  • Had a short interation with a stranger about electric scooters in Vancouver. He wasn't happy with me even though I had done nothing wrong. He was a good example of the public perception of eScooter Riders. Please ride respectfully and Don't Be A D-Bag.

There is actually an E-scooter rider étiquette. And we really want to do something good for the planet people need to be open minded. They can yell at my E-scooter while getting grocery in their F-150, I can't hear them over my efficiency

Yeah it's a strange human trait. People really don't see what our cars do even to our local area.

@@nicthedoor the way I see it is: legalise it on bike paths and even small streets, set a minimum age 16 or 18 , riders must obey local laws like speed limits. Riders must follow a online training session with a questionnaire prior to receive a certificate, juste like for boats and yachts. Don't put a limit on power because this complicate life for anyone over 175 lbs and that live in a hilly location. To compare a 16 years old can drive a Corvette after getting his license so why would you limit an e-scooter? Here in Québec they want to limit the power to 250w wich is a joke and even a dangerous decision.

@@vwbora26yes, power limits are a joke. If we’re going to electrically govern anything, it should be speed, and even that makes it much harder to properly negotiate traffic.
It’s a lot easier if you need to get across a lane or two of traffic to make a left turn at 40km/h than at 32.
All low power limits do is lead to weak/fat/inexperienced ebikes/scooters wobbling out of traffic lights on any kind of incline while they try and balance until their weak motor can gradually get them to speed.

My biggest complaint about both e-bikes and scooters is just riding full gas all the time, and passing others with a .5km/h speed difference. If someone ahead of you is going much slower, check if it’s safe, and quickly pass them.
If they’re going almost as fast as you, don’t pass.
I’m a fairly fast rider (but not reckless/aggressive) and it seems almost on a daily basis I’m approaching a string of slower moving bikes, pull out to pass, and then an scooter or e-bike swerves out in front of me without shoulder checking, and very slowly passes the other bike(s) over the next 45 seconds, while I either follow, or occasionally end up backing off and moving over while they go 3 wide with oncoming cyclists.
If there’s a significant speed difference, pass when it’s safe. If the difference is small and you can’t pass quickly and safely, just ease up and go with the flow.

Ugh I couldn't agree more. It's about the big picture. All it takes is someone with lots of power to change escooter laws for the worse

Question Whats the difference from a scooter and a bike / ebike.
Like in your video I see you are riding on paths and side walks. I totally agree with you it's on the rider and scooter operator , I've seen some kids/ immature ppl blasting around no due care, ect running stop signs, cutting off ppl and cars with out due care Getting honked at and really impacting the whole PEV scene with a smear. Frankly, if ppl can't adapt or the city/area for commuting is not allowed, etc. What's the option ? . I ride road bike and trust me as you we have been on the road and seen some crazy stuff for sure. I'm now on ebike. And weekend fun/ quick trips to store on escooter. And like you i also get the stink eye. Even though I'm not that guy !!!!!. I follow all the rules and have extra vigilance and duty for saftey for everyone around me. I personally think where ever a bike can go so can a ebike/ scooter within the speed limit/ class ect 20kph/30 or ban it all and put some standard rules. And maybe realistic insurance options ect minimum age is 16 I believe. Anyways great points !!!. Just my 2cents lol..... cheers 🍻

ahhhh so wtf is the point of owning a scooter. to ride in a deserted parking lot or a park????. its no freaking different then a bicycle. those are allowed on city streets

Its a very specific rule. Not on major arterials...
There are many side streets to take. That being said, there should be safe lanes for scooters/bikes on the main arterials.
