western union and foreign credit cards they give you a Dollar Mep exchange rate. I was in Argentina in August/ September and found the prices all over the place. The third exchange rate existed since the exchange rate madness started (again) in 2019, the difference may be that it is now (since a couple years ago) more readily available to tourists than before. Hopefully we will soon return to a single unique rate like any sensible country!
Begging for diapers is a little strange because those are kind of a luxury item. Disposable diapers are a very recent modern convenience. For virtually all of human history people knew how to keep a child's bum clean. It was healthier too for the child.
@@underdog_italy4238 This is true but please don't be offended. Americans make this mistake often because we aren't taught about the rest of the world in school.😝
I first went to Buenos Aires Argentina in 2005. I lived in Buenos Aires Argentina for 10 years. You want to avoid the Argentina banking systems because of the fees you are going to be charged for using your cards. For me, Western Union is the best option while in Argentina. Sometimes Western Union will give you a better rate than the blue rate.
right now there is only a small amount of difference between the official and the blue dollar rate, so its safer to make the exchange with a bank vs make the transaction in the streets with strange people. currently the main 'problem' is the cost of living (food, floor rent, etc). the price of a pizza at an average pizzeria is aprox 16 usd (same as in the usa).
@vosyasabesquien You are totally wrong. There is a 200 peso difference from the blue rate and the official rate. Next if you use an ATM 🏧 machine both your card company and the Argentina bank will charge you fees, you may pay 10 dollars in fees to take out a 1000 Argentina 🇦🇷 peso which would be the equivalent of taking out 10 US dollars 💸. You should avoid the official Argentina 🇦🇷 banking system at all costs, its not worth it.
@@markrush2319 wrong. actually the difference is 100 pesos (1027 vs 1135). besides that, there is a huge difference between you (a person who lived for 10 years here) and an average tourist. there are a lot of videos of arbolitos scamming tourists. 'viveza criolla', you know.
@vosyasabesquien well if you are not willing to do your research and take the time to study and understand Argentina you will get ripped off, next, the last time that I checked the official exchange rate was 927 pesos to the dollar and the blue rate was 1105. But Western Union was offering 1127 pesos per US dollars 💸. I can send myself from Chicago 1000 dollars 💵 to Argentina for a fee of 4.00 US , and I avoid all those ridiculous bank fees. But if you think that the Bank has a better deal for you, then by all means, use it. No sweat off my back. I will continue to use the Blue Market and Western Union.
Hey Sly please say "glass of wine" rather than "cup of wine". Restaurants don't serve cups of wine. Also, there are Argentinian wines available worldwide in all price ranges. Go to Costco and you'll see
Yeah, here in the SF Bay Area we used to buy wines from all over the world at beverage stores. Many of the cheapest from far-away places were actually the best. 🍷🍾
I experience the dipper begging a few weeks ago in Buenos Aires. It seems to be a scam. I had a women approaching me and asking me to buy her diapers. I just gave her a few bucks and she got really upset, so I thought that there was something shady because that was not a normal reaction after getting little money for free.
The cashiers are often in cahoots with the scammer. You pay with the credit card some overpriced item and after you leave, he returns the product claiming it's a defective product or whatever. Of course she doesn't ask him for a receipt. She "reimburses" him and they split the money. It can add up and be quite lucrative.
You got played on the diapers. The con is, you buy the item at highly inflated prices, the con man brings the item back to the store after you leave and they split the money and sell the item again.
Dude you got robbed. That place is a clear tourist trap...just the fact that it has menu items in english gives it away. You can probably get that same meal for 40% less any other place. Glad you enjoy my country though, and hey, I travel as well and I fell in countless trourist traps in the past few years so who am I jugde.
Prices are getting on par with developed countries (not saying Argentina and Uruguay aren't developed, but you know). I wonder what prices are like in Mexico or Columbia. I could not a huge piece of meat like that by the way lol
Sly, have you ever come down with Traveler's Stomach in your South American travels? I came down with a very severe case of it in Peru in May of this year. I lost 25 pounds; found out I was infected with amoebas. I'm a little afraid to tour the rest of South America now!
The same thing happened to my sister in Egypt. Bottled water is a must, even to brush your teeth. Street food is part of the tourist experience for most, but I avoid it even in the US.
Yeah well Peru and Argentina are completely different countries and have nothing in common other than the language. That's like me getting food poisoned in Mexico and then assuming it will be the same in Canada or the USA because all three countries are located in North America.
I traveled many places and love street food and the rule is always the same, eat at busy places where the food is getting cooked well, like on a grill. Avoid salad.
Buenos Aires tap water is pretty safe, just avoid not cooked food. People here lost much of the obsession with alcohol for hand cleaning since covid, but still is in use everywere, you could find it in most restaurants and bathrooms.
Is it safe walking at night? Streets are not fill with people. Do they have people on Cycle stealing like in Brazil for example? In NYC we have been getting that from the migrants mostly Venezuelan gangs.
It depends what you are looking for. If you are looking for Nature Argentina is a good place whether in Summer or Winter. It depends if you love heat or cold. but it also has its interesting cities to know beyond Buenos Aires capital. It's a matter of looking for information and places. greetings.
I enjoyed the video and laughed a bit. Next time make sure to ask for "una copa de vino" or a 375cc bottle. You can look at he menu to pick that. It's aprox 2 glasses. Also ask for "bife a punto" which is a little bit more cooked than the one you ate, but not much. I'm going to Patagonia in a couple of weeks and maybe a couple of days in Bs As. I like the country better!🥰 enjoy the rest of your time there!

Lots of Actors in America believe Buenos Aires is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. There are amazing areas like Palermo Hollywood, Belgrano, Puerto Madero or Recoleta..Buenos Aires has something special not found in other countries. I travelled all around the world and there are amazing places everywhere but for me, Buenos Aires is unique. Has something different and I dont know what it is.
wow, looks amazing, but not cheap! you can get a steak meal (not as good) in the US for $30.
Wow, who knew taking a bus and ferry instead of a direct ferry could be an adventure? 😂 I need to try this route next time!
That steak had my mouth watering!
Argentina 🇦🇷 is beautiful. South America is more Europe. Have fun buddy
Solo argentina es europa. Sudamerica, no
@@robertoraularias4306 Uruguay is maybe the most European. Argentina also feels a little bit like America (USA), its Andean side looking like the Rockies.
Southern Brazil and Chile also.
you missed out, should have taken a spinn through the old colonial part of COLONIA URUGUAY, a smoll area but PRICELESS.
What? Where’s this restaurant? $30 is what I pay for one steak in BA. This must where locals go.
$30? That would be around 31000 pesos... That's a LOT in local prices. You must've gone to a pretty fancy place.
@@gorsh7870 probably Palermo prices
Cero5 en retiro is a good local restaurant
parrilla peña is in Rodríguez Peña 682, there are cheaper places tho
Should have stayed in Sacramento for a night or two. Beautiful and historic town right on the river.
Not sure if you watching latest news. But if I was in your place, finances, no finances, I'd stay around argentina, urugway, peru until at least february.
Last year the government kept the dollar artificially low to 300 pesos while in the real market it was 1500
How much did your room cost per night? Thanks for the info?
western union and foreign credit cards they give you a Dollar Mep exchange rate. I was in Argentina in August/ September and found the prices all over the place. Dinning at a good restaurant for 3 people I paid $15.00 (I live in NY so I checked the CC statement when came back) food was cheap, same with beer and wine, but clothes and stuff for the house like soaps, cleaners, mosquito repellent are insanely expensive....
Yes! This is suspicious. Most likely some kind of scam. Another poster mentioned about how he probably returned them for $$$.
Thanks for showing the real Argentina, because there's a few people using their channels to lie about it and claim its falling apart.
Sly, How do you find a place to rent normally?
Perfect steak. Argentina has some of the best it the world.
Hey bro,
I live here, and I’m an American as well. If you wanna meet up for a drink while in town. Lmk
Argentinians we are american too.
America no es solo USA papa'...esto es desde Tierra del Fuego hasta Canada
Any good places for drinks you can recommend?

10:31 a hospital bed looks more comfortable than this one
Man, I was staying in B.A. for about $25-30 a day back in 2007. That is quite a jump in costs.
I wonder if sly is coming back home for the holidays? I've always wanted to enjoy New Year's abroad.
No windows on the ferry? Thats draconian, and a good way to get seasick.
He said he was on a budget. It's only an hour. Calm down. 😂

What kind of airbnb do you have?
What's the price on the hotel rooms..
..airbnb's and places to live ?
Airbnb from 25 $ to 70$ places to live in Buenos Aires Recoleta, Palermo, Belgrano, Nuñez.
Wow, so it's safe to walk around like that at night?
It's like any other big city, just watch out.
i live in buenos aires and the city is pretty safe
2024 safer than paris
Yes
The cashiers are often in cahoots with the scammer. You pay with the credit card some overpriced item and after you leave, he returns the product claiming it's a defective product or whatever. Of course she doesn't ask him for a receipt. She "reimburses" him and they split the money. It can add up and be quite lucrative.
Damn! This is good to know.
Muy rebuscado tu argumento amigo....
brother lets catch up if you feel like it
You got played on the diapers. The con is, you buy the item at highly inflated prices, the con man brings the item back to the store after you leave and they split the money and sell the item again.
This is great info!
Really? For US Dollars?
Looking at the prices on your menu I am surprised that you spent only US $30.
Why it is so expensive, i live in Sevilla Europe and the prices are not so high.
Argentina best country in the world.
Its not cheap anymore. I came from Colombia and Ecuador. Way way better..
Thank you for visiting my country and my great-grandparents' land ❤
Restaurant in Uruguay have you free appetizer. So almost the same.
Prices are getting on par with developed countries (not saying Argentina and Uruguay aren't developed, but you know). I wonder what prices are like in Mexico or Columbia. I could not a huge piece of meat like that by the way lol
Argentina its a developed country. Not at the same level as US or Australia but still ...
Mexico is cheaper than Argentina now.
Argentina it's Developed country, with the best water in the Continent ❤
Sly, have you ever come down with Traveler's Stomach in your South American travels? I came down with a very severe case of it in Peru in May of this year. I lost 25 pounds; found out I was infected with amoebas. I'm a little afraid to tour the rest of South America now!
Any idea how you got infected?
Sly, would you ever partner up with other UA-camrs?
Peter Santenello maybe?
Is it safe walking at night?
Streets are not fill with people.
Do they have people on Cycle stealing like in Brazil for example?
In NYC we have been getting that from the migrants mostly Venezuelan gangs.

You've been around the world but never to NYC??? Come visit, its grand.

What is the best place you travel so far that would be nice for a black american for about 30 days, 10k spending
Goddam, where ever it is I’m going with you😂
Mexico, Panama, Ecuador, Peru, most Caribbean countries..
It depends what you are looking for. If you are looking for Nature Argentina is a good place whether in Summer or Winter. It depends if you love heat or cold. but it also has its interesting cities to know beyond Buenos Aires capital. It's a matter of looking for information and places. greetings.
a cup of wine...do they serve wine in cups in Uruquay...
Visit Argentina after a few months and everything will be different. Visit Argentina 10 years later and everything will be the same
Fun observation, nothing serious:
You mentioned Australia. UA-camr Czech in effect is doing a series in Australia at the moment. Its interesting to see many black people walking around in Australia. More than all the Argentina content on the internet. I would never have guessed Australia would have more black people than Argentina. Considering, being next door to Brazil !!!
Again, this is just an observation. Nothing serious
Black people in BA... you'll probably see a few black tourists or immigrants around touristic areas. Or you can go to Once neighborhood. Or Flores. African immigrants work there as street vendors. Just be careful with your phone 🤳🏻 and 💰. Not as safe as other places.
These rates always existed, but the MEP dollar was rather hard to obtain unless you are a local.
I seen people playing Frisbee at 1am at night
Just avoid tourists restaurants. Accomodation, meat and wine are the best and the cheapest. Nice piece of meat costs 7 dollars a Kg at the supermarket
