- This video shows you the basics of blackwork embroidery: how to start and end stitching without knots, the Holbein stitch (also known as double running stitch), how to work the outlines and the fill-in patterns, and finally, how to create beautiful shading effects.
Take a look at our collection of blackwork and cross stitch designs at: www.ajisaipress.com
Holbein stitch is used if the piece needs to be reversible, but backstitch is a good alternative.
The filling patterns are always geometric and repetitive... This is the main characteristic of blackwork embroidery :-)
This certainly is not a step by step guide. Very lovely work.
When doing the fill in pattern, do you always start with the outermost outline pattern and then work your way back and forth changing the stitches until you get the complete pattern? Would it be more difficult to complete the whole pattern one row at a time? Thx
There is not a rule :-) If you are following a chart, you can also complete the pattern one row at a time.
So... all Ajisai charts should be stitched with thread folded in half? I never done any blackwork before
+RinaDasler Not always, but the outlines are often stitched with double thread.
awesome work. i wouldn't know where to begin!
very Good...thank you!!👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much for this video! Very helpful and inspiring:)
is this traditional or could the lines be other stitches...like filling as turkey work andthe border lines as backstitch?
Love it!!! BUT where to I get the pattern???

Lovely! Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Wonderful so impressed.
amazing talent!!
Does the back have to be a mirror image of the front?
No, not always. A perfect back is only necessary if both sides of the embroidery will be visible, also because many patterns are very intricate and not always reversible.
Огромное спасибо!!!
