The $5 box is GREAT! While I may not use some of those things, they can be donated to the homeless shelters or blessing boxes. I would rather see them sold at a cheaper price than to hit the dumpster.
Cadbury flake is from the UK so is the chomp
Make sure you check with the shelter or pantry first - not every place accepts expired food
I know all the things you are teaching......when I turned 48 I stopped regular work, now I am living on 9 hours a week 😊.... . I watch you cause you are soooo funny 😂❤😂 greetings from Austria, Alexandra
$5.00 box worth the fun and memories trip w/your hubby! I also totally enjoyed watching you go through it!! 😂😂😂 love your segment!!
I laughed out loud throughout that part - worth the $5 just for the anticipation.
I went into Kroger last week for 4 loss leaders, Purnell sausage buy 1 , get 1, 4 pack butter $2.99 (47% off), Haagen Daz icecream $2.49, regularly $6.49 and Silk Almond Milk $1.49 regularly. Bought multiples of each and that was all. I have never done that before. Thanks for the advice!!
Great
Christine, they saw you coming and said" Quick throw all that stuff in a box, she'll buy it!" I love it, so fun.
I have heard this attributed to Warren Buffet on more than one occasion: Learn to live within your means and when the things you use are on sale buy in bulk.
Want to hear something funny? I live 2 blocks from Warren Buffet, I'm not rich in the slightest, Omaha is just laid out weird.
He is known to have s modest home
@robinbrandi4663 it really is modest. And he doesn't have a ton of security either. He really is salt of the earth. I was a waitress at his favorite restaurant, Gorats. I met him a few times, very much an average Joe in many ways, but you can tell he is very, very smart. Oh, and he always tips 20%.
I think he's lived in the same home for forever!
@@paisleyhunter That is so cool! He is such a role model of mine.
When I was learning to drive my father in law at the time was ex military and I will always remember what he told me. “ always assume everyone is trying to kill you” and I can’t tell you how many times that line has saved me from a crash. And my dad’s advice that has also served me really well was “ don’t hesitate. If your going to go then go if not stay just don’t hesitate”
This is gold!
@@sarahconnor64 haha thanks thought it might make some people chuckle.
Great driving advice!
Currently teaching my youngest to drive. I felt that rant . . . "Death is on the line." 😅
Here in Saskatchewan, having a mobile in your hand while driving is a very serious offense. Bluetooth and similar is OK.
Yes! So glad we're on our last child for this. I swear I age 5 years each time we teach one of mine!
I also agree that teaches kids to drive is worse than potty training. It was sooo incredibly stressful for me!!
Christine!! Going to the sauce packets for dinner inspo is insanely genius!! Takes SO much decision fatigue out of the equation. Oh man, it’s so simple, but so overlooked! Thank you for the reminder to simply “look” at what we already have 🎉 You’re the best!
I can't believe you got all that food for $5! Junk food or not, that's a pretty great deal!
You are right about teaching a child to drive being worse than potty training. My youngest proved that it is so easy to get in an accident and total a car with my husband in the vehicle. Thankfully, it was just the car and no one got hurt.
I have shopped and reverse meal planned just like you for years. That’s how we spend about $150 a month for groceries.
Awesome... I still struggle with my grocerie budget. This week has been crazy with the spending.
So has my spending! I've started having anxiety attacks when it gets close to having to go to the Grocery Store time 😱!(Seriously) Also I'm a Senior Citizen, and live on $157 in food stamps.😲 Pray for me 😞😇
You are hilarious! That unboxing scene, priceless. If you have stuff you don't want, take it to a trailhead and leave it for the hikers as trail magic.
Chomp and flake are well known chocolate bars in Australia.
Chomp is not my favourite but my adult kids liked it when they were younger.
I mostly use Flake as a lazy way to make bark for our Yule Log! 😂
My tip is to cook my fresh veggies when i purchase them and i can either freeze them or keep in the refrigerator until i use them. It has eliminated wasting fresh produce.
Did this today for our family of 7. I bulk cook one day for the next few. Made 3 types of pasta (fettuccine, bow tie, and egg noodles) cause I needed to use it up. Made spaghetti sauce, beef tips, or Alfredo for their sauce of choice. Had leftover shredded chicken so I made a chicken casserole. Also made white rice and flavored rice. And made me some spaghetti squash. Only had to buy the heavy whipping cream extra. Everything else was in my pantry.
I needed this.. bc ive stock piled but I just ordered a pizza.😅
Cadbury flake...when i lived in England and went to University....we'd get an ice cream on a hot day and they always put a flake in it 😂
It is called a "99" ☘
Cadbury Flake is my favorite British candy. It's just chocolate but it's thin layers sandwiched together so they tend to flake. It's terrific crushed and served over ice cream.
I feel you on teaching the kids to drive. We’ve done it three times. My husband did most of the teaching because I get anxious and tend to react too easily. But I’m the one who received the calls when two of them got into accidents. The oldest swerved to avoid an animal that ran out in front of him, not his fault, totaled his car. The youngest rear ended someone when she glanced at her phone.🤦🏼♀️ Fortunately not going very fast, not serious, but she was hysterical. She learned a good lesson that day… Mom was right, NO PHONE in the front seat while driving.
'An emergencheese'!! I am using that forever now! #GOLD
The five dollar box ....I would take these cakes n dunkaroos put in the processor frosting too. Probably need to add a little milk, taste to see if I need to add some spices to my liking. Roll into balls and dip in melted chocolate . My hubs, coworkers and grandkids would most likely devour them.
Thanks for all your videos 💞
Sounds great. I love using things in unusual ways.
My sweet baby grandson left Monday for the US Army. My granny heart is just breaking. I know you can relate because of Haley leaving. The big difference is we can’t talk to him for at least 6 weeks, maybe more. This has nothing whatsoever to do with this video but I just needed to talk to somebody that’s had this broken heart. When does it get easier😢
Give it time, you do adjust eventually!
I hope you don't mind me adding this advice. Carry your phone everywhere with you because they will call unexpectedly when the DS allows. They will also write letters so it helps to look forward to those and ease some of the pains.
@@Kristengs thank you. Any and all advice is very much appreciated and welcome!!
@tinashort9098 when he calls with his address, send him a letter with paper, a few envelopes already stamped to make it easier for him to write back. Less excuses lol. It will get easier with time. My sons contract is almost up and it helps to write when in basic and AIT. Hugs 🤗 you guys got this! 💪💪
Please write when you get his address in basic training. When I went, my brother is the only one who wrote to me and he only did it once. Mail call was a sad time for me. In basic training you really look forward to the letters and cards. I’m almost 60 now and I’m still a little hurt that my Mom nor anyone else bothered to write to me. I’m a minimalist now and don’t keep many sentimental items but I still have my brother’s letter from 1984.
You've got a neighbor with seven kids...give the stuff you don't want to her! Very cool find on that $5 box!
Why are they ALLOWED to sell you foods that expired a YEAR AGO!!! If it has that much preservatives in it, WHO would want to give it to their KIDS !!!😲😱🧐🫣🤨
@@luananana4679November of 23 isn't a year and that expiration date doesn't been as much as you think it does. Food doesn't became magically poisonous at the strike of midnight on that date.
Australia 🇦🇺 driving:
Our kids have to drive 120 hours (20 hours at night) minimum with a parent plus 12months driving (if 16 years old) =Learners plates
THEN 12 months Provisional driver
stage 1 (Red Ps)
THEN another 12months Provisional drivers stage 2 (green Ps)
it’s a long time for them
But the killer for me is doing the 120 hours of teaching each of my children
I have 4 !!!!
Help
Two down
Two to go
I’ll be 60 years old when I have to do my last child
😝🥹😩
You crack me up! You are 100% right on with teaching your kids how to drive. Most stressful time of my life!
Loved this video! It was refreshing to see you and your hubby interacting while going through the box. I recently started a $50 a week grocery budget (and i live in Cali) however, it's been completely doable as I take inventory of the items in my pantry, fridge and freezer first and base my meals off of what i already have. 😊
i feel you on the driving. I survived three kids driving but I hated every minute of it. I am so glad I never have to do it again. LOL
I would LOVE another round of extreme grocery budget challenge videos right now during inflation... your old videos help so much! ❤
I picked up $3 of something like that. The stalest foods went to the compost, but it was fun to dig through the bags. And some things were good.
My boys would love that box.
I was the one who was on your “death end”. The reason why, my dad was a state trooper & he taught me FIRST HOW TO DRIVE. And then we also HAD “Driver’s ED” in high school. Where they took you out in a car with one other student to physically DRIVE. Our driver’s ed teacher made us run his errands for him, so we got LOTS OF DRIVE TIME IN SCHOOL! When I was 15 (1978) you got your “learners permit”. Then when you turned “Sweet 16” BAM!💥 you got your license (no if and or buts about it). Talk about a “nervous wreck”!! And that wasn’t the worst of it, since my daddy was State Patrol he worked the roads/hwys ONLY (NOT regular normal police stuff). So guess who more or less was ALWAYS was being WATCHED & CRITIQUED if caught driving on his shift😬 this girl! He retired as a State Patrol after his 30 something yrs were up.
So I feel for you. But man, talk about being STRESSED OUT!! Not only was he my dad teaching me BUT he was also a STATE TROOPER WHILE TEACHING ME TO DRIVE!! My mom did NOT teach us or even ride in the car while being taught. THIS WAS DADS WATCH!! 🫨 ✌🏻
In Australia we use the Cadbury Flakes to crumble over cream topped cakes 🍰
My parents were smart when it came to driving lessons. They taught me (the oldest) and then made me teach my younger siblings!
The $5.00 box yells "Happy Halloween!" I drove professionally for 34 years and had to beg others to take my kids driving. They both are beautiful drivers!
Yes, halloween would be a great time for the $5 box or maybe kids birthday party or other get-together where junk food is expected.
The goodie boxes are sometimes amazing. My discount store had a giant box of organic granola bars like Kind bars and luna bars. Pure gold.
I know how you feel teaching your kids to drive. I stopped going with mine and my husband was doing that teaching. AFTER 2 kids we both survived . You will too. 😊
Love watching you! The drivers thing… UGH… baby girl just got her license last Wednesday. We have the 6 month and 65 hours here. She didn’t take the book class because she said they couldn’t fit it in her schedule. God bless you. Praying for all the kiddos on the road.
I am a rural Mail carrier, which means I have a car with a steering wheel, gas, and brake on the left AND the right. I saved us from reversing full power into the dumpster one of the first times my kid got behind the wheel. I'm sure it wasn't good for the car to have a teen foot in the gas and a mom foot on the brake, but the dumpster would have been way worse for it.
The classic $5 banana box. Loved that. My husband did that once for a box of protien/granola bars and it was a really good deal for some good quality brands. You do run the risk of stuff being "expired" or having bugs in it thought. Still would recommend.
Chomps and flakes are two of the chocolates I miss the most since moving to Canada from Australia! Love them so much!
That was fun. I think it would be easy to eat $5 worth of the mystery box. Anyway, I'm interested in anything you're willing to teach, Christine. You're not only thorough and interesting but you're presentations (with or without family) are hilarious. Laugh and learn is a good thing.
Christine, I agree with you. We save so much money on groceries by meal planning with what we already have in our home!!! Great video! ❤
Just LOVE ❤ your videos! I have been watching you for years! So inspirational and humbling. Thank you for all you work and dedication to your channel for all of us. You have helped me so many times! So thankful for you!❤ Sending tons of LOVE from Syracuse NY! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much!
Could I please be involved in the meal planning project? Would love to learn some new things! 🥰
I was a driving instructor for years...I completely understand
I have been making the two ingredient dough and I bought a tortilla press, so it presses them thin and I make my own tortillas. the price is rising here. also makes a good flatbread, we make a greek seasoned chicken (cavendars seasonin) and do like a gyro-ish
We have gotten MUCH better about meal planning and eating what we have, but I am still guilty of scrolling through Pinterest and finding recipes I want to try. Many times I will make them into freezer meals so I have a stockpile in the freezer of ready-to-go meals. We also recently purchased a vacuum sealer. That has saved a lot of food from ending up in the garbage also. Thanks so much for these videos!
It’s so cute that you think that’s the hardest stage of raising kids, lol… Wait til they’re all grown and gone 🥲 It’s bittersweet because you’re proud AND sad at the same time.
Love your wavy hair so pretty ❤ The goody box is great for kids lunches. Love these types of helpful videos 😊
Love everything I'm learning. I'ma single mom who is trying to now live off disability and help my 22 yr old son who is so spirited and amazing but on disability for a year now learn these skills while I'm teaching him other skills ( not driving yet 🙈)along with other "caregiver" duties I handle for him until he gets back to where he can learn them again . Anyway we loved this video because we have gotten boxes like these so fun . Love to learn more.,. ❤
Yes your new idea in the works sounds like a great idea. Back when I was in school my mom always wanted me to take a FACS class so I could run my kitchen. One thing I didn’t learn from my mom or from school was meal planning. My mom always made an effort to have meat in the freezer so we’d have something to eat even though money was very scarce for us with only one income. Having a full tummy was more important than having the latest gadgets or the fancy clothes.
Cadbury flake is great! I used to get
Them when I lived in England for a year. The chocolate “flakes off” and has the coolest texture.
OMG, totally agree with you about teaching a teenager to drive! My daughter turns 16 today and gets to spend 3 hours tonight on Zoom for Driver's Ed.
Love your tips for meal planning! We finally itemized our freezer for proteins and put a cheap white board on it so I know how many of each thing I have.
I love lemons, and we love using them for fresh lemonade. Just another tip to help people save extra money: salt water also works for soaking apples in advance, and is the cheapest method I've found. They don't taste salty at all. (I've read just plain cold water also works, but I have found the salt seems to work better for me.)
I love Flake bars!!! This video really made me LOL several times, thanks!!
That box might not be worth it for most people but for the entertainment value of your video it definitely was. Glad you brought Dave in for that one.
The Pop Tarts crust is my favorite!
You crack me up, I love watching you. You always brighten my day. Thanks for sharing!!!!
You've taught me so much in the last 5-6 years. Thank you!
About to go through with the driving training. Agh!
That's so funny. I was talking to my son (while watching this), who lives/works in the mountains of Utah and he's teaching a friends kids how to drive a stick shift. He's away from most traffic, but my heart still seized up remembering....
Ole extreme wraps are pretty good! I am teaching kid #4 to drive right now. After the first few initial times of him driving, my time in the car is spent looking out for everyone else! We literally was almost ran over by a bus! You better believe I called that school district and reported the incident. My son had to speed to try to stay ahead of him so we didn't get ran over. I ended up turning on the hazards a couple times to get him to back off!
My local store is having a weekend sale on Sirloin Pork Roast for .99 CENTS a pound limit 2. We will be buying 2 of the biggest we can find. We will make Pork Chops and Pork cubes for stir Fry. Best thing my "MomMart"(adult kids named it) does for me is not having to pay full price for a majority of my shopping.
I have some sauce packets in my spice cabinet. I really need to look into them!
I agree - my daughter is now 27 - but when she was 16 - I remember being very stressed teaching her how to drive.
Death is on the line! I’m 4 for 4 for teenage drivers! Which is good since one is in Portugal driving the world’s largest round about! In 6 months, I start on kid #5, and she will probably be the hardest. So far, just 1 fender bender and we just sold that van. Do you feel like you do more teaching than Dave when it comes to driving? Hubs is always at work and it is easy for kids to drive to and from school to get the hang of it.
Love all your videos! Love that we have kids similar ages! My only struggle is that my grocery bill feels higher since I include all the stuff- laundry soap, water softening salt- in with my groceries so it looks like I spend more than you. Keep up the humorous stuff like mystery boxes! We all need a good laugh. 😂❤
We have 3 that we taught to drive. The oldest was the easiest because we were younger. The youngest 2 learned at the same time. I tried my best but I could only do the parking lot practice. I turned over the rest to their dad who said it was the worst thing he experienced as a parent and we have had a lot of trials. If I had to do it over again, I would pay for driving school. The other shocker was how expensive our insurance went when they had one car to share. The box of stuff was a learning experience! lol I have been to those kind of stores and the amount of this kind of food was overwhelming. Mostly, no nutrition and lots of sugar.
Yes on the meal planning 101. It was fun going through the $5 goody box with you! 😅
I meal plan from my pantry and freezer every week (you taught me that) I also shop from the sales ads and stock up when I find great deals- I am in the process of rebuilding my stock pile and restocking my freezers (January and February we did no spend challenges). But my grocery bill is lower now than it ever has been all thanks to you and your videos! I love your videos, Thank you so much!!!
Amen to teaching kids to drive😂 I’m getting ready to potty train my last child but I still have seven kids to teach driving to! Prayers!
Tip- Google what days are best to potty train using the Farmers Almanac. I did this and potty trained my child in 2 days❤️
Cadbury’s Flake….my friend’s Dad used to bring those back from his business trips to England. So yummy!!!
I totally agree with you about teaching your kids to drive. I’m on my second now with the third one is not far behind. My nerves can’t handle this. Thankfully my fourth child is ten years younger! So I have some time to recover.
I can't plan ahead. I'm doing good to go through my pantry and freezer to pick what to eat today.
That $5 box was worth buying just for the thrill of finding out what's in it.
You and your husband are so cute going through the box ❤
The $5 box was pretty fun.
Great advice to meal plan from your pantry
Thank you so much for all your helpful information to save. It was fun watching you open the goodies box. I like the apples tip. Hope your family is doing good! Love all your videos ❤😀🍏🍎
Aussie here and just wanted to say I love your channel, been watching for forever!! Also one more thing if. your a Cadbury fan Flakes are AMAZING!!
Watching you go through that $5 box was super fun. You two are funny and entertaining. 😊
please come to nyc and go grocery shopping with me! we need a VHCOL video!
You and you husband are so sweet and thanks for the good tips God bless you and your family much love from Michigan ❤🙏
Love the sweatshirt! Beautiful lake :) Thanks for the humorous unboxing
Our kids started learning to drive at 12 or 13. They started driving on flat dirt roads, then when they got their permit, they were allowed to drive an adult to town on a two lane highway. My granddaughter is 12 and already drives pretty well, at least on the dirt. She still needs more practice and training but she has the basics down.
10000000%%%%. Agree on the driving training!!
Yes I am very interested in what you are working on please count me in, I would love to do a one on one with you. I hate corn nuts. I love you and your family thank you for all your tips and videos 💕
This explanation of what you do and how you did it was the best for me, I hope you are not discouraged bc I know this is not new info on your channel. But maybe it was how you said it? It hit me better than before. Thank you for these videos, and the laughter and fun at the end.❤
I'm so with you on the driving! All my friends act like it's no big deal. I can't being myself to feel like that! I hate it!
When I get fouled stuff I open it all up and feed our wildlife and such ther for it’s not wasted !!!! So your surprise box would not have been a failure with me but I loved you guys having a blast checking it out !!!!!
We always throw a drained can of chick peas into our tikka masala or korma. Also, sugar snap peas are really good in it, too.
After watching your videos for awhile, I finally went to a discount liquidation grocery store in my area. I didn’t find a lot of meal starting things like you have (sauce packets, etc) but I did find a ton of granola bars, cereal, oatmeal, crackers, tortilla chips etc. I found a lot of Annie’s and cliff bar brands and stuff from Whole Foods for insanely cheap. While I was there they told me about another discount grocery store with the more dinner/lunch stuff so I’m excited to check it out! It was helpful to compare the prices on my phone with the other stores apps and that helped me figure out if it was really a deal or not.
Hello from South Africa! Just stumbled across this video & had such a good laugh at the goodie box scene...thank you!
I love how much your family has fun!!! I've started "shopping" in my pantry, meal planning and shopping from that - wish I had done that when our son was young. Now it's just the 2 of us......I spend about $60/week now.....but we buy all our meat from local farmers.
Flake is a very popular British chocolate. When you order an ice cream cone they will ask with or without flake, if you get it with flack they just stick it in the top. It's good, not sure if your was if it was too old.
I am so so so happy I am done teaching my kids driving, it was awful!
I love the 5 dollar box of memories lol amd your segments please keep doing you I love watching you❤
You are braver than i! We have a close out store near us. I limit to a two week window and cereal is a no. The crispness is less.
Love your videos. The box was a trip. I think I'd buy it just to see what was inside, too, LOL. Oh, yeah, kids learning to drive is WAY worse than potty training! We homeschool and our oldest started on a 4-wheeler in the fields. It must have helped, because we are still racking up the 50 hours here, and I no longer have a heart attack during each driving experience! One more to go! :) -Harriet
Totally agree about teaching kids to drive!!!! I get so much anxiety 😅
I hear ya on everyone on there phones while driving it's insane and I agree the potty training stage is better then driving stage
Great ideas, as always!!!❤❤
Love all your videos! ❤
