I think the reason you have to soak the strip for so long might be the same as the reason why the pH goes down so quickly: the concentration of whichever base they used isn’t very high, because even small quantities are enough to raise the pH, so it lacks buffering capacity.
Regarding the benefit of drinking alkaline water in acidic stomach acid is not that happens in the stomach, from what a chemist friend told me. It is the fact the stomach has to supply more acid to neutralize the alkaline water. It is where the stomach gets the chemicals to add more acid that is important. It pulls acid chemicals from the body leaving a net alkaline state in the body. At least that's what made sense to me. I am an RN since 1983 and studied 2 years of mechanical engineering prior to becoming a nurse.
But when you drink water it doesn't sit in stomach that long to be exposed to stomach acid. It just goes thru quite quickly. Btw, you have good tap water, not only it is slightly alkaline but also it has negative ORP values. This is rare in tap waters.
The difference between the waters , from what I can speculate is the ones that resist the acid are inherently more alkaline , the ones less resistant are just a higher ph .
The alkaline pH, IMO, is achieved by adding an alkaline source. The difference after adding "stomach acid" showed that the brand could be a buffer system (carbonate 2nd pk) or lack thereof. Smart marketing without solid proof for the benefits. One thing's for sure, our pockets leak $$$
I've always wanted to try something like this, so this was satisfying to watch. I obviously wouldn't have scientific instruments lying around, but I probably would have made the same mistake with the pH strips. It's interesting just how different each water reacted to the small portion of acid. Anyway yeah a healthy body is more than capable of maintaining the pH of various regions of the body: stomach, blood, etc. Any minute changes from food or water should easily be reverted to its original balance in a reasonable time frame, that's kind of the point of all of these intertwining systems in the body.
i would have been more interested to see what effect something like 5 drops of stomach acid would have on the water, I imagine the result would have been pretty significant anyway, but 50ml is probably starting to err on the side of more fluid than a resting stomach contains for the average person.
Conclusion: you should drink alkaline water before (15 min) or after (1-2 h) taking food, because it will dilute gastric acid, and digestion will go much longer.
This make think about a thing: When i have acid reflux, i usally drink carbonated water, and it works for me because this causes a reduction of the reflux. Maybe it's related with the Co2 in this water, because the carbon absorb or neutralize part of the acid or something esle? Perhaps you can make a test if you want with different brands of carbonated water.
Who saw the ORP in mv? They were all positive. All oxidant waters. Water is not just ph. Great measure equiment you have? Where can i buy one of these? Great video.
I agree that there is not much benefit in drinking those alkaline bottled waters. We are brainwashed to believe they are better than tap but they are only more expensive. However, if you look at Kangen water, (alkaline, ionized and micro-clustered water from Japanese ionizers), that is a different story. There was research done, on humans, that proves that the ORP (oxidation reduction potential) in combination with alkalinity of the water is the key. It is a huge difference in what the water does in the body, between the water created by ionization (electrolysis) and the one made alkaline by simply saturating the water with alkaline minerals.
I wonder why the drastic drop in all the alkaline waters and the tap water stayed in the relative same range, you'd think tap would drop in alkalinity at the same rate as alkaline. Also, tap is treated differently in different places. Here in Vegas we have some of the cleanest water, yet our levels of haloacetic acid are above average. Would the reaction be equal to that of these results?
Kangen in Japanese means to restore back to origin. Our water we so used to is very toxic and very acidic. Bottle water is very toxic because not only what man puts back into the water supply but what it sits in, which is plastic
Would be interesting to know the pH of distilled water. I've observed that my nails grow very strong when I drink distilled water. Would like to know why.
Very interesting! Just PH is not really much of an indicator. I used to repair video cameras and see water officials testing municipal supplies and found them measuring a Ph of 5. Then they add truck loads of cheapest lime to protect infrastructure. Chlorine only sanitizes at Ph7, every pool owner might find out the hard way. Nowadays councils found cheap industrial vitamin C to reduce the chlorine. Vitamin C is also ascorbic acid so then they need the lime to neutralize it. Carting bottled water around the world is perhaps the biggest environmental crime!
I used to test these with pH strips and it would read neutral. I didn't know the pH strips don't work well on these. So I assumed the bottles weren't alkaline because of the strips. Reading the ingredients I can see they added potassium carbonate and potassium bicarbonate which make the water alkaline.
@@sci-inspi OK, I see. I didn't realize you used pH strips first. And yes, I would have expected them to work fine as well. However, there are pH strips made specifically for surveying water samples.
They’re only alkaline through a chemical change. Which is adding sodium bicarbonate. Real alkaline water cannot be bottled and sold nor does it have ingredients on the back. That’s why there’s a huge difference between alkaline vs alkaLYZED water. One is a chemical change the other is an electrical molecular change💧⚡️
Ah nice! Now if someone was ingesting alkaline water cause their favorite TV or movie or music personality does it or said its good for health reasons, would the body simply not secrete more stomach acid to combat it to reach the right acidity the body needs to break food down for the body to process? If it does work that way, you are simply adding extra acid to your system. Either way even if it doesn't work that way at all, those people need to understand your stomach acid does a very specific thing for you to actually live. If you think you are diluting the acid in your body, you are mistaken! This is a great video, sadly those people that love their alkaline water wont believe it. They are like flat earthers, you cannot change their minds once they are set.
Bottle water is nothing but refurbished tap water. Alkaline water you see in the stores is not real alkaline water period. Anyone can make a higher ph alkaline water just using baking soda. Tap water is very full of toxic chemicals and chlorine at the same time. By law tap water must meet government standards to read a higher ph which man put chemicals into the water to allow it to read a alkaline level but soon as you mix carbon monoxide with bottled or tap water watch the colors change to acidic.
