You will See that he is a big Fan of the franchise and knows what He is doing. I am more than happy that they didnt use the costumes from the first or Second game.
The fact that one of the main guys from the raid plays subzero, tells me their fighting is going to be insane since he clearly knows what he’s doing. This looks fantastic
Yeah they mention fast and furious, which joe taslim one of the elite bad guy in FF6. Ps. the bad guys in the raid 1 and 2 fight in john wick 3. Clearly Hollywood now gave more attention for martial arts, which they lost years ago
Bro; he's my favorite. And even though Sub and Scorpion have always been trademarke fan favorites. Scorpion has always kind of taken center stage over the two. Like the face of MK the same way Spiderman is to Marvel. But Sub-Zero STOLE this trailer. Everyone is cool and dope. But seeing his actions I think is what really sold this thing. That's just my take on it.

If you slow the trailer down he definitely doesn't cut anything off, Sub Zero just slices under his armpit area. The perspective blocks his hand and forearm for a moment but nothing is removed.
I played Mortal Kombat every Saturday when my dad would take me to the arcade for about 5-6 years straight. But I don't know the lore or any background. I just know the arcade game. So I'm really excited to learn more background and see how this movie will bring characters to life.
This looks sic as hell. R rated, action galore, and just plain going to rock. I enjoyed the original movie back in the day but this is what we need for 2021. Just having Hiroyuki Sanada as my favourite Scorpion.
It's definitely worth it. I've had it for a couple months now and it's one of the better streaming services. I mainly got it for The Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire, Game Of Thrones, Rome, and True Detective rewatches. They have a pretty great back catalogue of movies too and now we are getting a theatrical movie every month. We still got the Snyder cut, Godzilla, Suicide Squad etc. I'm mainly ready for that Dune release though.

I'd cast Jean Claude Van Damme, himself. Make it a story about how he fought and won a previous MK tourney, and now he's mentoring new fighters. Similar how Woody Harrelson played a retired, washed-up vet in Hunger Games. EDIT: And towards the end of the film, we find out that he's been an imprisoned soul for years forced to repeat orientation for new Kombatants. His champion would set his soul free.
Casting Chin Han as Shang Tsung is absolutely amazing! the perfect successor to Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. And Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion ufff this movie will be epic!
Fun fact, Sub-Zero is played by JOE TASLIM(The Raid, Fast and Furious 6, Warrior) 🔥 the trailer definitely speaking to the 90’s kids. What I love is the representation of characters (Asian Excellence esp!) and tbh having the top actions stars today imo: Joe Taslim, Lewis Tan, Hiroyuki Sanada and Max Huang (Kung Lao) all martial artists, makes this authentic. I feel like that’s missing today in cinema besides the Wick franchise.
the Subzero actor is one of the actor from THE RAID and The Night Comes for Us, thats why subzero looks badass im pretty sure hes involves with the choreography aswell, thats when you know the movie will be AMAZING

I was 9 yrs old when the first movie came out and similar to what Hector said. It's gore-ish, it's dumb, brutal, action packed and I love it. This is no family get together like or feel good spread the love movie. If you want hype, pumped up action and adrenaline, this is it right here.

No one has talked about a very important detail about storyline. Kung Lao is in it!! Storyline prior to MK1 movie he is mentioned but is the ancient grandfather of Liu Kang, so I believe it will be a combination of a prequel and original MK1 sequel!

This trailer looks Amazing. Most times when Hector calls movies dad-movies, i add them to the list i watch with my mom. Big, dumb, sit-back-and-enjoy-the-ride Action movies, That is THE SAUCE.
And you're right. The point was to save some key characters for the next film. Because if this film is good they want to make more. And if the character roster is too large. It wouldn't make for good story telling right out the gate. You got to start small then grow like they did with the MCU. And if they're keeping this kind darkness and feel. It'll get more serious as more films are being made.

Because there’s SO MANY MK games, HBO could’ve definitely done a series on this and based it on each MK game as it goes along with the story, and as the seasons go along, the characters evolve with the show. The person Liu Kang is fighting when he uses the fire dragon animality looking move is Kabal (you can see the hook swords if you zoom in) so I feel like there are going to be more characters than we were expecting showing up. I mean considering fatalities will be a thing in this movie you need as much fodder as you can get haha.
The only thing I'm worried about is cole young character. Its hard to see but he's in almost every fricken shot in the trailer. When goro is jumping up that is cole he's fighting, during some of the fatalities cole is there, when sub zero is fighting scorpion cole is there. Seems like the entire movie is going to be completely around his point of view and that might kill it. A unknown that no fans have any love for anf the whole movie is about him. Hit or miss for sure.
Martial arts fight scenes in Hollywood movies have come a long way since the first Mortal Kombat movie. So for a property revolving around fighting, the fights had better be damn impressive. What we've seen in that trailer, particularly the Sub-Zero/Scorpion fight, this movie looks to be living up to those expectations.
Btw, using this guy Cole as a default narrator to help guide audience immerse themselves in the mk lore of they’re new but also give new perspective on their take for veteran audiences is a great idea just to tack on to what you guys said!
Cole is not Johnny Cage. Cage is allegedly in the next one. I DO believe the theory that Cole is somehow related to Scorpion because once he realizes who he is, he has the same yellow “glow” or accent to him as Scorpion. Hands and all. Watch again. Perhaps I’m seeing things because my eyes were tearing up. I’m not crying from excitement, I think my boyfriend is in the kitchen cutting onions.
This Sub Zero is Bi-Han the original Sub Zero, he turns into Noob Saibot later. Both Sub Zero and Noob Saibot are and have always been my favorite character(s). I think Cole Young could be Bi-Han's little brother Kuai Liang aka Sub Zero II after Bi-Han becomes Noob Saibot. But that's just my theory

This trailer looks Amazing. Most times when Hector calls movies dad-movies, i add them to the list i watch with my mom. Big, dumb, sit-back-and-enjoy-the-ride Action movies, That is THE SAUCE.

And you're right. The point was to save some key characters for the next film. Because if this film is good they want to make more. And if the character roster is too large. It wouldn't make for good story telling right out the gate. You got to start small then grow like they did with the MCU. And if they're keeping this kind darkness and feel. It'll get more serious as more films are being made.
Yeah, movie looks good. But waiting for it to be good/bad. Loved it in 95. Interesting to see people’s theory on Cole. Laughed when some said, “Video game movies are never good.” I just thought to myself, “People said the same thing about comic book movies before too, now look where we’re at.”

Because there’s SO MANY MK games, HBO could’ve definitely done a series on this and based it on each MK game as it goes along with the story, and as the seasons go along, the characters evolve with the show. Like how GOT started simple and got more epic as the seasons went on!!! What does the trio think?!

For a series that's mostly about fighting, a series wouldn't make sense. Movies are small enough that fighting can take the centre stage.

The person Liu Kang is fighting when he uses the fire dragon animality looking move is Kabal (you can see the hook swords if you zoom in) so I feel like there are going to be more characters than we were expecting showing up. I mean considering fatalities will be a thing in this movie you need as much fodder as you can get haha.

Given your past ties to the industry, I've been really looking forward to your reactions to some of these scenes.
The only thing I'm worried about is cole young character. Its hard to see but he's in almost every fricken shot in the trailer.
When goro is jumping up that is cole he's fighting, during some of the fatalities cole is there, when sub zero is fighting scorpion cole is there.
Seems like the entire movie is going to be completely around his point of view and that might kill it.
A unknown that no fans have any love for anf the whole movie is about him.
Hit or miss for sure.
Martial arts fight scenes in Hollywood movies have come a long way since the first Mortal Kombat movie. So for a property revolving around fighting, the fights had better be damn impressive. What we've seen in that trailer, particularly the Sub-Zero/Scorpion fight, this movie looks to be living up to those expectations.
Btw, using this guy Cole as a default narrator to help guide audience immerse themselves in the mk lore of they’re new but also give new perspective on their take for veteran audiences is a great idea just to tack on to what you guys said!

Cole is not Johnny Cage. Cage is allegedly in the next one. I DO believe the theory that Cole is somehow related to Scorpion because once he realizes who he is, he has the same yellow “glow” or accent to him as Scorpion. Hands and all. Watch again. Perhaps I’m seeing things because my eyes were tearing up. I’m not crying from excitement, I think my boyfriend is in the kitchen cutting onions.

This Sub Zero is Bi-Han the original Sub Zero, he turns into Noob Saibot later. Both Sub Zero and Noob Saibot are and have always been my favorite character(s). I think Cole Young could be Bi-Han's little brother Kuai Liang aka Sub Zero II after Bi-Han becomes Noob Saibot. But that's just my theory
