Look at randy Oliver's study on Dawn dishwashing liquid vs alcohol wash. He did extensive experimenting with both and found Dawn was more affective than alcohol.
My hive did not make a queen them selfes so no its been so long there is no nurse bees is My guess because they are too old. Now im adding an unmated queen but with no nurse bees left the colony will collapse because no one will feed the eggs she will lay? Do I need to add new nurse bees ?
David, I have to thank you profusely, for encouraging me. Last week I commented on one of your videos, about finally having my chance to put my hands in a real hive, and get a good look at something other than I computer screen. You encouraged me to go as soon as possible, and yesterday was my first opportunity. I must say, I seriously hope it's not my last. I do believe I've, "caught the bug". Where can I send you pictures that were taken?
15:00. re soap rinse for mite checking. In New Zealand they add 1 drop of surfactant to water to the shaking jar. Surfactent is the stuff you add to agricultural sprays to enhance penetration. It's not poisonous but the bees are as good as dead after shaking anyway. It's just a lot cheaper to use and more environmentally friendly than alcohol.
We always... And I mean ALWAYS... pick test frames with mixed brood. Both capped and open brood. I think the most important thing is keeping the tests as consistent as possible across all the tests we do.
Wow, this is so interesting. Thank you Eric and thank you David.
Thanks

Is it possible these bees are picking up their queen's pheromone and that that is guiding them home?
That's probably too far away for pheromones to travel
The more research done on varroa is going to be helpful for treating them successfully. Good idea to research the behaviour of the bees.
From my information from the Dawn bottle it’s first listed ingredient is denatured alcohol and also phenoxyethanol . So it is like a alcohol wash.
Good point
Thanks!
Thank you so much Dan!
Maybe nurse bees would stay if they had brood to take care of. Its worth testing this as a variable.
Indeed they would
What you said I don’t understand what idea you gotten. What if the nurse bees have to go to the restroom? Or they wanted to see a movie?

Eric is enjoyable to be around.
Interesting, good stuff.
Good job 👏 👍 always learn so much here....

Really interesting video! Good to know the younger bees can find their way home.

One drop to approximately how many milliliters

Hey David, thanks for this research and sharing the outcome. It was also nice to see a PA guy from my old neck of the woods. You do keep it exciting.
THANKS for sharing the information guys✅️😁👍👍
Our pleasure!
You say honey bees have real good smellers so a beehive smells a certain way way should the honey be Queen a Queen can smell that
They smell via their antennae so possible that it is tuned to specific odors.
