Absolutely stunning! Thank you for posting, because I did not know this composition. It's like having the best of two worlds, the wonderful Norma mirrored through the prism of Liszt's genius! And a fantastic performance of this rarity.
@@AlexAlcyone Thank you for the compliment. The answer is "of sorts". I'm a Professor of History and after a long career have about 10 books and 75 articles to my credit. My specialty is the Early Modern period (1500-1700) and my real name is Marie-Louise Rodén. I am Swedish and classical music is a life-long interest. I plan to take piano lessons again when I retire and have earmarked this as a piece that I would like to learn!
@@AlexAlcyone Thanks again! I'll be 67 in October and in Sweden we retire at 69. Then I will have time to read more books that are not work-related! I have played Petrarch 104 and Funerailles once upon a time, but that was really the limit of my capacity!
The optional cut is original from Liszt, at least it says so on the score. Many pianists skip this part (which is also my favorite) for structural and variety reason. Ginzburg was a wonderful virtuoso and this part would have sounded amazing. Pity 😕
Why mention Jewish Russian?Who needs this information? He is a product of the Russian culture like all we are. We never thought of ourselves as Jewish or Russian or Ukrainian born.
Magnificent! And the structure of the opera is there, with all its profound pathos.
Such sound mastery, deep feelings, a lot of orchestral colours...

This is the most profound performance of Liszt's Norma
Skips the climax - It could have been the greatest.
Ahh, i keep coming here. It's such an awesome interpretation!!
If you had just read Walker's book on Liszt, you would have sought out this piece, because he praises it unstintingly.
Outstanding!
This is how people felt when Liszt played!
Why skip the three hand section
lmao how is this a real account.
how are you listening to this type of music?
Skips the climax - It could have been the greatest.

"Russian-born Jewish pianist" is correct.
