Things like “my space” created often unrealistic images of “achievement.. I was 41 when I had my last daughter so I was born in 1950.. women didn’t have goals, university didn’t have HECS .. I wanted to go to i I But was told it was a waste. I’d only have kids and it was more Important that my brother go to uni coz he was going to be “the provider”. Children after mid 80s had “expectation” of university, plus a v expensive lifestyle. My daughter is v successful, she’s a Senior Integrated Designer for a big fashion company for Australia and NZ .. she works hard .. and last year with her fiancé bought a $750,000 apartment with her fiancé... my first house was a run down terrace in Fitzroy for$27,000 which I renovated. Perfect appearance, uni education, coffee, travel and success is how they rate life.. plus a designer dog of course.. she has a Groodle...$5000 as a pup.. yep.. which she bought b4 the house.. yep.. coz that makes sense when you are saving for a house.. but she’s “entitled” to a dog.. yep.. The entitlement doesn’t come from the parents.. well not from most ..the entitlement comes from seeing what the internet says you should be.and it never stops...through important years of development. The kids these days seem more grounded than that generation.. they were shockers., I have 4 born before her. Nothing like her.i went to uni at 46 and became a teacher.. so I finally got there.. but don’t blame the parents.. yes.. you want your children to have better lives but you want them to be good people as well.. millennial children.. not all of course.. but many in my experience anyhow are totally self absorbed.
