Definitely like Hack’s attack type approach. Incorporated his style to my fishing in grass and heavy cover and my percentage definitely went up

Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

Gotta love getting tips from the Flippin master!! I have the 7’3HVY Lew’s Sig Series Hackney rod and I use it as my Flippin stick. It’s definitely one of my favorite rods. Keep the content rolling!!

I only have a 7ft medium heavy fast action and a 7.5:1 spooled with 15lb fluoro and dont use anything for me atleast this for must lures that arent topwater style lures because most of the ponds lakes around me dont have many areas with thick vegetation. The reel is a lews speed spool lfs and i love the rod reel combo. Would you Mr. Hackney ever use this style setup for swim jigs and flipping pitching in certain areas where vegetation may be thinned out or not very thick even in the spring/summer/early fall.

You can definitely get away with that combo. It's an awesome setup to fish with. I would recommend you use braid if you're using a Swim Jig though.

    Great info!!!
I have found that for me, while testing Heavy and Medium Hvy Rods in cover, grass, Lilly pads and stumps/lay downs, the Lew’s TP1X 6’10” Med/Hvy is really more like a Heavy Rod with plenty of backbone and feel and absolutely no problem getting big bass in the boat in these situations. I own several of the Lew’s TP1X Rods and they are solid. I find that for me anything over 7’ that’s rated as Heavy is too long for how I fish and I do fish a lot of shallow water and cover.
As for the 7’ range of Rods, I have found that the Dobyns Colt Series 7’ Heavy Rod has plenty of backbone as well but has a softer tip for a Heavy Rod which I really like for a lot of applications. I was very surprised because I own some of the more expensive Dobyns Rods too and the Colt Series is well under $100 and has performed great and has an awesome feel for an inexpensive rod and gets quality bass in the boat. If you haven’t tried either of these Rods I mentioned give them a try and you won’t be disappointed.

Love your set up but I'm a little bit shorter so I like a 6 8 medium heavy rod with a 1 half once jig always got 6 place on a jig this month

Hack isn't tall, I met him. He's about 5'9. I agree, i can't get used to big rods. My wheelhouse for me 6'9 to 7'3 rods.

So Greg doesn’t recommend his own lews hack attack rod you can buy at academy for swim jigs.

I think that Hack Attack rod was previous years model. He had the folks at Lew’s build this one specifically for his standards.
