    Another great livestream. Thank you. It occurred to me that maybe ArtProf could host a collective library of reference images. We have so many people in this group from so many places. Maybe we could create an interesting collection. Every once in a while, ArtProf could do a video critique of successful and less successful contributions to help us up our game. That way, we could learn to make better references for ourselves while sharing what we have with one another. Maybe sometimes the monthly art dare could be related to this project to help build up the library. Anyway, just an idea.

    Does an oil pastel take a long time to dry?
    Does it remain a bit soft?
    By using baby oil, does that significantly delay drying time?
    If an oil pastel hangs in a sunny/warm location, can it “run” if freshly made. Does time prevent that?
    Thanks. Really enjoyed this vid and the tree root/stump in watercolour and oil pastels.
    I have a few small sets of oil pastels that I’ve thrifted and intend to give it a try next.

      Oil pastel doesn't dry, it stays soft forever. I can't remember how long the baby oil takes to settle in, but I would give it at least a day. The best way to preserve an oil pastel drawing is to have it under glass, in a cool room. Good luck! -Prof Lieu

    Hi, I am new to pastels, and to art in general. I have obtained two kinds of pastels, soft and oil. So when I saw your tutorial in oil pastel I started trying it out. You manage to get layering done, and when I do the same it just mixes on the page. Why is that? Are they too waxy? Maybe they are too warm. Any tips for attending to this without the mixing or lifting on the page? Maybe the brand is wrong. Pentel oil pastels. They are sticky and now my keyboard is multi coloured, LOL.

    • @artprof
      @artprof  Рік тому

      I think it's likely the brand, I've used Pentel in the past and their oil pastels are low quality, so that they don't layer, more the second layer you end up digging into the first layer. Imo Caran d'ache is a good quality oil pastel that isn't absurdly expensive, like Sennelier. Sometimes I will buy say 3 colors of the expensive oil pastels, and then use the cheaper ones to fill in. I never draw with only 1 brand! Btw here is our playlist with all our oil pastel videos: ua-cam.com/video/QcdqRaOrwco/v-deo.html -Prof Lieu

      @Nasauniverse001 Рік тому

      @@artprof Thank you so much for such a speedy response. I am grateful that you agree with me on the quality of the oil pastels. The other box I obtained is called Conda and they are worse. Today, I bought a box of Sennelier soft pastels and you only have to show the paper the pastel and it leaves colour, quality counts as I have discovered.

    1:09:00 I absolutely love your loose artistic style and approach on oil pastel. This style is not easy for beginners, since it needs absctraction, a photo or even an on-site view just gives an impression and your practicaly invent your own painting, which has almost never anthing common with the original photo, especially for landscapes. I watched your chicken and portrait oil pastel videos, and there you definitely should follow the shapes of the subject. In landscapes your freedom is endless. Thank You so much for these long lessons, a joy to watch, your content is eternal.
