I'd say one of the worst things is how devs (don't) evolve the game. Updates are slow and far apart and introduce very few content and rarely game changing mechanics.This does not attract new players. It's a shame they cut competitive mode.
Is attracting new players the ultimate goal, though? If you want a live service that simply caters to new players, there are plenty of games you can play. Call of Duty, Halo and Battlefield all come to mind. You can either have a small, dedicated player base or a studio that betrays said players.

This game was already amazing when it came out. We are used nowdays to see an alpha version of a game and pass 2 years becoming a game. Really sad attitude for a company. So lets give them some proud for dont selling smoke, and actually selling a finished version of the game on the launch.

I agree with all the points here, but the thing that annoys me the most about this game are the imbalanced map designs (which are easily spawn-campable), garbage team balancing (where you have five lvl 1000s on one team, and a bunch of new players on the other), and the goddamn spawn protection. But even with all its flaws, the gunplay still makes me come back to it time and time again.

Yeah the BS matchmaking is the main reason I don’t play anymore. Was sick and tired of facing 2 level 1000s and a bunch of 900s or 500+s with only lvl 100 or less team mates
I SUPER strongly agree with you with regards of the dev team being in-touch with their community. It is extremely rare like you said to find dev teams that listen to fans on the level that NWA does to their fans. I have a personal story too in which I was being harassed by somebody I encountered randomly in the game on multiple occasions. I decided to file a report, not expecting much, and I reached out to one of the devs via discord too. They REALLY helped me in resolving the situation. I could never ask for anyone better. (Edit) Saw a few comments talking about the bullying incident and wanted to address them: Did I block and mute them? Yes, and I muted them too. That was the first step I took. However they had a habit of going out of their way to find me in other game lobbies just to fuck around with me intentionally. So I took further steps such as filing the report to NWA. Usually I would just block & mute then let the incident slide however this dude was so persistent with going after my skin that I decided to escalate the situation. This was not your typical name calling or t-bagging player.
Can't you just mute people and leave most lobbies? Unless it was ranked or something, but then I doubt they'd be harassing you in rank. I get if he doxxed you or stalked you on social media, but people telling on people on games is a bit goofy to me.
Like you i have a "LOT" of hours in this game it's brutal at times but that's what keeps me coming back , personally i would love to see Larger Map's with more location options like Remote Camps/Forests/Mountain's etc & I'd like more time added as a PVE Player sometimes you are forced to advance to a certain death due to the timer running low.
if they made two spawn points or made it so you dont spawn in the exact same spot it would remove a lot of issues instead of having the bs spawn protection
This game is just addicting and the community is very good. I know it has its flaws, but I keep coming back to it because it’s simply fun! I play MW2 at times, but cants let this game go. I agree with everything you said.

One thing I want is for the security team to have full on humvees like mounted gun and bullet proof windows with heavy armor I think it would be fair considering there’s a technical for the insurgents then again they can replace the technical with the humvee but I don’t know we will see in the future
I have a deep love for Insurgency.. but god damnit stop making us play in a tiny area on these MASSIVE maps.. we need a 20v20 or something like that. Objectives being fought over all across the map, all at once.

I would LOVE it if their can be big maps and then 30v30 or 50v50 players. That would really upgrade the experience to me, I think most maps feel to small and close quarters. When you spawn you can get killed less than a hundred meters later.
That would be amazing but don't think that the game can support that for what it is... They sort of tried going bigger and more open with BAB but it just doesn't work and it runs poorly! maybe the new upcoming project they have will be a larger scale one? that would be amazing to see!

So it can compete with Squad and Hell let loose for example, thats the type of gameplay that would be amazing on insuregency, maybe not THAT big of a map but you get what im saying. Such a great game! I'm a MW convert and a big Domination junkie. Playing Dom Insurgency is so much more fulfilling. The game play is much more strategic and having bigger maps makes it all the much better. Hearing your enemies on voice chat is such a simple but awesome feature. MW2 can go to hell.
I wish more people used voice chat on games. Going back 10 years, MW or Halo lobbies pretty much 95% of the players used voice chat. It led to better gameplay since your teammates actually communicated. Now your average MW2 lobby one person has a headset and usually the only thing they use it for is to share their rap music with the entire lobby.
I wish they continue on their one of the dev's single player project "underhell". it's one of the most satisfying gunplay in a source mod around but the dev abandoned it once he got accepted into NWI.
I just started playing last week and this game is just pure awesome. Already deleted warzone as I have no plans of coming back. Question though, how come my team mates can call air strikes and gunships but I can't?? Lol great review by the way

If this game had ranked game mode with actual ranks that mean something and some actual rewards for progression, it would be the best first person shooter, other wise, it's very fun, but I get tired of it pretty fast

Mod support for Xbox is all I ask, it could literally make this game blow up with new players with minimal effort from devs since theres people that are willing to mod the game with amazing content like ismc and the star wars mods would be sick even if its just for next gen id be ok with it considering Xbox one kinda struggles a bit during airstrikes and other explosions
Ive lost track of the hours I've put into this game but mod wise i never really stray from anything outside of the "ISMC LEGACY" Mods. Adds a lot more weaponry and attachments (tons of community map options as well) that completely evolve it. I mainly just play PVE for the more chill gameplay (and cause im terrible at pvp) but the ability to use any weapon in the game and enjoy it is what makes it for me. Sure theres meta builds, but you can clear full maps just running a Mosin and Welrod and have an amazing time. No denying the bugs and invisible walls that grenades love finding. But still a favorite of mine.
I just got the game, I have to still find my sensitivity spot in this one. On cod I have it really high but in this it seems so crazy sensitive even on a lower setting. I don't care for the spawning with the lack of spawn protection. I do get paired with people who are much better than me in this one so I'm guessing it's not skill based matchmaking.
You definitely wanna go with a relatively low sensitivity in this game! The fact that the game doesn't have a skill based matchmaking might make it a bit frustrating from time to time, but playing domination with the quick spawning and smaller maps will help you with the grind relatively fast! The G3 and FAL are both one shot kill and fun to use, so you might wanna start off with those. I'm creating a tips & tricks video soon and i'm hoping that it will give the new players something to work with!
I just started playing a few days ago and one thing I like is how frequent comms are in this game whether it be callouts, flaming and just casual chit chat at the start and end of rounds. I've heard more comms in my first 3 matches of this game than in an entire week of Ranked Rainbow Six Siege.
The player leveling system in this game is great all weapons and attachments come unlocked you gain a currency for each level you process which is then used on cosmetics

I have 300 hours in Insurgency Sandstorm and loved playing the Original. Your opinions are on par with mine. I feel the exact same way. One of the things I would like to see is the way server creation is changed. Personally it's not a major problem. But for people who are wanting that user friendly experience of, Hosting local server, invite friends from steam UI. Something simple like that. Especially launching a local server with mutators and mods. I would like to be able to host a private in game session with my mates and be able to disable or enable the mods through the in game mod page. Being able to host a server with mods, with the click of a button. Without having to launch the server by command line would be nice.
It's a great game and I do think it's underrated but I wish they'd fix the bots. As a player who only really enjoys CO-OP getting shot through walls, floors, ceilings, concrete barriers, the ground, sandbags literally everything constantly can get very annoying. Getting shot through something is fine and adds realism when done right but in this game its incredibly excessive and often makes absolutely no sense. (They had no way of actually hearing or seeing the player) And of course there's the famous 0.00000001 second reaction time gun pointed at the sky instant kill as soon as they have visual on you. I've seen discussions about this and a lot of players agree with this but so far the devs have done absolutely nothing to fix this. I enjoyed your video by the way. Good review.
This game steals the fun from me due to very bad optimization that required me to use certain boot up commands to make it a bit better for my 144 experience, PVE bots being complete cheaters and stuff that you mentioned. But everything I can say about this game is that I still keep returning to it, huh.
Getting this game tomorrow, honestly after watching this my views are better than before, I got a really good headset so sound design is gonna blow my head off. Graphics look good and now that I know the guns recoil ain't bad I feel happy, especially ttk. Thanks for the help man!

Yea dude I love this game. All I’ve wanted for so long was a hardcore shooter. And this is the best thing I could if asked for. Especially after a few hours and u get used to the mechanics, it’s so so good man. I wanna clip almost every kill bc it’s always as cool and satisfying every single time.
The problem with the balancing system is it balances the match based on number of players in each team not based on level. So, I play with a group of friends but the game doesn't balance lobby's, so you end up with a stacked high level team on one side and low levels on the other....which makes it shit for both teams! The devs need to give is the direct ability to switch with other players on the opposite team
Uneven matches mean you must be the difference in the game for your team and makes you play better and harder and sometimes more natural feeling which is fun
Bad thing about is: not much updates, NWI doesn’t listen to community, removes amazing features from the game, don’t fix old bugs(I have had my mouse bot show up for over 8 months now and I can’t play it)
4:29 actually, the skull masks aren’t that unrealistic. Iraqi special forces wear them fairly often. That being said, they apparently only wore them for promotional photo shoots lmao

i used to enjoy this game, but recently i have not because nowadays i fell like i cant hear walking footsteps at all. yes you shouldnt be able to hear somebody when they are sneaking but you should be able to hear somebody walking right next to you or in the next room like you used to in this game.
Regarding the sound that you said you enjoy and .50 ringing in the ears, try if you haven't already, playing Squad. You will hear the REAL ringing. Airstrike, mortars, IFV's and small arms, all at the same time while you're trying to figure out where are you getting shot from. Immersive.

nice review i could go on for hours about how sandstorm lacks consistent tone/atmosphere compared to 2014 Insurgency with wack ass cosmetics and such, but id be lying if i said i didnt get way more than $30 worth (nearly 1300 hours in the game now). gameplay still holds up (mostly), and its been a lot more fun ever since i upgraded my graphics card i just wish the updates were a bit less lackluster, glasshouse and livewire didnt get me all that excited tbh
Yeah the game is definitely worth the cost atm but it's a shame how little they seem to be caring about the game lately... getting 2 weapons and no maps after months of waiting is a slap on the face...
The ISMC Mod only keeps this game afloat. If they added Singleplayer modes such as Campaign without relying so much on Multiplayer Live Service (Especially on Console because Multiplayer requires subscription which is bullshit and scummy), the game would have a lot of Replay Preservation value just like other game titles that puts a lot of effort in Singleplayer. SWAT 4 and Ready or Not is a good example on how they retained Singleplayer importance while supporting the game with mods.
1st bad thing: I wouldn't say the levelling system and a lack of progression is a bad thing. One of the nice things about Insurgency has always been the distinct lack of progression, you jump in and are on a level playing field with everyone else, everything is unlocked from the get-go and the only thing that matters is how good you and your team are, better team balancing would be nice though. 2nd bad thing: About the bugs, there are many game breaking ones still left in the game. Just to list a few; Smoke and Explosives are incredibly inconsistent, the maps are broken and with the aid of the numerous physics exploits it is possible to get almost anywhere on them, this includes getting under the floor to block obj's and shoot through invisible walls etc. NWI knows about most of these, but the truly massive glitches and exploits often go unfixed even after 5 years of being in Sandstorm, mainly because it'd require more development time than adding 2 guns and a map every so often. About whether they're giving up on Insurgency, they sort of already have. Most of NWI's resources are going towards their unannounced projects and Sandstorm is clearly not getting much attention going off of the amount of content and lack of changes and fixes that the game needs and is not getting. The plan was for Sandstorm to be supported for 2-3 years, and we're on the 4th year with updates being spread thin so that the game has that 'supported' label on it. The update we're on is 1.13, and everything we've seen so far points towards 1.14 being the last content update this game will get. 4:12 - Just to provide a little more info if you're interested. The background image there is a test for Fog, Rain & a Day/Night cycle they did a while back for their upcoming project. They're not planning on adding that specific level into the game as of now, but we have seen a few WIP environments which likely will make it in, as well as this test environment under different weather/time of day conditions. The next game from which these images are will not be an Insurgency title, and it'll be quite different from anything NWI has released in the past, hopefully you like pve;) 3rd bad thing: Agreed 100%, the reason for this is not exactly clear, but following Andrew Spearin being forced out of NWI in 2017 Sandstorm has seen a massive shift in direction from a grounded and atmospheric shooter to something that visually resembles CoD more than its predecessors, which is one of my biggest gripes with Sandstorm and the reason I don't think it really lives up to that Insurgency title. If I had to guess, it was probably an attempt to appeal to the casual audience combined with a lack of vision from NWI, the game has been casualized a fair bit since the release both in terms of gameplay and visuals, likely to appeal more to the generally younger console market. NWI is a different company than it used to be, most developers who worked on the previous title are gone and the company itself was acquired by Embracer a while back, I doubt most devs and decision-makers there really understand the idea of what an Insurgency game is. 5th bad thing - Agreed, mods are a mess and it's largely thanks to mod.io which NWI chose over the steam workshop as it allowed for mods on consoles (which never will happen). About the good things, I agree for the most part. Though I'd say that while the gunplay feels good it is quite bad in terms of balancing and how it translates into gameplay/flow. The low recoil which allows for control of full auto rifles over hundreds of meters is not a good thing when combined with the relatively high ttk for an Insurgency game, the end result is just a full auto meta which is quite different from MIC and Ins2 that I believe handle weapons better gameplay-wise, as semi-auto is much more viable and in many cases the meta. The communication with the devs (or rather, the community staff) is nice, but it doesn't really feel like what the players want is translated into what gets added into the game, just take a look at how competetive was handled post-release, the cosmetics and the general atmosphere of the game, gameplay features such as recoil reductions, the deathcam & spawn protection etc. etc.
Amazing comment and i have to mostly agree! But coming back to the 1st bad thing... i do think it's amazing how all the weapons and mods are open from the get-go but having no progression system and nothing to achieve will get people bored after getting used to the usual firefights and what not! People need goals and without them everything seems pointless. That is why people play so many competetive games like CS and Valorant because in those games the stakes of winning are higher and every round feels important! Thats why people play games like Rust and DayZ because achieving good loot is fun! Comparing the player count to the copies sold in insurgency seems to be supporting that fact as well..
@@JereZiii Small cosmetic stuff like realistic looking camos for weapons or uniforms being unlockable would be nice, something to show you completed x task but not really noticeable unless you specifically pay attention to it. Gameplay elements shoud always be unlocked for all though. I don't think progression is a really essential part of gaming, it can boost playercounts under some circumstances but I see it as oftentimes doing so by detracting from the experience, a game can be good (often much better) without progression just by the virtue of being a good game. You brought up the example of counter strike, but before Global Offensive there was no competetive or progression of any sort outside of community-ran events, yet the series managed to get big, same with Insurgency, and a more recent example would be Squad which is doing fantasticly in terms of playercounts despite being a relatively old and niche game, people play it because they enjoy the experience it provides and not because of artificial goals they strive towards.
I really enjoy this game, unfortunately I don't have good PC to play it so I play on my basic PS4. For me the biggest issue on basic PS4 is low and unstable FPS (this is due to the game, not the quality of the internet), hope they will fix this asap. Second complain can be long loading time. Besides mentioned things this game is awesome.

I have audio sensetivity to high decibles and certain high frequencies (like my ears ringing) I was surprised to find that the sound effect in this game for it actually didnt hurt my ears.
Hours and levels don't matter it just matters who goes on and off of the game and I think insurgency is a very fun game it's just sometimes people are a little to unknown to the world
Ever since I started playing Sandstorm I've avoided PVP at all costs, I think I've only played between 3-5 games and I hardly enjoyed any of them, the PVP parts of the playerbase seems to be filled with fail trolls and really strange edgelords, PVE though is amazing for me, getting off COD I was used to some insanely weak PVE experiences and with Sandstorm, it pulled me out of the mud and put me on the clouds, I honestly think it's my favorite game just cause of the PVE.
Personally I can't stand PVE, it's like playing against children. But saying that I do normally come top of the team. Just got to know when to be quiet, use dirty angles with map knowledge, have good aim and rotate positions after every kill.
Hello. I started playing this game for few weeks now on series S and a 37" LG FHD 50Hz tv set. Optimised for X/S. Well, i really can;t say if the game is good or bad. The only thing i know is that, in night missions, darkening the surroundings with low contrast and low brightness in a dark room this game gives me the creeps everytime!!
the thing that turns me off from playing it is the lack of progression. I dont care about cosmetics, there just isnt much to go back for aside from the occasional run with a KS23
Bought game pass for the first time yesterday just so I could try this game. I am impressed! The sound design is incredible and it’s fun to play a more grounded shooter that isn’t full milsim
bought the game at the start of the year but really started to get into it a few months ago, i can say its one of the best shooters out. It is free on xbox gamepass for any1 wanting it
I mean some of these maps are just terrible map design sometimes. I love some maps and others are literally unplayable. Game modes are pretty lackluster too. Gun play itself is awesome.
I know I'll get flak for this one but my only issue is how op the a.i is on co op mode. These aren't 2012 bots these are 2023 terminator mf's. Like you'll press left stick to run and then an enemy will just appear. I've seen people pressing right stick melee to get them to pop out. That and most of the time your teammates just rush the objective and die or they'll just take up the main lanes where the enemies come. I like the versus mode better for sure
I still playing Insurgency 1, and i can't wait to play Sandstorm someday. The I. 1 is an excellent game and i can't imagine this one. The community is great and even if your team lose, you won't have problems, cause the folks knows how to have fun. If you want to play something that justasks for your teamwork and luck, just play Insurgency 1, which has smaller maps and less mechanics. Even if the maps are the same, every new round new things happens.
Great video! I only partially disagree with one part: the rogue spec ops mask may look unrealistic and ridiculous, but it was worn by Iraqi SOF, so it’s more realistic than the Softshell jacket with rolled-up sleeves.
The game overall graphics, smoothness, gameplay is awesome. But unfortunately the game is dead, the community is toxic… The fact that it only takes one bullet to kill you, people will camp every game. Sometimes the whole server will camp… lacking fun , run & gun. Briefly people will camp unimaginable spots that you’ll have to learn and preFire those spots before entering objectives. If you want my opinion this game is not worth full price for PC gamers mostly because you’ll join the same two games over and over again since the player count committed suicide. I believe that console players will have a better experience since they have no aim assist. Buy this game when it’s on sale. I’ve got (1000+ hours on this game)

It does in some ways! Consoles lack some content that the PC version has but it's mostly the same. There will be a big update soon tho that will make it better for the console players.

Saw a few comments talking about the bullying incident and wanted to address them:
Did I block and mute them? Yes, and I muted them too. That was the first step I took. However they had a habit of going out of their way to find me in other game lobbies just to fuck around with me intentionally. So I took further steps such as filing the report to NWA.
Usually I would just block & mute then let the incident slide however this dude was so persistent with going after my skin that I decided to escalate the situation. This was not your typical name calling or t-bagging player.

Like you i have a "LOT" of hours in this game it's brutal at times but that's what keeps me coming back , personally i would love to see Larger Map's with more location options like Remote Camps/Forests/Mountain's etc & I'd like more time added as a PVE Player sometimes you are forced to advance to a certain death due to the timer running low.
Or a battlefield like large scale maps (while retaining realism)

there are obvious counters to it, however on some maps the zones are extremely stupid.

I would LOVE it if their can be big maps and then 30v30 or 50v50 players. That would really upgrade the experience to me, I think most maps feel to small and close quarters. When you spawn you can get killed less than a hundred meters later.

Such a great game! I'm a MW convert and a big Domination junkie. Playing Dom Insurgency is so much more fulfilling. The game play is much more strategic and having bigger maps makes it all the much better. Hearing your enemies on voice chat is such a simple but awesome feature. MW2 can go to hell.

I wish more people used voice chat on games. Going back 10 years, MW or Halo lobbies pretty much 95% of the players used voice chat. It led to better gameplay since your teammates actually communicated. Now your average MW2 lobby one person has a headset and usually the only thing they use it for is to share their rap music with the entire lobby.
I wish they continue on their one of the dev's single player project "underhell". it's one of the most satisfying gunplay in a source mod around but the dev abandoned it once he got accepted into NWI.

Mod support for Xbox is all I ask, it could literally make this game blow up with new players with minimal effort from devs since theres people that are willing to mod the game with amazing content like ismc and the star wars mods would be sick even if its just for next gen id be ok with it considering Xbox one kinda struggles a bit during airstrikes and other explosions
Ive lost track of the hours I've put into this game but mod wise i never really stray from anything outside of the "ISMC LEGACY" Mods. Adds a lot more weaponry and attachments (tons of community map options as well) that completely evolve it. I mainly just play PVE for the more chill gameplay (and cause im terrible at pvp) but the ability to use any weapon in the game and enjoy it is what makes it for me. Sure theres meta builds, but you can clear full maps just running a Mosin and Welrod and have an amazing time. No denying the bugs and invisible walls that grenades love finding. But still a favorite of mine.

I just got the game, I have to still find my sensitivity spot in this one. On cod I have it really high but in this it seems so crazy sensitive even on a lower setting. I don't care for the spawning with the lack of spawn protection. I do get paired with people who are much better than me in this one so I'm guessing it's not skill based matchmaking.
You definitely wanna go with a relatively low sensitivity in this game! The fact that the game doesn't have a skill based matchmaking might make it a bit frustrating from time to time, but playing domination with the quick spawning and smaller maps will help you with the grind relatively fast! The G3 and FAL are both one shot kill and fun to use, so you might wanna start off with those.

I just started playing a few days ago and one thing I like is how frequent comms are in this game whether it be callouts, flaming and just casual chit chat at the start and end of rounds. I've heard more comms in my first 3 matches of this game than in an entire week of Ranked Rainbow Six Siege.

I have 300 hours in Insurgency Sandstorm and loved playing the Original. Your opinions are on par with mine. I feel the exact same way. One of the things I would like to see is the way server creation is changed.
Personally it's not a major problem. But for people who are wanting that user friendly experience of, Hosting local server, invite friends from steam UI. Something simple like that. Especially launching a local server with mutators and mods.
I would like to be able to host a private in game session with my mates and be able to disable or enable the mods through the in game mod page. Being able to host a server with mods, with the click of a button. Without having to launch the server by command line would be nice.
Yeah my thoughts exactly... setting up a server is such a big pain in the ass that i won't even try doing it..
It's a great game and I do think it's underrated but I wish they'd fix the bots. As a player who only really enjoys CO-OP getting shot through walls, floors, ceilings, concrete barriers, the ground, sandbags literally everything constantly can get very annoying. Getting shot through something is fine and adds realism when done right but in this game its incredibly excessive and often makes absolutely no sense. (They had no way of actually hearing or seeing the player) And of course there's the famous 0.00000001 second reaction time gun pointed at the sky instant kill as soon as they have visual on you. I've seen discussions about this and a lot of players agree with this but so far the devs have done absolutely nothing to fix this. I enjoyed your video by the way. Good review.

This game steals the fun from me due to very bad optimization that required me to use certain boot up commands to make it a bit better for my 144 experience, PVE bots being complete cheaters and stuff that you mentioned.
But everything I can say about this game is that I still keep returning to it, huh.

Yea dude I love this game. All I’ve wanted for so long was a hardcore shooter. And this is the best thing I could if asked for. Especially after a few hours and u get used to the mechanics, it’s so so good man. I wanna clip almost every kill bc it’s always as cool and satisfying every single time.
The problem with the balancing system is it balances the match based on number of players in each team not based on level. So, I play with a group of friends but the game doesn't balance lobby's, so you end up with a stacked high level team on one side and low levels on the other....which makes it shit for both teams! The devs need to give is the direct ability to switch with other players on the opposite team

i used to enjoy this game, but recently i have not because nowadays i fell like i cant hear walking footsteps at all. yes you shouldnt be able to hear somebody when they are sneaking but you should be able to hear somebody walking right next to you or in the next room like you used to in this game.

Regarding the sound that you said you enjoy and .50 ringing in the ears, try if you haven't already, playing Squad. You will hear the REAL ringing.
Airstrike, mortars, IFV's and small arms, all at the same time while you're trying to figure out where are you getting shot from. Immersive.

i could go on for hours about how sandstorm lacks consistent tone/atmosphere compared to 2014 Insurgency with wack ass cosmetics and such, but id be lying if i said i didnt get way more than $30 worth (nearly 1300 hours in the game now). gameplay still holds up (mostly), and its been a lot more fun ever since i upgraded my graphics card
i just wish the updates were a bit less lackluster, glasshouse and livewire didnt get me all that excited tbh
Yeah the game is definitely worth the cost atm but it's a shame how little they seem to be caring about the game lately... getting 2 weapons and no maps after months of waiting is a slap on the face...
My biggest gripe with the game is explosions can kill you through walls. Makes playing some of the co-op modes very frustrating.
Yeah the explosives can be really inconsistent..
Explosives in the Game actually have shrapnel and will travel through walls much like Rainbow Six Siege.

The ISMC Mod only keeps this game afloat.
If they added Singleplayer modes such as Campaign without relying so much on Multiplayer Live Service (Especially on Console because Multiplayer requires subscription which is bullshit and scummy), the game would have a lot of Replay Preservation value just like other game titles that puts a lot of effort in Singleplayer.
SWAT 4 and Ready or Not is a good example on how they retained Singleplayer importance while supporting the game with mods.
1st bad thing: I wouldn't say the levelling system and a lack of progression is a bad thing. One of the nice things about Insurgency has always been the distinct lack of progression, you jump in and are on a level playing field with everyone else, everything is unlocked from the get-go and the only thing that matters is how good you and your team are, better team balancing would be nice though.
2nd bad thing: About the bugs, there are many game breaking ones still left in the game. Just to list a few; Smoke and Explosives are incredibly inconsistent, the maps are broken and with the aid of the numerous physics exploits it is possible to get almost anywhere on them, this includes getting under the floor to block obj's and shoot through invisible walls etc. NWI knows about most of these, but the truly massive glitches and exploits often go unfixed even after 5 years of being in Sandstorm, mainly because it'd require more development time than adding 2 guns and a map every so often.
About whether they're giving up on Insurgency, they sort of already have. Most of NWI's resources are going towards their unannounced projects and Sandstorm is clearly not getting much attention going off of the amount of content and lack of changes and fixes that the game needs and is not getting. The plan was for Sandstorm to be supported for 2-3 years, and we're on the 4th year with updates being spread thin so that the game has that 'supported' label on it. The update we're on is 1.13, and everything we've seen so far points towards 1.14 being the last content update this game will get.
4:12 - Just to provide a little more info if you're interested. The background image there is a test for Fog, Rain & a Day/Night cycle they did a while back for their upcoming project. They're not planning on adding that specific level into the game as of now, but we have seen a few WIP environments which likely will make it in, as well as this test environment under different weather/time of day conditions. The next game from which these images are will not be an Insurgency title, and it'll be quite different from anything NWI has released in the past, hopefully you like pve;)
3rd bad thing: Agreed 100%, the reason for this is not exactly clear, but following Andrew Spearin being forced out of NWI in 2017 Sandstorm has seen a massive shift in direction from a grounded and atmospheric shooter to something that visually resembles CoD more than its predecessors, which is one of my biggest gripes with Sandstorm and the reason I don't think it really lives up to that Insurgency title. If I had to guess, it was probably an attempt to appeal to the casual audience combined with a lack of vision from NWI, the game has been casualized a fair bit since the release both in terms of gameplay and visuals, likely to appeal more to the generally younger console market. NWI is a different company than it used to be, most developers who worked on the previous title are gone and the company itself was acquired by Embracer a while back, I doubt most devs and decision-makers there really understand the idea of what an Insurgency game is.
5th bad thing - Agreed, mods are a mess and it's largely thanks to mod.io which NWI chose over the steam workshop as it allowed for mods on consoles (which never will happen).
About the good things, I agree for the most part. Though I'd say that while the gunplay feels good it is quite bad in terms of balancing and how it translates into gameplay/flow. The low recoil which allows for control of full auto rifles over hundreds of meters is not a good thing when combined with the relatively high ttk for an Insurgency game, the end result is just a full auto meta which is quite different from MIC and Ins2 that I believe handle weapons better gameplay-wise, as semi-auto is much more viable and in many cases the meta. The communication with the devs (or rather, the community staff) is nice, but it doesn't really feel like what the players want is translated into what gets added into the game, just take a look at how competetive was handled post-release, the cosmetics and the general atmosphere of the game, gameplay features such as recoil reductions, the deathcam & spawn protection etc. etc.
Amazing comment and i have to mostly agree! But coming back to the 1st bad thing... i do think it's amazing how all the weapons and mods are open from the get-go but having no progression system and nothing to achieve will get people bored after getting used to the usual firefights and what not!
People need goals and without them everything seems pointless. That is why people play so many competetive games like CS and Valorant because in those games the stakes of winning are higher and every round feels important! Thats why people play games like Rust and DayZ because achieving good loot is fun! Comparing the player count to the copies sold in insurgency seems to be supporting that fact as well..
@@JereZiii Small cosmetic stuff like realistic looking camos for weapons or uniforms being unlockable would be nice, something to show you completed x task but not really noticeable unless you specifically pay attention to it. Gameplay elements shoud always be unlocked for all though.
I don't think progression is a really essential part of gaming, it can boost playercounts under some circumstances but I see it as oftentimes doing so by detracting from the experience, a game can be good (often much better) without progression just by the virtue of being a good game. You brought up the example of counter strike, but before Global Offensive there was no competetive or progression of any sort outside of community-ran events, yet the series managed to get big, same with Insurgency, and a more recent example would be Squad which is doing fantasticly in terms of playercounts despite being a relatively old and niche game, people play it because they enjoy the experience it provides and not because of artificial goals they strive towards.

I really enjoy this game, unfortunately I don't have good PC to play it so I play on my basic PS4. For me the biggest issue on basic PS4 is low and unstable FPS (this is due to the game, not the quality of the internet), hope they will fix this asap. Second complain can be long loading time. Besides mentioned things this game is awesome.

I have audio sensetivity to high decibles and certain high frequencies (like my ears ringing) I was surprised to find that the sound effect in this game for it actually didnt hurt my ears.
You can actually turn it off completely in the settings!!
Hours and levels don't matter it just matters who goes on and off of the game and I think insurgency is a very fun game it's just sometimes people are a little to unknown to the world

Ever since I started playing Sandstorm I've avoided PVP at all costs, I think I've only played between 3-5 games and I hardly enjoyed any of them, the PVP parts of the playerbase seems to be filled with fail trolls and really strange edgelords, PVE though is amazing for me, getting off COD I was used to some insanely weak PVE experiences and with Sandstorm, it pulled me out of the mud and put me on the clouds, I honestly think it's my favorite game just cause of the PVE.

Personally I can't stand PVE, it's like playing against children. But saying that I do normally come top of the team. Just got to know when to be quiet, use dirty angles with map knowledge, have good aim and rotate positions after every kill.

Hello. I started playing this game for few weeks now on series S and a 37" LG FHD 50Hz tv set. Optimised for X/S. Well, i really can;t say if the game is good or bad. bought the game at the start of the year but really started to get into it a few months ago, i can say its one of the best shooters out. It is free on xbox gamepass for any1 wanting it
3K players is only on steam tho. It's also on EGS and PS so i'd say combined hovers around 10k prolly. Overall good vid :D
I mean some of these maps are just terrible map design sometimes. I love some maps and others are literally unplayable. Game modes are pretty lackluster too. Gun play itself is awesome.
The PVE brings me back to the old Resistance 2 co-op days. Loving the game so far

I know I'll get flak for this one but my only issue is how op the a.i is on co op mode. These aren't 2012 bots these are 2023 terminator mf's. Like you'll press left stick to run and then an enemy will just appear. I've seen people pressing right stick melee to get them to pop out. That and most of the time your teammates just rush the objective and die or they'll just take up the main lanes where the enemies come. I like the versus mode better for sure
I still playing Insurgency 1, and i can't wait to play Sandstorm someday. The I. 1 is an excellent game and i can't imagine this one. The community is great and even if your team lose, you won't have problems, cause the folks knows how to have fun. If you want to play something that justasks for your teamwork and luck, just play Insurgency 1, which has smaller maps and less mechanics. Even if the maps are the same, every new round new things happens.

Great video! I only partially disagree with one part: the rogue spec ops mask may look unrealistic and ridiculous, but it was worn by Iraqi SOF, so it’s more realistic than the Softshell jacket with rolled-up sleeves.

The game overall graphics, smoothness, gameplay is awesome. But unfortunately the game is dead, the community is toxic… The fact that it only takes one bullet to kill you, people will camp every game. Sometimes the whole server will camp… lacking fun , run & gun. Briefly people will camp unimaginable spots that you’ll have to learn and preFire those spots before entering objectives. If you want my opinion this game is not worth full price for PC gamers mostly because you’ll join the same two games over and over again since the player count committed suicide. I believe that console players will have a better experience since they have no aim assist. Buy this game when it’s on sale. I’ve got (1000+ hours on this game)

I hate that theres so few playing insurgency, but then again as you said never a problem finding a match so its alright i guess. Just deserves more love and people tho

It does in some ways! Consoles lack some content that the PC version has but it's mostly the same. There will be a big update soon tho that will make it better for the console players.
