When you see Woolworth. You know it’s vintage 5 and 10 . Las Vegas’ better days for sure
I never had the opportunity to experience this desert oasis 🌵. But through this video, I have vicariously lived out this dream, electronically. Though Vegas no longer looks like this, this video is definitely a time capsule and Portal into another dimension. Thank you for sharing this audio/visualization!!
SO COOL! You now have official very clear historical footage here, thank you for posting this !
awesome, that people always feel the urge to document parts of history.. even things like building that seem unimportant. but without them all that would be lost forever...
WOW - Awesome, this is the Las Vegas i miss so much.
My grandmother took me to Las Vegas for the first time and we stay at the Sundance Hotel and Casino on grand opening weekend in July 1980. I made my very first bet on the Craps table at Sundance. I missed their $3.99 all can you eat Prime Rib buffet dinner. Thanks for uploading the video, it brought back a lot of good memories when I saw the Sundance hotel.
Wow. Thanks for sharing! So fun to see it back then.
Thank You for sharing. People need to see when Vegas was great.
for sure,great memories!!!
It's even bigger now
Thank you very much for this video. I came to the USA in 1989 (from Czechoslovakia) and live short time in Las Vegas at Martin Arms Motel. Wonderful time - wonderful people.
Viva Las Vegas.
Thank you for uploading! Brought back a lot of memories.
right across the street from Woolworth was the worlds best Chinese restaurant they only had 5 tables and it might have really small. but the food was good. wow cinemas 123 that was such a cool place to watch movies pay $1.50 and watch movies all day .used to have friend from school work there .she used to give me free popcorn and soda .i miss the old Fremont street.to use that were born there are lived in vegas before 1994 .we thought cruising fremont street was the greatest thing ever
I started my first job in Vegas the union plaza of Dec 1998 then 2005 worked at the stardust for a short time then went to Rio casino at the same time working at Bally's casino as an extra on both from the union. Rio wanted to hire me but Bally's hired me first still working there 17 years. .but do to covid am on layoff...
my home town was California west Covina. .
I loved the old Horseshoe. I still have my players club card.
Very cool
Use to go there before there was no such thing as a players club cards. Ya just asked the pit boss for a dinner comp and they simply said, SURE, they signed it and the family could eat for free!
I moved to Las Vegas a year before this was filmed. I got a good the last taste of old-school Vegas.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. Cool piece of history.
I haven’t lived here long BUT it looks like that area was better back in the 1980’s than it is today. 🤷♀️
This really brings ack memories, thanks for posting
Love the old neon signage it was better when the mob ran it it had character now it's a corporate dump hole-now
Still plenty of neon on Fremont
Sure use to have fun in downtown back in the 80s. I can trace the decline of Vegas is when they revamped the Golden Nugget and then built the Mirage. It was all down hill from there.
@@paleo704 downtown is live
@@beatler11 downtown is liver than ever
Great stuff, thanks for posting!
Wasn't even born yet. Wish I could go back in time to see it
way better than Freemont Street Experience, trust me!!!
I almost forgot what it was like back then. Thank you for the memory.
1,2,3 Cinemas. With a Robocop poster!
I remember the movie theater on Fremont, use to take the bus downtown and watch old Kung fu movies there.
Same here. The 1 2 3 cinema.
Thank you for this. Wish you had more of the Park hotel casino at the time. Now the Main street station
I agree, I worked at the Park in 88-89.
1988,I lived at the Lee Motel,Carson,8th,across from the old unemployment office,so many great food deals downtown, near Cashman Field, saw the Stars a ton, visiting team stayed at the LV Club shopped at Ranch Market sometimes near there!
Beautiful clarity to the video, FANTASTIC !
1988 downtown Las Vegas looked pretty decent everything was up and running..2021 skidrow.. and most business gone...
This is right about the time I started coming to Las Vegas. I believe the train station was still behind the plaza at this point.
Wonderful. Thanks.
Great video!
My first trip there was in May '88. I remember the movie theatre (the butch lesbian manager was very polite, one of the few friendly people I met in that town). I ate a $2.99 steak dinner at the Horseshoe and this cute blonde chick gave me a coupon, which I took inside and turned in for a cheap digital watch. I ate 59-cent shrimp cocktails and 69-cent chocolate sundaes (worst sundae ever!). I stayed at Linda Manor for $325 per month. Today, LV is a very different place.
I just ate a steak dinner in Vegas for $65 😓
I use to work at the Lady Luck casino,God what memories
You should really watch some of Bror Fredik's Vegas Vlogs, he has quite the following.
I bet this person never imagined we’d be watching this 35 years from later 😂
WOOLWORTH? YOU CAN TELL THIS IS AN OLD VID!!!!!!!!!!!!!
0:03 “You’re Gimballs Marge!”
Burn that canopy down, ☀️ rules
I remember it well! The year I moved there and you could still drive thru Fremont St….
What I remember mostly were all the cabs lined up,how about when my neighbor said rolls up the windows in that area, that year,a neighbor worked at Sassy Sally's,double, double jackpot, liked their snackbar, went to movies,McDonald's,$1.86 chicken dinner at Vegas Club also home to visiting teams that played the LV stars, lots of memories on Freemont and Ogden!!!
Never been to vegas. Looks way diiferent than today
exactly!! Freemont should have stayed as open road
like a mini strip..now it looks smaller. .
6:55 The Mob Museum
amazing footage, would it be possible to use in a film i'm creating?
PLAZA my first job in vegas when I came from California. .now I work on the strip. .
Nice
AWESOME
Very interesting
GuruSai Travel in Pune
Never been down this part in a car
very little has changed a compared to the strip
The Casino's themselves are very much the same inside.
was Fremont street a one way to traffic?
4:30 I assume is the Walgreens? What was it called before? And when did it become Walgreens?
I lived at queen of hearts hotel for about 3 weeks back in Dec 1991 then went back to Texas
Howdy partner welcome to down town Las vegas
6:30 Park Casino? Is that where Main Street Station is now?
GrowinupinSincity81 yes.
Was also the Holiday International.....I have chips from there. Not to be confused with the Holiday Boardwalk on the strip....
When you could still drive through Fremont St.!
it's reminds me the old days
It is the old days genius
Wow I Was There At That Time I Remember Long Foot Hot Dog For A Dollar Or A Mini Pizza For A Dollar On Fremont St And There Use To Be A Adult Movie Theater Near Fremont Street
It looks 100x better then, than it does now. It’s ghetto and trashy down at Fremont street nowadays
❤
I walked into CIRCA? the new modern casino in downtown the other day..............I sure miss The Las Vegas Club.
This makes me feel nostalgic, but I do remember Downtown as being a downscale dump back then.
Reno has the old downtown. ..hope it stays that way????
I thought I was the only one that compared Reno to downtown Vegas.
That Woolworth was there until 94' or 95' (although, it was vacant for a while before the canopy went up).
Wish the corporates would have kept cheap food 😢
0:03 Woolworth!
That's when Vegas was Vegas....
So much more fun today with canopy
7:00 what building was that? Almost looks like it's Trump Tower. 😂

The "Fremont Street Experience" was one of the worst things that ever happened to Las Vegas. It looked so much better back then
Andrew Bartels Yes! And not only that, they removed so much neon!! It looks so sad now
I disagree 100%, if they did not open up the Fremont Street experience almost all the downtown casinos were slated to close due to the strip expanding. The Fremont Experience saved downtown and brought it new life. I was there before they built the light show and closed the street to cars and the casinos were mainly empty on a Saturday night.
Kurt Schreihart true
Nah the fremont experience saved down town its more alive than its ever been.
Joshua Sullivan correct
I remember the pool Hal that was were Lady luck was at it was a small place shape like and L u had sir John's Barber shop and Larry's pool Hal the good day
they tore drown lady luck.
Lady Luck is now the Downtown Grand. But I still have my players club card from Lady Luck.
Too bad they can't keep the tweakers and dirty bums off Fremont St.
That's no different from The Strip either.
Good old days; Vegas sucks now.
