  • Canada is a big country with a reasonably small population, but we have contributed some great content for the hobby. Here are my favorite 3 games that feature Canada in some way!

Yesterday I played Prelude to Rebellion (designed by Marco Poutré) and it was a heck of a lot of fun. Takes place in Québec in the 1830's.

Yes, there have been a couple people commenting about that here. I really need to check that one out!

You have to play to Prelude to Rebellion if you don’t know that game. It’s a Twilight Struggle kind of game between French-Canadian Patriotes against British Loyalists. The Prelude System is incredible (card driven and dice scoring tracks) lots of tension and a lot of fun. Give it a try.

I still have my copy of Canadian Civil War (SPI).
There was a Canadian game called Poleconomy, which was quite fun. It was sort of a mix of Monopoly where you would own Canadian companies, so they must have licensed the logos to make it. On top of that, there was a parliament so that you could become Prime Minister and handle the public purse. We had fun making up tax laws. At the time I didn't really appreciate how it illustrated the corrupt state of the world, which is arguably worse now than it was back then.
My copy of Quebec 1759 appears to have the same map, but the blocks have the white squares stamped right on them, no stickers. The publisher was called Gamma Two games back then, with the same logo.

Have you ever played Canadian Civil War? I have it too, but have never played it.

@@kevinsenglishschools3405 I remember playing it a few times back in early eighties. It is based on the Quebec separatist movement essentially. There are elections with die rolls, and one disappointing thing was that if it does degenerate to combat, the map is not geographically accurate, it's fought on an abstract grid that represents parliament more than anything. So long ago that I don't remember anything else about it.

    Happy Canada Day!!
Cool concept: I am pulling down these games as I watch Free Agent Frenzy tomorrow!
    1759 Siege of Quebec
And for a train game: 1856: Railroading in Upper Canada from 1856 or 1867: Railways of Canada
