one mate.
Yes it was good to be out there Alan, despite the broken rod ha! I've got a spare one in the garage, it's the same model and so that will do! Cheers as always 👍
Another good honest relaxing fishing video. As others have said, please keep sharing these with us. We’re lucky to experience them!
Thank you Ben, I appreciate it, glad you enjoyed the video. I'll keep going for now and hopefully plenty more to come. Cheers for watching 👍
I like the music you use Gareth.A lot of the fishing vids on YT the music is atrocious. Dont sack off the vids.A lot of us enjoy them. It's just as good as being there.
Thank you bud, I appreciate it. I try my best to match the music to the venue, it's actually quite tricky to do, although enjoyable at the same time. I'll keep going for now and hopefully plenty more videos to come. Cheers as always, take care 👍
Love the videos, recently started filming my own sessions just for memories and anyone else who is interested in watching thanks to people like yourself 👍👍
Thanks Wayne, glad you've been enjoying the videos. Good luck with the channel, nice to create those memories isn't it. Cheers 👍
Morning buddy!!!
Just got back in for a bit of brekkie & a watch of your latest video....another great job!!
Those congers really are a blessing, much like the old dogfish....saved many a blank!!....Im like you, I really don't care what's about, it's all about getting out there & enjoying it!!
I'm certainly with the others & hope you don't pack in your filming, you really do bring a smile to a lot of faces mate....I know it's tough & the work just continues when you get back home with editing/ mixing etc...My escape was recording country music & posting it on here, I ain't no singer but it got me through chemo & dark times, but it's hard work.
Anyways buddy, back to the 'grindstone'....those hedges & borders won't cut themselves!!
And by the way, 44 ain't old!!!....Ha!!
I'm 60!!!
All the very best to you....look forward to your next masterpiece....Jon.
Hi Jon. Ha yes I've caught so many Congers of late, although I can't complain as they often save me! Lots about at the moment, I think they're feeding on the small crabs close in. That's it, just nice being out there isn't, the fish are a bonus for me nowadays, just taking it all in is what it's all about. I'll keep making the videos for now, I'll keep things ticking over and hopefully there's plenty more to come. Ah right that's interesting, so country music was your escape, I can see why you used it to get through the dark days, well done for getting through them by the way! Good luck with the hedge trimming, I'll also be doing the same today...a month on after the last cut and it's back to normal! Cheers for watching, enjoy the weekend 👍
Great video again mate I was shocked when you said your 44 definitely don’t look it hope your detox goes well and keep those video’s coming or there will be a lot of upset watchers out there shame about the rod can you repair it or have to get a new one have a good weekend and look forward to the next one from down west
Thank you bud, appreciated as always. Haha, it must have been the camera angle making me look younger, or maybe there's something in the water! The detox is going well thanks, I get hungry at times but it's all good. I don't think I can repair that rod as the break was a bad one, although thankfully I do have a spare one in the garage. Hope all is good with you, enjoy the weekend 👍
Quality edited vlog as always Gareth! Shit happens with rods mate normally reels for me Tight Lines and Di Awn
Thanks bud, much appreciated. Yes I've managed to break a few over the years ha, these things happen as you say! Cheers for watching, take it easy 👍
Hi Gareth I am 63 years old and just took on fixing up a boat to go out fishing, I am disabled and my advice is do what you love it will come through, my You Tube channel will be the first real videos that I have ever done, at forty I thought I was unstoppable, so just do what you love now or you may not get the chance later, I lost both my parents when I was young and lost two of my brothers in the last few years, do I miss them, not really as they are always with me, so walk with your god and listen to the advice in your head may be someone trying to tell you something, my ones don't shut up so Fish on lad, Fish on.
Yes I think you're right there Jim, life certainly is short and I guess we should make the most of it while we can, before those knees start to creek too much! Yes the people you have lost are most definitely with you, they are the wise ones which is why we should listen to them. Good luck with the boat restoration, hopefully plenty of fishing trips in front of you, sounds great! Cheers as always, enjoy the weekend 👍
Well done. Tried that spot and didn't get a bite 😂
Thanks Mark. I wouldn't worry, I've had a few biteless blanks down there myself ha! Cheers as always, take care 👍
Gareth now is the time for a few hounds down port talbot
Yes I'll probably give Morfa a go soon, often get a nice variety of species down there.
Another great video Gareth. As others have said, please don’t give up making these videos, you’re doing brilliantly, though I can imagine it’s an awful lot of work, and may take the edge off the enjoyment of fishing for you at times. I watch loads of fishing videos by a lot of content providers, and yours are by far my favourite, my wife loves watching them too. Your relaxed, down to earth, caring, honest style is a breath of fresh air. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to make videos perfect, it’s just nice to watch your fishing experience as natural as possible, snapped rods and messing up your words and all! If you ever do give up making these videos I think a lot of your followers will want to join you fishing sometime to keep in touch, myself included. Keep up the great work mate.
Thank you Maurizio, I appreciate the kind words and I'm pleased that you and your wife enjoy the videos, that's good to hear. Yes that's right, making them is a lot of work, although it's nice at the end of the session knowing that another one has been made. I'll keep going for now and hopefully there will be plenty more to come. I'll get out the tide book and will work out where I'm going next. Cheers for watching, take care 👍
Thanks for sharing mate, yuck hate those bloody ugly fish haha. Keep going mate, and hope your summer months give good fishing. Maybe a trip to Scotland will see bigger fish, hear the pollock up there give good fishing. Cheers : brian in nz.
Thank you Brian. Yes hopefully the summer months will produce some good fishing further west, I'm looking forward to hitting the Gower marks. I might get to fish Scotland one day, although I'd need to save up ha! Cheers for watching, enjoy the weekend 👍
Brilliant video my Gareth, lovely scenery bud, I'm sorry I haven't been on board lately, I've had a lot going on, Lost my eye to cancer and I've really been struggling with my mental health, all clear on my scans now so happy days. You cheered me up no end, keep on plodding brother, stay safe and God bless you and your family 🎉
I'm sorry to hear that John, I can't imagine what you must have gone through. Good news that you're all clear now, hopefully you can get on with your life as normally as possible, I wish you all the best. I'm glad the video cheered you up, hopefully plenty more to come. Look after yourself, have a good weekend 👍
Hi Gareth, the filming was brilliant as always, it must be physically and mentally exhausting, working, fishing, and filming. You really do need to look after that cold. Looking forward to the health videos. Take care love, have a nice weekend 🤗
Thank you Patricia. Yes that wind was on the strong side and it was difficult to film but thankfully I got the video done! Lovely place and it's just nice being there, the wildlife is often on good form. Hope all is good with you, take care 👍
That's what I call a very nice day out. Cracking video Gareth 👌👍
Thank you Leighton, It certainly was a nice day out, I couldn't complain. This spot can fish well on its day, a variety of species can turn up. Cheers for watching, enjoy the weekend 👍
Lovely video as always Gareth lovely scenery bad luck with the rod but a couple of fish a nice bonus keep up the good work look forward to the next one.
Thank you Steve, appreciated as always. It's a beautiful spot, there's always something to see and it's just nice to spend a few hours there. Cheers for watching, take care 👍
Great video as usual, shame about the rod and wahay you didn't blank with some nice conversations .Well done matey 👍.
Thank you Christopher. That wind was a little tricky but thankfully I managed to get the video done ha! Yes I was gutted when the rod snapped, although I've got a spare one in the garage that I can use. Cheers as always, much appreciated 👍
@riversidewithme if ever you are around the Loughor area let me know, I have a 13ft diawa rod in good condition you can have.
@christopherbroad Thanks Christopher, a kind offer. The spare one I have is the same as the one that broke and so it should do the job 👍
Hey Gareth, Hope your feel better this week than last.
Gutted about the rod being broken.
At least you managed to get a few casts.
😂 time I went out my rod got shut in truck door 😢.
I know that area breilfy but where is best to park then walk to.
Cheers, mate
Top vid
I'm feeling much better thanks Dale, almost fully recovered now. Yes shame about the rod, especially as I liked that one but there we are, quite funny really ha! I park outside of the wetlands on the grass verge, then follow the footpath to the right of the wetlands carpark until you reach the bank of the marshland, there's a wooden telegraph pole and that's where you climb down, then keep walking right until you arrive at the mark. It's not an easy walk and probably best to check it out first before you fish it, so you can get your bearings. Cheers as always, take it easy 👍
@riversidewithme yes always like to have a good look at a mark before fishing so will be doing that.
Thank you for giving me the advice.
Take it easy mate tight lines
Some great quotes, music and scenery shots yet again Gareth. As somone else has messaged……..you should not feel pressured to put videos up. Just do them when you feel like it. I would rather watch a cpl a year than none at all. Your style is unique Gareth 👍
Thank you Paul, I'm glad you enjoyed it, much appreciated. I love this spot, it's magical, like a different world, it's difficult to explain. Yes I'll continue to make the videos as and when I get the chance I guess, 2 a month is my target. Hope all is good with you, take care 👍
another chill out fishing vid gareth yep those congers are a banker against the blanker but like you said our blessed wales has a lot more to offer than on the bottom fishing for those ole standards so go west young man the tope are calling . ok a broken rod what a pain but hey new rod new chance to christen it with a monster fish on vid keep em coming TIGHT LINES
Thanks bud, it was a lovely day out at an old favourite mark of mine, many great memories and many great fish. Yes shame about the rod but I ended up laughing about it ha. I knew it would snap, a gust of wind slammed it into the pebbles a couple of weeks ago. Yes I'm looking forward to giving the Gower a go, not been down there for over a year. Cheers for watching, take care 👍
Nooooo!
Not the Conolon?!😢
I’m gutted for you breaking that rod. I have one almost identical.
Cracking video as always
Thankfully it wasn't the Conolon David, it was the other one. The Conolon seems to be bulletproof, hopefully it will stay that way ha! Hope all is good with you, cheers for watching 👍
@@riversidewithme thank goodness for that 🥳. All my best shore caught fish have succumbed to the mighty Conolon- other than Bass (AFAW 4+ bait for those)
Biggest beast was a 16lb Thornback from Pwllheli and many other fish over 10lb. Many a ten plus conger.
New rod time then.
Have you anything in mind yet?
@@riversidewithme could be a good video? Choosing a rod is a big decision with so many variables that are personal as well as being forced on us.
For example, a flatfish or light rod isn’t particularly suited to strong tides or rough ground conditions.
Sounds like you've also had some good fish on it, cracking rod. That 20lb Conger I caught a couple of months ago was on the Conolon, dealt with it with ease. The spare one I have is the same as the one that broke, one that I designed and built a couple of years ago, nice blank and similar to the Conolon, it should do a good job 👍
Nice video gareth asham àbout the rod some nice fish keep them videos coming Lad
Thank you Philip, much appreciated. Yes it was a nice little session, I couldn't complain really. Cheers for watching 👍
Just carry on doing what you do , that's why I am subscribed to your good self . Get yourself on the good grub , and buy a few extra toilet rolls .. Thanks for the very entertaining video , which you made rather snappy...😂
Haha very good Andy, it certainly did make me rather snappy 😂. The smoothie reboot is going well, although I'm a little hungry today, will all be worth it though. Cheers for watching, enjoy the weekend 👍
Another absolutely cracking relaxing video Gareth thanks for sharing and as always love the nature around you. P.s looking forward to the smoothie video for ideas and especially if you could show the view from your back gate. Stay safe
Thank you John, appreciated as always. It's a lovely spot in fairness, something very unique about it. I haven't been filming my smoothie cleanse but I am thinking of doing more smoothie and juice videos, will be like the old days ha! Cheers for watching, enjoy the weekend 👍
Great vid as usual mate shame about the rod 😢
Thank you Sion, much appreciated. Yes it was a shame, thankfully I have a spare one that I can use, it's the same model. Cheers for watching 👍
Hi Gary I fished just left of where you had your 20lb conger last week wee had a 12 And a 7lb daytime.fishing it again tomorrow it's a 10.22 high tide so perfect.i have access to the gates to drive straight to mark 7pm arrival for us if you fancy a big one let me know I can come early if you want to do scenery it's a bit of a pain with gates and cow ropes so you need two people fish on your own next to us we won't bother you up to you but it's perfect tide and time for a giant
Nice one bud, glad you managed to get some nice ones last week, can't fault it. I love that spot, one of my all-time favourites. Thank you for the kind offer but I can't do any fishing tomorrow unfortunately as I'll be doing some jobs for my mother. Hope you have a good session, should be some nice fish about with a bit of luck! Cheers 👍
Bad luck about your rod. Is it repairable or time for a new one? A couple of nice Congers though. Hope you are able to shake the cold or whatever bug you have. Have a great weekend. Take care.
Thank you for the donation David, appreciated as always, very kind! I don't think the rod is repairable unfortunately but I'll have a go. I do have a spare rod in the garage and so I can always use that instead. I'm definitely over that illness, feeling my much better now. Hope everything is good your end, have a nice weekend 👍
Another amazing video Gareth. Shame about your rod .
How is the detox going so far.
When will you be next at the gower
Thank you Robert. Yes the detox went well thanks, managed to get through it ok. I'm not sure when I'll be down the Gower next, it depends when I get time as it's a fair distance from me, soon hopefully 👍
@@riversidewithme thanks for the reply mate and yes it's a fair distance from you.
Maybe if you wanted to meet up near your end of where you go fishing and fish together sometime.
Great video gaz fished that exact mark umpteen times u mentioned the walk, did u park down Farmfield lane walk along foreshore. We used to park by the old bell ferries bottom end Corpach road up on the old railway line to alpha steel cut across to the yachting club easily catch 20 good size eel, plenty nice bass in the warm water inlet for the power station, that would be 40yrs ago gaz Jesus were my life gone lol any thanks for bringing back so many good memories fishing with my late father rip pop.....cheers gaz Ave goodun..🏴👍
Thank you Daz, much appreciated. Lovely spot isn't it, one of my all time favourites. Sounds like you have some great memories of fishing that area and no doubt you have many great stories to tell. I parked outside of the wetlands on the road and walked via the footpaths through the wetlands and then down onto the marshland behind the power station. Cheers for watching, take it easy. 👍
Good watch go a bit further west and you might get something different although those congers always a decent size. I'm out tomorrow going to Brighton eastern arm i will let you know how it goes
Thank you John. Yes further west should produce some different species, particularly along the Gower coastline. Good luck tomorrow, hopefully you'll have some decent fishing, I'll look forward to the report. Cheers as always 👍
@@riversidewithme couldn't wait until your next film to tell you how i got on two plaice that were just under size a school bass and a really decent dover sole reminded of the one you caught when i first started watching you. Much love
@johnweekes8497 Good session John, can't argue with that! Always nice to see a dover sole, lovely looking fish. Well done 👍
yet another great video but how easy is this mark to access cheers
Thank you Mark, much appreciated. This spot is not easy to get to. I've been fishing it for years but I still get lost on the way back as the reeds are tall, especially at this time of year. It also requires a 25 minute walk but it's not easy. There are much easier places nearby, with no risk of getting lost. Cheers 👍
Gareth are you down by the old lighthouse to the left
Yes that's it Royston, not too far from the wetlands, right where the mouth joins the Severn estuary. Cheers as always 👍
Them's the breaks 🤕
Yes indeed! Good job I have a spare one, hopefully that one won't snap ha! Cheers 👍
Please don't give in utube u are really good at filming and i really injoy you're vids so do a lot ov other people so keep up the good work from south wales respect as always 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you bud, I appreciate that, nice of you to say. I'll keep going for now and hopefully plenty more videos to come. Cheers for the support, enjoy the weekend 👍
Mate I’d watch your videos if you posted videos of the same location every week
That's good to hear Ryan, much appreciated. I try to mix up the venues but it's not always easy, due to work etc. Cheers for watching 👍
looks like the conger fishing is better where you fish on the welsh side a fish is a fish gareth have a abu rod that i dont want would rather it goes to a good home needs tidying will over tenby way towards the end of the month if you want it
Haha it seems that way Paul, so many about at the moment. Thank you for the kind offer, although I have a spare rod in the garage which is the same as the one that snapped and so that will be ok. Cheers for watching, much appreciated 👍
Just back into fishing after 10 years away. I fish with my father in law now 73 and myself at 53. We are not as spritely as we were 10 years back. What easily accessible marks do you recommend.
There's a few that spring to mind. Goldcliff and St Brides are two Newport marks that are easily accessible...park up, a very short walk and a big area to choose from. Then you've got Penarth Pier and Cardiff Barrage. The Knap at Barry is fairly straightforward, although you're standing on pebbles, parking is above the pebble beach. Porthcawl pier too, fishing off flat concrete and parking close by. There are loads of marks but the ones above are some of the easier marks, in terms of accessibility 👍
@@riversidewithme Thanks Gareth. I have seen your St Brides videos and really fancy giving it a go. We have done the barrage and Penarth sea front. Haven't tried the knapp but we fished Friars point. Got a nice codling a couple of weeks ago there. Will let you know how we fair. Thanks again for the info. Keep filming Bud. They are top viewing
@johngrumpsgaiger1250 Thanks bud, appreciated. Well done on the Codling
That rod looks in a sorry state keep your eye out for a blank
Yes it was a nasty break. Thankfully I've got a spare rod in the garage, I'll dust it off tomorrow ha!
Hello Gar, so nice to have time to thank you for the great films you've posted lately, by far the most real and sincere fishing channel on youtube. Beautiful intro with the cello music and throughout the video, very melancholic and evocative too.
Who was the stone marked Douglas -X for, any ideas?
I was worried to bits with the thumbnail about a snapped rod, I was hoping for it not to be the cheapy old boat rod and hooray, it wasn't.
That rod is legendary and should one day be handed down by you to a loved one who'll use it and catch as many fish with it as you've done, hopefully. It's a hall of famer rod.
The beach caster can easily be replaced, the cheapy old boat rod can't, long may it live, yet again another conger on it.
Your films always relax me, they are therapeutic mate, and I'm not blowing smoke up your ...e, they really do.
By the way, good luck with the detox, I go for the full "tox", meat, butter, fats and some veg, not forgetting a copious amount of red wine, but it's all a state of mind imo. 44 is not middle aged mate, it's 2/3rds aged, I'm 62 and am hoping for at least another 20 out of the game.
Keep up the good work mate, it is much appreciated as the comments prove, have a great weekend and wishing you all the best in life Gareth. I tell my mates that you are an unknown fishing mate of mine 😂.
Ps. Don't be giving up the channel, you would be sorely missed, although you make sure you do what is best for you.
Thank you Steve, nice of you to say, appreciated as always. I'm pleased to hear that you've been enjoying the videos, I've managed to fit in a few sessions of late. Yes I would have been gutted if the cheapy old boat snapped, although thankfully it seems to be bullet proof, hopefully I've not jinxed it! I suspect the name on that brick was referring to a house type as part of a residential development, usually get 4 or 5 house types per development, I used to print the drawings. I'm sure you'll get another 20 years, the red wine will no doubt keep you going ha! I don't drink much these days although I have been enjoying the red wine this year, I like a nice merlot. Might have a bottle when I finish this cleanse, I'll treat myself ha! I won't be quitting the channel anytime soon, I'm too stubborn to quit and so hopefully plenty more videos to come. Hope all is good with you bud, cheers for the continued support 👍
come on people hit that thumbs up button and leave a comment and most inportant subscribe to his amazing fishing channel and its all free
Thank you Andrew, I appreciate your support mate 👍
Been different gareth makes us unique as yourself ,as long as we appreciate each other and respect the values of life ,tight lines ,you give hope and inspiration to all ,live long ,mark cdf x
Yes you're right there Mark, I guess it would be a boring world if we were all the same. I think it's important to be your own person and not just follow the crowds as it were. Nice one 👍
