It's not pretty clear, though. It's intentionally left vague so we can find out next episode. 1.) Criston Cole is Alicent's Sworn Shield and Knight, he is supposed to be guarding Alicent as he has for eighteen years. It was job of another Kingsguard knight who is assigned to protect Helaena as her sworn shield who dropped the ball big time. Criston is, ironically, exactly where he's supposed to be, which is guarding Alicent. 2.) You guys missed the scene where Daemon is talking to Blood and Cheese. When Cheese asks what they're supposed to do if they can't find Aemond, Daemon gives a grim little smirk, which means that Daemon sent them after Jaehaerys if Aemond wasn't an option. Daemon is not innocent, nor is he gonna be pissed. He'll be happy, cause now the heir to the throne in a newborn baby and the war can kick off.
He didn't smile or smirk, lol. I rewtched the scene. Stop with this misinformation. The show left it vague (Daemon had no facial reaction to the question), and thus it can go either way. It might be a plot twist where he didn't explicitly order them to target the kids, but B&C wanted to get paid and thought Daemon would not care which "son" died. Or he might have implied the kids were okay to target. It would be in line with his characters, but we just don't know yet. Regardless, just like with Aemond and Lucerys, the realm will think Rhaenrya ordered Jaeherys assassination. It will diminish her reputation among the smallfolk and allies.

@@phantomwriter05 you’re literally coping right now, lol, by manufacturing a scene that didn’t even occur (Daemon smiling as a way to give the go ahead for child murder).
Blood and Cheese was way more brutal in the books. When the assassins get to Helaena’s chambers they tie her and Alicent up. They ask Helaena to pick which of her sons they kill - the 6 year old Jaehaerys or 3 year old Maelor. Jaehaerys was the main target from the get go (not Aemond), they only gave her the illusion of a choice to torture her. When she refuses to pick they threathen her with r*aping her 6 year old daughter so she picks Maelor, hoping he’d be too young to understand what is happening. Blood then whispers into Maelor’s ear “You hear that boy? Your mama wants you dead” and strikes off the head of Jaehaerys instead.
Or ... the maesters in the book who narrated the history of this event might have just "exaggerated" the events and made it sensational for the shock factor. The show is viewed by the creators and GRRM as the truest version of what happened during the civil war. The fact is was "tame" just means the sensationalism in the F&B book was an inaccurate version of the assassination.
Man i feel the excitement too. This show scratches a part of my brain that i didn’t know existed. I can’t even describe it lmaooo the dragons especially ugh i had chills watching this entire episode
@@lalaland12 now that i read your comment i think you might be right, he’s supposed to be watching over her, he was Alicents personal protector but that might’ve changed now that he was promoted but i’m not entirely sure tho
Although still absolutely horrific, the murder of Prince Jaehaerys was even more graphic and disturbing in the book. I"m glad they toned it down a bit.
The intro doesn't have any spoilers. It's the history of House Targaryen - the Targaryens fleeing the Doom of Valyria, the Targaryen Conquest of Westeros, Maegor the Cruel dying on the throne, King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne, the Great Council we saw in S1E1 and then the beginning of the Dance with the two factions on different sides of the table and Aegon and Rhaenyra on their thrones. The last scene is Lucerys and Arrax being killed by Vhagar and Aemond.
Just a heads up, the armies in this series are a lot smaller than the ones in Game of Thrones for multiple reasons including smaller populations and non unified kingdoms. So the 2,000 Stark men is a decent amount.
Not sure if you guys know this, but, both Rhaenyra and her dragon were grieving when they found the remains. Arax was Syrax’s hatchling. She wasn’t feeling her riders pain, she was feeling her own.
It killed me watching Rhaenyra and Syrax find what was left of Luc and Arrax... Arrax was born from from one of Syrax's eggs, so it was literally two mothers grieving.
It was Deamon's order to kill Helena's boy. When the assassins asked what they should do if they did not find Aemond, the show cut to another scene without an answer to this question. But this answer came in the conversation between the two assassins, "he said a son for a son". Killing the child was therefore Deamon's alternative. Helena had the vision with the rats (the maid remembered Helena's warning when the assassin stood in front of her). I think she had already seen the death of her son and wanted to change the future. That's why she pointed directly to her son, hoping the killers wouldn't believe her. In her vision, she may have pointed to her daughter and the killers didn't believe her and killed her son. Now she knows that the future is fixed and cannot be changed. Another possibility would be that she immediately pointed to the son so that she wouldn't lose both children. If the killers had killed the daughter, her son would have died on the throne as king at the latest, if not earlier in the fight for it. A throne that her son may not have wanted anyway. At least that's what she told her husband. So she pointed to her son so that at least she wouldn't lose her daughter, because in this world women are less at risk. By the way, there is still at least one male heir to the throne of Aegon. In case it was forgotten, Aegon fathered at least one son in the children fighting pits. We saw a son of his there last season. And I think when the time comes, the gray worm will intervene, because she knew what was going on, as did the twins and I think Aemond too (not sure).
In the books Blood&Cheese is much different. First off, Aemond is never mentioned to be the target, and Rhaenyra is not the one to incite the mission. Daemon sends Rhaenyra a letter from Harrenhal (in the books he is already there) that says- “An eye for an eye, a son for a son. Lucerys shall be avenged”. B&C sneak into the Tower of the Hand, which is not guarded as heavily as Maegor’s Holdfast, where Aemond was, and they head for Alicent’s chambers, who is getting ready for bed (Criston and her are not a thing in the book). Helaena and her three children (Jaehaerys, Jaehaera, and Maelor, who was not present in the show version) visit Alicent’s chambers each night before bed, and were just about to visit. When they get there, they find Alicent tied to the bed and her bedmaid strangled. Blood bars the door and Cheese takes Maelor and tells Helaena to choose which son of hers will die. Helaena pleads that they kill her instead but they refuse, siting- “An eye for an eye, a son for a son. A wife is not a son.” Cheese tells her that if she does not choose then Blood will grape her daughter and they will kill everyone in the room. Eventually, Helaena chooses Maelor, her younger son. Maybe it was because she thought he would be too young to understand , or perhaps it was because the elder boy, Jaehaerys, was Aegon’s first born and heir. Cheese holds Maelor up and whispers to him- “You hear that, little one, your momma wants you dead”. In one clean motion, Blood strikes of the older boys-Jaehaerys’s-head, and the two take off with it. When the guards finally burst through the door, they find Helaena grasping her son’s headless body to her, mad with grief. So yeah, Blood&Cheese is much more tame in the show.
Aint the book a POV of other characters? Characters who are not even there? And the majority of them are green supporters too.. Maybe the show is actually showing us what really happened.
@@tuxedomask4masc So Maelor just doesn't exist then? I don't get how people like you can still go on the "the show is what really happened" thing, when GRRM himself has stated that show canon and book canon are different things entirely.
How great was it to hear Stark music again. I hope we get a lot of Cregan Stark. Jace has certainly grown up since last season. The scene where Rhaenyra and Jace crying broke my heart. Rhaenyra had 1 line this episode and she was magnificent the whole episode. Team Black 🖤🖤 let's go!
2:55 HOD Opening: The tapestry of Targaryen history. Ancient valyrians practicing magic Daenys dream of the fall The fall of Valyria Aegon and his sisters flying over Westeros Harren the black Conquest of Harrenhal and the Field of Fire The North, The Riverlands and The Eyrie bending the knee without a fight House Targaryen established as the Rulers of Westeros The construction of the Red Keep The death of Maegor the Cruel King Jahaerys the Conciliator and Queen Alysanne Old King Jahaerys at the Great Council of Harrenhal (Viserys I nomination to the Thorne) The court of Viserys I split between Alicent and Rhaenyra Aegon II vs Rhaenyra I Lucerys death.
There are no spoilers in the opening. Everything that is detailed in there are the known history of the Targaryens. It opened with the Valyrians as shepherds discovering the dragons in the Fourteen Flames, followed by the Doom of Valyria. Next is Aegon's Conquest, and I assume the specific battle portrayed in the opening is the Field of Fire. The following shot are the former kings that bent the knee to Aegon the Conqueror and one of them is notably Torrhen Stark who was known as the King Who Knelt. Next is Maegor the Cruel dying on the Iron Throne followed by a shot of King Jaeherys and Queen Alysanne. The closing scenes are Aegon and Rhaenyra and a shot of the Great Council of 101 which was the opener of Season 1 where various lords chose Viserys as the heir instead of Rhaenys
Alerie Florent is confirmed to be Alicent's mother by Ryan Condal (her name was never stated in the books). Alerie is Margaery's mother's name and Florent is a house of the Reach (Stannis's wife's name). Beware though that, however powerful the Hightowers are during this period, with the Dowager Queen and Otto being themselves Hightower, the Tyrells are still the Lords Paramount of the Reach.
Yeah. The guy didn't get the phrase "a son for a son" from nowhere. In the same way I hold Aemond accountable for killing Luke even though he was just fucking around. I hold Daemon responsible for this. When he says "a son for a son" to these backalley thugs, of course, they're gonna pick the easier option.
Sad thing is Daemon was intentional. And I bet he knew that chances are the little kid is dying. Daemon had no idea of Aemond would even be home, he reminded the assassins that Aemond is a good fighter then said a son for a son. He definitely was okay with any outcome as long as a boys blood was drawn.
Daemon knew that Aemond will be hard to kill so he did not give many all he wanted was to cause war and chaos in team green so war can start and he can finally kill someone and he knew the best way to do it is to kill Aegon's child .He told them that here is girl and boy twins otherwise how they would know if Daemon would not tell them
The Lord Commander of the King's Guard can dismiss any guards as he wished. That area was empty because he doesn't want any witnesses. That is why Jaehaerys is dead.
Welcome back!! Found you guys on the Final Destination Series, SO HYPED you're into this!!! I'm a book reader but not going there cuz im sure you get it A LOT. Just enjoy! Ser Criston dining at The All You Can Eat Alicent Buffet is NOT in the books. Thats the only one i give you, lolol😂😂😂
One of the worst things about them changing it from the books, having two children instead of 3 doesn't really matter, however, the way they wrote it with them asking her which one is the boy doesn't make sense because they could easily check. They were trying to keep Helaena having to make a choice like she does in the book, but it just doesn't make sense as they could have checked in under two seconds.
So I thought the same but the intro actually is NOT spoilers. It tells the story of the original aegon’s battle and all the events that played up until now. Near the ending of the credits you see the scene of the old king choosing Viserys over Rhenys and then the divide between alicent & rhanera, then Aegon put on the throne.
I don't understand why the Greens didn't have not one Kingsguard but at least two, and more troops besides, guarding their king's children. They had to know that Rhaenyra and Aemond would know the Red Keep very well, including its secret passages; and that Daemon at least was certainly capable of stooping to murder children. Seems especially stupid. In the book, Blood & Cheese murdered the children's nursemaid and a guard as well as little Jaehaerys.
Daemon ordered it. Unfortunately everyone in this isn’t a good person. They’re all human. Also- Aegon lowkey funny 😅 and surprisingly not a bad king he just needs good counseling. I actually really feel horrible for both Aegon and Halaena, it’s a toddler that got beheaded with his mom seeing the death…..
I was surprised they did Blood and Cheese in this episode. I thought they were setting it up with the rat catcher being shown earlier in the episode, and Haelena's comment about the rats for a future episode.

@@penguin50279 Oh, grow up 😂 Alycent, Alycent, Alycent! Means nothing to who? You think he'll be punished for this? No, he did much worse than that and in front of everybody and got promoted!
Maybe Alicent and Aegon would lose it, but that doesn't mean that they would be competent, because they try the same thing, using Erryk and their plan would fail spectacularly, even that it would be another two casualties, and of course, now the war would began in earnest, with House Strong being the first casualty.
I had the blood and cheese thing spoiled from articles speculating but honestly it makes little sense as Aegon and Helena had nothing to do with Aemond and his actions. He won’t shed a tear over the child.
@@phantomwriter05he's still a "Kingsgaurd" his duty is to guard the the "Royal Family". The "King and "Queen" is his first priority, he's the "lord commander" after all.
@@manvirshergill1739 No, that's not how it works. The Lord Commander choses the assignments of the other Kingsguardmen. He decides who guards who, unless the King has a preference. So, unless Aegon specifically assigned him to look after the children and Helaena, it is at Criston's discretion about who is assigned to guard the Royal Family. Criston has been Alicent's sworn shield since before Aemond was born and as long as Aegon can remember. I don't see Aegon having them change lifelong continuity on a whim.
@@phantomwriter05 why would the "Lord Commander" be a sworn shield for just one person?? This has probably changed after Harrold Westerling abandoned King's Landing so because of this Criston has been elevated to Lord Commander and is probably not Alicent's "sword shield" anymore. Don't forget that Otto when he came to Aemond's room told Criston to go to his "post" which I'm assuming was Helaena's Chambers but instead he fucks Alicent.
@@manvirshergill1739 What are you talking about? The Lord Commander is generally sworn to one person, usually the king. Otto saying return to your post does not mean he's telling him to guard Helaena and the children. He's telling him to go back to Alicent's door. The Lord Commander gets to pick and choose his assignment, it usually means protecting the King, because, that is the most important job. You have no evidence to prove that Criston was supposed to be guarding Helaena. There are three other Kingsguard in the castle.
Daemons not gonna be pissed. They asked what if they can’t find aemond and he gave them a look. He wants blood. He doesn’t care about the greens at all even a little boy.
Deamon did sent them to kill the child in case that they couldn't find Aemond. So, it was Deamons orders after cheese asked, what if we don't find Aemond? In the books they weren't told to kill Aemond, they were sent to kill Aegon's child and it was way more terrible that what they did in the show.

Crispy cole is supposed to be guardian whoever the king wants him to guard. Other than the king and the hand no-one can command the kingsguard. In an interview Fabien said the first thing aegon said to cole was "where were you, you were supposed to protect my family '
@@MyUniqueVibe I smell cope, bro, a lot of cope in this nonsense.

Your mama wants you dead” and strikes off the head of Jaehaerys instead.
i wish they went with that or a similar version at least, this was lackluster and almost trying to absolve daemon of involvment
Or ... the maesters in the book who narrated the history of this event might have just "exaggerated" the events and made it sensational for the shock factor. The show is viewed by the creators and GRRM as the truest version of what happened during the civil war. The fact is was "tame" just means the sensationalism in the F&B book was an inaccurate version of the assassination.
@@MyUniqueVibe nah man, george said there is a show canon and a book canon, the two are different
It was a let down. I've been waiting for that since ever since the HOTD series was announced. Its so frustrating.

Daemon said Aemond BUT Cheese said, “what if we can’t find him?” And then they cut away. You know Daemon said “Take the heir.”

but also crispín cold is the personal protector of alicent he is exactly where he is supposed to be, with her. except not necessarily inside her.
Idk man...doesn't lord commander usually watch over the actual queen and not the dowager queen?
@@lalaland12 now that i read your comment i think you might be right, he’s supposed to be watching over her, he was Alicents personal protector but that might’ve changed now that he was promoted but i’m not entirely sure tho
Although still absolutely horrific, the murder of Prince Jaehaerys was even more graphic and disturbing in the book. I"m glad they toned it down a bit.
“no call it twitter” igli is so real
"Let the South have their Sun, Flowers and affectations..we Northerners have Home."
Starks never forget this oaths meanwhile 170 years later Sansa ,Arya and Bran aaa fuck it we kill last Targaryen and usurp the throne
Daemon didnt care about which son was killed
His post was inside Alicent
They were sent for a son, they took a son
Just a heads up, the armies in this series are a lot smaller than the ones in Game of Thrones for multiple reasons including smaller populations and non unified kingdoms. So the 2,000 Stark men is a decent amount.
Not sure if you guys know this, but, both Rhaenyra and her dragon were grieving when they found the remains. Arax was Syrax’s hatchling. She wasn’t feeling her riders pain, she was feeling her own.
that targarean shirt is fire!! Criston Cole is for da streets
Criston can’t do his job fs n he still gets promoted lmao n after this, he’ll get promoted again watch. 😂
It killed me watching Rhaenyra and Syrax find what was left of Luc and Arrax... Arrax was born from from one of Syrax's eggs, so it was literally two mothers grieving.
Daemon wants war.He told them if they didn t found Aemon get a “son”.
Thank you for geeking out over the incredible music - it makes my heart happy! 🙌🏻❤️🎶
Aemon thought that his eye was a small price to pay to get a dragon. Then a few years later he wanted vengeance for losing his eye.
That’s Aegon’s heir it’s gonna hit harder
WE ARE BACK 👑🔥🐉🩸⚔️ HBO is the king. No world is better than the world of Ice and fire
In the books Blood&Cheese is much different.
First off, Aemond is never mentioned to be the target, and Rhaenyra is not the one to incite the mission. Daemon sends Rhaenyra a letter from Harrenhal (in the books he is already there) that says-
“An eye for an eye, a son for a son.
A wife is not a son.”
Cheese tells her that if she does not choose then Blood will grape her daughter and they will kill everyone in the room. Eventually, Helaena chooses Maelor, her younger son. Maybe it was because she thought he would be too young to understand , or perhaps it was because the elder boy, Jaehaerys, was Aegon’s first born and heir. Cheese holds Maelor up and whispers to him-
“You hear that, little one, your momma wants you dead”.

Old King Jahaerys at the Great Council of Harrenhal (Viserys I nomination to the Thorne)
The court of Viserys I split between Alicent and Rhaenyra
Aegon II vs Rhaenyra I
Lucerys death.
Off topic but Cojo's fit and hair are top notch! I was like gawdamn what a handsome dude lmao
Daemon isn’t going to be pissed he ordered it.

Who else knew about blood and cheese and watched this in pain for them?
"He's a munch?!" Why you gotta say it like it's a bad thing 😭

Daemon knew that Aemond will be hard to kill so he did not give many all he wanted was to cause war and chaos in team green so war can start and he can finally kill someone and he knew the best way to do it is to kill Aegon's child .He told them that here is girl and boy twins otherwise how they would know if Daemon would not tell them
aegon getting drunk on the iron throne though, that's a big flex...
27:52 Nope!!!! The Greatest-single-power in the realm would be Rhaenys Targaryen & the Red Queen, Meleys if anyone dares face them in a solo battle.
The Lord Commander of the King's Guard can dismiss any guards as he wished. That area was empty because he doesn't want any witnesses. That is why Jaehaerys is dead.
Alyn of Hull, the sailor who saved Corlys' life, is not just a self-insert.
Seems like they’re gonna introduce adamm next episode
Alicent would be called Dowager Queen, since Aegon is of age
"his post was inside Alicent" 💀
Not a guard in sight while this kid is getting his dome sawed off.
Because most of them are getting drunk with Aegon and the other is shagging with the Queen.

Best series ever, can't wait till next week
One of the worst things about them changing it from the books, having two children instead of 3 doesn't really matter, however, the way they wrote it with them asking her which one is the boy doesn't make sense because they could easily check. They were trying to keep Helaena having to make a choice like she does in the book, but it just doesn't make sense as they could have checked in under two seconds.
Anyone else cry when they saw winterfell again? We are so back!!
Seeing the wall was like coming home.😊
Great reaction guys!
The last few minutes of the episode were beyond shocking 😮
I have to watch it again.
They were sent there for the son. It’s written in the book.
9:11 corey saying this while wearing the greens sigil is funny 😂

I was surprised they did Blood and Cheese in this episode. I thought they were setting it up with the rat catcher being shown earlier in the episode, and Haelena's comment about the rats for a future episode.

The dude with the cap on should cosplay Aemond.
I had the blood and cheese thing spoiled from articles speculating but honestly it makes little sense as Aegon and Helena had nothing to do with Aemond and his actions. He won’t shed a tear over the child.
Criston was 100% supposed to be guarding Heleana 😂
He's not supposed to be guarding Helaena. He's Alicent's Sworn Shield not Helaena or Aegons.

If Aegon was unstable before wait until he hears his son was butchered. Absolutely disturbing btw
