this is my first viewing of your video and i am so impressed with your cinematography and commentary. before the covid pandemic hit the country, i was working in gombak. because i live in seremban, i commuted almost daily by bus between seremban & kl. arriving from seremban, the bus would either drop us off at the pasar seni lrt station or pudu sentral. from either stops i would continue my journey to gombak on the lrt. so, i’m quite familiar with the brickfields, pasar seni & masjid jamek areas. but not in the manner that your video provides. your video shows a whole new (virtual) experience for me. i’d never imagined that there’d be a bike trail along the klang river from pasar seni to midvalley. more than before, i now have a better appreciation of the river rejuvenation project kl is doing. i hope they’ll continue all the way to klang. i think kasturi walk looks better now without the haphazard stalls that used to choke the path. as with many other large cities, kl has it’s share of homeless occupants. i was always aware of their presence even as a college student in the late 80s. i also remember that same spot you pointed out under the bridge across from the kl train station back then. but it seems that nothing’s changed for the homeless folks. in fact, the homeless population has grown much much more since then despite the huge “progress” experienced by the city. please continue sharing your bike travels across the less beaten tracks across malaysia. they’ll be so much appreciated by people like myself who don’t have the opportunity to do it.
Thank you for introducing me to aspects of this city of mine that I thought I knew like the back of my hand. You have been an inspiration to me and others to explore and get to know KL in which we live and work better.
the cycling canadian on his own bike ❤the 360 cam creates the feeling that a drone accompanies you and films the entire journey. Absolute amazing, Doug!
Its nice to see u cycling in Penang and now in KL, reminiscence of ur old channel name lol. And thanks for cycling along the River of Life. At least many of us who are not able to cycle along it, get to see it. Also, i might be wrong, but despite u having only 26k subscribers, i believe more than half of ur subscribers are Malaysians.
Doug forgot to tell you since u like cycling maybe u would like to check on Taman Tasik Titiwangsa...this is one of our oldest park and it has a cycling service with duo or tricyle as well. Go in the morning and u can see a nice view of the twin tower👍👍. Enjoy 🚴
Doug u certainly can stay in M'sia already...haha...me as Msian have not even been to this cycling adventure to the River of Life of KL ...thank you for ur amazing video venturing into all section of the KL river it was so nice to see ppl can cycle there now. 🚴👍👍
There was an incident before that a person was injured by a fallen monorail wheel below the track. I'm sure precautions and systems are already in place to avoid a recurrence, but I somehow still avoid any walks under the monorail tracks.
Once in a while i walked home from work at KLCC to Pasar Seni then took the train but never goes past that for my own safety but I'm quite surprised the path after pasar seni is pretty neat
DBKL perlu ambil perhatian.
I guess just certain sections of the city and certain roads are officially car-free on certain days. It isn't the whole city. The areas I had to pass through weren't part of the car-free program. But I think the car-free program overall produces an increase in the overall number of people you see cycling, running, and walking around even outside the official car-free districts.
Time 37:34 Public washroom - This reminds me of this joke: In the early 19th century, an English couple buying a car in Calcutta. The wife said this is a nice car 🚙, but where is the ashtray 🚬? The husband said, the whole country is one, just throw it outside the car anywhere you like. Here in the tropics, behind every bush 🌳 out of the public view 👀 is a lavatory 🚽🚻🤭😆😅.
No, I wasn't using a drone. I used a 360 camera that was mounted at the end of a relatively long selfie stick. It's the Insta360 One X2. And this camera makes the selfie stick invisible, so it looks like it is floating in the air ahead of me.
I must say I was a bit concerned that your camera was going to be knocked off by some low hanging branches. That said someone's given me a Insta360 X One recently. I got myself a Ulanzi dash mount that I intend to use for road trips. I'm finding your videos from Mae Sot useful to get started with this new technology.
Mounting the Insta360 One X2 camera on a bicycle is definitely a challenge. I've only done it a couple of times, and I'm still figuring out the best way to do it. It seems to be best to extend the selfie stick out as far away from the handlebars as possible to get the best perspective. But that isn't easy to do. I recently found a special bicycle mount online, and I hope to order one soon. That should make things easier.
Malaysia seems to be your base country. Any reason why? Have you been to Cambodia? Why not? If so, any reason you didn’t stay there long? They have a pretty liberal visa process, easy to get a one year visa.
Sad to see the homeless being treated this way..their numbers probably swelled due to the pandemic. I do not remember seeing homeless people when I was there in 2018 😩
I never thought of that as a possible "visa run." It's something to think about. It's a way to avoid a flight. However, I guess you'd still have to fly to Borneo to do that. So a flight would still be involved. I haven't looked into it yet, but I've been wondering if the ferry to Sumatra is up and running again and open to foreigners. I went to Sumatra on my bicycle using that ferry before, and it worked out well.
U can go by land to brunei from Miri Sarawak if u plan to see Borneo Just check u can do visa on arrival. Some utuber has done it before flight would be easier from Sarawak. Very short flight. Air Asia
I was thinking of the flight from Kuala Lumpur TO anywhere on Borneo. I'd have to fly there first. I assume one could enter Brunei overland. But I'd have to fly to Sarawak or Sabah first. That's what I meant about a flight still being involved. That's opposed, for example, to just going to Singapore or Thailand. Those trips could be done fully overland.

Woww..beautiful interesting cycling trail. Do it more often in ur vlogs, Doug 👍👍😍

Really enjoyed this video! Love your exploration on your bike.
pretty cool cyling along the river....i wish the trail can go as far as Klang 😁
Near in my hotel. Hope you try Roti Canai Special Mansion Tea Stall.. nearby RIver of Life

During that big flood only the houses roofs can be seen. There is a ambious project to build a mega mall on top of that river in mid 80'.
Gr8t Ride .. see Brickfiels Turnoff😊.. Superb Indian food there and loads of cheap hotels.🎉
Once in a while i walked home from work at KLCC to Pasar Seni then took the train but never goes past that for my own safety but I'm quite surprised the path after pasar seni is pretty neat
As a local, I don't even know how to ride in this so called river of life, until I saw this video, will consider trying it out
Great point of view from cyclist. Welcome back to KL Doug! I thought you would be staying in Mae Sot forever.
With a folding bike you can travel with express buses & taxis from a state to another state.
clikced thinking it was going to be metaphorical obstacles and a metaphorical river of life....nope 100% literal lol watch out for those stairs!
I dont know KL have a nice bike lane along the Klang river. Thanjs dude

it's funny, that mostrosity at 18:54 has "for sale: 70k" written on its side
I'm expecting you'll explain more on "car free morning" while cars are zooming around 😅

I am not sure if construction can block a public foot/ cycle path.

Spend a month in Borneo cross to Brunei for few days and renter to get another 3 months. Then u can spend more time in KL

Those homeless people are not homeless. usually get thrown away by their families because of drug addiction or they choose to be like that…
Hey
